Edward Snowden Gets Sam Adams Award 3361

Ray McGovern and the Sam Adams party have presented the Sam Adams award to Edward Snowden.  I am delighted.  This from Ray’s account of the event:

In brief remarks from his visitors, Snowden was reassured — first and foremost — that he need no longer be worried that nothing significant would happen as a result of his decision to risk his future by revealing documentary proof that the U.S. government was playing fast and loose with the Constitutional rights of Americans.

Even amid the government shutdown, Establishment Washington and the normally docile “mainstream media” have not been able to deflect attention from the intrusive eavesdropping that makes a mockery of the Fourth Amendment. Even Congress is showing signs of awaking from its torpor.

In the somnolent Senate, a few hardy souls have gone so far as to express displeasure at having been lied to by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and NSA Director Keith Alexander — Clapper having formally apologized for telling the Senate Intelligence Committee eavesdropping-related things that were, in his words, “clearly erroneous” and Alexander having told now-discredited whoppers about the effectiveness of NSA’s intrusive and unconstitutional methods in combating terrorism.

Coleen Rowley, the first winner of the Sam Adams Award (2002), cited some little-known history to remind Snowden that he is in good company as a whistleblower — and not only because of previous Sam Adams honorees. She noted that in 1773, Benjamin Franklin leaked confidential information by releasing letters written by then-Lt. Governor of Massachusetts Thomas Hutchinson to Thomas Whatley, an assistant to the British Prime Minister.

The letters suggested that it was impossible for the colonists to enjoy the same rights as subjects living in England and that “an abridgement of what are called English liberties” might be necessary. The content of the letters was so damaging to the British government that Benjamin Franklin was dismissed as colonial Postmaster General and had to endure an hour-long censure from British Solicitor General Alexander Wedderburn.

There has been a determined attempt by government to justify the need to intercept everybody’s communications, all the time.  We have, yet again, had MI5 claim there are many thousand violent Islamic terrorists running around the UK, (yet somehow not managing to kill anybody).  The cry of “paedophiles” is raised, as always.  I can imagine them suggesting the entire population be shot dead, and justifying it as making sure they get the paedophiles.  The tabloids would go with that.

There still had not been a single credible claim by the mainstream media that any named individual has died, despite that contingency being trotted out all the time as the reason Snowden and Manning should not have revealed state crimes and abuse of power.  I am hopeful that, with the internet still largely free to the dissemination of information, out next massive whistleblower is only weeks away.

” TO INFORM PEOPLE IS HARD SLUGGING. Everything is lined up against the public being informed, or the policymakers for that matter. News is contaminated by its service to special interests and hidden agendas. Many scientists or their employers are dependent on federal money.

Even psychologists and anthropologists were roped into the government’s torture and occupation programs. Economists tell lies for corporations and Wall Street. Plant and soil scientists tell lies for agribusiness and Monsanto. Truth tellers are slandered and persecuted. However, persistence can eventually win out. In the long-run, truth sometimes emerges. But not always. And not always in time.

I have been trying to inform the American people, economists, and policymakers for more than a decade about the adverse impacts of jobs offshoring on the US economy.

The word has eventually gotten out. Last week I was contacted by 8th grade students competing for their school in CSPAN’s StudentCam Documentary Contest. They want to interview me on the subject of jobs offshoring for their documentary film.

America is a strange place. Here are eighth graders far ahead of the economics profession, the President, the Congress, the Federal Reserve, Wall Street, and the financial press in their understanding of one of the fundamental problems of the US economy………

” IS IT TOO LATE? I know much, but not all. So this is not the final word. I think it might be too late. When skilled jobs are sent abroad, the skills disappear at home. So do the supply chains and the businesses associated with the skills. Things close down, and abilities are lost. Why take a major in collage for a job that is offshored. A culture disappears.

But we can start them back up, right? Perhaps not. When a First World country exports its technology and know-how abroad to a Third World country in order to benefit from lower cost labor, how does the First World country get the work back? Living standards and the cost of living in Third World countries are much lower than in First World countries. The populations of First World countries cannot pay their mortgages, car payments, student loans, medical care, and grocery bills with the wages of Third World countries.

When First World wages drop, mortgage, car, credit card, and student loan payments do not drop. Americans cannot live on Chinese, Indian, and Indonesian wages. Once the technology and know-how is transferred, the low wage country has the advantage in the absence of tariff protection…..

” THE FEDERAL RESERVE COULD NOT CARE LESS about the US population. The Fed was established for the purpose of protecting and aiding banks. Currently, the Fed, as if America were a Banana Republic which America appears to be becoming, is printing one thousand billion dollars per year in order to support the banks and to finance the federal deficit.

This is bad news for Americans, as it means that their fiat money is being created at a far greater rate than the demand for the dollar. The implication for our future is a drop in the dollar’s value. As there are no jobs, a drop in the dollar’s value means high inflation on top of unemployment and double the misery of the Great Depression.

AS BAD AS THIS IS, IT IS MINOR COMPARED TO the destruction of the planet’s environment. Online information shows that the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem is in crisis after the BP spill and use of Corexit, a dispersant used to hide, not clean up, the spilled oil. http://www.opednews.com/articles/Gulf-ecosystem-in-crisis-a-by-Dahr-Jamail-Corporation-BP_Ecosystems_Gulf-Oil-Spill-Disaster_Gulf-Shrimping-Industry-131020-15.html

THE FUKUSHIMA CATASTROPHE HAS HARDLY BEGUN. Yet already the radioactive water pouring into the Pacific Ocean has made fish dangerous to eat unless a person is willing to accept a higher risk of cancer.

FUKUSHIMA HAS THE POTENTIAL OF MAKING JAPAN UININHABITABLE and of polluting the air, water, and soil of the US with radioactivity. Yet the crisis is seldom mentioned in the US media. In Japan the government just passed a law that could be used to imprison Japanese journalists who report truthfully on the dire situation.

Take the time to familiarize yourself with the online information about Fukushima.. According to the presstitute media, Americans face threats from Iran and Syria and from whistleblowers such as Edward Snowden. The real threats are simply not in the news.

If you search Fukushima, you will find information that the presstitute media hides from you. See for example, http://www.globalresearch.ca/28-signs-that-the-west-coast-is-being-absolutely-fried-with-nuclear-radiation-from-fukushima/5355280

THERE ARE A NUMBER OF OTHER THREATS TO THE ENVIRONMENT on which our lives depend. One is the effort to extract more productivity from the soil by use of GMOs. Monsanto has altered the genes of several crops so that the crops can be sprayed with RoundUp to eliminate weeds. The results have been to deplete the soil of nutrients, to destroy the micro-biology of the soil so that new plant diseases and funguses are activated, and to produce superweeds that require heavier doses of the glyphosate in RoundUp. The heavier dose of RoundUp worsens the aforementioned problems. US agricultural soil is losing its potency.

NOW WE COME TO CHEMTRAILS, branded another “conspiracy theory.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemtrail_conspiracy_theory However, the US government’s efforts to geo-engineer weather as a military weapon and as a preventative of global warming appear to be real. The DARPA and HAARP programs are well known and are discussed publicly by scientists. See, for example,

    http://news.sciencemag.org/2009/03/darpa-explore-geoengineering

Search Chemtrails, and you will find much information that is kept from you. See, for example,

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/chemtrails-a-planetary-catastrophe-created-by-geo-engineering/5355299 and http://www.geoengineeringwatch.org

Some describe chemtrails as a plot by the New World Order, the Rothchilds, the Bilderbergers, or the Masons, to wipe out the “useless eaters.” Given the amount of evil that exists in the world, these conspiracy theories might not be as farfetched as they sound.

” However, I do not know that. What does seem to be possibly true is that the scientific experiments to modify and control weather are having adverse real world consequences……..

“The only advice I can give is that when you hear the presstitute media smear a concern or explanation as “conspiracy theory,” have a closer look. The divergence between what is happening and what you are told is so vast that it pays to be suspicious, cynical even, of what “your” government and “your” presstitute media tell you. The chances are high that it is a lie ”

Another example of the terrible abuse of Palestinian children in Israel.

Palestinian Child Could Face A Life-Term

    Tuesday October 29, 2013

A Palestinian child, identified as Mohammad Mahdi Suleiman, 15 years of age, could face a life-term by an Israeli court for “throwing stones at the soldiers, and endangering their lives”.

The child is from Hares village, near the central West Bank district of Salfit. He will be sent to court in the coming few days.

The Israeli Prosecution said it intends to ask for the highest penalty that could reach up to a life in prison, the Wa’ed Society for Detainees has reported.

Wa’ed said that the child was kidnapped on March 15 this year, after Israeli soldiers violently broke into his home and searched it.

He was then sent to a military court and the Israeli prosecutor’s office demanded that the child be sentenced to a life-term for throwing stones at the soldiers, and engendering their lives.

Wa’ed said that this is an unprecedented violation and abuse targeting the child, one of the youngest prisoners in the world, and called on the UNICEF and international human rights groups to intervene, and perform their moral and legal duty to protect the children.

It added that the child is being held under very tough conditions, facing torture and abuse, and that the Israeli interrogators deprive him from drinking water during long hours of interrogations, and that the interrogators even forced him to drink alcohol during interrogation.

The society said that the Israeli violations against the children, especially child prisoners, are ongoing and escalating, while the International Community continues to shed a blind eye.

Brian Fukushima was treated as a kind of Hollywood scenario on Radio 4 today when they spoke to Rupert Wingfield-Hayes their reporter in Japan.

Were the people allowed back to get their things? Yes for very short periods and wearing suits and with dosimeters.
Were the towns ‘ghost towns’? Yes there are still plates on the tables and washing on the line.

At no stage was any serious information given on the radiation being emitted into the ground, the ground water or the sea and its toxic effect for us and the global environment for centuries to come.

We were told however about this, the likely break up of Tepco.

Japan government panel ‘suggests Tepco break-up’
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-24739264

  • Mary

This is the real reason for the break up of course. From the same report.

‘It will recommend “creating a clear and realistic organisation” for operations at Fukushima, the source added.

The proposals come after months of intense criticism of Tepco, which owns the plant and is currently responsible for the clean-up.

The idea is that the part of Tepco responsible for the clean-up would be split off, while the rest of the corporation would be allowed to return to its core business of generating electricity, says the BBC’s Rupert Wingfield-Hayes in Tokyo.

Some will no doubt worry that Tepco is being let off the hook, our correspondent adds.’

Sorry about your experience Clark. Very depressing. The reality is that there are no jobs unless one wants to work at McDonalds or similar. 500 workers are being sacked by Tata but we keep being told of ‘the recovery’.

    More on nuclear

    Getting Real About Nuclear
by Stuart Jeanne Bramhall / October 29th, 2013

One week we learn the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant has contaminated the entire North Pacific with the daily discharge of 300 tons of radioactive water into the ocean. The following week we learn that Britain has approved the first new, “totally safe” nuclear power plant in 35 years, at Hinkley Point in Somerset. The snow job being perpetrated on the unsuspecting British public is that nuclear energy creates electricity without emitting carbon dioxide and that it’s cheaper than renewable energy. Neither is true.

Where Do You Put the Nuclear Waste?

Nuclear energy only looks cheap and carbon neutral if you take plant construction and nuclear waste disposal out of the equation. The US, British, French, Chinese and other governments driving the current nuclear renaissance don’t want you to think about nuclear waste disposal. This is because the technology required to safely neutralize and store spent plutonium that remains radioactive for 10,000 years has yet to be invented. Finland has come the closest, with the launch of a $3 billion excavation of an underground depository at Onkalo. Since the US site at Yucca Mountain was defunded in 2010, most countries have been leaving their spent fuel rods lying around in containment pools. At Fukushima, the spent rods were on the roof of the stricken reactors – before they melted down and spewed immeasurable amounts of radiation into the air and groundwater. In Britain, most nuclear “decommissioning” happens at a former nuclear weapons site called Sellafield. Despite a government allocation of more than £67bn to the facility, the spent rods are still lying around in open pools. No one can figure out what to do with them.

    Someone said,

“I was speaking for myself, not you!, read my post again and don’t read into it what is not there, your a tad bit paranoid to say the least!.”

I am not paranoid. People have been complaining vociferously here about who I respond to and who I don’t. Who I speak to and who I don’t. People have labelled me a “ziofuckwit” and labelled Technicolour a “ziofuckwit” and a “hasbara troll”. It’s gone beyond daft, beyond ridiculous.

Jon wondered (IIRC) about the place falling apart after he resigned. I wonder if he foresaw the depths to which it would descend. There are plenty here who are paranoid, but that doesn’t include me. I don’t see ‘trolls’ in every second comment, or every comment that doesn’t agree 100% with what I think myself.

There is no pleasure (and very little information) to be got from visiting this blog now. I still pop in, out of habit, but that’s about all. Reading here at the moment is like navigating an obstacle course. And a very unpleasant, juvenile one at that.

I sincerely hope that Craig puts down whatever he’s doing and devotes a half-hour, or even an hour, to his blog. You can’t put up a blog and then ignore it, or ignore whatever mayhem is going on in comments. If you put up a blog, it’s your responsibility.

If Craig doesn’t have time to moderate comments, then he needs to appoint another moderator. If he can’t be arsed doing that, he should shut the comment section.

Anyone going into a Jobcentre Doubleplusgood with the expectation of finding a job these days is obviously a terrorist, Clark. Surprised G4S didn’t break your legs and render you to Guantanamo.

Hint, if you really want to see how rubbish the labour market is looking, you are better to sign on first. The woman with the clipboard is a jobsworth who votes Tory – the counter people, though hideously overworked and frustrated, are generally amenable to reason when they get to know you. Which I hope against hope they will not have time to do. Best of luck.

    Mary,

Craig WARNED everyone here about deciding what other people’s motivation was – against deciding who was a troll and who wasn’t. You haven’t a clue who’s a troll or who is not. You’re taking your cues from very dubious sources.
    AND ignoring Craig’s express wishes!

  • Dreoilin

    Mary,

You have to get it into your head that people who disagree with you (or even criticise you) are not necessarily “trolls”.

Anyway, do whatever you like. Take your cue from Macky and Fedup it that’s what suits you.

I have other things to do.

  • Dreoilin

    Here, I rooted this out

    Craig 4 Jul, 2013 – 8:43 am

“Will EVERYBODY please tackle the arguments commenters make, and not refer to their motives for making them – which you cannot know – or that people are paid, or their personality traits, or somebody else.

“What interests me is the arguments people put. I think most of the imputations made on all sides are probably inaccurate, but even if they were accurate they are irrelevant. A man or woman may be a one-eyed former contract killer with a cocaine habit in the pay of the state of Israel, but may still make an argument that is absolutely correct. Please address the argument, not the person. Posts which fail to do this will be deleted when seen.”

    Dreoilin and Mary.

Thanks for highlighting the story of nine year old Nabila travelling all the way to Washington to tell five Congressmen about drone strike that killed her grandmother while she was gardening.

What a contrast with the Malala circus.

And we are expected to feel protected because we have a US president who listens to EVERYBODY and orders some coward with a console to implement a drone attack on the strength of a mobile phone location, thus nipping a fiendish muslim vegetable plot in the bud.

Now we can rest assured in the knowledge that there is one less dangerous muslim who has been prevented from ever growing carrots over here.

    Murrayista formulation:

Child victim condemns Taliban brutality = bad.

Child victim condemns US drone strikes = good.

The underlying reasoning being: West bad, Taliban good (because of resistance to West).

Murrayistas ought to support both Malala AND Nabila, as well as condemn both Taliban brutality AND drone strikes, but they hate the West too much to have anything resembling a balanced view.

In these days of spin and rampant yiddish dershowitzery, Matthew the tax accountant in the Bible has very simple practical guidance to cut through the falsehood “Ye shall know the false prophet by their fruit”.

We have just seen “yes we can” Obomber outed as a devil with his NSA fruit “yes we scan” ! And bibi is not far behind, the devil with his “Iran nuclear this, nuclear that” song this 1992, just let loose a “training” missile to con the US Navy into a deadly firefight with Assad’s yakhonts, after the Ghouta fail. But he has forgotten what happened to INS Dakar 6 months after the Moshe’s USS Liberty attack, the US Navy brass certainly know how to deal with such a devil.

It is clear from the last four or five pages of comments that the lunatics now run this asylum. Sad. No chance for debate, just long winded cut and paste jobs followed by an inevitable accusation of trolling. Pathetic.

    Anon. 10 33am

Just contrast the images you have seen of those two kids.

Isn’t “Circus” the appropriate word for the intensely organised group around her.

How would you explain the different numbers of people, both around the two girls, but also taking the time to listen to each of them?

    How many Congressmen? FIVE FFS!

    Back to Malala,

“One of the world’s biggest public relations firms, Edelman, has a team working on her behalf while politicians, journalists and book publishers are making her into something of a global brand.”

    From, http://www.brecorder.com/top-news/109-world-top-news/139906-global-operation-surrounds-malala.html

Tell me, what would you say were the odds on Nabila having one of the world’s biggest PR companies working on her behalf?

As for “Murrayistas ought to support both Malala AND Nabila”. Well is’nt that just such a cute wee red herring. All big eyed and vulnerable!

What are the odds on you coming up with a nice juicy “Murrayista” link to that one and the other little accusations that are bobbing about beside it?

My tolerance for you is now over, you are plainly a deliberately misleading troll and no more. Plainly the FCO do not have to search all communications systems outside the FCO for communications between Gould and Werritty, they just have to ask Gould for it. He is their employee.

The argument that Gould should not be included in the Cabinet Secretary’s report into the Gould-Werritty affair, because O’Donnell has no line management responsibility for Gould, is plainly nonsense. On those grounds, Werritty should not have been included either.
