Libyan Blowback 229

It is a terrible thing if any US diplomats have been killed in Libya, as now appears likely. My condolences to the families of all affected. They add to the thousands of deaths in Libya, and one can only hope that finally some of the proponents of “liberal intervention” will realise that bombing people into democracy is not a viable policy.

But part of the responsibility for these deaths lies with the US and Israeli far right activists who made a film insulting Islam, with precisely the intention of provoking a spiral of violence. There are many interest groups longing to promote a perpetual climate of war and fear; some of them, like these filmmakers, are easier to identify than others.

Be it attacks on US diplomats in Libya or drone strikes on villagers in Yemen, it is all part of the same hateful cycle of violence – from which fortunes have been made in the arms, mercenary and security industries, and which climate of hatred has given cover and unflinching western support for resource grabs by Israeli illegal settlers.

So many people have poisoned what should be a beautiful world. The deaths of US diplomats in Libya get noticed. The evryday deaths of so many others in this manufactured conflict do not.

Benghazi killings: Tariq Ali was right to describe incodents like this not as a “clash of civilisations” but as a “clash of fundamentalisms.

Sorry about typos in last comment. My keyboard and I don’t get on very well. Just to add to what I said, incidents like this in which Westerners are killed by Muslims as a result of some idiotic provocation (on the anniversary of 9/11 of all days) generate intense anger in the West. Now we know what the victims of Obama’s drones feel like every week when they are casually slaughtered, unseen, untelevised, uncounted, out of sight, out of mind with not a word of protest from the Western corporate media.

Martin Luther King: “I have a dream”.

    Obama: “I have a drone”.

“What is not talked about as frequently as it should is that the extreme Islam used to be the belief of a very small minority. When I was a student in Karachi in the sixties, the only Islamic student organization had the following of perhaps less than 5% of the general student body.”

It needs to be stressed, (not to Value Plus who will know more about this than I do), that the catalyst is almost always supplied from Saudi Arabia, and consists of a pseudo-wahhabi concoction produced by tame clerics under the control of the Saud family. This is the sort of ” extreme islam” which is exported with the assistance of the United States and its allies.
It is not really wahhabism because it is frozen in time and entirely submissive not to the One God but to Uncle Sam and Aramco.
In the circumstances the reaction of the salafis (backed and empowered by the US) to the threatened movie are wholly predictable. The murders are all part of the script. The dead were evidently dispensable.

Channel 4 News were somewhat disregarding the effect of the film and were putting it in the Alki Ada frame following the CIA drone attacks in the Yemen earlier which resulted in six deaths and because it was the anniversary of 9/11. Their Washington reporter, Matt Frei, ex BBC of course. added to the piece.

You would imagine that La Clinton would keep quiet in view of the irony of the location of the deaths, scene of some of her crimes at the start of the ‘uprising’, but no, she had to stand and mouth some empty words.

    Craig,

Some of the things you have written here recently, have been wonderful in their inspiration.

I am writing now to try and explain my respect for Diplomats, and all their staff, regardless of what country they come from and what their own personal or political views are.

The courage of all you guys is wonderful.

Its just a pity that governments can’t reach the same moral and courageous standards – as you diplomats, staff, aid workers, and even soldiers sent to represent their countries doing it live, and for real.

I don’t understand how you guys put up with them – especially the soldiers.

How can a British Soldier Put Up With someone like Hoon?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1388195/Disgraced-Geoff-Hoon-lands-job-defence-firm-Westland.html

    I don’t understand it.

You still buy the official story?

Empty, Mary? She condemned the “act of senseless violence”, bless her. I stopped laughing only as I considered how that would go down in Fallujah.

“I come not to bring peace, but to bring a sword” – Gospel of Matthew 10:34.

History suggests that religion thrives opposing murderous exploitation by foreign forces. History also tells us that these religions subsequently become the empire.

Yes, Islam is thin skinned. I defend the right to mock any religion. But the original sin today is with the US empire.

If we repeatedly bomb these people into medieval lives we should not be surprised when we sometimes receive a medieval response.

  • Phil

    Tony0pmoc:
“I don’t understand how you guys put up with them – especially the soldiers.”

Most soldiers are working class boys given a crap education and subjected to a lifetime of propaganda. Often their choice is the army or dole. And those tv adverts look cool.

Now if you had said officers…

  • Duncan McFarlane

The people who made the film certainly knew they would be causing serious trouble by making it, but the American diplomat wasn’t responsible for the film being made. The US Constitution guarantees practically absolute freedom of speech and would have ensured any attempt to ban the film would get reversed by the Supreme Court.

Completely insane to kill anyone for making a film, even one that insults your beliefs – and unfortunately it will result in lots of calls from the nutters on the other side to punish/deport all Muslims/ban Islam.

    @Mary
“MEPs vote for action on complicity in rendition, torture”

I bet the largely toothless parliament will talk, maybe even huff, but nothing will actually happen.

  • Tony0pmoc

    Phil,

I never quite understood why, but when I started my last job about 30 years ago, they gave me the job title

    Senior Officer

So I was probably subconciously addressing the Officers.

I always thought it was my job, to give the Top Brass Hell (if they were incompetent) – (and Praise if they were Brilliant)

I treated my staff the same way, but always took full responsibility and shielded them from any criticism if they had done their job properly and used their own initiative to try and make something work, and it fucked up. All the mistakes were mine. Their successes were there’s – And I told everyone what they had achieved.

Isn’t that what deadership is about?

How very inappropriate. EVE Online should get their priorities right.

American diplomat Sean Smith, killed in Libya protests, is mourned by his EVE Online gaming community

Sean Smith, one of the U.S. diplomats killed in the violence in Benghazi, was also vital to the diplomatic success of the online gaming community EVE Online, many of whose 400,000 users are mourning him today.

    Komodo,

Note the back peddling in the msm from mentioning the 100 Jewish investors and the Jewish director/writer/producer/chief/cook/bottle washer. There is a concerted push to implicate some Egyptian quoptics (because Q is a scary letter in the west these friendlies are spelt with a C instead “Coptic” sounds a lot less threatening than spelling with Q) in making the film to incite murder and mayhem in Egypt as a bonus.

    Also did you notice the banners on the site you have forwarded running;

    Egyptian Cleric says:
“‘Husbands, beat your wives so they will mend their ways,”

[this is based on an interview of nineteen o donkey circa Battle of Omdurman, this chap gave to some TV show and since then MEMRI (yeah those mossad front shops) has been making hay ever since]

    As well as

‘US would have to actively support Israel if it attacks Iran’

(This of course is based on the perverse notions that the shitty little strip of land is now the Imperial shitty strip of land and US is a client state of such a splendid little turd empire.)

As for the film a bunch of infants’ school-leavers with their video phones could have done a better job out of making it, so far as the writing and acting goes that project would be very much matched by a bunch of preschoolers getting together and setting about being rude to a grown up.

The sad fact is the tossers on this board who are actually defending this outright racist and crass stereo typing as “freedom of expression”.

The film was produced by an Israeli/American Zionist which apparently emerged out of Benghazi….Hmmm!

No journalist that I’m aware of seems to be asking the question as to why it was made and how it came to be that it emerged out of Benghazi at this tumultuous time.

Could the reason why this crude piece of anti-Islamic propaganda was made and released be anything to do with the likelihood that the Zionists would have calibrated the kind of reaction that subsequently ensued?

Libya is a prime illustration of what Western liberation has meant in the ME in terms of increasing exponentially the influence of Salafist fundamentalism in the region.

It seems highly probable that the ambassador’s death will now be used to justify increased logistical – perhaps military – US support to the Syrian ‘rebels’, in addition to increasing Israeli sabre-rattling in respect to Iran.

The Zionists appear to be steadily achieving their geopolitical strategic goals. More fool the Islamists for doing their bit in helping them to achieve these goals.

I’m going to try this again, without links, so maybe it goes through.

I haven’t heard of The Quilliam Foundation before today.

They wrote an article called “The Attack on the US Consulate Was A Planned Terrorist Assault Against US and Libyan Interests”.

I’d like to know what others think of the work of this foundation. Thanks for any responses.

  • Fedup

    Harpie
They are the Blair Muslims! A group of self aggrandising, self appointed, and self awarded “leadership” who were funded and courted by Blair in the way of keeping token “black/brown” skinned guys (in return for a foundation status and grants thereof) that endorsed his villainous and racist crusade against all things Islamic.

In fact this group has been at the receiving end of some sharp jabs from this blog, (if my memory serves me well).

  • Ruth

I think the matter is an internal one for Libya; a case of whether or not Benghazi flourishes as the commercial centre with control over the vast oil resources in its region.

The orchestrated agenda to create violence in Benghazi will jeopardise this and Benghazi will remain downtrodden and out of control.

  • harpie

Fedup, Thanks for that. Am I dim, or what?!! Should have thought to just search this blog-a wealth of mentions.

    Komodo,

A great link – welcome back

I read this from within the link:

..the ambassador and three other Americans dead may have been a planned operation by a group linked to al-Qaeda timed to coincide with the anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, sources in the US and Libya said Wednesday.

OK! so it was ‘a small band of Zionist foot soldiers armed with rocket grenades’ that attacked the Embassy – My thanks Rob(QRT) keep safe.

  • nevermind

Consider this, the film is the event people expected during the Olympics, a deliberate flaming, inconsiderate and targeted, designed to whip up feelings and justify further war on terror, terror.
Ruth, they reap as they have sown, let us remember the thousands that died in the Bombing of Misrata and Sirte, NATO bombs that fell from great hight during a ‘NO FUCKING FLY ZONE’
Its not about what happened with Ghaddaffi, its about Libyans and what level of foreign control they want to be under.

By the looks of it, not much. Viva Libya, form your own tribal council and let your people benefit from your crude….

Thing is, their crude’s so pure you could easily put it into your tanks without cracking, should you want to go into Syria or Iran, Libya is your petrol station to do it, hence the US special forces presence there.

Is there any bullshit like religious bullshit? The cause of most wars throughout History is the silly doctrines that assemble opinions, attitudes and beliefs formed by mythical entities who had some perspective which has been perverted by the mobs of unthinking adherents. Politics is bad enough without the complicated emotions attached to dogma and rhetoric.
