“Never” join the euro? I wouldn’t support it now as a lack of a federal European government means downturns cannot be well accounted for (see e.g. Krugman). The US had a federal government before a single currency.
If however there were a federal EU government and the UK was a part of it, absolutely I’d support the euro. The dollar clearly helped the US.
