Edward Snowden Gets Sam Adams Award 3361

Ray McGovern and the Sam Adams party have presented the Sam Adams award to Edward Snowden.  I am delighted.  This from Ray’s account of the event:

In brief remarks from his visitors, Snowden was reassured — first and foremost — that he need no longer be worried that nothing significant would happen as a result of his decision to risk his future by revealing documentary proof that the U.S. government was playing fast and loose with the Constitutional rights of Americans.

Even amid the government shutdown, Establishment Washington and the normally docile “mainstream media” have not been able to deflect attention from the intrusive eavesdropping that makes a mockery of the Fourth Amendment. Even Congress is showing signs of awaking from its torpor.

In the somnolent Senate, a few hardy souls have gone so far as to express displeasure at having been lied to by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and NSA Director Keith Alexander — Clapper having formally apologized for telling the Senate Intelligence Committee eavesdropping-related things that were, in his words, “clearly erroneous” and Alexander having told now-discredited whoppers about the effectiveness of NSA’s intrusive and unconstitutional methods in combating terrorism.

Coleen Rowley, the first winner of the Sam Adams Award (2002), cited some little-known history to remind Snowden that he is in good company as a whistleblower — and not only because of previous Sam Adams honorees. She noted that in 1773, Benjamin Franklin leaked confidential information by releasing letters written by then-Lt. Governor of Massachusetts Thomas Hutchinson to Thomas Whatley, an assistant to the British Prime Minister.

The letters suggested that it was impossible for the colonists to enjoy the same rights as subjects living in England and that “an abridgement of what are called English liberties” might be necessary. The content of the letters was so damaging to the British government that Benjamin Franklin was dismissed as colonial Postmaster General and had to endure an hour-long censure from British Solicitor General Alexander Wedderburn.

There has been a determined attempt by government to justify the need to intercept everybody’s communications, all the time.  We have, yet again, had MI5 claim there are many thousand violent Islamic terrorists running around the UK, (yet somehow not managing to kill anybody).  The cry of “paedophiles” is raised, as always.  I can imagine them suggesting the entire population be shot dead, and justifying it as making sure they get the paedophiles.  The tabloids would go with that.

There still had not been a single credible claim by the mainstream media that any named individual has died, despite that contingency being trotted out all the time as the reason Snowden and Manning should not have revealed state crimes and abuse of power.  I am hopeful that, with the internet still largely free to the dissemination of information, out next massive whistleblower is only weeks away.

You noticed that too; it was more protect than encourage though; Jon did the same for Sly Suhayel.

Mate you had to be blind, or stupid not to notice Jon and his “adjudication” (shenanigans), the way he used to delete my posts (which I remember distinctly) and leave the fucking tripe villageC techniC had smeared around the place. The same techniques as before, it (v/tC) has just come back as “funny” and as ever the sharpest tool in the box has gone on record; which are two of the ‘problems’ here, I think (to which I’m aware I contribute)

Fucking pitiful, but never mind, that is they way these ziofuckwits operate. I did not pull Jon on these isuues because of; let him have enough rope!

However Suhayl IMHO is a different kettle of fish, he has his own site, and used to come here to boost his site, as well as his credentials sucking up to the right “tribe”. I had a big bust up with him, and as ever Jon deleted my posts and left the ozzie nunces posts abusing me, needless to point out, I am a sensitive soul and have been scarred for life now, and shit. In short Suhayl is an opportunist leaning whichever the winds blow, in fact I did tell this to him.

In fact I think it was you who mentioned that Jon is trying to encourage me to leave by his obviously slanted and biased “adjudication”. To which villageC techniC had a come back; “Jon is doing a free job, and all that shit, and doing his best and so forth”.

Pity Crptonym never could discern beyond the obvious. I used to read his posts and enjoyed them.

    Tech;

I was watching Oliver Stone talk about his new movie and one of the facts he uncovered was that Hiroshima and Nagasaki weren’t about saving the estimated 250k American troops they assumed would die if they were to invade. Japan’s economy was destroyed. Food and fuel in scarce supply. They would have surrendered in as little as 3 weeks after the attacks. Incendiary bombs and phosphorus had decimated them, already. Remember all those 60’s monster movies? They were all mutants from the radiation. Truly, this country has borne the nuclear nightmare in many ways.

Macky, here is the latest habbakooky hasbawanker anon: 1, 2, 3, the return of the anon

Also do you recollect dreo joining in the bespectacled anons after Mary (getting bullied incessantly) had pointed out the creepy and thuggish looks of the avatar, by changing her avatar to a bespectacled anon?

Obviously a sure sign of probity and spotless liberal credentials, because of her long service career on this blog.

    ben:

The bomb was, in fact, mainly designed to subdue an encroaching Soviet Union. “It would be a mistake to suppose that the fate of Japan was settled by the atomic bomb” Churchill wrote, in Volume VI of his History of the Second World War. “Her defeat was certain before the first bomb fell and was brought about by overwhelming maritime power”

  • Macky

Technicolour: “You are kidding. You’re really going with that? You. Macky. Can you just confirm this, please?”

Yes, you & Suhayl both shared a bit of Guardian Angel Jon’s magic shielding power.

@Fedup, re Suhayl, think of him as a certain Angry Aussie, but intellectually better equipped to mask his agenda.

  • technicolour

    Right. Got it.

“Yes, you & Suhayl both shared a bit of Guardian Angel Jon’s magic shielding power”

That sounds like pillows at ten paces there.

    YEEEEEEEHHHHHHHAAAAAAA

What is there to explain, do you think you were so fucking stealthy about the way you got away with crapping this blog to fuck? You are still at it, when there is no one here to give a flying fuck about your gripes, the tag team get together to have a benefit for the grand dame dreo.

Gotta end this monday with the crack of the day, in response to the Nacklown buffoon’s ‘comment’ @01.42am:

    “Ben

Nice takedown Mary. Where did you go this evening, a screening of the Avengers? You sound like Emma Peel.”

Of course, Ben didn’t know at the time this was Macklown impersonating her. That confession came a full 30 minutes after the dolt signed off as Mary and then squirmed that it was an ‘infection’. Hilarious — one of the funniest acts I’ve seen or will see on this blog.

  • Macky

    Technicolour: “explain please, or withdraw”

What’s to explain or withdraw ? I speak from the experience of having Jon abruptly interjecting in both your flavours whilst engaging with you both on separate occasions; it’s understandable & normal, that Jon is just all of us, partial to his own subjective influences; he was just fooling himself that he was impartial.

  • Villager

Fred, come on, i’m sure you have some funny jokes up your sleeve. I know about the one about the nun on the London Bus — is that the one you were referring to TC?
    _________

Btw, TC i do recommend that you follow the advice of depriving these ‘de Baiters’ of there oxygen and watch their tent collapse. You’re way above their level.

I think the best way of dealing with population ESLO, is massive investment in developing a sophisticated form of reliably switchable fertility control for both males and females, but more importantly for females, that satisfies several important medical, economic and social criteria.

Yeh it’s called estrogen and condom… unless of course ‘Jemand’ is suggesting perhaps radio controlled sperm. The transmitters could be controlled by a government body like the Department of Social Security run by IDS clones.

The silicone-polymer valve can be flipped between open and closed positions with a pulse of radio waves. A set of conducting “fingers” on the valve act as antennae and convert the signal’s energy into sound waves that travel through the polymer and create stresses inside the device.

This is the penultimate step to the total tyranny. The taps implanted at differing parts and shut down to bring about unconsciousness or death at the will of a pencildick bureaucrat. This is 1984 on fucking massive doses of steroids.

  • technicolour

Yeah, course, someone else’s fault. Attack Jon, too, why not (dick move, but why not?) Goodnight.

1.7m gallons of water to run through here every day to keep the computers from overheating while the NSA is spying on the public

Data centers are notorious for using a lot of power and other resources, but residents of Bluffdale, Utah are a little annoyed by the volume of water that will soon begin flowing to a new NSA facility. When it is completed in September, cooling the massive collection of servers will require as much as 1.7 million gallons of water each day. That’s no drop in the bucket when you’re in the middle of a desert like Bluffdale happens to be.

Fucking hell the constructs of oppression and tyranny are depleting the resources of the planet, whilst every fuckwit scientist is too busy measuring how many meters cube a day I fart and how many times a month I eat meat? Fucking depressing.

Racism is attractive and hate is sexy. It’s easier to get everyone’s attention with cheap commodities, so why even bother with virtues?

    http://dissidentvoice.org/2013/10/israels-elections-bring-racism-to-the-fore/

“According to analysts and residents, Israel’s local elections have brought a tide of ugly racism to the fore, especially in a handful of communities known as “mixed cities”, where Jewish and Palestinian citizens live in close proximity.

Jewish parties, including local branches of the ruling Likud party, have adopted openly racist language and fear-mongering suggesting an imminent Muslim takeover of Jewish communities in a bid to win votes.

“Israeli society has become more and more racist, and the candidates are simply reflecting this racism back to voters knowing that it will win them lots of support,” said Mohammed Zeidan, director of the Human Rights Association in Nazareth.”

When trolls/shills/tag team cyber-boot boys proclaim a liking for Orwell then that’s quite possibly the best definition of irony i’ve ever encountered.

They just really dont get it do they?

  • Ben

“a liking for Orwell then that’s quite possibly the best definition of irony i’ve ever encountered.”

Jives; Same with Rock n Roll and HST. They imagine themselves ‘cool’ and hip and glom onto thematic overtures which are the exact opposite of their social/political practice.

    Delusion is a poor instructor.

    @ Ben

“They would have surrendered in as little as 3 weeks after the attacks.”

I suppose you mean that Japan would have surrendered 3 weeks after the date of the atomic bombs attacks even if the latter had not taken place. Can you provide reliable sources for that opinion?

    @ Technicolour

“The bomb was, in fact, mainly designed to subdue an encroaching Soviet Union. “It would be a mistake to suppose that the fate of Japan was settled by the atomic bomb” Churchill wrote, in Volume VI of his History of the Second World War. “Her defeat was certain before the first bomb fell and was brought about by overwhelming maritime power””

    Two comments :

1/. re 1st sentence : can you just remind us when the Manhattan project was started and tell us something (preferably with references) about the state of US – USSR relations at that moment?

2/. re last sentence : that is correct, but Churchill does not address the question of how much longer it would have taken for that overwhelming maritime (and land) power to have brought about the defeat and surrender of Japan.

Can’t you turn that same blind eye that you use for your intellectual village soul-mate on me ?

    Mark Golding,

You mean this piece of shit?

“In 2010 Kawczynski published a book called Seeking Gaddafi about Muammar Gaddafi of Libya. Political blogger Paul Staines (aka, the blogger Guido Fawkes) has accused Kawczynski of using 5,000-word essay submissions by interviewees for an unpaid internship as the basis of his book commenting on the inconsistency of style throughout the book and similarity of chapter titles to the submitted essays.[15] When Kawczynski later advertised another unpaid internship[16] for his new book entitled Saudi Arabia, Staines claimed that this was “nothing but a con.”[15]” -From Wiki

  • Ben

BTW; Your earlier concern about the topic of discussion leaves a question which has not been answered.

Have you congratulated, or denigrated the award to Snowden?
