Not Forgetting the al-Hillis 22278

The mainstream media for the most part has moved on. But there are a few more gleanings to be had, of perhaps the most interesting comes from the Daily Mirror, which labels al-Hilli an extremist on the grounds that he was against the war in Iraq, disapproved of the behaviour of Israel and had doubts over 9/11 – which makes a great deal of the population “extremist”. But the Mirror has the only mainstream mention I can find of the possibility that Mossad carried out the killings. Given Mr al-Hilli’s profession, the fact he is a Shia, the fact he had visited Iran, and the fact that Israel heas been assassinating scientists connected to Iran’s nuclear programme, this has to be a possibility. There are of course other possibilities, but to ignore that one is ludicrous.

Which leads me to the argument of Daily Mail crime reporter, Stephen Wright, that the French police should concentrate on the idea that this was a killing by a random Alpine madman or racist bigot. Perfectly possible, of course, and the anti-Muslim killings in Marseille might be as much a precedent as Mossad killings of scientists. But why the lone madman idea should be the preferred investigation, Mr Wright does not explain. What I did find interesting from a man who has visited many crime scenes are his repeated insinuations that the French authorities are not really trying very hard to find who the killers were, for example:

the crime scene would have been sealed off for a minimum of seven to ten days, to allow detailed forensic searches for DNA, fibres, tyre marks and shoe prints to take place.
Nearby bushes and vegetation would have been searched for any discarded food and cigarette butts left by the killer, not to mention the murder weapon.
But from what I saw at the end of last week, no such searches had taken place and potentially vital evidence could have been missed. House to house inquiries in the local area had yet to be completed and police had not made specific public appeals for information about the crime. No reward had been put up for information about the shootings.
Behind the scenes, what other short cuts have been taken? Have police seized data identifying all mobile phones being used in the vicinity of the murders that day?

The idea that the French authorities – who are quite as capable as any other of solving cases – are not really trying very hard is an interesting one.

Which leads me to this part of a remarkable article from the Daily Telegraph, which if true points us back towards a hit squad and discounts the ides that there was only one gun:

Claims that only one gun was used to kill everybody is likely to be disproved by full ballistics test results which are out in October.
While the 25 spent bullet cartridges found at the scene are all of the same kind, they could in fact have come from a number of weapons of the same make.
This throws up the possibility of a well-equipped, highly-trained gang circling the car and then opening fire.
Both children were left alive by the killers, who had clinically pumped bullets into everybody else, including five into Mr Mollier.
Zainab was found staggering around outside the car by Brett Martin, a British former RAF serviceman who cycled by moments after the attack, but he saw nobody except the schoolgirl.
Her sister, Zeena, was found unscathed and hiding in the car eight hours later.
Both sisters are now back in Britain, and are believed to have been reunited at a secret location near London.

There are of course a number of hit squad options, both governmental and private, which might well involve iraqi or Iranian interests – on both of which the mainstream media have been very happy to speculate while almost unanimously ignoring Israel.

But what interests me is why the Daily Telegraph choose, in the face of all the evidence, to minimise the horrific nature of the attack by stating that “Both children were left alive by the killers”? Zainab was not left alive by design, she was shot in the chest and her skull was stove in, which presumably was a pretty serious attempt to kill a seven year-old child. The other girl might very well have succeeded in hiding from the killers under her mother’s skirts, as she hid from the first rescuers, and then for eight hours from the police.

The Telegraph article claims to be informed by sources close to the investigation. So they believe it was a group of people, and feel motivated to absolve those people from child-killing. Now what could the Daily Telegraph be thinking?

    Kudos Tim.
Pretty cool to open the link you provided, and then slide forward on Street View and have a look inside the black car parked on the left and which indeed has the steering wheel mounted to the right, which can only mean: An Englishman.

    Proposal:
strong>Intp1,you understand some French and like to translate, so what about transcribing the video that Marlin didn’t understand, and then put this French text with the English translation next to it and then upload the lot somewhere?

I haven’t included the British Police on that list. Basically because they’ve said so little other than reportedly lacking confidence in the French investigation and disagreeing with EM’s view that ZAH was a principal suspect. Their silence is untypical of a murder of this sort and their reason that the French are taking the lead is unconvincing. If anything they have been even less transparent than the French. Absolutely NOTHING on their side of the investigation although they must have lorry loads of information. The only explanation that works is international and state security issues. This is reinforced by a very public armed response to a visit to ZAH, the confirmation that the girls have permanent armed protection and the time it took for the girls to be reunited with family members against police objections. There surely must come a day when the Surrey/Kent/Metropolitan police will have to justify their approach and outline the conclusions from their major investigation. When will the Home Secretary be challenged as to progress in the Commons?

As I recall the workmen were masons/bricklayers, so it would be the Leca (klinker) work that they did at the time, and the woodwork we see has been fitted later.

I see 2 “blurs” on the staircase. Does Google “blur” people (children in this case, judging by the height) out routinely?

Nice summary of the points made in the past Marlin
27 Feb, 2014 – 10:01 pm. It’s good to consolidate what we’ve concluded. As regards the point about DNA that I made back along, what I can’t understand is why such contradictions are made publicly by Maillaud. He surely could not have forgotten his earlier announcement that the one unaccounted for DNA sample was contaminated and therefore useless. So why even entertain the idea of a match with Devouassoux? It’s illogical. Maillaud’s no fool so is he doing these things to give the game away in the only way he can, like his statement right at the beginning the crime was unlikely to be solved?

Now here’s a fairly DRAMATIC idea. Having now seen the “last photograph£ of Iqbal holding Zeena @

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/10647731/Alps-shooting-former-policeman-arrested-as-final-al-Hilli-family-photo-emerges.html

and looking again at the car, I have become convinced as to the virtual impossibility of 1. Zeena being able to conceal herself under the skirt of her grand-mother in that limited space and 2. that she would be able to do so for no less than EIGHT PLUS HOURS!

Consider the amount of space available between front seats and rear, then factor in legs of two women, then check out the size of Zeena, then bear in mind this is not as in a recent US case where a woman was discovered in the back of a large vehicle with darkened windows and covered in materials, this is a vehicle with the window blown out!

There would not be one person looking in there but numerous ones. Not amateurs but professional used to car accidents and similar. Not just one passing glance but eight hours of of inspections.

Not a movement? Not a whimper? Not a snore? Not the smell of urine? No sniffer dogs? No heat detectors? No checking for signs of life of the two women? Then we have the intriguing initial Maillaud statement that one child had died!

So I don’t buy this story. It is beyond comprehension. Given other false information we have passed the point of accepting the story just because Maillaud says it.

So I am being forced to the opinion that the youngest child was actually removed at an early stage, either by the killers or the ONF guys, either just before or just after the shooting and that the story was simply invented at a later stage to keep the involvement of additional people and vehicles out of the story, essential if the “lone nut” was to stick, apropos Marlin’s “can’t go there” elements.

  • Q

We have questioned the movement by WBM of Sylvain Mollier, into the place where he ended up on his back. That is just one of the problems with his story. There’s also that little matter of him running down the hill in a panic to enlist the help of PD, and the timing of his ride up the hill, and what he did or didn’t see in terms of vehicles, etc. So yes, his story has serious flaws. His role in this scenario is questionable.

  • Q

Isn’t it odd that the former Google-labelled “mairie Chevaline” in the village has morphed into a forestry company? Was it a forestry company/ies in Septemver 2012? If so, with the hunt on for a forestry vehicle, it is most odd that no one would have thought to look there for information and evidence, especially after Sylvie Lecoeur (who lived next door) stepped forward. It is also most odd that what appears to be a white Peugeot 206 is parked on the property where Sylvie Lecoeur lived (or claimed to live) in September 2012.

Another matter that came out of the TV interviews yesterday. Why was Eric Maillaud’s statement about the media’s release of crime scene photos merged into the Eric D. interview story? It is hard to believe that the police could keep a tight lid on the benign “last photo” of the al-Hilli family for so long, but that they let a bloody photo of Sylvain Mollier out of the bag. Was the real reason for Eric D.’s arrest something other that what we have been told? Yes, he could have been a convenient patsy, but not without any evidence. Was his arrest meant to rattle some cages within the community, or the GIGN itself? Would Eric D. have had access to the crime scene photos or evidence? Did his E-fit come from his Facebook page? Did the police intentionally let the SM photo get out for their own reasons, then cry foul to make it look like they didn’t? Did the British team leak the SM photo?

It has occurred to me that every police officer of any kind in the area would have been called in to assist in some way with a crime of this scope. Someone like Eric D. might have been useful in traffic control, as he has been reported as someone who was authoritarian in his approach. Were Eric D. and his co-arrestee Jean-Luc Falcy affiliated with the workers who blocked the road? Does Eric D. know something important, with his arrest meant as a warning to him and others about what will happen in the future if they speak out?

Are we really supposed to believe that Swiss security companies do not check past employment records or references? On the other hand, we can grant him some things: that his current scooter is not a motorcycle, for example.

The silence of the villagers is quite remarkable. With all the gossip that goes on after an event like this, not one seems to have spoken out of turn. They either don’t know anything, or they are that close in their loyalties or fears.

I think we are seeing a lot of maneuvering at the moment. What will happen know that Eric D. has been rattled and sent back out into the community?

Isnt that blue car a BMW 4×4 ?
Maybe i am wrong but could somebody confirm?

Tim, whats the address of that wooden house?

Another thing: Falcy is a construction worker due to le parisienne.
A few weeks ago i posted the question about “how many construction workers do they have in lathuile?”

It definitely looks like one of the buildings on the patrimoine site has been lovingly restored to its original appearance. It is not the one Eric Devouassoux was working on, but is reminiscent of the same style of building and era.

28 Feb, 2014 – 4:38 pm yes and no (I think) Yes it is a BMW although in fuzzing the registration they’ve also obscured the distinctive grill, but the emblem on the bonnet still shows. An d no I don’t think its a 4×4 but impossible to tell without specification. It may be optional on that model. I think its a newer version of SAH’s car but again I could be wrong. BMW’s tend to suggest wealth one way or another. I think its this model. No doubt someone will correct me if I’m wrong!

    Q
28 Feb, 2014 – 2:58 pm so the forestry people (ie ministry of the interior) have taken over that municipal building. Useful little income for the chevaline parish council. pay-off for staying mum? previously in the yard there was a white peugeot 2/306 apropos sylvie lecoer. now surprise surprise there’s a onf jeep that fits the bill for tyre marks and “green 4×4”!

as to the leaked three photos that dig an even bigger hole for Maillaud because both undermine the stories he’s put out, rather than support or confirm them. my hunch is they have been accessed and leaked by british intelligence as part of their inconvenient “drip feed” and warning about the mayhem they can cause if they have a mind to. Alternatively it could be a french state employee simply fed up with the lies and wanting to do something about it. You’ll notice the camera and shot are numbered. in other word there are lots more where they come from. Who’d be Maillaud’s shoes? He must be having sleepless nights wondering how he’s going to extricate himselt, character intact?

  • Tim V

So how about the motorcyclist as killer is total fabrication to let the real killers off the hook? or that he was there in a observational role only? How about the French facilitated israel or american hit team to use a onf vehicle, zainab hit by accident and presumed to be dying but younger Zeena taken pity on and removed from scene, then either fed back in suitablysedated or just sent to hospital and claimed to be found at 12 mn? Is this why the authorities terrified to let them bact to family untin official story had bee drummed in?

  • Marlin

Intep1 10:01 PM. Thanks for the comment and I accept your addition – fits well.

So to my 10:01AM please add Point 7:

    7. WBM must not be considered a suspect no matter the obvious coincidence of his arrival upon the scene minutes, if not seconds later, the “hands covered in blood”, the interference with the crime scene (moving Mollier, searching pockets), etc. Anyone who reads about the Chevaline case for the first time will be dumbstruck by the way police treated WBM – not guilty, not held for further questioning, ex-RAF title bestowed despite having been out of RAF for lo so many years, and that curious interview provided by the BBC later.

So here is the updated list of what cannot be considered or questioned:

    * There must not be another vehicle in the lay-by
    * There must not be any hint of pre-arranged meeting – either with SM or a third part.
    * Consistent with the above, it is essential that SAH not be seen as arriving early at the car park and waiting around.
    * There can be no allusion to SM being the target. No way, no how.
    * There cannot be another party involved in the shooting, whether active or passive.
    * There cannot be a definitive answer to the number of bullets, their locations (double tap etc.) or for that matter, the nature of Zainab’s injuries.
    * There can be no DNA evidence to support anything, but the non-existent DNA can be used to exclude something (or someone).
    * WBM cannot be considered a suspect in any way connected with the killings. He is a “man above suspicion”, no questioning that is allowed.

Bleb 12:16PM – your point about the DNA is well taken, however, I’d like to keep the DNA point in for now. My reason is the same as the one Tim V provided so kindly in his 2:08Pm which alludes to the earlier statement by EM of the “unaccounted for” sample, which was “contaminated”. That is what I remembered as well, when making my point, though I can’t provide a link since much of my collection is on one of my other computers, currently being repaired.

I will, however, continue to watch the evolution of statements concerning DNA evidence, and revise as needed.

Also, you mentioned that ED could not be “matched” to any DNA found on the scene. Yes, that statement was made by the French police and, but you must admit, is a very curious reason for actually releasing someone. Especially in light of the confusion about what DNA was or wasn’t on the scene, and the earlier statement made about “contamination”. I think there were other reasons for releasing EM< but keeping him on the hook for some other weapons charges.

  • Marlin

Tim V – 2:08PM. I completely in agreement with your suggestion that Zeena was in fact removed from the car, before being found again, mysteriously smiling 8 hours later. I am going to add this point to my list as another element that we must absolutely never question. A bit later.

When I have a more complete list, some conclusions will really be suggesting themselves – as I said earlier, am already beginning to see the outlines of “something” emerging from the “fog”. I’m sure others have been seeing things all along (an aside – the process I’m after is not unlike uncovering an original painting from under layers of subsequent paint-overs. I have a recent case of that in mind, which is when it hit me that figuring out the PROCESS of the ‘cover-up” is what’s likely to pay some dividends in terms of clarity. I’ll try and find the link to that – the painter’s name escapes me just at the moment, but the story was in The Guardian).

Thanks Q for all the pointers on the strange evolution of the google maps. I love evolution! more on that also later (along the usual lines of you link and I speculate. Your contribution being definitely the more significant….).

Alas it is in French again! not sure how long they’ll allow this one to stand.

I have been thinking BTW that the fact that most people on this blog are English readers, whereas the MZT folks were mostly french, may account for some of the differences in opinions and points of view. Not all, to be sure, but may be the tone.

as things appear to me, based on my rudimentary understanding of French, the accounts in french appear very much to track with Maillaut and the french police. That includes speculations and opinions. By contrast accounts provided in DM, Telegraph, Guardian, BBC etc seem willing to broach more far ranging speculations, while voicing some skepticism of the French investigation – that is sometimes couched subtly, sometimes more overtly voicing doubt as to the competence of the investigation. The English accounts, including the recent panorama one tend to go farther afield and are definitely more willing to consider SM as the target than the French ones I have seen (again with the caveat that some nuances may be definitely “lost in translation”). Still, depending on people’s first language, they may be suayed by the tone and substance of the reporting, at least some of them.

  • intp1

    Regarding DNA
They may well be obfuscating the subject of DNA, they are certainly very economical with information though DNA info is not by any means alone in this. However there may be some nuances to take into account based on how DNA matching works.
There could be a difference for example, between being able to stand a contaminated sample up in court and being able to determine a match with reasonable scientific certainty because e.g. two DNAs mixed is not necessarily un-fathomable.
Also there could be a difference between being able to make a confident, positive match and being able to rule someone out negatively or a confident non-match.

  • Q

Will the al-Hilli girls be kept in protective custody for the rest of their days? What will happen when they reach the age of majority?

On another note, I’ve been listening to news about Cimmeria (aka Crimea, aka Ukraine) today.

I would like to point out that the reason the killer colonel Russell Williams eluded arrest for so long was the strange way in which DNA left in quantity at the scene of his B&Es was either “contaminated” or “incomplete”. There were many dozens of B&Es. How does someone repeatedly leave DNA at crime scenes, and none of it is deemed “complete” or “uncontaminated”? Is this some sort of international code for “special ops guy”?

28 Feb, 2014 – 8:27 pm I’d just repeat that opinion I quoted earlier that when you have presented a “lone nut its smelly smelly SMELLY”. Even if we had nothing else (and we have plenty not least that photo fit that looks as if it was taken straight off ED’s identity card) just the press releases which were as inaccurate as they were defamatory, shouts set-up. ED had been a decorated Gendarme apparently and the municipal policeman for years with a settled family domicile integrated into the local community. Whether he created a certain degree of animosity or not, no way can this be reconciled with the character assassination that must have come from a government source.

Sky has “The 48-year-old suspect, described as a quiet type who liked guns, was sacked from the force last June, according to the AFP news agency. ….he was near the scene of the killings at the time of the tragedy in September 2012.” (Contrast this with the obsessive secrecy about anything to do with the communication not to mention the fact that they knew the SAME day he was arrested. HOW GIVEN THAT IT WOULD BE ILLEGAL TO RESEARCH MOBILE RECORDS UNTIL POST ARREST?) “Inquiries that flowed from that appeal have led to the arrest of this man in Chevaline, the village that’s nearest to the scene of the murders and he is, I’m told, being questioned on suspicion of murder.”

The Scotsman is more accurate “France’s Dauphine Libere local newspaper added: “The man was arrested in the village of Lathuile, near Chevaline, on Tuesday morning.”

The Guardian had this: “Media reports in France, citing sources close to the case, said he was fired from his job as a municipal policeman last June in Menthon-Saint-Bernard, south of Annecy. He was described by Le Monde as a “taciturn” loner and “arms collector”.”

Channel 4 had this “believed to be involved in arms trafficking,” The Mirror had “described as“a reserved mountain man”and “The arrest, billed as “a major breakthrough”.

The Independent had this: “On Tuesday, Menthon Saint-Bernard’s former village policeman – a glorified traffic warden, whose main job was to help children cross the road and stop cars parking in the wrong places” “Mr Devouassoux was arrested on Tuesday after 12 weeks of surveillance, under official hypothesis four (H4) – that the murders were the work of a lone, random and local killer. As the Annecy prosecutor, Eric Maillaud, was at pains to point out on Wednesday, the former policeman had an “interesting” H4 profile. As village policeman, Mr Devouassoux had been accused on several occasion of making racist remarks, said Mr Maillaud. He had also been accused of behaving violently – usually verbally but on one occasion physically – towards foreign tourists. Two traces of DNA from persons unknown found at the murder scene – which may or may not belong to the killer – did not match a sample taken from Mr Devouassoux.” (Note the conflict with previous DNA “only lead” that was found to be contaminated by policeman and so discarded) “Local people in Menthon Saint-Bernard do not paint a flattering picture of their former village policeman. He had earlier been suspended after being accused of using municipal petrol in his own car.Michel, a retired lawyer and businessman who sometimes chatted to Mr Devouassoux, in the village bar, said: “He was never the same person two days in a row. One day he would be friendly, the next day aggressive. Michel used the word “lunatique” – a milder word in French than in English, meaning a person subject to abrupt swings of mood. “Yes, he sometimes made racist remarks,” he said. Alain, a former police officer, said that he doubted whether Mr Devouassoux would have been either wicked enough or clever enough, to have carried out the murders, “Killers are usually intelligent,” he said. “No one here believes that it could have been him. He is too stupid.””

An earlier Independent report (18.2.14) has “arrested a local man … sources in the investigation described him as a “hillbilly”, and a “ silent” man.”

“SOAAR” has this: “He is described by investigators as “an isolated, withdrawn, boorish character, also an amateur person to firearms and collector. “And it may soon be confused with its two-wheelers, as it is a” biker whose helmet could match that of the sketch. ”

“Vertimagazine” has ” This man, described as a “taciturn mountain” living as a marginal, amateur weapons, has a “strong resemblance” to the famous sketch released in early November 2013.”

Gulf News had this: “The source described him as “taciturn mountain man” and a gun enthusiast who lives on the fringes of society. Maillaud said the man bore a “strong resemblance” to the man in the identikit image.“This is someone who lives around Chevaline and who has no known employment,” the source said. “He was someone that investigators were looking at as part of their local leads.” ”

“Tootlafrance” had this “The man has been described by those who knew him as a “taciturn Savoyard” and a “gun enthusiast”, living on the margins of local society.” And this interesting little snippet that I haven’t seen before “In Britain, meanwhile, Surrey police failed to comment on the dramatic turn in the enquiry. They had been working on the theory that the murder was a professional hit linked to the victim’s brother and to the fact that al-Hilli had been working for the British Ministry of Defence.” Note: A PROFESSIONAL HIT LINKED TO HIS BROTHER”!

Meanwhile a friend claimed it was a “set-up” and everyone knew how corrupt the police were locally.

“I think that’s enough quotes” Ed.

  • Tim V

Perhaps just a few more to get the complete picture of what we are supposed to think of the man, directly and by inference.

“The arrested man lives in the village of Lathuile, the scene of another gun murder in November last year when masked gunmen shot a woman dead. Two men broke into the home of the owners of a private camping site.

“The woman was killed by a bullet to the chest while her husband was hit with the butt of the weapon.”

It is also the location of WBM’s holiday home as noted earlier by posters here:

Lathuile is also the home of Brett Martin, the British cyclist and ex-RAF Serviceman who was the first person to find the al-Hillis’ bodies.
Last night, Mr Martin, 54, said: ‘I have just heard on the news that the man is from Lathuile. It is uncomfortable that it is so close. I have no idea who it is.
‘It is a like any village in England, you know your neighbours but not everyone.’

“Another theory in the murders has been that the French cyclist was the real target for the killer. Mr Mollier is said to have been involved in disputes over a multi-million pound chain of pharmacies which was being transferred to his girlfriend Claire Schutz, 30, by her parents. Zaid al-Hilli, a payroll manager from Chessington, Surrey, was in Worthing on the day of the murders.

“This has been confirmed by police, who have also now discounted claims that he made a number of calls to Romania to hire a hitman.”

    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/arrest-over-french-alps-killing-of-saad-alhill-and-family-9136041.html

“A former policeman arrested in connection with the murder of a British family in the French Alps had a violent temperament and did not ‘like foreigners’, prosecutors revealed last night. But he was reportedly fired after he was found to be siphoning off petrol from his police patrol car, and after complaints about his ‘over-zealous’ policing.

“But he was reportedly fired after he was found to be siphoning off petrol from his police patrol car, and after complaints about his ‘over-zealous’ policing.
It also emerged he is a French military reservist trained in numerous forms of combat and that he has been attached to the National Gendarmerie, a branch of the Armed Forces, since 2001.

“He left the police – where his rank was loosely equivalent to a sergeant in the UK – in June after being found guilty of ‘misconduct’.
This means that the father-of-three would have been a serving policeman at the time of the Alps shootings in September 2012.
Police were last night also examining whether the murder of the Iraqi-born al-Hillis could have been racially motivated. Annecy prosecutor Eric Maillaud said he was aware of reports that the former policeman was ‘racist’, admitting: ‘He doesn’t like foreigners – but he doesn’t really like anyone who is not from here.’

This direct criticism is new to me: “Last night British detectives described the arrest as ‘very interesting’ but said they were stunned that it had taken so long for their French counterparts to identify Devouassoux as a suspect.
A source with knowledge of the joint French/Surrey Police investigation said: ‘Right from the start, Mr Maillaud was obsessed with theories rather than gathering evidence which could prove someone’s guilt.
‘His investigation should have concentrated on dysfunctional people living in nearby villages who have an interest in guns and a knowledge of the local area.’

Q – 2:58 PM. I like your suggestion that possibly the arrest of ED, the way it happened, the timing, the profile provided to all reporters of a “loner” ‘authoritative” gun collecting, foreigner hating man who was fired from the police – all lead to fitting of a man to pre-determined profile. Why, it’s even possible that he knew WBM who also lived in la Thuille, even if WBM claimed to not know him?

It is only natural to speculate that the entire arrest episode, smearing of his reputation and subsequent booking on Weapons charges” was meant to rattle Eric. may be frighten him away from disclosing information in his possession and/or hint to anyone else around what might happen if they were to break their silence.

I’ve seen the interview with ED and though I couldn’t understand every word, he seemed genuinely distressed as well he should be if innocent. Though Max, now on deadzone61 did not find his protestations convincing enough. Oh well.

Along those lines, who knows whether Falcy, the construction worker, was not arrested for similar reasons. may be he knew more about that road blocking than we heard from Fillion? may be they couldn’t trust him to stay silent and had to give him a little extra encouragement?

Applying again my “backwards” methodology – if it was as you and others suggest that ED was a candidate patsy that would fit EM’s preferred profile, to the point that they produced an eFit almost tailor made to fit, yet he was later essentially absolved from culpability in Chevaline, what does that tell us? possibly he had more ‘friends’ in high places than the hapless EM counted on? possibly the had a rock-solid alibi? or was it something else?

  • Marlin

More on timing of revelations: it is interesting that no sooner ED is arrested the picture of the dead Mollier appears on the BFM TV show. Just like that. Followed by a Daily mail article with the last photo of the happy family.

So for those of us who believe in the tit-for-tat theory of the battling French and British agencies, this is the recent sequence:

A.Press conference by EM near the anniversary of the Chevaline killings, revealing nothing new, and still hard on the hills of Ziad and a UK motive.

My assessment: bad move for EM – he nwas expected to give a little something.

    B. Panorama program with the interview with the ONF (who did not seem to have much of a French accent, but perhaps it was disguised deliberately), who saw a X%, RHD color grey or silver, giving a timing of 3:20PM going up, thus totally destroying the “no other car around” axiom. Furthermore, now WBM reiterates he too saw a car racing TOWARDS the martinet, something that both Tim V and I believe we heard mentioned in that first BBC interview but hotly disputed by others. The panorama program further gave some new timings (3:40PM for shots, 3:45PM for Brett arriving on the scene) plus the disclosure that earlier, the MC was actually seen at the lay-by and also seen by ONF2 further up. This would make the forest green ONF car the one WBM saw coming down.

My assessment; counter move by the Brits. Given the amount of information released, someone has gotten even more miffed.

    C. EM is effectively forced to release the eFit given that there was now ONF2 testimony they saw the guy’s face.

My assessment: Move forced on EM. French pre-selected the eFit which is why it’s a bit peculiar.

    D. Following no doubt a bit of a scramble, ED is arrested, then Falcy.

My assessment: counter-move by French as if to say – see? we found someone that might fit the bill.

    E. BFM TV – tells the french side but strangely with a photo of SM’s body included.

My assessment: British counter-move – and a warning to the french – arrest of ED not cutting it – not gonna stick.

    F. DailyMail article saves the crime scene photo, adds two others including the happy family last picture (I did not see that on the BFM program. Did I miss anything there?).

My assessment: Another counter-move by Brits – they increase the threat level – forget ED or falcy they seem to imply. Try another piste, dear French – we got more photos where these came from.

    G. ED is ‘exhonerated” from Chevaline participation. Don’t know about falcy – is he still under arrest?

My assessment: EM is sweating now – mad as hell about all those photos.

Did I get the sequence right?

If so, I’d say it’s time for another french move.

So here’s a possibility (I’m just speculating away here): Smart max with smart Shadwell helping work out the photo time to be 15:17 – just right! and not British time. And that fits the piste of the double trip by SAH. Compatible with the sighting by Fillon if we move it earlier to to 2:40PM.

The only problem? must now assume that ONF1 was confused about X5 vs the SAH BMW and also about the color of the car. as well as the passengers since ONF1 referred only to one passenger, the slightly bald one. As for the car sighted by WBM – it is now assumed to be SAH’s BMW – an assumption reiterated by WBM right at the beginning of the panorama program, ever so helpfully.

If this doesn’t look like a way out for the french, I don’t know what would.

My prediction: next move – Brits. Can barely wait – the suspense of it all!
