Straw in the Stink 1095

The Mail on Sunday is doing a very good job on the odious Jack Straw’s involvement in torture and persecution. I think that at last the truth has entered the established narrative. There is a little box in the report about my own evidence to Scotland Yard. I will type it out here as the Mail’s box format here is not internet searchable:

“Torture” Evidence Handed to the Yard

Further pressure was piled on Jack Straw last night over the “rendition” of Libyan dissident Abdel Hakim Belhadj after sensitive documents were handed to Scotland tard detectives.

Craig Murray, former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, passed the documents to police as part of the inquiry into the behaviour of Ministers and intelligence officials over the detention of Mr Belhadj in Bangkok in March 2004.

The opponent of Colonel Gadaffi was flown to Tripoli, where he claims he was tortured.

Mr Straw, who was Foreign Secretary at the time, has denied ever condoning the use of torture to extract information.

But the documents appear to cast doubt on that position.

One memo, headed “Uzbekistan: Intelligence Possibly Obtained Under Torture” contains minutes of a meeting Mr Murray held with senior Foreign and Commonwealth officials on March 8, 2003 to discuss his concern that the UK could be in breach of international law by possessing intelligence obtained by torture.

The minute, dated March 10 2003, quoted Linda Duffield, then the FCO’s Director of Wider Europe, apparently justifying the use of such material as part of the fight against terrorism.

A second memo, dated March 14 2003, and written by Simon McDonald – the Straw’s principal Private Secretary – to Ms Duffield says Straw has read the minutes and “agrees that you handled this very well”.

Mr Murray is understood to have told police that during Mr Straw’s time at the FCO diplomats were told to only refer to the policy on torture verbally.

Mr Murray said last night “My evidence stated that Jack Straw introduced a policy of allowing evidence obtained by torture to be used. I also told them that written evidence had been destrpyed, and we were told to not commit details into writing.”

There is a slight misquote in the above. It should say Jack Straw introduced a policy of allowing intelligence obtained by torture, not evidence. In fact it was specifically stated such intelligence would not be produced as evidence in court (people were imprisoned without charge or rendered instead). The instruction not to put things in writing was given to me personally, I don’t know if others were told the same. As I was the only one protesting, perhaps not.

These links are to the documents in question.

The first two were obtained by Freedom of Information Act request. Details of the CIA’s colllusion with the Karimiv regime’s torturers have been redacted by the FCO. Last week Jack Straw came out and argued strongly for the effective abolition of the Freedom of Information Act. Now there is a coincidence for you.

Well done Komodo for all those links whilst I have been outside trying to do some jobs. I just came in and Jon Sopel (ZBC shill for the New World Order) was on BBC News 24 interviewing the man who tried to simulate Gareth Williams getting into the bag, zipping it up and locking it from the inside. Sopel tried all angles to make the man say that Williams must have been more supple, smaller, lighter….
    .
If the subject was not so tragic and the inquest such a travesty of justice, it would have been funny. The man Peter Faulding who was a decent sort kept a level response and said he was the same weight and height as Gareth, that is was quite possible to get in and zip it up and that it was IMPOSSIBLE to lock it from the inside without damaging either the bag or the lock. Both were undamaged. He maintained that Gareth was dead when put into the bag otherwise there would have been DNA traces and/or fingerprints. He said that the matter will not leave his mind and he is thinking of it all the time.
    .
The police say they are continuing the investigation as new information has come from the inquest. I should say so.
    .
It is obvious that Gareth was killed, put into the bag (in a foetal position) which was put in the bath. I did not know about the heating being set on high.
    .
Another attempt by the establishment to cover up an extrajudicial killing.

Azerbaijan also neighbours historic Khazaria where the bulk of Israeli’s actually come from.

it’s a first step before they lay claim to their historic homeland.

Why O why are we smacking are faces against a brick wall.

There should be harmony on this planet. Why are the supposedly intelligent amongst us un able to get us all playing the same tune.

we came close, then 9 11 war on terror was implemented and from the better judgement of the “intelligent ones”, they did.

    Fan the flames of.

we lost trust, honesty, endearment, co-operation, commadery, freedom, commitment to good, a sense of giving, shared ownership, common sense ideas, forgiveness, ability to share. ability to work together, betterness, respect, ideals and interests in a common good, discussion of our differences and tolerances, guidance through mutuality.

Just a side note I have recently been talking with some traveller men, boys on different occasions and the one thing they all said to me is that they would love to have a proper paid job.

If those who earn millions didnt, then those who dont earn would get a whole lot more than just “muckey”

An honest days pay for a honest days work.

whats the old saying the meek will inherit the world…

Ch 4 ran an hour long advertorial tonight on the construction of The Shard, a vanity project of Irvine Sellar. Since the financial crash, the Qataris stepped in to the tune of £1.5 billion. The building, which is now the tallest in Europe, represents a massive consumption of resources, mainly concrete, steel and glass, to house some very rich people, a hotel, restaurants and offices and a viewing platform at the top of 75 floors.

‘The Gherkin’ may be self deprecating, but redeemably edible. ‘The Shard’ seems a charmless name for a wonder. Surely something dark about living/working in ‘the Shard’ as opposed to, the Pinnacle or the Apex.

  • Chris Jones

Unless the justice system of Britain finds out who killed Gareth Williams and tries them accordingly then the justice system of Britain doesnt work and is worthless. There is no ifs or buts – justice is either served or justice does not exist

  • Komodo

Agree about “The Shard”. Sounds like something by Terry Pratchett – the Bank of Ankh-Morpork’s new headquarters, staffed by trolls, part of which is sublet to the Thieves’ Guild. For this reason, it was originally named “The Shared”, but a photocopying demon couldn’t spell…

Anyone hear the emollient Mervyn King last night on R4 blaming everyone else for the BoE’s part in the crash, btw?

Heard King this morning in a cosy little tete-a-tete with Evan Davis; why do they all sound so chummy – oh silly me, perhaps it’s because they are all chums. They even got the football bloke in on the act.
An earlier piece described an experiment re the effect of irritating sounds on people – well that’s one for sure – the sound of smug, self-satisfied voices – people you feel are cocooned in some way from the realities of the effects of banking failure on the rest of us – putting the world to rights in a moral vacuum. Mea culpa my arse.

Theory: Williams was (like Mahmoud al-Mabouh in Dubai), injected with succinylcholine by one of two intruders, while the other held him. Succinylcholine is a paralytic agent and also causes hyperthermia (overheating). He was then incapable of resistance, and could be put in an airtight bag to die of CO2 poisoning or hyperthermia…the turned-up heating is significant. Accelerated decomposition was just a bonus. Succinylcholine is only partly metabolised by the body: most is broken down by enzymes in the blood, but 10% of the dose shows up in the urine. But that assumes the victim is alive for long enough for the compound to get to the kidneys. Williams died quickly. Most of the agent remained in his blood where it was still subject to enzyme action, and disappeared before the blood coagulated or started to decompose.
    .
The safe house Williams was in does not seem to have been in an area with good CCTV coverage. If this was a Mossad job, having learned from the al-Mabouh experience, would have scoped the vicinity for cameras, and possibly taken measures to disable any inconvenient ones. Although there was probably no need to use foreigners, it may yet be a good idea to check the records for dodgy passports presented at entry points. And a serious look at Israeli embassy, consulate and commercial staff might throw up a pointer or two.
    .
Only MI6 could throw any light on the possible motive for this. Was Williams actually working for someone else? Someone who murders people with succinylcholine? Was a message being sent? Another possibility, indeed.

  • Mary

Rose you are spot on. They are even replaying the interview on BBC 24 so that we, the idiots, receive their message fully.
    .
Komodo – yes. That would explain the bruise on the left forearm and some grazes which seem not to be have mentioned since first reported. This website seems to believe that Gareth was involved in tracking down Russian money laundering. His CV would fit certainly.

Can credence be given to DCI Jackie Sabire’s well publicized intention to carry on and solve the case? These are some remarks she made in a magazine called The Stylist.
    .
    “I’m a runner,” says
DCI Sebire. “I go running every day,
unless it’s the start of a murder
    investigation when you’re very busy,
and at weekends I’ll run seven or eight
miles. Sometimes that’s when I have my
best ideas because your brain is
churning over away from the office.”
In a case where leads have dried up,
the media can play a pivotal role.
    DCI Sebire says, “Anyone
who tells you they don’t take the job
home with them is lying – but you learn
to deal with it. It is difficult to find the
    balance between emotional and
    professional because you feel such
a tremendous obligation to the family
of the victim. They’re who you work
    the long hours for.”

I rather like what I’ve heard of DCI Sebire, Mary. I sense a problem-solving orientation which is familiar to me. If she gets pulled off the investigation, I don’t think it will be her idea.

Thanks for that little U tube video from the Olympic front line in the war on terror, mary, the MOD man could hardly catch his breath from bumblin’.

Rose mentioned it, Kibng in his rehearsed sounding interview this morning came over flustered. For the last three days since the double dip has sunk in he is increasingly trying to blame all others for it but not QE or the part he played in the fiasco.

I feel that he is preparing to increase interest rates considerably, costs that would have us creaking and working rather than thinking as to why we are in this situation.

The more I hear the more I’m advocating random selction, political parties and elections sooo had it.

Ms Wyatt was obviously unable to ‘find’ a member of the crew of HMS Conqueror suffering from PTSD. I heard on the grapevine that the officers had a good time on the way back from the sinking of the Belgrano (with 1,000 souls onboard) listening to recordings of sounds of men screaming. They found it very amusing apparently. The other ranks were disgusted.

Another 300 lives would have been lost if the third torpedo launched by Conqueror that hit ARA Bouchard (an ex US Navy Destroyer sold to Argentina) had exploded.

The frocks, the wig and the shoes intrigue me. They weren’t for himself, apparently, although they *could* theoretically have fitted him. Has anyone noticed the news that T Blair is about to arise from the forgotten in British politics? No doubt that some amount of £ or $ will change hands as Blair is known nowadays to share his political wisdom for a good reward. It seems that Labour did not manage to move from New Labour and now need a wisdom of their Master to claim back N10.
    .
Any other theories of why T Blair is probing British politics?
