I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.
Waffles are available on Germanwings short-haul flights, presumably the toaster variety. Toasters are notorious for starting kitchen fires. Hint: empty the crumb tray. I’ll avoid any references to “Leggo my Eggo”.
It is ever so easy to dismiss the IMOS data as “highly unlikely” to be MH370. But the current, preferred search location is highly unlikelier, IMO. Why the pig-headed obstinance in refusing to consider eyewitness reports and corroborating scientific data that does not fit the predetermined answer? Any good scientist or criminal investigator would keep an open mind. It is never a smart idea to have tunnel vision.
Yes, the IMOS equipment is meant to detect nuclear events, and it will detect natural seismic events. Was nuclear testing or some rather unnatural event going on in the Maldives that we are not to know about, then? Who has done nuclear tests in the Maldives in the past? DPRK in February 2013?
As the rivalry between India and China over the Maldives grows, many speculate over which nation will be the first to build a naval base. Meanwhile, China’s submarine fleet continues to strengthen.

The Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses pour la Sécurité de l’Aviation Civile (BEA) opened an investigation into the crash, joined by its German counterpart, the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU),
and assisted by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
On 24 March, the BEA sent seven investigators to the crash site, accompanied by representatives from Airbus and CFM International.
The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) was recovered by rescue workers and was examined by the investigation team.The recorder was damaged in the crash, but was still in a usable condition. The BEA released photos of the CVR and was able to extract a voice recording.
On 2 April French prosecutor Brice Robin announced that the flight data recorder
had been found.

All that may (a big MAY) be recovered will be FRENCH toast.
In the 4U case, it is now clear that the leaked video was just an hoax based on a previous non-fatal incident.
In the MH370 case, if they never recover the black boxes, it’s unlikely they recover readable PED chips.
