I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.

So, there is only one Boeing 777 that could be missing a flaperon that washed up on Reunion Island.
Was that Boeing 777 also missing this?

If they find another bit of the aircraft/jigsaw on Mauritious,
then draw a line on a map linking Malaysia, Mauritious and Reunion, then search on that line but nearer to Malaysia?
So the theory goes.. MAS370 was starved of fuel and then crashed. The a/c would have “performed” a series of “dives” and then “climbs” (with varying degrees of bank) before hitting the ocean.
The would be a “debris field” on the water (dependent upon how it initially crashed) of the more “buoyant” items (wing assembly structures) and other material (dependent on how the hull broke up).
However, due to the delay(s) in getting to the “suspected crash site”, any such items would have dispersed …or sunk.
Exactly, James. This is why the eyewitness reports were ignored: it is much harder to find the debris field when it’s become waterlogged and vanished to the deeps. And so, all the debris field sank. All those eyewitnesses were ignored, and/or their characters were assassinated in the press.
It may be the case that the cynics were right: the purpose of the search was not to find the plane, ever. Maybe we should listen to Georesonance, or Courtney Love or all those countless others who looked for MH370 and posted to the internet.
No crime would ever be solved if the police told every eyewitness that they were wrong. They can’t all be wrong. That should tell us something about the search for MH370.

Someone on a news site said they popped Diego Garcia and the plastics headed straight to Madagascar. I tired it with the Maldives. Same thing. The timeline is helpful. Strangely, Malaysia produced similar results. The Bay of Bengal would take much longer than 16 months.
So, modern airplanes are made of composites. Plastic!
Wouldn’t it be interesting if the mangled pieced of metal also found on Réunion turned out to be part of MH370, too (not an ordinary handyman ladder of unknown provenance)?
Could it be part of the overwing emergency exit?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overwing_exits
Might this indicate a ditching if found in the same place? All speculation on my part, of course. But isn’t that what everyone has done in the months since this started?

As reported, flaperons for the 777 are made in Bangalore.

I was surprised to learn that Air Asia wants to form an MRO with Malaysia Airlines. Not a confidence-builder, IMO.

What will happen with France involved in the investigation of wreckage found in its Indian Ocean territory? France and Malaysia had a submarine deal. Then there’s Hayat Boumeddiene and the holiday in Malaysia.

The FRENCH line is still that the aircraft crashed off Australia in cool waters,
their expert claims these shell fish start off in cool waters, which is the opposite of other experts view that they started off in warm waters.
However they do say they have asked the authorities in Mauritius
to keep a weather-eye open for debris.
They do NOT SAY they have asked the authorities in DIEGO GARCIA to keep an eye open?
They’ve already foreshadowed what will happen in that article, MN. The evidence will point to the previous search area. The conclusion is drawn at the outset, as it always has been. It is not in the Bay of Bengal, so we won’t search there. It is not in the Maldives, so we will ignore eyewitness accounts. We will not search near the Andaman Islands, because it is not there. The case will never be solved: as they said from the very beginning. The nations are cooperating to come to these conclusions.
France and Malaysia had that submarine deal, and the murders that came out of it (including a French citizen on French soil) were never solved, either. The Chevaline murders will never be solved. That seems to be standard PR for the French. Why is this any different?
Have always thought something like this had legs….

The thing is….
….it altered course to head over the mainland (and was tracked by Primary Radar. Anyone flying would have known this. The aircraft would be seen. And yet no “fast air” was “scrambled”.
There were calls put out by MAS to MH370 on the “Sat Phone”. If it had crashed, why attempt such a thing ?
This was done BEFORE any SAR was contacted (in fact the SAR took it upon itself to begin a search… in the wrong area as they worked on “last known position”, which was not true. The LKP was heading towards Banda Aceh (Mil Radar) and not at IGARI (Secondary Radar)).
At Banda Aceh there is a “chioce” to be made….and an “incident” occurred.
That “incident” has always caused me concern. It was the “re-boot” of the SATCOM system BEFORE the “turn South”.
Put another way, MH370 never “threatened” Indonesian air space. It took the FIR borders. It “damn well made sure” it never was a threat…
The last “Sat Call” came from MAS not long before the eventual crash. Why make such a call then ? (same as the previous call… why do that ?).
MAYBE a person ABLE to fly the FIR borders….and then turn the a/c “due south” and “re ignite” the avionics (and satcom) to place the a/c on Track/Hold did this….after a failed “negotiation”.
Pure speculation of course…..but !
If several Islanders have reported a large crashed aircraft at the time of the missing MH370
why would you refuse to look there?

More plastic that may prove to be part of a plane, possibly MH370.

Réunion Islanders may find that a memorial (like the one at Peggy’s Cove) may boost the local economy via what I call “grief tourism”. That they are considering such a thing this early in the game is an indication of intent. Think of it: see the volcano, see the sharks, comb the beaches for trinkets from the greatest aviation mystery in this century, and take your selfie in front of the memorial. Hotels, restaurants and guides will be busy. Maybe the former Miss France could be recruited for the ad campaign. So what if it’s a morbid circus side show. Think of the benefit to all those families, who will now have somewhere to go to remember their loved ones. Sarcasm off.

confirmed
MN
There is “the strongest possibility” it is from MH370.
That’s the “wording” thus far.
Since no T7’s have come down in the sea, non in the Southern Hemisphere and non have landed with a missing flaperon….the “strongest possibility” must refer to the fact that “no serial numbers were found”, but “some kind of identification has been made” to differentiate “that” flaperon, from “any other” flaperon.
I guess a “modification” or “repair” logged in a maintenance file or other such report may have been used.
Whatever… my guess is, it is from MH370. And I’d be interested in seeing what a Marine Biologist thought of it’s condition.
Still “betting” on “pilot suicide/mass murder”, but as to the circumstances, I couldn’t hazard an “100 percent” guess. But I think “something more” has gone on here (pilot hijack with no plan B ?).

Malaysia butting heads with France, now, and China declining to pay for the search. Does it all go back to corruption and concealment of evidence? What does Malaysia have to hide? Rhetorical.
From Pink’s link:
The suitcase found on Reunion Island may hold the key: “forensic examination of a SEALED (caps by me) part of a suitcase recovered from the Indian Ocean island which is near Mauritius…”
Sounds like the day of reckoning is upon Najib Razak and his cronies.

Who has all these other items that Malaysian officials claim are from MH370? Do they contain trace elements from the soil in one of the “Stans”? They don’t make things easy for themselves and their “official” story of what went on. It starts to look like Malaysian officials sent a trawler off the coast of Reunion Island, chumming for beachcombers. More tales of questionable veracity from the bag of Malaysian government magic tricks. Do they ever tell the truth?
