I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.

The plane crashed while trying to land at the Grand Bahamas International Airport in Freeport on Sunday night. The passengers were reportedly on their way to the Global Leadership Forum, according to a Tribune 242 report.

Then onward to The Netherlands
Russia is preparing a new package of documents for the Netherlands’ commission investigating the crash of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 flight in eastern Ukraine. The package will be sent in response for the commission’s request, RIA Novosti quoted deputy head of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) Oleg Storchevoy as saying. “Everything that we have available and that could help in investigating the crash, we are ready to hand over – and we are doing this – to the Netherlands,” he said.
PBS NOVA 2014 Why Planes Vanish
The disappearance of Flight MH370 stunned the world. In an era of smart-phones and GPS, how could a 270-ton passenger jet vanish into thin air? It was a rude awakening for all of us, showing just how far we are from the world we imagined we lived in—in which every move is monitored all the time. NOVA tells the inside story of the search for Flight MH370 and meets the key players from all corners of the globe who have spent months searching for the lost plane. In the search for answers, we’ll reveal how today’s planes must fly through vast radar “blind spots,” and investigate new technologies that could allow ground stations and satellites to track planes automatically, without pilot intervention, even in remote areas with no radar coverage. What will it take to guarantee that in the future, nothing will ever be ‘lost’ again?

I live in Central Scotland and work in Equatorial Guinea, but I had heard nothing about these connections to the Algerian crash until I read it here last night.
From what I have read since this aircraft seemed to have been involved in other activities than it’s stated charter.
On the way to Prestwick it flew over and landed at Shannon for some reason.
From Prestwick it seems to have been capable of flying all the way to Ghardeia in Algeria, some 1400nm, yet it had weight problems after taking off from there and landed again at Tamanrasset, just less than 600nm away. The range with Max payload is 1949nm so in theory it could have flown to Malabo from either of the Algerian stops.
The thing that is most intriguing is that it was heading for Bamako Airport in Mali, it makes no sense for any aircraft heading for Malabo to dog-leg that far off route when there are lots of airports directly between Tamanrasset and Malabo. Co-incidentally it is the same distance to Malabo from Bamako as it is from Tamanrasset.
To me it seems that this aircraft was doing a supplementary mission, the fact that it has never been mentioned in the UK media suggests that it may have been pre-meditated.

This is the only mention in the British Press that I could find about the Ukraine Antonov
Flight UKL4061 that crashed on route from Glasgow-Prestwick to Equatorial Guinea.
I expect that as three months has passed, the Algerians will have found The BLACK BOXES
and forwarded to Farnborough, England for de-coding.
Very strange that this has not been reported by the BBC,
it’s hardly as if Scotland or Ukraine or Ukraine are never in the news?
This story of the plane crash of Dag Hammarskjöld in 1961 over Northern Rhodesia
is worth reading, the Americans are being asked to hand over what they know to the United Nations.
“Many countries had an interest in thwarting Hammarskjöld’s attempts to reunite Congo and stop Katanga seceding. Congo, which was receiving Soviet aid, had the world’s richest uranium resources. Mining firms feared their concessions would be jeopardised if Katanga’s bid for independence was not recognised. The KGB, the CIA and MI6 were all active in the country as they sought to secure their countries’ interests.”
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/13/spy-messages-solve-mystery-un-chief-death-crash
“Then there are lurid claims that some on board, including Hammarskjöld himself, had bullet wounds, suggesting he had survived the crash but had been killed on the spot. His body was found propped up on a termite mound a short distance from the plane, surrounded by playing cards. Reputedly an ace of spades was found on his collar.”
It would seem that the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is set to rename
Glasgow-Prestwick as Robert Burns

Two companies that provided fuelling and other services to military and private aircraft had their leases at Prestwick cancelled in October. One was Texas owned and the other locally owned. Their work will now be handled by the airport’s in house service company. Neither was very pleased about it.
I wonder if there is some connection?

Bamako-Senou Airport was opened to traffic in 1974.
The airport was upgraded between 2007 and 2012 in a 181 million US dollar project funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a United States foreign aid agency.
Now why would the U.S.A. think it needed to pump $181,000,000
into up-grading Bamako-Senou Airport?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamako%E2%80%93S%C3%A9nou_International_Airport
And why would the Ukraine Antonov Flight UKL4061 be making a detour to Bamako-Senou,
makes you think all is not as stated,
I wonder what goes on at Bamako-senou?

I do not know why the Ukraine Antonov Flight UKL4061,
flying from Glasgow-Prestwick to Equatorial-Guinea,
might wish to divert to Bamako-Senou?
quote
“From 2006 to 2012, MCC and the Government of Mali worked in close partnership to develop and implement a $460 million compact investment in the economic future of Mali. The compact was scheduled to conclude on September 17, 2012.
MCC takes seriously its partner countries’ commitment to democratic governance and the rule of law. The recent military coup in Mali was in direct conflict with these principles. Consequently, on May 4 2012, the Board authorized the termination of the Mali Compact no later than August 31, 2012. MCC officially terminated the compact on August 24, 2012.”
The Antonov crashed on 30th August this year.

AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control at 07:24hrs this morning.
At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available.

Watching this closely. Satellite-based or other high-tech anti-aircraft weaponry being demonstrated again or simply the fly-by-wire Airbus experiencing ‘technical difficulties’. I think the old saw that driving is far more dangerous than flying needs updating.
Here we go again!
Tony M, those are good questions. Electronic warfare?
Also, where is the maintenance done on AirAsia planes? Already discussed, long ago. We’ve also discussed unapproved parts (including counterfeit circuit boards), and that fire in the maintenance office after MH370 disappeared, conveniently, allegedly, destroying maintenance records.
Can’t wait to hear the (heavily-redacted) communication between the pilots and air traffic control this time around. Has someone hacked ATC (remembering that Malaysia did have a total loss of radar and radio at Subang Airport in September 2012; the UK had similar just weeks ago).
They might be able to blame this one on the weather. It’s getting to be a bit of a pattern, though, isn’t it? Malaysia has had three strikes in less than a year.

Also worth noting.
This time it is not a Boeing 777-200ER
It was clouds what done it, everyone knows that planes and clouds do not mix well, in the same way that ships and water are incompatible and prone to sink if they become the least bit wet.
Information is still very sketchy, but the search should have resumed by now.
Was the maintenance for the crashed Airbus carried out at a joint Malaysia Airlines-AirAsia MRO?
A very strange post appeared in May 2014 on a blog called Malaysia Airlines Families concerning a “con job by Tony Fernandez”. I’ll leave it at that.
