The Tony Blair House Journal (editor Alan Rusbridger) reports on Kanye West’s disgusting private performance for the Kazakh dictator and his family, and takes a sideswipe at David Cameron for visiting that country.
But peculiarly they fail to mention that Tony Blair receives US $4 million a year as a consultant to the worker murdering Kazakh dictator, and that Alistair Campbell and Jonathon Powell as well as Blair visit to give this support – which has included a behind the scenes campaign to help Nazarbaev win the Nobel Peace Prize, fortunately with no result to date.
“Moscow’s vote on September 8th will be much more than an election for mayor—although that in itself would be pretty important. For the first time in more than a decade, a political alternative is emerging in Russia—despite the media censorship, the administrative pressure, and the vastly superior resources of the ruling regime. Alexei Navalny’s insurgent campaign for Moscow mayor has already been described as Russia’s first modern (US-style) political campaign: he has met face-to-face with voters every day; raised funds through individual, often small, donations; drawn thousands of volunteers willing to contribute their time and effort; and inspired genuine public enthusiasm for a political cause not seen in Russia since at least the early 1990s.”

“So how did the SEA get better in only a few months?
”I don’t think it would be unreasonable to suspect someone more skilled is helping them out,” says Adam Myers, vice president of intelligence for security firm CrowdStrike. In the attacks on the Times, Twitter and communications services such as Tango, a popular video and text messaging application, and Viber, which lets users make free phone calls via the internet, the SEA got access to accounts as well as to other data in the companies’ systems.
”That would indicate that they’ve been improving [their methods] over the past couple months. I would not rule out some outside influence giving them pointers,” Myers says. ”I think the likely candidates would be Iran.”

Pepe Escobar in, “Dogs of war versus the emerging caravan” takes a look at the differing emphases of the players at G20.
Seems they’re divided between a West and allies which is concerned mostly with sustaining its global military dominance, and the rest, Russia, China, BRICs etc who are mostly concerned with exploring economic cooperation.
That’s quite worrying from a Western perspective, since it very strongly suggests that the West sees its economic future solely in terms of its capacity to dominate and control others by military rather than cooperative means, and we know from history that such positioning ultimately leads to the graveyard of empires.

Oh dear. I missed that in the great long e-mail that came through from the DVLA and perhaps I should get along to the opticians. It did not warrant that nasty retort from ‘Villager’ though. Pure hate in his ‘heart’ for me, that is for sure. Wonder which Village he lives in? “Russia states that military action in relation to Syria would amount to aggression if it takes place without an authorising UN Security Council Resolution.”
“I think Russia should explain why Georgia faced the loss of South Ossetia and Abkhazia without any authorising UN Security Council Resolution and in the clear face of Russian military action.”
James,
Russia is as hypocritical as the rest of the bastards in the Security Council. In August 2008 Russia launched air-strikes against Georgian forces in South Ossetia claiming “humanitarian intervention” and “peace enforcement”.
Yes Russia, in my view, committed an act of aggression and as such a crime against international law.
However, an attack by the “West” on Syria would also be an act of aggression and illegal – just as the attack on Iraq in 2003 was.
The Security Council should be scrapped.
It is time for international law to be more clearly defined and enforced by the UN General Assembly and an International Law Court set up to make rulings that are binding on world states.
Politics has to be removed from the international justice system.
Oh Cameron…”contracting out” foreign policy! You gotta love it. You mean, like to G4S or Xe or Securitas?
Go back to Jura, you twat. While you’re there, visit Barnhill, and have a wee think about a man who wrote a book there 60-odd years ago.
Before you go, why don’t tell us more about the samples from Damascus that Porton Down analysed? That was very interesting. Funny how that story has gone rather quiet rather quickly…
You’re right Mark: the moment of truth. I thought Iraq was the mother of all fuck-ups; I think Syria will make Iraq look like Grenada.
The man who started World War 3…that’s quite a legacy.
Ref my earlier post about the drones and the inference that they are flown from Gaza, a friend has noted the words of Craig Hoyle of Flight International as he was introduced in the ‘In Business’ programme on Radio 4.
‘Peter Day: There are also of course fears that terrorists could use these things to deliver bombs to buildings.
Craig Hoyle: Absolutely. We’ve seen several instances over Israel of Hezbollah militants having small UAVs that they’ve taken off from the Gaza Strip or somewhere like that flown across and into Israeli airspace. And they’ve been intercepted and shot down. But you can imagine a scenario where, yes, somebody decides I’m going to use one of these, I’m going to pack it with nerve agents, and I’m going to fly it low and crash it into a populated area. So this is definitely an area where we have seen Israel is very serious about it, but other nations as well know that this potential threat exists.’
Mr Hoyle is not a general commentator as might be assumed from the conversation but has great knowledge especially of Elbit’s involvement in UAV manufacture. He is actually the Defence Editor of Flight Intl and previously worked for Janes. (Linked In).
From his Twitter, we learn that he is attending the Defence exhibition at Excel next week. There is usually a large protest by anti-war campaigners there.

By: Craig Hoyle London 29 Jun 2011
Selex Galileo has been selected to provide Gabbiano-series radars for Israeli manufacturer Elbit Systems’ Hermes 450 and Hermes 900 unmanned air vehicles.
Announcing the development on 27 June, the Finmeccanica company said it will supply Gabbiano T20 radars for the 450kg (992lb) Hermes 450 tactical UAV from late this year, and more powerful T200 systems for integration with the firm’s larger Hermes 900 aircraft.
The sensors will provide operators with long-range surveillance cover over land or sea, with applications including synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and inverse SAR imagery modes.

Elbit’s Hermes 900 will get a Gabbiano T200 radar
“The Gabbiano radar family was chosen by Elbit Systems thanks to its light weight, ease of installation, advanced surveillance performance and growth potential,” Selex Galileo said.
Elbit’s order provides the company’s first unmanned application for the X-band radar, which has previously been selected for use with manned maritime surveillance aircraft and helicopters.
Information released by Selex Galileo lists the Gabbiano T20 sensor as weighing 43kg and the T200 at 62kg.’

‘Peter Day said UAVs are used by military in places like Afghanistan. The website notes add Pakistan to the list. The BBC’s bias prevents it adding Gaza too. 100s of people died there from Israeli UAVs yet that isn’t mentioned. Israel is a known manufacturer, exporter and exponent of UAVs. Not mentioned. UAVs buzz over the OPTs all the time. That’s not mentioned either. This omission is caused by the BBC’s fear of offending Zionists by daring to show Israel as aggressor and not victim. Zionists demand that no matter what war crimes, crimes against humanity or human rights abuses Israel commits, the media must at all times portray it as a victim, actual or potential. So, while we all know Israel kills people with UAVs, the BBC paints a fantasy where Israel becomes the target of a nerve agent attack by Hezbollah “terrorists” using drones.’
PS We should remind Mr Hoyle and the BBC that the airfield in Gaza – fit for jets, was bombed by Israel in 2002.
Ref the arms fair at Excel, Kerry McCarthy asked this question on 2nd September:
Arms Trade: Human Rights
Kerry McCarthy: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made regarding the attendance of foreign delegations from (a) countries of concern and (b) other countries identified by his Department in its annual human rights report at the Defence and Security International Exhibition in London. [167012]
Alistair Burt: The Government undertakes a stringent process of scrutiny and approval before inviting foreign Governments to a major UK defence exhibition like the Defence and Security International Exhibition in London (DSEI). Respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms are mandatory considerations undertaken in the process, and we also consider how invitations will impact on bilateral engagement including on issues like human rights. In addition, we review invitations in cases where the situation in any one country changes significantly prior to an exhibition. Invitations do not imply that Her Majesty’s Government would be prepared to issue export licenses for the equipment that may be displayed, and any subsequent sales are assessed on a case-by-case basis against the Consolidated European Union and National Arms Export Licensing Criteria.

“…In the first years of this century (now the last century) Americans were free and prideful and independent. We were an ambitious people, and any social injustices were being slowly but steadily eliminated. We were a kind and generous people, guardful of our liberties. But, after 1917, the black plague spread over Europe, and we were infected long before 1939, when a new and deliberately plotted war broke out. We were infected in the very halls of Congress, in the very inmost chambers of Washington. The disease was already in our flesh, and its foul breath was already in the mouths of our children, and its cries were ringing in every schoolroom, every college, decades before we were plunged into this series of wars which have lasted over twenty years. We were a diseased nation long before we were slaves. We were impotent before we knew we were impotent.

No denying that Mary; he would be better off laying of the K stuff, detoxing his heart, and considering the words of a real wise Indian, who advocated that “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”.
@Doug
Interesting thoughts. I agree that an International Law Court would be an excellent idea and believe that one day it will exist. The panoply of international justice systems currently in existence point that way. There has been an idea for an international human rights court for a couple of decades now at least. Getting it off the ground has been subject to politicking of course. But it would take the globe forwards in a decent way by building on universally accepted human rights standards.
My own view would be to start with politically acceptable measures as a confidence building process. This could start with an international human rights court concerning application of the most universally accepted violations, possibly those concerning children. The Covention on the Rights of the Child is the most respected and ratified Convention and steps around the thematic issues which more obvious crimes raise (a problem with the ICC which deserves respect but fails to command observation).
The Security Council certainly should be reformed. Scrapping it is not an option in my view as the starting point will bog a new mechanism down. Reform is crucial though because Syria, for example, presents nations with disagreement or lowest common denominator solutions. Neither answer will secure the rights of Syrians in a way which constituents of UN nations (the world population) can find acceptable. We only have to wait a few thousand years for the answer to that problem. In the meantime, that is why I can support the Responsibility to Protect concept along with the notion of humanitarian intervention. How these principles are respected will always be subject to politics until a different work arrangement applies. Whatever legacy the world judges to have been left by Tony Blair, the thread of his 1999 Chicago speech captured the conundrum very well.
Little Big Macky feeding off soundbites. The word is not the thing, if you can get that. Anyway, how do you propose to be that change? (And just in case you were implying, K was not Indian.)
Btw, did you ever respond to Suhayl’s question on whether or not you support clerical fascism? The last time i saw you, you left the board throwing a tantrum at him and Jon.

Do you support the torture of kids ? If you don’t find this an offensive question, sit down on the clueless bench between Suhayl & Jon;
I believe Jon know exactly what I think of his moderating.
So are you going to come clean & explain this incredible animosity you display towards Mary at every opportunity ? Have you been brainwashed by the Hubbu-Clown ?
Kids in America pass the time by sticking a firecracker in a frog’s mouth and letting it go so it hops around until BLAM. When they grow up, then they get an empty suit of a president and do it to him.
Obama’s got the cherry bomb in his mouth and he’s hopping around but pretty soon BLAM.
Little Big Macky, no animosity towards Mary, or anyone for that matter. I could explain further, but first can you answer my question, “Anyway, how do you propose to be that change?”

In an unrelated case recently, involving some serious anti-government nutters in Nevada who plotted to kidnap and murder police and bury them in the desert, they are charged as terrorists on the basis that any person who refuses to recognize the authority of the government is a defacto terrorist.
Oh, just heard, President Obama himself is coming to visit Tuesday next, in my very own living room or kitchen they say, to explain his throughly scrambled, eleven-egg-omelette policy on Syria.
So much cleaning and tidying to do. They didn’t say if Michelle and the girls accompany him. Do I serve broccoli with a healthy dip or is an icy beer appropriate?
Bits of news and commentary:
“President Barack Obama has proven to be a “uniter not a divider” on Syria — but not in the way he would like.”
Sept 02: “Senator John McCain said Monday that the failure of Obama’s request for authorization to strike Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime in response to the use of chemical weapons “would be catastrophic” for the U.S.”
Sept 06: “McCain: “There Would Be An Impeachment” Of Obama If He Put Boots On The Ground In Syria.””
Can it get more confusing? The action-mongerers will say anything to start their desired action.
Kerry stated that since WW2 just two dictators had dared to use chemical weapons. The script was straight from Disney.

The UK media breathlessy reports that Russia is blocking action being taken ‘by the rest of the world/the international community’ vis-a-vis Syria, not true of course, Russia merely insists any action must be done through the UNSC, i.e. the establishd legal framework.
Only 5 of the G20 openly support military action, their combined population makes up less than 17% of the world’s population. The BRICS by comparison, who oppose military action, make up 68%. What is this problem with maths that the media has, how is 17.5% or 5 nations, 2 of whom are not even democratic, considered the ‘international community’.
