I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.
Just a simple question, if the bits of debris have been washing up for some months, how come the world only finds out today?
@MN: It’s all getting stranger. Maybe the best place to find a missing plane is on E-Bay: call off the international search!

Maldives start searching for MH370 debris
MALAYSIA,
which asked for assistance from Maldives after the discovery of the debris,
has also appealed to the governments of Mauritius, about 140 miles northeast of Reunion,
and Madagascar,
to help widen the search for MH370.
“At this stage, it is highly premature to speculate on whether this debris is in any way connected to MH370,” Malaysia’s transport ministry said, about the debris found in Maldives, in a statement. “I urge all parties to allow for the verification process to take its course. Undue speculation will only stress the families and loved ones, anxiously awaiting news on this matter.”
Undue, the families have been waiting for over a year to know what happened.
I’d bet my bottom dollar DIEGO GARCIA
know what happened.
Malaysia says it is sending a team of experts to the Maldives to investigate reports that debris from the missing Flight MH370 has washed up there.

August 10 discussion on Jeff Wise is getting interesting:

Would any of the Maldive Islanders recognize an electronic warfare plane or a civilian search plne from anither country if they saw one?
One forum member seems to suggest that another plane looking for MH370 may have crashed (or not).
In other places, it would be expected for a search team to go out looking for a missing passenger plane. In this particular case, nothing is normal.
Right now, I believe that whatever happened is connected to politics, money and Najib Razak. Follow the trail of the $700 million.
Why did Najib Razak visit King Salmon of Saudi Arabia in the middle of the corruption scandal, and why the sudden interest in boats full of desperate migrants that overlaps with many locations key to the MH370 story? Georesonance claims some vessel is in the Bay of Bengal. It may not have anything to do with the missing plane, but it may be of equal significance. What is it, a boat full of migrants that was intentionally sunk to eliminate a problem?
Some of the Muslim migrants may have had the fortune to make it to Saudi Arabia, and now have identity cards and a state, but tens of thousands more are adrift.
Questions with no answers.
Anonymous Malaysia has launched an attack on Najib Razak.
Those bodies spotted floating in the ocean were Rohingya refugees, not passengers and crew of MH370. They may be the same bodies spotted by tomnodders and others.

Spoof site, BTW, but eerily close to the truth.
I wonder why it is so difficult for the FRENCH to say that the found flaperon is from MH370?
more pics of debris found whats this any ideas ?

@Pink: Not a surfboard, that’s for sure. Doesn’t look like a sailboat. Carbon fibre is a clue. Part of a strut?

All these plane crashes, yet not a single definative answer as to why,
on any of them.

The nose gear is similar, but scaled down. The materials can only be modern. These sound like corrosion-resistant materials used in landing gear.

Take a look at the landing gear here.
@Pink: Can you find this latest debris reported anywhere other than local Réunion news? I can’t, yet it seems important.

Very good image of the honeycomb that was referred to in the Maldives story, but this is from Sainte Suzanne. I see the international media have picked up the story, but it is hard to find where I am unless I search “Sainte Suzanne debris found”. There are good images showing it in scale. In some, it is attached to what appears to be the body of a “plane”. In others it is not. Are these two parts from different sides of the “plane”?
Hexcel is the trade name of the honeycomb material, and look which parts of the Boeing 777 use it…including wing trailing edge. Considering the flaperon was found in this area ,(pending French verification), a related piece of debris nearby would not be a surprise.

Some say it’s part of a sailboat.
http://www.crash-aerien.aero/forum/post488228.html
If this latest debris is from the sailboat grounding at the St. Brandon arxipelago in December 2014, then it is possible that the flaperons also drifted from tha archipelago, which includes the much larger Cocos Island.

Interesting Q just had a quick look around and can’t see much chatter about it.

Victor Ianello’s Twitter preminds me of that fire in the maintenance hangar. IIRC a blogger’s report stated that the records for 9M-MRO were destroyed in the fire soon after it went missing.
It does seem strange that FRANCE has gone quiet,
how hard can it be for them to say the
flaperon came from MH370

three month wait?
So now mini-Psy is beach debris in Réunion. Thank you for that, MN, just when I got those songs out of my head.
How many mystery plane crashes have there been, in say, the last ten years, that take more than a year
before the public are advised on the causes.
The one that stands alone would seem to be the germanwings, the FRENCH prosecutor knew who did it within two days.
