The Respectability of Torture

St Mary’s University College, Thurs 1st August, 7.30pm

Craig Murray, former British ambassador to Uzbekistan, was a whistleblower who was removed from his ambassadorial post by Tony Blair for exposing the Tashkent regime‟s use of rape and systematic torture, including the boiling to death of political opponents. He has also spoken out against Central Asia‟s appalling dictatorships, regimes which are allies of the West, involved in torture and rendition, and was accused of threatening MI6‟s relationship with the CIA. Now a human rights activist, author and broadcaster, he outlines the dynamics of torture and the hypocrisy of incriminated Western governments.

My first public appearance for a while will be in Belfast on 1 August where I shall be giving a talk.  Long term readers of this blog will recall that, while my focus is largely on international affairs, the domestic political achievements I most hope to see are a united Ireland and an independent Scotland.

Were you to deconstruct Villager’s output here to the extent that you do Mary’s then you’d see that Mary is by far the more useful contributer.

Villager pops up when the crimes of the Israelis are mentioned, and then only to attack those mentioning them. Alternatively, Villager pops up to support habby when she’s running out of tricks.

Villager posts nothing off substance on any issue.

    Getting the idea yet?

Attacking the victims of these trolls is therefore not really helpful.

It amounts to support for them, you see.

    Think about it.

K has posted a poetic version of the dialectic above, to help you on your way.

  • Dreoilin

“Attacking the victims of these trolls is therefore not really helpful.
It amounts to support for them, you see.”

    Herbie,
That doesn’t follow at all IMO. There is no obligation on anyone to support somebody else just because they’ve been criticised by ‘trolls’. Or to lay off saying what they themselves find irritating about them.
There is no such rule here.
Whether Mary is or is not “the more useful contributer” is a matter of opinion.

I hope Jemand has not disappeared. I didn’t always agree with him, but his contributions were always intelligent. More intelligent than Havakook any day.

  • Komodo

David Cameron’s doppelganger was presumably reponsible for his opinion, stated in Turkey in 2010, that

“The situation in Gaza has to change. Humanitarian goods and people must flow in both directions….

…Gaza cannot and must not be allowed to remain a prison camp.”

(And he added: “The Israeli attack on the Gaza flotilla was completely unacceptable.

“And I have told PM Netanyahu we will expect the Israeli inquiry to be swift, transparent and rigorous.” -parenthesis and pmsl mine -K)

Better remind Cameron that there’s an even bigger Hispanic vote in the US than the Jewish one. Talk is cheap. Action….now there’s a thing.

Oh my the ziofuckwit keyboard offence brigade are pretty active as ever, filing their cock and bull copy and paste as “rational” discourse. Needless to point out that zionistan being the “only democracy” in the mid east, continent of Asia (which this part is of it is in Europe), the “only democracy” on the planet, the “only democracy” in the solar system, The “only…………. in the universe, past present and in the future!!!!

Needless to point out that all the supporters of such an “only democracy” take money to fill up the internet with cutter nonsense and absolute bilge to convince the world of the “veracity” of such an innocuous claim!!!

Meanwhile back in Ramallah zioninstani thugs Arrests 8 Minors near Ramallah

Occupation Forces arrested Wednesday, eight Palestinian children in Abu Dis village near Ramallah, and accused them of throwing stones at Israeli vehicles and soldiers.

Now that world is going to hell in a basket, in for a penny in for a pound. Agent Cameron has ordered his Aircraft Carrier and ships into Gibraltar, in a dick swinging exercises to show those Daigos who is the boss!

Although it would be a curious situation, if it came to blows, which side Germany, and EU will take?

However in a Daigos united episode Argentinians and Spaniards may take their case to UN. All is unravelling within and from without the borders of her Madge. Best to start some new story about the immigrants (we have done the female circumcision and divert attention from the world of poopoo that the current bunch of showers have landed us all in.

  • technicolour

Herbie, thanks for the advice. I do not ‘deconstruct’ Mary’s posts/value in general but I do not agree that the presence of a couple of other posters makes anyone else unquestionable. Thought Komodo’s post was rather beautiful, thanx.

  • Dreoilin

“Agent Cameron has ordered his Aircraft Carrier and ships into Gibraltar, in a dick swinging exercises to show those Daigos who is the boss!”

They’ve just been at pains to point out on Sky News that that is not the case. Apparently the ships had been due to go into the Med anyway. Arranged for quite some time.

  • Komodo

Agree, Dreoilin. Though it’s natural to seek support from similar minds as well as to offer it. The atmosphere might be improved by a simple rule, suggested in the full realisation that nothing will come of it: if you agree with someone, no flattery, if you disagree with someone, no flaming. Stick to the issues and never mind the pissing contests.

Practise as you preach, you disgusting lizard, I hear you say….

  • Dreoilin

“if you agree with someone, no flattery, if you disagree with someone, no flaming. Stick to the issues and never mind the pissing contests.”

    Well said, Komodo.

  • technicolour

NB the Spain stuff is heartily ridiculous: of course it is being used to attempt to ramp up some nationalistic fervour, but since it is all about an artificial reef built by the British I think it will fail. Probably not among dedicated Tories, however.

  • Herbie

    Dre

Despite what you say, it’s clear that in the midst of an onslaught by trolls any further attack on the victim of these trolls adds support to those trolls. It’s not about rules. It’s simply common sense.

It’s certainly my opinion that Mary is a more useful contributor than Villager.

    That’s obvious.

I’d be really interested to hear though why anyone would consider Villager the more useful contributor.

  • Passerby

    Technicolour said;

So, in order to attack Villager, having a French address becomes suspicious and we pour teenage style scorn on the life work of a 98 year old woman?

what the hell a 98 years old woman lending her name to a dubious outfit for? This somehow does not add up to the “teenage” angst and manifestations of “anger”.

Moan, groan, complain, snipe, somehow need no deconstruction. then there is the oh so condescending cock and bull yarns cut and pasted, which apparently add some “value” to the “debates”. Mary has put a lot of noses out in this joint. Seldom any thread goes without the usual suspects taking a shot at Mary.

  • Komodo

LOL @ Technicolour. But not too loud.

Herbie – there is much to be said, and is said, on both sides. But are you here to pass judgement on other commentators, or to comment on the issues? The other faction – same question.

  • Passerby

They’ve just been at pains to point out on Sky News that that is not the case.

Yeah sure, I believe them, of course Gibraltar is not in the Med at all, at al. These days Comical Ali is running the desk in Sky news desk is he? Months in advance, who wrote that line for sky News?

  • Herbie

“if you agree with someone, no flattery, if you disagree with someone, no flaming. Stick to the issues and never mind the pissing contests.”

    Yes. Well said, Komodo.

But when unprovoked, and it has taken quite a lot to provoke her, Mary does precisely that, whereas Villager’s posts are little more than personal attacks.

  • Dreoilin

“Yeah sure, I believe them, of course Gibraltar is not in the Med at all, at al.”

What’s “et al” got to do with it? You can’t get into the Med without going through the Strait of Gibraltar, we all know that.

“These days Comical Ali is running the desk in Sky news desk is he? Months in advance, who wrote that line for sky News?”

I never mentioned ‘months’. Not sure they did either. But Tim Marshall sounded like he was making up for some impression they had given earlier. They made a point of saying that the ship movement had not been arranged because of the current dispute. It had been arranged earlier.

That’s your own comment you’ve linked to, not one of mine.

Just go away and stop trying so hard to be smart.

“there is much to be said, and is said, on both sides. But are you here to pass judgement on other commentators, or to comment on the issues?”

I do comment on the issues. The problem is that there are those here, Villager for example, who spend all there time commenting on other posters without offering anything by way of substantive debate, and that tends to distract from any substantive debate others may be having.

In short, that insubstantial contribution by way of ad hominem actually has a substantive affect, but not in a good way.

  • Dreoilin

What’s “et al” got to do with it? — me

Mea culpa. I misread “at al” as “et al”.

    Yup.

That just about sums it up.

Anyway. I await Villager’s first substantive post with much interest.

These menopausal women, I have come across a lot more friendlier pit bull terriers. Poor chap who lives with this dragon, he should stipulate; Docs for hormone replacement therapy or else.

Sky news is trying to hood wink the European public hence the cock and bull yarns broadcast around the clock re the Gibraltar confrontation, for the fear of the backlash of the European viewers/public opinions. However, the sky news writ then becomes a holy scripture that none can dispute!

  • Passerby

I await Villager’s first substantive post with much interest.

While awaiting for such an auspicious alignment of the Moon, Sun, the Jupiter, and a substantive post from the aforementioned entity, best to use your time wisely. Why don’t you read all the volumes of the War and Peace? (as a starting point, then there are the other projects you have always wanted to complete)

That should guarantee you about 100 pages of feminism, Passerby….I mean, asking for it or asking for it?

This dragon isn’t living with ‘this dragon’, but I’m sure it would be fun (dodging the crockery); bright feisty dragons are thin on the ground….
