The Al-Hilli Conundrum 6629

My post on the shootings in France has brought tens of thousands of people to this site – but not to read my dull contribution. People are coming to read the comments from other readers.

Today’s development of the bomb squad descending on the al-Hilli house does not in itself worry me enormously. You may recall the massive terror scare that was ramped up when some Muslim students in Manchester were found to own a bag of sugar.

In fact we have the opposite phenomenon today, with the spook-fed “security correspondents” on TV lining up to tell us it is probably just everyday household stuff. This deviation from the standard Islamophobic “Muslims = bombs” narrative is so startling it makes me wonder why the “move along, nothing to see here” line is being taken so quickly.

My own security services sources insist that al-Hilli was not a person of current interest to the UK intelligence agencies and was not involved in anything clandestine. I have no reason to disbelieve them. On the other hand, the limited and confusing information in the media is almost entirely from official sources. I find it very strange indeed how little attention has been paid to the murdered French cyclist, and how easily it is presumed he was just a passerby. Surely it is as likely he was the intended victim and the al-Hillis the accidental witnesses?

Please do read the comments on my first entry on the subject to see the debate unfettered by the censorship in the mainstream media. This is perhaps my favourite comment:

From Janesmith101

All comments regarding Sylvain, Al-Hilli and a possible nuclear link are being removed from sites I’ve posted on in The Guardian, Independent and Huffpo UK.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/sep/09/alps-killer-motive-baffles-police

Here was my comment, I added as a point of fact it was completely speculative and an unproven theory in a later comment, also removed.

Sylvain Mollier, the ‘passing’ cyclist, was in fact a nuclear metallurgist who worked for a french nuclear company called Cezus (a subsidiary of Areva). Cezus fabricates and processes zirconium into metal and nuclear grade zircoaloy for nuclear fuel assemblies – it also has other applications in aerospace such as components and ceramics for missiles and satellites. Mr Al-Hilli was also a skilled aerospace engineer, on what looks to be his first camping holiday.

What is the probability that two highly skilled engineers managed be at the same remote place, at the same time, yet still managed to end up dead as a result of what looks to be a military style assasination?

As someone else pointed out in The Independent comments, the deceased were found by a ‘retired’ RAF officer who, we assume, will recieve perpetual anonymity as a witness. If the police are looking for a motive, try an intercepted rendevous by a security service fixated on denying a hostile power illicit nuclear technology.

http://wrmea.org/component/content/article/162-1995-june/7823-israel-bombs-iraqs-osirak-nuclear-research-facility.html

The Huffington Post UK reports that this wasn’t the family’s first trip to the camp site. An earlier report had asked other camp site visitors whether they had seen the family before and they had replied they hadn’t. If this isn’t wasn’t the first visit by Al-Hilli, it might slightly increase the odds that he knew or had met Mollier before, this being the last in a series of rendevous of a transactional nature. Mollier lived and worked locally.

Again, I’m not sure of the truth of these reports, there is some very sloppy journalism, as there is always seems to be. I’ve read for example Mollier’s company Cevus descirbed as a steel firm something which it is patently not, but perhaps it may have been a detail lost in translation.

An interesting comment summing up some of the strange coincidences, at least, surrounding these murders. My other favourite comment calls me a “macchiavellian shill”.

I have only one thought of my own I want to add at the minute. Al-Hilli was a Shia muslim and had been on pilgrimage to Qoms in Iran. What if it is indeed true that he was in possession of no especial nuclear or defence secrets to pass on to the Iranians, but the Israelis thought that he was? The Israeli programme of assassination of scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear programme is a definite fact. It makes as much sense as anything else at the moment, as a possibility.

I am not saying that is what happened. But the directions in which the mainstream media is being so strenuously pointed by official sources, like the massacre of an entire family over an inheritance, are certainly no more inherently probable. Certainly as we are now told all the shots were from one gun, for the assassin to get each victim in the head with none of them being able to escape, indicates real proficiency with the weapon and a very high level of training.

    @anyone @dopey

I am trying to put together a map of the significant places, but it’s all messed up as to
    1) where RAF got “over taken” by Mollier
    2) where Phillippe D met RAF

anyone who can contribute to these whereabouts I’ll appreciate. map here:

    https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=202608941220576988842.0004c9aedaed3a74224e3

please indicate by co-ords if possible. thanks.

In the meanwhile I am trying to find anything on Suhaila Al-Allaf, since she is my main interest for the moment. So far nothing other than what have been already posted here. I’ll keep you posted anyway.

    @ jen

I think rafman met Phillipe very near to the spot where that carpark road meets the forestiere road ie just off the forestiere road where the carpark road starts.

Rafman said when he saw Phillipe’s car travelling towards him it was about 300/400 yards away, which would tie in with Phillipe being closer to the forestiere road when Rafman saw him

This is disturbing. I mean, the previous comments.

How on earth nobody can relate a picture of boobs with an assasination of a family.

On the other side, the “Sam Bacile´s” theory could make a point regarding seeding chaos in the middle East. Well… No.

This story of the “tueri” is nonsense and a bunch of lies from the beginning. No one of us will never know, I guess.

    Notice the TIMING 🙂

    FRIDAY:)

By MONDAY ALL THE WEEKEND CRAP IS IN FRONT OF THE FRIDAY EVENING WEASEL WORDS! 😉

I.e. ZAINEB SAYS RAF man WAS THE BAD GUY! 😉

See how it works people? 😉

100 million years ago I worked as an executive at a publicly held tech firm. We knew that in order to bury bad news (ie a poor quarter) we would send the release out at 4 pm on Friday. By the time Monday rolled around there would be two to three more days of news covering ours.   Now more companies have become much more ingenious ways at burying their bad news – rather than addressing it properly. (For more on that, read my post on  “Crisis Communications in a 2.0 World“)
Wondering how they do it? Here are just a few methods I’ve seen. Comment with more examples, please!
    1) Flood the Internet with alternative messaging. Piling on the social media releases, blogs and Twitter posts can help bury a negative opinion or story quickly by using SEO. Studies show about 60% of Internet users click on a result in the first page. Keeping that page inundated with positive information – particularly if it appears to come from sources that are not your own – can easily bury negative opinions. I agree with the Online Marketing Blog, though, that using this to address a real crisis is not a long-term fix.
    2) Bury it on a holiday. At the end of 2009, a story came out about Goldman Sachs selling mortgaged-based CDO’s to clients and at the same time  selling the securities short themselves. Goldman Sachs supposedly made it quite hard for reporters to reach executives for comment and further blocked the story so that it came out Christmas Eve in the New York Times. Thereafter it’s received little press.
    3) Make it impossible to fact-check the article. Although bloggers can write pretty much whatever they want, traditional media still needs to check facts in order to run with a story. Keeping CBS or as in Goldman Sachs “allegedly” keeping the New York Times from verifying aspects of a story can bury it too.
    4) Divert the issue.  Although most of the messaging surrounding the Toyota recall focuses on sticky floor mats, the real problem may be the pedal or as Steve Wozniak asserts, it could be a computer glitch. (If you haven’t heard, the Woz ‘s Prius gets stuck at 97mph while in cruise control) Although Toyota states there “may” be a problem with the pedal in its latest update, much of what we’ve seen in our media is concerning the floor mats. The Woz asserts its a software problem, not a pedal or mat issue. Since the main issue is sudden acceleration – something we haven’t seen in any of Toyota’s messaging – this is probably a good example of a diversion tactic.
    5) Lie. It almost worked for Martha and it definitely worked for OJ.
Bottom line is that the organizations with true investigative journalists are dwindling. TV and print media no longer has the budget to spend months on uncovering stories ala Watergate. Companies have learned the game and crisis communications firms have become much more adept at the spin.  And that could be a very bad thing for us.

I find it interesting, and somewhat amusing, that posters who (at least from their pseudonyms) seem entirely new, and I’m sure very welcome, to this excellent blog have a rather low threshold for insinuating that longstanding posters, if we disagree on this or that point, are ‘shills’ or are deploying ‘spook’ techniques to deflect readers (one hopes that some readers remain) from their penetrating, Sherlock Holmes-like deductions.

Let’s see what emerges from/about this case. It’s a little disappointing (terribly so, for the family, one imagines) that the cops allegedly seem to be saying in public that it might take a decade find the killers. Gosh, one would have thought that it’s a little early to say that. One wonders why they might be saying such a thing. I see that one journalist seems to be suggesting it might be the Serbian mafia. Well, yes, either a state or organised crime, or a state acting through organised crime. But which? And it seems the girls, somewhat conveniently for the perpetrators, will have seen/remembered nothing.

Gareth Williams, Jonathan Moyle, Stpehen Milligan, Gerald Butler, David Kelly, all those Marconi scientists and microbiologists… no killers found.

You just can’t make this up if you know what I mean.

  • Bajer

Haydar Thaher (ruled out as suspect as he was in a British Hospital on the day of the killings.

“The son of the eldest victim of last week’s French Alps shootings could not have been the killer as he was in a British hospital that day, a source close to the probe said on Friday.
Swedish national Suhaila Al-Allaf — who was shot dead last week together with her daughter Iqbal and son-in-law Saad al-Hilli — had suffered years of violence from her son, legal documents from Sweden have revealed.
But Haydar Thaher, 46, was ruled out as the shooter as he “was hospitalised in Britain when the killings took place,” the source said.
The September 6 attack, near Annecy on the edge of the Alps, also claimed the life of a passing French cyclist, Sylvain Mollier. The couple’s two young girls survived, one by hiding under the skirts of her mother and grandmother.”

By saying the case may take up to 10 years to solve is really saying ‘move on now’. It really is that simple.

[Mod/Jon: trimmed debate about ‘what game posters are playing here’ – stay on topic please]

Re Raf man interview. Everyone has been talking about blinks and NLP. I can assure you of a more simple method to analyse for lying. It’s analysing breathing patterns. Just lie you yourself and you will experience the effect. I have watched that interview over 25 times and made a mark at each point there was inconsistency in his breathing. I then compared my points mapped with the bits people have pointed out as being suss. The degree of consistency is remarkable. No doubt, this guy is 100% staged.

  • Pink panther

@ Dopey…when dead there is no way your foot would have pressure to press peddle. It would flop. If the peddle was genuinely pressed then I would question what was in the footwell of the driver side.

  • Bajer

It was either idling in reverse, or more likely, Al-Hilli’s foot was on the accelerator.

Reports from France suggest that this case may be solved sooner rather than later. It would appear that the prosecutor’s are focusing on al-Hilli’s brother (who has gone missing). Despite his protestations that there was no family feud – it would seem that there was indeed a very serious family feud between the two brothers. I found it a bit strange that he visited the police station to enquire about his brother, when he heard about the shootings. Almost as if he was giving himself an alibi.

  • Jen

    @pink panther re breathing pattern

breathing pattern changes for a lot of reasons, for instance if you get nervous. there are no such thing as being able to tell if someone is lying by their breathing, at least if you do not know them very well.

  • Pink panther

@ bajer, if his brother was behind it he has absolutely nothing to gain from it. I doubt it was genuinely him, although he’d make a good scapegoat.

@ bajer, a dead person has no foot pressure to press a peddle. Like i said, I would suspect the presence of a foreign body in the footwell. I’m sure Anders will corroborate..

Re Al Hilli and his brother…

There was obviously bad feeling at the start of the year for whatever reason. The brother was removed from the company and, previously living at the Al Hilli home too, he moved out and into a flat. I wonder why he was living with them in the first place, and how long for.

Then it was reported that the home was actually in joint names – Al Hilli and the brother’s….and reports of a dispute over the will. It sounds like the brother may have got the sh!tty end of the stick inheritance wise.

But, if the brother was involved, he’d want all of the Al Hilli’s taken out surely? Yet the kids were saved. So, even if it was him and he even got away with it, he’s achieved naff all hasnt he? If getting his hands on Al Hilli’s spondoola was the reason.
