The mainstream media for the most part has moved on. But there are a few more gleanings to be had, of perhaps the most interesting comes from the Daily Mirror, which labels al-Hilli an extremist on the grounds that he was against the war in Iraq, disapproved of the behaviour of Israel and had doubts over 9/11 – which makes a great deal of the population “extremist”. But the Mirror has the only mainstream mention I can find of the possibility that Mossad carried out the killings. Given Mr al-Hilli’s profession, the fact he is a Shia, the fact he had visited Iran, and the fact that Israel heas been assassinating scientists connected to Iran’s nuclear programme, this has to be a possibility. There are of course other possibilities, but to ignore that one is ludicrous.
Which leads me to the argument of Daily Mail crime reporter, Stephen Wright, that the French police should concentrate on the idea that this was a killing by a random Alpine madman or racist bigot. Perfectly possible, of course, and the anti-Muslim killings in Marseille might be as much a precedent as Mossad killings of scientists. But why the lone madman idea should be the preferred investigation, Mr Wright does not explain. What I did find interesting from a man who has visited many crime scenes are his repeated insinuations that the French authorities are not really trying very hard to find who the killers were, for example:
the crime scene would have been sealed off for a minimum of seven to ten days, to allow detailed forensic searches for DNA, fibres, tyre marks and shoe prints to take place.
Nearby bushes and vegetation would have been searched for any discarded food and cigarette butts left by the killer, not to mention the murder weapon.
But from what I saw at the end of last week, no such searches had taken place and potentially vital evidence could have been missed. House to house inquiries in the local area had yet to be completed and police had not made specific public appeals for information about the crime. No reward had been put up for information about the shootings.
Behind the scenes, what other short cuts have been taken? Have police seized data identifying all mobile phones being used in the vicinity of the murders that day?
The idea that the French authorities – who are quite as capable as any other of solving cases – are not really trying very hard is an interesting one.
Which leads me to this part of a remarkable article from the Daily Telegraph, which if true points us back towards a hit squad and discounts the ides that there was only one gun:
Claims that only one gun was used to kill everybody is likely to be disproved by full ballistics test results which are out in October.
While the 25 spent bullet cartridges found at the scene are all of the same kind, they could in fact have come from a number of weapons of the same make.
This throws up the possibility of a well-equipped, highly-trained gang circling the car and then opening fire.
Both children were left alive by the killers, who had clinically pumped bullets into everybody else, including five into Mr Mollier.
Zainab was found staggering around outside the car by Brett Martin, a British former RAF serviceman who cycled by moments after the attack, but he saw nobody except the schoolgirl.
Her sister, Zeena, was found unscathed and hiding in the car eight hours later.
Both sisters are now back in Britain, and are believed to have been reunited at a secret location near London.
There are of course a number of hit squad options, both governmental and private, which might well involve iraqi or Iranian interests – on both of which the mainstream media have been very happy to speculate while almost unanimously ignoring Israel.
But what interests me is why the Daily Telegraph choose, in the face of all the evidence, to minimise the horrific nature of the attack by stating that “Both children were left alive by the killers”? Zainab was not left alive by design, she was shot in the chest and her skull was stove in, which presumably was a pretty serious attempt to kill a seven year-old child. The other girl might very well have succeeded in hiding from the killers under her mother’s skirts, as she hid from the first rescuers, and then for eight hours from the police.
The Telegraph article claims to be informed by sources close to the investigation. So they believe it was a group of people, and feel motivated to absolve those people from child-killing. Now what could the Daily Telegraph be thinking?

Arabic news sites covered the drone crash near Baghdad airport. As U.S. forces are out, the air defense must be in the hands of Maliki security forces (read Shia and perhaps with IRCG supervision). Article in Al Quds.

@ Tim Veater 9:24 pm: True. There is probably a forestry vehicle that is similar in capability to a military DROPS vehicle, and less obvious. It’s easy to imagine something like this in a forest firefighting situation, hauling equipment in and out to build fire breaks, etc.
Surely the French wouldn’t buy Watchkeeper drones without taking them for a spin on their home turf. The Hermes 450 is certified for use in civilian airspace.

“A cousin of Mr Al-Hilli, who was contacted in Baghdad but refused to be identified, said: ‘If you investigate and find out about Saad’s job, you will know who’s behind his killing.’
The above quote stook with me from yesterdays article in the Mail?, I spent a lot of time looking at SSTl last night – who they dealt with and what they have done, they have definatley become a very big player over the last 5 years with their network of small spy/photographic satellites and shared launches with the Likes of Tehran and QinetiQ. They have just developed a new – NovaSAR-S Synthetic Aperture Radar that can see through any weather conditions or natural barrier like forestry. They have received hefty Government investment and have worked with China, Nigeria and other countries.
Could this be something to do with seeing a build up of troops in Israel? seen something he shouldnt have?
Or did he have another role top play as a double agent or was this a sting operation which is a well used tactic in Mi6 and Mi5.
This is politically motivated crime!”

Thanks Q!!! I’m still lurking!
Funny as the new article we read yesterday about the testing of the Israeli drone it mentions that the drone also had a camera that could see through weather etc.
I’m really into the Intelligence part of this story and have been trying to figure out who was the agent, the officer and how WBM fit into all this! Officers are always placed in companies like SSTL, EADS, Ariva, Airbus etc and they are big players and goes into the protection of the countries economic needs and provides great cover. If Saad was the officer running Mollier that would make sense he was trying to keep an eye on someone or gain access to a location. Or Maybe Saad knew something he shouldn’t or was trying to get hold of something he shouldn’t! Great new bit of news about the Drone and does explain how they tracked Saad etc,mi also thought that maybe during the test flight they received a red flag on Saaad or one of the party and decided to send someone in to deal with it.

It would seem that most of the Uranium that is used in France for both military and civil
functions has been mined over forty years, in the post colonial country of Niger.

“The global uranium sector remains depressed with the uranium price falling more than 50%, declining share values, and reduced profitability of uranium producers since March 2011 and into 2014. As a result, uranium companies worldwide are reducing costs, cutting corners, and limiting operations. They are now looking more to traditional areas of low costs and poor governance (such as Africa) as the location for any new uranium mines.”

The “man from the Balkans” comes to mind, but look at the other locations where a 50-year-old formerly in this unit might have served. Iraq is one.
David Mason has written about this unit in “Marching with the Devil: Legends, Glory and Lies in the French Foreign Legion”.

Connect the dots
David Mason points out in Chapter 25 of his book that 2e REP served in Comores. That’s ironic. Let’s look at Mali hostage Philippe Verdon:

What are the ties, if any, between that suicided Legionnnaire who is said to have been involved in a relationship with Sylvain Mollier’s sister, Sylvain Mollier and the al-Hillis? Was the suicided paratrooper more than a simple Legionnaire?
The money is written off by European governments as an aid payment, or else delivered through intermediaries, like the French nuclear giant Areva, a state-controlled company that a senior negotiator said paid €12.5 million in 2011 and €30 million in 2013 to free five French citizens. (A spokesman for Areva denied in an email that a ransom had been paid.)
The four French hostages were working for the French nuclear energy company Areva when they were kidnapped in Arlit, in northern Niger in September, 2010.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-24735293
A state-controlled French company has paid $58.1M (2014 value) in ransom to Al-Qaeda since 2008. Which “state-controlled French company” could that be? Let’s see, the one that mines uranium?
A cargo plane loaded with nothing but three suitcases stuffed with cash, er — “humanitarian aid”, delivered to Mali’s capital Bamako, and more! Algeria! Hostages! Terrorists! Big money! Lies! Your link has it all, Ricki Tarr!
Michael Norton, come on down. The latest Disappearing Aircraft mystery may be solved. Cargo plane crashes after stop in Algeria, in Tuareg territory in the Sahara Desert. Four missing.
Second link also intriguing, Ricki. Hmmm. Mysterious phone calls to a number in Romania that suddenly stop, a sudden “vacation” to a Swiss bank, a meeting in a remote location in the French Alps, missing passports, a suicided French Legionnaire and paratrooper, retired, who has worked in a unit that has seen all kinds of action in the African continent and is based in Corsica, criminal organizations working as subcontractors for a cut of the action, ties to the local victim, governments that lie about paying ransoms…I don’t see any similarities at all.
Aside: David Cameron is arming and advising the Kurds in Northern Iraq, in advance of a likely NATO operation. Oil, not gypsum.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/04/britain-arm-kurds-isis-northern-iraq
Note to self: Britain and the U.S. do not agree with paying ransoms. France pays ransoms to the tune of $58.1 M and counting. This is a source of conflict between France and its state-owned entity on one side, and Britain and the U.S. on the other.

Your post …
In my archive, I still have this comment posted very early after the murders became known:
“I copied the few commments on the indymedia site, earlier, just after the DA-notice comment from ‘Manchester based Journalist’, but not including the comment of 15:12 quoted by Anon here, concerning General Yossi Ben Hanan (chief of defence at Paris Israeli embassy) picking up three unknown others in helicopter at Chambery Airport (close to the scene).”
At the time I listed the post as “uncorroborated.” Has this event been discussed and considered false? Pls advise.
Review of D-notice and Gen. Yossi Ben-Hanan
As of today, I will change my opinion to “possible”or even “more likely.”

The DA Notice System.
More recently, the Secretary had been asked how many ‘D Notices’ had been issued to the BBC between August 2011-12 and whether there were any ‘D Notice’ restrictions on the reporting of the murders of the Al Hilli family. These and several other requests showed how little the DA Notice System, its span of oversight and workings were understood by the general public.

About Yossi Ben-Hanan – Director of SIBAT, Israel MOD – has been involved with the military-industrial complex across the globe. All shows of military equipment and demonstrations Yossi Ben-Hanan would be present. See

○ Eurosatory 2006 Aerospace show in Paris – June 12th, 2006
Large military contracts with India and Russia [pdf] lists his presence.
One of the arguments to put this event aside was Yossi Ben-Hanan had retired in June 2012 from his post as head of the Defense Ministry acquisitions delegation in France.
However, I just googled as follows: Yossi Ben-Hanan was badly injured on the Golan Heights in the Yom Kippur war of 1973, he was rescued by a daring commando action of Yonathan Nethanyahu. Ben-Hanan named his son Yoni, he works at the Israeli embassy in Paris! A good reason to visit Paris in September 2012 and take part in a special operation? Ben-Hanan has exceptional knowledge of Paris, IAI and Elbit Systems.
See also my earlier comment here @BooMan – No trace left of D-notice at Indymedia UK … I’ll have to disregard it as false.
There is also an Israeli consulate in Berne, Switzerland.
