What we are seeing in Egypt is counter-revolution pure and simple, military hardliners who are going to be friendly with Israel and the US, and are committing gross human rights abuse.
Western backed counter-revolution is going to be sweeping back across the Middle East; do not be distracted by the words of the West, watch the deeds. It will of course be in the name of secularism. There is an important correlation between what is happening in Turkey and Egypt. I made myself unpopular when I pointed out what the media did not tell you, that behind the tiny minority of doe-eyed greens in the vanguard of the Istanbul movement, stood the massed phalanxes of kemalist nationalism, a very ugly beast. “Secularism” was the cry there too.

Under pressure from Russia to reduce number of 5 million migrant seasonal workers from Uzbekistan Uzbek government started crackdown on Uzbek migrant workers. Uzbek local officials have started to collect information on those who are working abroad (primarily in Russia and Kazakhstan) and it is believed that families of these men (as it is usually men who go to work abroad) are being interrogated.
This all was preceded by the Karimov’s interview to the local media where he called Uzbek migrant workers “lazybones who are going abroad to earn easy money and do not bother to find a job in Uzbekistan”.

To add here it is believe that around 5 million migrant workers contribute over 10 billion USD to the economy of Uzbekistan providing back marker in Uzbekistan with hard currency that is then exchanges to imported goods.

Governments have a responsility to their own people, including their use of resources. For the UK, joining the US in its invasions was too expensive IMO. Israel couldn’t afford anything beyond limited special operations (like knocking out nuclear facilities in unfriendly countries in the region).
In principle, as Henry Kissinger said, “I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist because of the irresponsibility of its own people.” Substitute “Islamist” and the same applies.
However I would prefer Communist or Islamist governments to be thrown out by their own people, which happily happened here.

Basically, whenever a muslim party comes to power, not as a result of free elections,(Algiers and now Egypt as example) there will be enough people to sweep them away from power under the pretense of fight against economic problems, political islam, or islamists, etc.
The rule that is effective in western countries can not be applied in muslim countries because there is a muslim party in power, i.e. muslims are ruling. Period.
