I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.
The satellite had developed a small orbit they are talking about this now on Jeff Wise if you are interested .

Nothing interesting there. Just loads of pseudo-technical rigmarole. If there was a cover-up in the MH370 story, it’s certainly not that way you’re going to find out about it.
“Ukrainian authorities on Friday officially announced an end of an operation to search for human remains at the MH17 crash site. Gennady Zubko, the head of the government commission investigating the crash, said that 297 bodies had been found, and 295 of them were identified, Gazeta.ru reported. The bodies were repatriated to the Netherlands, according to the official. The Netherlands also said earlier this month that it had ended the search for human remains, personal belongings and wreckage. The Malaysia Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur is believed to have been shot down on July 17 last year over the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people aboard, mostly Dutch citizens.”

They certainly didn’t run out of fuel.
But it’s always good to state the obvious.
And like for MH370, the CTs seem to vanish into thin air.
But the FRENCH still don’t release the entire data about GermanWings. THIS is suspicious. If the captain was locked out, how could they hear him yell on the CVR?

Malaysia named Christoph Mueller, outgoing chief executive officer of Aer Lingus Group Plc, to lead a revamp of its flag-carrier airline following two crashes that killed 537 people this year. I am glad to see they did not give the job to somebody from Germanwings.

Air France flight to New York subject of anonymous threat
You could not make this stuff up
An Air France plane was being escorted to JFK airport in New York City this morning after an anonymous threat was made against the flight, a senior U.S. official told ABC News.
The Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack, in Garrett County received an anonymous call of a “chemical weapons threat” aboard Air France Flight 22, which is en route from Paris and is expected to land at the New York City airport later this morning.
The threat is not considered to be credible,
but when officials tried to reach AIR FRANCE representatives they were unsuccessful because it is a state holiday in FRANCE.
Air France Flight 22 was being escorted to Kennedy Airport on Monday after an anonymous threat was made against the flight, WABC reported. Fighter jets were scrambled after the flight from Charles De Gaulle Airport did not immediately respond to requests for information.
Russia Today – more to come
U.S. authorities scrambled fighter jets because AIR FRANCE did not immediately respond to U.S. government requests for information.
The Airbus A-330 plane, Flight 22 from Charles de Gaulle Airport, FRANCE,
landed in a secure area at Kennedy Airport, between runways 22L and 22R, to be searched.

An Air France Airbus A330-200, registration F-GZCH performing flight AF-22 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was enroute at FL400 about one hour prior to estimated arrival when the United States Air Force dispatched two F15 fighter aircraft to escort the A330 to landing at JFK Airport after a phone call had been received by Maryland State Police indicating a chemical attack would be carried out. The aircraft continued for a safe landing at JFK Airport and taxied to a remote apron, where the aircraft, luggage and passengers were searched without finding anything out of the ordinary

The threat was very credible. Maybe the chemical attack was involving stinky cheese?

the French Airbus crew immediately climbed to flight level 13000 feet which would have been fine except Mount Cameroon is approximately 13400 foot high! (given as variably – 4040/4090 metres above sea-level)

Yes but this time it was not FRENCH Airbus but one of those American aircraft.

An Air France aeroplane narrowly missed central Africa’s highest mountain in early May, French investigators say.
Flight AF953 was travelling from Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, to Douala, Cameroon’s largest city and commercial capital, when it hit bad weather on 2 May.
While avoiding storm clouds, the plane came close to hitting the 4,040-metre (13,254 feet) Mount Cameroon.
French accident investigators BEA have now opened an investigation.
Malabo, now that rings a bell.

Does being escorted in by a couple of F-15’s
mean if you deviate from route they will shoot you down?
Off Corse it does, and with good reason. The CDG to JFK route is as busy as the Champs-Elysees. Ask James the driver. If you have suspicious items on board, like Camembert or Roquefort, and do not ANSWER right away, they’ll put you down.
