    I have to tell you, I have NO confidence whatsoever in the SNP. I have watched the SNP over the years, they have gone from a left of centre party to a very right wing party, in truth there is very little difference between the SNP and New Labour, what people perceive to be a difference is in truth purely cosmetic, all in the SNPs hopes of Scotland gaining independence, if Scotland ever does they will use Scotland as the Tories/NewLab/LibDems do, and that is gain enriching for themselves at the expense of the people of Scotland.

    Sadly, given time, my words to you above will be proven to have been the truth.

    Certainly the correlation although difficult and cumbersome, to prove, but will ultimately prove to be the case.

    Well, China and the Warsaw Pact countries had relatively flat income distribution until economic change came in the early 1990s, and yet their deep states were very powerful indeed. They remain very powerful in China and Russia. Less so, in Eastern Europe, and progressively less as one moves further west.

    Communists were the menace that capitalist would not allow to exist, as corroborated by commissioning of the services of such a luminaries as Curtis LeMay (the butcher of the Japanese) running his B52s armed with nuclear and thermonuclear warheads around the clock, and only a few hours away from bombing some Russian city to kingdom come. Fact that LeMay is on record advocating “pre-emptive nuclear war” on Russia ie first strike did not leave much sleep for the communists who were all too busy trying to survive.

    “Domino effect” Theory to this date is the main stay of the military aggression on the part of the grossly unequal income distribution systems, that find any leaning towards equality and flat lining of the income distribution levels a threat that ought to be eliminated.

    Has anyone else come across “Population Matters”? They’re backed by David Attenborough and others. And I don’t mean this is what he said earlier in his life. This is what he said in a published paper, in which his PM role was specifically stated. It’s obviously the real position of those who control the organisation, and for those who have got any sense whatsoever, it’s bloody scary.

    Incidentally, PM are mentioned in the latest Dan Brown novel, Inferno, which is favourable towards a certain kind of biowar terrorism. (Not a joke!)

    Without harking on this particular case as there is pretty voluminous evidence of the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan taking a stance against education in general and more specifically against the education of girls and women. Perhaps what is more interesting is why those in the West who supposedly espouse liberal and progressive values on their own turf suddenly become incapable of doing the same in the Middle East – where it doesn’t fit in with their view that the Western powers are the source of all evil.

    What we see is the anti imperialist “left” scrabbling around to see which side of a particular dispute they think best favours the one defining perspective they have in their political views. On this blog we have had the comedy value of Mary switching from a position where she saw the Muslim Brotherhood as a creature of “Shillary” Clinton to where they now hold the baton for the anti USUKIS cause. What these people often fail to realise within all Middle Eastern societies that in addition to the authoritarian and religous strands which they tend to see as the only alternatives (just look at Craig’s recent pronoucements on Turkey, Egypt and Syria if you need further evidence) – there is often an increasing current of those with an educated, liberal and secular perspective (and by secular I do not need that they are necessarily without religous belief – just that they believe that it is not the state’s role to promote a particular religion or a sect of a religion, and indeed that such an approach is the best protector of religous freedom.

    It is to this liberal and secular perspective which needs to be supported and listened to in the Middle East (and I would include those in Israel which come from that viewpoint) as to what should be the next steps forward – rather than falling back on which ever group of religous fundamentalists or authoritarian butchers is seen as being most opposed to the US.

    We are of course now seeing a similar approach with regard to Russia – which because it offers succour to the cult of St Julian is now beiong elevated to defender of the faith status – conveniently forgetting how the KGB under its former operative Putin has resumed much of its old ways and invented a few new ones – like prosecuting the dead and stitching up bloggers such as Alexei Navalny.

    This is not to say that we don’t have religous fundamentalists and authoritarians in the West for those of us who consider ourselves liberal secularists to deal with – but let us not fall into the nihilist trap of thinking that we have even less hard won democratic tools to deal with them than our colleagues in the Middle East.
