The mainstream media for the most part has moved on. But there are a few more gleanings to be had, of perhaps the most interesting comes from the Daily Mirror, which labels al-Hilli an extremist on the grounds that he was against the war in Iraq, disapproved of the behaviour of Israel and had doubts over 9/11 – which makes a great deal of the population “extremist”. But the Mirror has the only mainstream mention I can find of the possibility that Mossad carried out the killings. Given Mr al-Hilli’s profession, the fact he is a Shia, the fact he had visited Iran, and the fact that Israel heas been assassinating scientists connected to Iran’s nuclear programme, this has to be a possibility. There are of course other possibilities, but to ignore that one is ludicrous.
Which leads me to the argument of Daily Mail crime reporter, Stephen Wright, that the French police should concentrate on the idea that this was a killing by a random Alpine madman or racist bigot. Perfectly possible, of course, and the anti-Muslim killings in Marseille might be as much a precedent as Mossad killings of scientists. But why the lone madman idea should be the preferred investigation, Mr Wright does not explain. What I did find interesting from a man who has visited many crime scenes are his repeated insinuations that the French authorities are not really trying very hard to find who the killers were, for example:
the crime scene would have been sealed off for a minimum of seven to ten days, to allow detailed forensic searches for DNA, fibres, tyre marks and shoe prints to take place.
Nearby bushes and vegetation would have been searched for any discarded food and cigarette butts left by the killer, not to mention the murder weapon.
But from what I saw at the end of last week, no such searches had taken place and potentially vital evidence could have been missed. House to house inquiries in the local area had yet to be completed and police had not made specific public appeals for information about the crime. No reward had been put up for information about the shootings.
Behind the scenes, what other short cuts have been taken? Have police seized data identifying all mobile phones being used in the vicinity of the murders that day?
The idea that the French authorities – who are quite as capable as any other of solving cases – are not really trying very hard is an interesting one.
Which leads me to this part of a remarkable article from the Daily Telegraph, which if true points us back towards a hit squad and discounts the ides that there was only one gun:
Claims that only one gun was used to kill everybody is likely to be disproved by full ballistics test results which are out in October.
While the 25 spent bullet cartridges found at the scene are all of the same kind, they could in fact have come from a number of weapons of the same make.
This throws up the possibility of a well-equipped, highly-trained gang circling the car and then opening fire.
Both children were left alive by the killers, who had clinically pumped bullets into everybody else, including five into Mr Mollier.
Zainab was found staggering around outside the car by Brett Martin, a British former RAF serviceman who cycled by moments after the attack, but he saw nobody except the schoolgirl.
Her sister, Zeena, was found unscathed and hiding in the car eight hours later.
Both sisters are now back in Britain, and are believed to have been reunited at a secret location near London.
There are of course a number of hit squad options, both governmental and private, which might well involve iraqi or Iranian interests – on both of which the mainstream media have been very happy to speculate while almost unanimously ignoring Israel.
But what interests me is why the Daily Telegraph choose, in the face of all the evidence, to minimise the horrific nature of the attack by stating that “Both children were left alive by the killers”? Zainab was not left alive by design, she was shot in the chest and her skull was stove in, which presumably was a pretty serious attempt to kill a seven year-old child. The other girl might very well have succeeded in hiding from the killers under her mother’s skirts, as she hid from the first rescuers, and then for eight hours from the police.
The Telegraph article claims to be informed by sources close to the investigation. So they believe it was a group of people, and feel motivated to absolve those people from child-killing. Now what could the Daily Telegraph be thinking?
if he was right on the Geiger Counter of course we’re into radio active stuff and not dissimilar from the reaction at Al Hilli’s Oaken Lane address is it? Connection?

So much to digest and so many good questions from all.
Did you notice this little snippet from the latest le parisien article:
Le suspect, lui, n’a pas été employé comme gendarme réserviste durant l’année 2013. Elle lui a notamment permis d’assurer la sécurité au sein de la cour d’assises d’Annecy pendant plusieurs mois. Sa fonction permettait surtout à cet homme de se mettre en valeur auprès de ses interlocuteurs.
The suspect had not been employed as a reservist gendarme in the year 2013. It notably enabled him to provide security in Annecy Assize Court for several months.

The last sentence is difficult to translate:
Sa fonction permettait surtout à cet homme de se mettre en valeur auprès de ses interlocuteurs
His function mainly allowed this man to show himself to advantage around his partners? its representatives??
Anybody with better French than me?
And can anybody find any more about the later citation for the MSMV which I mentioned above. EM and the main stream press don’t seem to have picked up on this one yet.

La médaille des services militaires volontaires (MSMV) échelon « argent » just means ‘silver medal’ literally ‘Medal for Voluntary Military Services of the silver degree’
But the burning question of the day is, how could he have been nominated for this medal by the DGGN (Direction générale de la gendarmerie nationale), if he’d been booted out dishonourably!?
Payoff, or subterfuge???

Come off it, Tim. You’re investigating someone you suspect might well be on the inside, you’d use every kind of subterfuge under the sun to conceal the true state of the enquiry from him and every one else, wouldn’t you?
Rememember it’s not cluedo, you have to amass sufficient evidence, sufficient to arrest, charge and secure a conviction in a court of law.
The thing is, I’m sure I remember one of the investigators saying once something like,’we may even be investigating one of our own’. Anyone else any recollection of that? Who said it, when??
The french police have nothing on this guy,he is purely a collector of antique guns….as many others are.
In my view this arrest is in retribution for something which happened when he was in the force…..to coin a phrase , Devouassoux knows where the bodies are buried in the force !
Pathetic Eric Maillaud….a jobs worth.

Tim, I’ve warned you before not to talk about any “Munich Massacre” anymore, as I have debunked it as a myth. Even when you quote from the American based [largely edited by individuals with an American ethos and the typical deplorable Polical correctness that so sorrowly typifies the prevailing mood on the North American continent] so-called Wikipedia, you need ALWAYS to write [sic!] after exclamations such as “Munich massacre”. Understand?
Recapitulation: What happened at Munich?
‘Only’ two got killed by the hostage takers; the remaining nine, five out of eight hostage-takers and one West-german police-officer was killed in the ensuing gunfight, after the two helicopters — just given in accordance to an agreement about free transfer away — cowardly and amateurish are attacked by West-german police. There are several reports that Israeli personnel was directing the perplexed German officers to attack.
Something to consider:
“Sword of Justice” was last heard on August 28th.
Sword of Justice threatened to blackmail Saudi Aramco with the data stolen from their computers.
Sword if Justice was ranting tha USA in its virus code but there was no typical religious topic in its code as it is usual for religious people.
Sword of Justice was posting on pinterest several times in mid to late August 2012.
In all his posts, he said that “this is just the beginning” and that “you will hear much more from us”.
However, since his last post on August 28th, nothing had been heard of “Sword of Justice” ever again. No new hack, no message, nothing. It definitely looks as if that person standing behind “Sword of Justice” does no longer exist since end of August 2012.

20 Feb, 2014 – 12:57 am back to tour DM new photos including the moribund Mollier there is definately something of a “semi-circular” nature next to the drivers door but I can’t get an angle on it. Cyclists usually carry a back pack but there is none to be seen and its not detailed enough to tell whether he still has his helmet on or not. This is definitely where he laid and bled as it matches up with the early noted blood stain. It confirms what I argued contrary to what the police put out. Even more significant however is the yellow markers which I think we can fairly safely conclude, indicates the location of the spent cartridges ejected from the firearm. NOW NOTE THIS: I can count 14 though four are somewhat less distinct. The first thing it confirms without dispute is they ARE NOT at the top end of the layby. Therefore this PROVES the police story that the shooting happen there is INTENTIONALLY FALSE. I have suggested this consistently from the first based on other indicators but this proves it. This MUST therefore scotch the other police story of the reversing BMW as this would have had to happen AFTER the shooting had started. If the spent cartridges are not at the top the car could not have carried out the defensive reverse manoeuvre. THIS IS THE SECOND POLICE LIE PROVED. The sweeping tyre marks must therefore have been made by another vehicle giving the lie to the third Police claim that this was a lone nut on a bike and no other 4 wheel vehicle was involved. Now the next lie it confirms was that all the spent cartridges were located next to the rear off side of the car, which I also poured scorn on. This new photo proves I was right. If 14 markers are shown, that’s almost all the 15 EM announced at first. The ones in the front/left foreground would approximate to someone firing into the car on the drivers side as most semi automatics eject up and to the RIGHT. Then I believe I can see four markers on the nearside of the car in the vegetation partly obscured, which on the same basis would fit the shots being fired right to left on the photo. It is also reasonable to assume spent cartridges ended up in the undergrowth from this one. The problem with the two directions is that you have to factor in a time lapse as ONE shooter moves from the right hand side to the drivers door which would have involved the risk of SAH running over him. Two shooters fit much better but again the police have ruled this out. Given the above we cannot rely on their stated opinions. Then whilst I’m at it! If SAH reverse manoeuvre is ruled out he COULD NOT have struck SM as the police also claimed. So we are faced with only two alternatives: either that he was struck and dragged is a lie; or he was struck by the attackers vehicle.

20 Feb, 2014 – 10:50 am “Sword of Justice” certainly COULD be SAH I agree. If it was him I’m sure the British will know by now with all his computers analysed.

20 Feb, 2014 – 8:54 am where have I referred to Munich recently??????????
Mochyn69
20 Feb, 2014 – 7:25 am your reasoning doesn’t hold. After seventeen months, if you were correct, they would have collected all their evidence before they arrested him. What do we see? Immediate back tracking. Changing the reason to “gun running”! Then the twaddle about the “not-matching DNA” when previously they put out there was none!!!!! Was his mobile in the vicinity on the day or wasn’t it. Now they have the actual man, have the foresters confirmed his identity as the man they spoke to on the bike? Was he a highly regarded decorated gendarme/municipal policeman/security man or an ignorant rude loner? And this doesn’t even include the bloke in charge of the forestry department. In other words just more of the same confusion and obfuscation.
@Tim V 3:23 p.m.: Thank you for this. I believe other vehicles were present at the layby, which were four-wheeled ones. The two dark areas to the right of the al-Hilli vehicle seem to indicate this. The vehicle impression furthest away from the a-H BMW seems to be a squarer one: like a Land Rover, perhaps?
I was also looking for the helmet, but the image has been intentionally blurred to make these vehicles difficult to see.
@Mochyn69 7:25 a.m.: I’m thinking back to colonel Russell Williams, who was in charge of a search and rescue helicopter sent out to look for one of the women he himself had killed. They didn’t find her, of course.
One of the villagers says Mr. D. is “too stupid” to be the killer:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/the-alhilli-massacre-a-murder-mystery-unsolved-9142315.html
The article also calls him a “a glorified traffic warden, whose main job was to help children cross the road and stop cars parking in the wrong places”.
So how did he get that silver medal as a reservist — for sharpshooting skills?
Another BFMTV article (in French):
http://www.bfmtv.com/societe/exclusivite-bfmtv-scene-crime-chevaline-photo-714342.html
Worth a read (via Google translation for me) to see what is currently the unofficial official line (ie how the press are being briefed).
It says at the bottom:
“Pour des raisons de droits, les photos initialement publiées dans cet article ont dû être retirées.”
Which I think means:
“the photos in the original report were removed for copyright reasons”
(I don’t claim to understand French, so please correct if I’m wrong).
I presume this was Gendarme footage so I wonder who supplied it and why?
So what can we say about the multiplicity of falsehoods and false trails, the inconsistencies, the contradictions emanating from the French Prosecutor/Police? There can only be one convincing explanation, namely cover-up and cover-up in such a high profile case can only point to the French Government ordering it to prevent embarrassing/incriminating details becoming public. A secondary but never the less fascinating issue is why snippets of evidential information appear to have been “drip-fed” into the investigation, it would appear by the British to force the French hand. Unfortunately as sections of the “ice sheet” have fallen away, new stories or lines of enquiry have been announced that have just made the farce more risible. The “DNA none compatibility” is just such a case in point. They must know they are opening up these “sink holes” everywhere, so it has no rational explanation other than intentional “muddying the waters”. These three latest photographs showing a prostrate body, details of the cartridge location and the family prior to the shooting is another puzzle, first because it so clearly breaches EM’s hard and fast rule and because it drives a “coach and horses” through a number of planks in the French interpretation of events. So where did they come from; who released them? They were in Parisien but then promptly withdrawn suggesting someone intervened and pulled the plug. However they get repro’d in the DM with some fuzzing this time on the childrens faces and the head of Mollier(?) But they are now out there. If EM and French Govt did want them published, who did? Either, it seems to me we have an internal “mole” or whistle blower or a British (SIS) source. Remember the ONF source remarkably, was in a BRITISH TV programme! Just think how extraordinary this really was. He gave out information about TWO ONF vehicles and the supposed killer on his bike, that had been kept secret by the French for a year, and now the BRITISH let the cat out of the bag. Same with the BMW X5. Yet no word of recrimination for the ONF man? As if to rub home the point, EM recently makes the threat he will prosecute anyone who gives details of the identity of the recent arrest, yet immediately his name is everywhere. So who IS part of the plot and cover-up and who is trying their best to ruin their best laid plans?
“Devouassoux, who was sacked as a cop last year, was arrested following a series of “interesting” tip-offs in response to an e-fit which showed a biker spotted near the crime scene.
Mr Maillaud said: “In the case of this former police officer we have someone who strongly resembles the person who was very close to the crime scene. We found he was a hunter.
“He was very, very interested in war weapons, and in particular weapons of the Second World War.
“He has a rather strange character.
“His phone gave off a signal close to Lake Annecy [at the time of the murder] which leads one to conclude that it would have been possible for him to be at the crime scene at the time of the crime, but all this remains yet to be verified.”

Just to highlight the apparent conflict in EM’s statements. Earlier he had stressed nothing had come from publishing the “photo-fit”. Now he says the arrest of Devouassoux resulted directly “following a series of “interesting” tip-offs in response to an e-fit”!
This is the Google translation of the BFMTV article at http://www.bfmtv.com/societe/exclusivite-bfmtv-scene-crime-chevaline-photo-714342.html
Lots of new details I haven’t seen reported before. Just one creates a problem namely it claims Zainab was inside the car during a reverse manoeuvre and survived the hail of bullets that killed the other occupants. How can this be reconciled with the previously establish line (from statement and blood splash) that the three were outside together? It would also mean that both SAH AND his daughter got back in the car whilst being shot at. This is highly unlikely on both counts. Nor do the spent cartridges support this construction nor that the shooter comes from the top of the layby. And how in gods name would Molliers body end up in that location and position if he had been run over/dragged by a reversing BMW? See what you think? Wood splinters from a gun?
BFMTV could obtain documents that throw a little light on the killing of Chevaline : a photo of the al-Hilli family before the tragedy and images taken at the scene of crime. A man was placed in custody Tuesday thanks to sketch released last fall. A year and a half after the quadruple murder, what are the tracks on which investigators work?
The last photo of the family
Investigators have done a tremendous job of viewing CCTV images captured and video toll highways. They all inspected, to cameras and mobile family. So that’s the first document: the latest picture of the al-Hilli family. We see the father, mother and two girls. It was most likely taken by the grandmother from 3:17 p.m. to 3:12 p.m. ET Arnand, route du Moulin. At 3:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., several people heard gunshots. This is a shot taken just 13 minutes before the murder of adults in the family.
Tire tracks in the ground
Second document: the crime scene on the parking Martinet, aerial view taken from a helicopter. In this photo, there are new elements to the soil, which had not been identified previously. Tire tracks indicate that the victims’ car was originally parked facing slope. BMW immobilized in reverse, has declined in a desperate attempt to escape the killer. We see the tire tracks in the ground. “The killer had to be in the middle, and he sprayed the car while she made a U-turn,” Dominique Rizet specialist police and the justice on BFMTV analysis.
“When the scene was discovered by William Brett Martin, a former member of the Royal Air Force, the engine was still running. The driver still had his foot down on the accelerator, so much so that the left rear tire was completely worn out.
William Brett Martin was unable to open the doors of the vehicle were locked with a security system. He broke the driver’s window on the right side and cut the engine. All bodies at this time, even inside the car.
The car could run him over
Third document: the crime scene taken from the parking lot. The cyclist Sylvain Mollier therein elongated. It has four bullets in his body, two in back, one in heart and one on his left cheek. It inside the right elbow abraded, fractured ribs and collarbone right affected. We think the car ran over him and he could be the first victim. BMW remained eight hours and, pending the arrival of investigators.
The 7 year old girl, Zainab, was at the front of the BMW on a raised seat on the side of the cyclist. She opened the door and fled. She was shot in the back left shoulder and butts on the skull so strong that wood chips will leave splinters. She also received kicks that were given with the intent to kill, said one of the doctors who examined her.
The only thing to remember the youngest of the family, Zeean, 4 years old, who had found refuge in the rear floor of the car, is that his mother shouted to his sister: “Run, run!”
The police now want to reconstruct the scene in 3D to try to reconstruct the chronology of fire. In all, 25 shots were fired.”
SM’s injuries:
… right elbow abraded, fractured ribs and collarbone right affected.
Abrasions and broken collar bones are common injuries to racing cyclists when they crash. To me they might suggest SM was knocked off his bike rather than run over. Perhaps another translation thing? Call for our French experts again…
….and even after nearly 18 months, they still can’t decide whether there were 21 or 25 bullets fired!!!
Bleb
21 Feb, 2014 – 2:20 am ref. your observation I would say that is the most detailed information as to the nature of injuries to date. We have to be a tad wary of any information put out based on all the previous. However if we take those reported Mollier injuries at face value, what can be deduced?
The quote is “four bullets in his body, two in back, one in heart and one on his left cheek. It inside the right elbow abraded, fractured ribs and collarbone right affected. We think the car ran over him and he could be the first victim.”
The first thing we notice is yet more contradictory statements on matters that cannot be ambivalent, particularly after detailed autopsy carried out immediately following. SEVEN bullets were officially announced. Later ones said FIVE. This one says FOUR! It has been officially stated he was shot TWICE in the head. Here only ONE head-shot is reported, and rather strangely “in the left cheek”. A trained killer, as this undoubtedly was, would not aim for the cheek as it cannot be guaranteed to kill. It’s unlikely he would miss. If he had he would have fired again. All of this raises significant issues.
Then there is this quote: “It inside the right elbow abraded, fractured ribs and collarbone right affected. We think the car ran over him and he could be the first victim.” The collar bone is, we were told, the most common broken bone in the body. Whether this is still true or not, it usually points to a contact shock travelling up the arm. In other words the hand comes in contact with a solid object. Either the body is moving and the surface is not, as in a fall; or the person is stationary struck by a moving object. In either case the arm is usually extended for protection.
So we have two possibilities: Mollier thrown forcefully to the ground on his right hand side or stretching his right arm out to protect himself against an approaching object, such as a vehicle. I have fallen off my bike. I hit my head and had abrasions mainly to my hand and wrist with a few minor scratches elsewhere. I came off at speed but did not fracture the collar bone. Given the circumstances of cycling up hill, I do not think the injuries support a theory he was shot whilst riding. The alternative of being struck by a vehicle whilst riding is ruled out by the apparent absence of damage to the bike.
Now finally, on the basis of broken rib and collar bone this spokesperson, put forward as an expert, concludes “We think the car ran over him”! I beg to differ. The nature of Al Hillis BMW and particularly the ground clearance, would have undoubtedly resulted in greater physical damage both internally and externally. In addition it would have left tyre tread marks and other debris from the underside of the car. Nor can his final resting place in any way equate with being run over by the BMW.
Then we have the further official double speak that he was “dragged” by the Al Hilli car. Again the injuries in no way support this conclusion. Can you imagine the state of his unprotected skin on both arms and legs at least, were he to be dragged across loose gravel?
The only plausible explanation I can come up with for those stated injuries, if not caused by the projectiles themselves, is a vehicle striking him at speed on his right hand side, to which he automatically raised his right arm for protection. We can assume this was sufficient to knock him over. We are told two of the bullets entered his body from the back, so either he was first shot whilst recumbent face down or he managed to start running away from the shooter. We were told SAH was also shot in the back remember presumably doing the same.
The puzzling question remains, why the police are still putting forward an description of events they must know does not, cannot, conform with the evidence. The only explanation I can come up with is they are desperate to rule out a 4×4 involved in the killings?
It seems apparent from the three distinct impressions left on the wet ground that three vehicles were in the layby around the time of the murders. One of those vehicles was squarer than the other two: the 4X4 you refer to, Tim?
Another point: if Sylvain Mollier really was shot in the back four times, wouldn’t he have fallen forward? Perhaps the versions of the story that involve being dragged by a vehicle or moved by a bystander who happened upon the scene are meant to reconcile this discrepancy.
If any vehicle hit a person with enough speed and force to cause the kind of injuries we are told about, wouldn’t the vehicle have visible damage? So where are the photos of the damage to said vehicle — on the one that got away?
Is it possible that one side of this investigation is forcing the other side’s hand?
In answer to your question a couple of days ago about Saad al-Hilli and lasers, Tim, this may be more likely:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidar
Not quite sure what you mean Q. I agree a forward fall can break a clavicle – its very common especially in the old or those with weak bones. We must remember Mollier was a fit strong middle aged man. That’s why I suggested being struck by a vehicle (the killer’s vehicle) might be a better explanation. It is an idea I floated over a year ago. This is the first time specific details of his injuries have been made public and they don’t conflict with my suggestion. In fact they rather support it. What is absolutely clear is that they DON’T fit the official story of being hit by Al Hilli’s car for the reasons I have given. As to your point about damage to the vehicle, first 4×4’s are big hard objects; bodies are soft and vulnerable. There may not be significant damage to the vehicle. Second, the 4×4 is long gone and so say untraceable, as incredibly are all the other vehicles that were suggested to be there. As to the question of lasers they may or may not have been employed. They say they used heat seeking helicopter I think which located neither survivor in the car or anyone in the woods as far as we know. We were told that the first responders took photos and video that we have never seen. These latest photos (one from ground level and one from the air) could have been afternoon/evening of the fifth but obviously AFTER Zainab had been removed. It’s not clear if Zeena or the deceased are still in the car.
I don’t disagree with you, Tim. I am trying to understand the order of events relating to being hit/shot, and which way he would have fallen, depending on the order of those events. It’s hazy to me. I don’t see evidence of the al-Hilli vehicle hitting a person/bicycle, but all the images are limited in their views. Surely there would be forensic blood evidence on a vehicle (even a motorcycle) that hit a person hard enough to break a clavicle. Surely a bicycle involved in a crash with a motor vehicle would have been mangled. There is no hope of finding a 4X4 with blood on it now.
I’m also trying to make sense of the “double taps” that were reported in the past.
The possibility of this event being staged, with the some of the deaths occurring at another venue or out of sync with what we have been told is still on the table, IMO. Another thought: were the clothes worn by the al-Hilli family when they were found at Chevaline the same ones shown in their final photo? Only the first responders know for sure. That would be useful knowledge.
Do you suppose hospital records have been checked for anyone who sought treatment for motor vehicle accident injuries or gunshot wounds in the days after Sept. 5, 2012?
I was thinking of the lasers in relation to SAH’s business interests, and whatever might have led him to Chevaline.
@Q

‘The possibility of this event being staged, with the some of the deaths occurring at another venue or out of sync with what we have been told is still on the table, IMO.’
I totally agree with you about this Q. In fact since the pic of the Mollier ‘corpse’ emerged, this idea has been much in my mind. In the pics there is no sign of any al Hilli corpses, and I am trying to imagine in what circumstances they, and both the girls, would have been removed, while leaving poor old Mollier lying there, uncovered and unprotected.
WBM’s description of the victims in the car is also worth re-reading. Sounds very strange. He broke the glass, turned off the ignition, then paid attention to the victims and whoahoa .. suddenly realises ..
They say the heat seeking helicopter didn’t locate four year old Zeena in the car .. is the answer there in plain sight? They weren’t there at all??
So, Eric is ‘cleared’ ..

It says that he could not have been at the crime scene.
However, Eric will be prosecuted for being a participant in a criminal organisation and for illegal gun and ammunition trading.
It isnt totally unlikely that he organised the Luger for a killer.
