Only Sweat the Small Stuff 922

I was called by a journalist yesterday who told me that in Dewsbury six years ago I shared a platform with Baroness Warsi’s now husband at a meeting against the persecution of Muslims. Sadly I couldn’t really help him as at the time I was doing hundreds such events and have only the dimmest of recollections of that one.

It is not merely amusing that Cameron refers Warsi for investigation for allegedly pocketing a couple of thousand quid while protecting Hunt who tried so hard to shepherd the Murdoch BSkyB bid past the winning post, while pretending to referee the event.

Nor is the lesson just that a Muslim woman will always be expendable while a fully paid up member of the ruling class will be less so.

The truth is that to trip up an MP over a little cash does not threaten the system. To tackle the massive institutional corruption by which corporate interests control the British state is a different question altogether.

Hunt is of course not the only case not to be referred. Nor was the Adam Werritty debacle, where rather than the proper investigative procedures Cameron organised a tidy little stitch-up by Gus O’Donnell which omitted almost all the key facts and particularly did not say what the entire scheme was about – the promotion of the interests of Israel. The Murdoch Empite, the Israeli lobby, these are amongst the interests that actually run the exploited citizenry of this poor wracked old country. Every now and then glimpses of truth emerge.

But must not be pursued.

I would expect the Syrians to release photos of the wreckage shortly. And the positioning of an AA battery near the flight line seems less of a happy accident if the I”D”F have used the route before.

    Komodo,
    .
Sky now running with the 100 metres quote in its Breaking News banner. Also they’ve picked up the quote that any unauthorised aircraft in that area “even if it was Syrian” was liable to be shot-down and the anti-aircraft crew had to react instantly. No mention of the Syrian claim that it was shot down by weapons with only 2.5km range nor any mention of the similarity with the 2007 Israeli flightpath though.
    .
And no mention on the BBC at all yet. Probably still running it by the Politburo.

  • Anon

BBC News Ticker now runs with Syrian claim that there was a “clear violation” and they had to react immediately. Doesn’t mention any of the more interesting Syrian claims made at the news conference.

The first two screamers have disrupted the morning overhead, spoke too early.
Also, further to Mary’s post on the moves by South American countries to oppose USAID, this little annopuncement on sunday, again by press TV, will put a significant spanner in the works of uncle Sam, causing self inflicted wounds and bad breath relations in future.
Drone’s to be used to intercept drug mules, more self inflicting aims here, and for general use against the ‘terrorists’ that want to live without US interference in their countries.

What if Mexico would fly drones over US territory checking up on the policing of the bario’s of Los Angeles?

Sorry your morning peace was shattered by the messengers of death freedom and democracy, Nevermind. Count them all out….and do make sure you count them all back. The Syrians may only have 10 ZSU-57-2’s, but at least one of them seems to be well positioned.
    .
Wading through a Google of MSM propaganda based on a single Turkish State TV release, I found this:

I see we have just passed comment no. 666!
    .
Nevermind I agree Balotelli is magnificent. In comparison the physiques of the English team seem poor. Their energy levels are lower. Perhaps they need to go on a Mediterranean diet.
    .
Ref this plane. Was it a Tornado or a Phantom? The fog of disinformation is swirling around this story. I am sure that when it happened, if it did happen, the ‘news’ channels were saying that the two man crew were safe having bailed out in their ejector seats.???

  • Komodo

At the moment, Mary, the drivelling hacks are making it up as they go along, lacking anything other than a Turkish TV report. The consensus seems to be that it was an F-4 Phantom, and that neither the crew nor their parachutes have been found. Their boots, however, have. They didn’t die with their boots on, then.

  • crab

If the pilots remains are not found, chances are wide open that the warplane was flown into obvious peril, by remote control. That would be a small mercy to save a life or two, in an incident used to instigate anger and slaughter.

  • nevermind

Crab, maybe a Eurofighter or a modern F 16, but not a Phantom or Tornado, have not heard of them flying by radio, the fact that it was 300ft. above the Med., not exactly skimming it, but still low, would discount such feat, not even if you have the radio controller, some SBS or navy seal bod inside Syria, holding the controls on shore.
But a fair point, if the gunners weho shot it down could see it with their bare eyes, so could anybody.

According to gateway trolls like Nick Cohen and his band of swivel-eyed groupies, Assange is paranoid because Sweden can’t extradite him to the US. It’s all just a ruse.
    .
So how come Sweden can’t give a guarantee that Assange won’t be sent to the US?
    .
“an official with Sweden’s Ministry of Justice said that, according to current legislation, Sweden couldn’t provide Assange with the guarantees he’s currently seeking.
    .
“Any such guarantee doesn’t exist,” Cecilia Riddselius, a staff member with the ministry’s Division for Criminal Cases and International Judicial Cooperation, told the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper.”
    .
    http://www.thelocal.se/41636/20120625/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
    .
A guarantee from either Sweden or the US would seem to call Assange’s bluff, in the terms of those attacking him.
    .
So why can’t these masters of the universe give the guarantee?
    .
They seem to be able to make rules to suit themselves when needed. Why not now?

contrary to the popular belief fighter pilots are not superhuman, and given the reported low altitude flight path in a bid to evade the Syrian radar, then there is every probability that the pilots have been minced and mangled along with the craft, and as ever in any accident shoes and boots somehow come off, hence the boots find.
    ,
The scenario of extra ordinary flight characteristics in an approximately 300 feet ceiling operation is equivalent to zero height ejection, and the decision to abandon craft has to be simultaneous to the hit, and any delay of more than one second shall prove to be fatal.
    ,
However, the current brouhaha subsequent to the exercise of the Syrian fire power, is a natural process, during which the disappointed belligerents try and find a new angle to hang onto despite the fact that their original test of the enemy’s reaction has given them the sore nose.
    ,
We can adduce that NATO are not in a prepared state to attack Syria within few hours, therefore, the bluster and acrimony is yet another measure of bearing down on Assad, and make him uncomfortable, alas Assad knows that the joint maneuvers (China, Russia, Iran, and Syrian forces) shortly to be held in Syria are in fact clear signs of his friends to stick by him, and not abandon him. Therefore it all boils down to the moronic notion of the Western propagandists to try and keep the momentum of the scurrilous lies, and attacks high, by keeping the “media” feeding the cock and bull stories to the punters, in case there still exists a residual chance of Libya-ing, Syria.

It probably was a ZSU-23-4 ‘Shilka’ -right calibre anyway.
And the Syrian account is fleshed out here:
    .
Makdessi pointed out that official correspondence with Turkey on Sunday clarified the details of the incident in response to the Turkish allegations that what happened was a Syrian aggression against Turkey, with the correspondence stating that on 11.40 AM on June 22nd, Syrian radar systems detected a flying object heading towards Syrian territories that performed a left turn towards the northeast and climbed down to a low altitude where it disappeared from the radars, only to appear suddenly at an altitude of 100 meters, 1 to 2 kilometers from the beach and Syrian land, and became suddenly visible to the naked eye.

He added that later, it turned out that the object was an aircraft heading towards the beach and Syrian land at a speed of 700 to 800 kph, which engaged the rules of engagement employed in all sovereign countries, prompting Syrian anti-air defense to engage it.

Makdessi affirmed that the weapon used in repelling this violation of Syrian airspace was anti-aircraft artillery firing 23.57 rounds stationed on Syrian beaches, hitting the aircraft directly, adding that the aircraft was seen heading left afterwards and crashing in Syrian territorial waters.

He said that Syria is committed to the good neighborly relations with Turkey and that it wishes to resume cooperation with the Turkish side, noting that Syria wasn’t the one who harmed the bilateral relations is not Syria, which in the worst cases applied the principle of reciprocity, adding “We might respond to every positive step from the Turkish side with positive steps on our side if the Turkish government still believes in good neighborly relations with Syria.

Wouldn’t actually recommend this site as a model of neutral reporting, but that seems to be what Makdessi said.

Wonderful rebuttal of the fact free Cohenite “argument” against Assange.

    .
Meanwhile on Fox news, former Bush dirty dumpster digger Karl Rove (author of many dubious prosecutions of political opponents) is of the opinion that US law will not support Assange as he doesn’t meet the test of protected media outlet. Rove is currently working with the Swedish govt.
    .
Meanwhile again the US has said that they will no longer be asking for the extradition of the Lulzsec chap from the UK.
    .
So the Cohenites argument is just a heap of old pooh dooh.

  • Courtenay Barnett

    @ Mark Golding,

    You say:-

” I believe a NATO strike on Syria is likely, this from a viable source (RAF).”

So then – if this did happen:-

    1. Syrian response?
    2. Position of Russia?
    3. Position of China?
    4. Position within the broad spectrum of the Middle East?
    5. Implications for the world at large?

Broad questions – but pertinent for all.

The recent appointment of John Griffith-Jones, the senior partner of KPMG, as chairman-designate of the Financial Conduct Authority in the U.K. is troubling. Rather than properly investigating the causes of the banking and financial crisis, dealing with the culprits, and instituting fundamental reforms, the U.K. government’s appears set to just bury the truth and paper over the cracks in the hope of a recovery. Syria shot at second plane, Turkey says
Nato will discuss the downed F-4 jet on Tuesday
    .
Turkey says Syria fired on one of its planes that was taking part in a rescue operation for a warplane shot down by Syrian forces last Friday.
    .
Turkey’s deputy PM said the CASA search and rescue plane, looking for the F-4 Phantom jet, was not brought down.
    .
He vowed Syria would “not go unpunished” but that Turkey had “no intention” of going to war.
    .
Nato will discuss the downing of the jet on Tuesday at a meeting called by Turkey, a member state.

Anon, whatever the size of the holes, we can safely take it that if they were under 50mm, the weapon was fired at the a/c well inside Syrian airspace. Which absolutely disposes of the primary Turkish claim.

  • Mark Golding - Children of Iraq Association

    Courtney,
    .
The trick is of course to obtain a UN mandated resolution for NATO intervention. Nothing else will do. In that respect Turkey is key. The military commanders want to create a huge retaliatory response from Syria against Turkey. A single downing of a Turkish aircraft is not enough, the recent incident is, well, a test – Ha! it was a ‘test’ flight to gauge the Syrian response. I believe we will witness another more involved encounter from Turkey calculated to invoke a ballistic missile response from Syria, specifically the Pantsyr-1 missile which has been studied by British experts. If we can engineer substantial damage by steering these missiles into a residential area in Turkey we may be able to squeeze UN balls for intervention while at the same time blame Russia for faulty weaponry.
    .
Sorry but loose mouths sink ships…

  • Komodo

Or Turkey was simply testing Syria’s defences. Turkey is a bit short of collateral to offer the US in exchange for the drones it so badly wants to keep the Kurds under control. Intelligence is a good trade commodity, and naturally the US would not want to be seen, either by the US public, or much of the Arab world, as overt aggressors -just yet. BTW I think Syrian generals would defect en masse if they were asked to open a war against Turkey. They’ve got their hands full enough without that. This may even be a ploy along those (to “us” desirable) lines.

  • Komodo

Oh, and if Turkey wants US drones, it will have to mend its fences with (censored). Any sale has to go through Congress, and we all know whose word is law there. Look out for a rapprochement shortly as Erdogan realises which side his bread is buttered.
