On intellectuals and revolutions James Billington’s seminal work Fire in the Minds of Men takes some beating. He argues that the origins of the revolutionary faith lie not so much in the critical rationalism of the French Elightenment more in the occult romanticism of the secret societies. His debt to Nesta Webster should be obvious.
In the brotherhoods-the Scottish Rite with which Carasso’s Salonika Lodge was affiliated is an example-an intoxicating concoction of Christian symbolism and pagan mysticism was stirred that went on to inspire the revolutionary “isms” or ideologies of the 19th and 20th centuries. Increasingly, especially at the higher level of initiates beyond the 33 degree Christianity was substituted for a new gospel espousing salvation through the shed blood of man.
Billington traces the origins of the revolutionary faith to Frederick the Great’s Germany in the 18th century. Here a philosophy of revolution as secular, redemptive convulsion developed. It was this that once exported to France became the modern history of secular revolution as we understand it today.
The dream of a secular revolution leading to totally secular order which enshrined man as God and master of his own destiny was birthed in the Revolution that followed in 1789. The Revolution according to Billington was a self-conscious attempt to overthrow Christian society which has served as the standard for all revolutions since.
Such revolutions begin as democratic but always move towards centralization and genocide.
The Young Turks, Bolsheviks and Nazis follow this subversion template.

The point re-intellectuals overestimating their capacity to effect social transformation was well made. People have this impressionistic idea that the revolutionary faith was inspired by the critical rationalism of the French Enlightenment. In fact it came out of the occult romanticism of secret societies.
The intoxicating revolutionary “isms” or ideologies of the 19th and 20th centuries were idolatrous attempts to sweep aside the Christian faith by preaching and practising salvation through the shed blood of man. The revolutionary idea that a totally man-made secular order created without the need for divine intervention was the revolutionary route to human perfectibility was put into practice by the secret societies and agents of “permanent revolution” like Robespierre, Napoleon, Carasso, Parvus (who coined the term in the first place) and Trotsky.
However the democratic and secular dystopia thus created has turned into centralized genocidal dictatorship in most cases. From the French Revolution which has served as the standard for all subsequent revolutions to the Young Turk, Bolshevik and Nazi movements revolutionary simplicity and blood atonement were the cathartic driving forces of change.
In the case of the Young Turks discussed above we can see how this revolutionary faith meshed with Kabbalistic prophecy re-creative destruction. Such prophecy lies at the heart of freemasonry which by the eighteenth century had been thoroughly infiltrated by revolutionary conspiracists with a Zionist agenda.

What people can’t get their heads around is that a small group of people with an idea like Zionism were willing to bring about revolutions and general wars in which millions would be sacrificed in order to achieve their goal.
They have this idea of inspired and intense noble-minded intellectuals inspired by slogans like Liberty, Equality and Fraternity being the driving force in bringing about historical change.
These slogans in themselves are self-evidently for anyone who takes the time to sit down and think about them utterly contradictory and irreconcilable goals.
They are not the means of achieving the human perfectibility supposedly envisaged by their proponents.
