I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.

How does an illegal marine protected area affect the lease, and what will happen at the end of this year with the U.S. base?
Will the (MH370) debris now floating to the surface on Reunion and Mauritius be important to the renewal of the lease?
Is this the reason for the alleged MH370 international cover-up?

MH370 search: New debris found in Mauritius to be examined
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-35953295
Australia says a piece of debris found on a Mauritian island will be examined to see if it is part of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
A hotel owner on the island who saw the debris said it bore a design and looked like it was from the inside of a plane.
If confirmed, it would be the first piece of interior debris from the plane yet to be found.
MH370 disappeared in March 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 239 passengers.
Despite an extensive deep water search, led by Australia, the plane and all its passengers remain missing.
SURVEY MH370: possible debris discovered on an island in the Indian Ocean
The Australian transport minister announced Sunday that a new debris found on Rodrigues, which depends on Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean, would be examined to determine if it belongs to MH370 flight disappeared two years ago.
This object was discovered by a couple of tourists on the island Rodrigues, one of the three islands of the Mascarene Islands, part of the Republic of Mauritius, according to the website of Australian information news.com.au , quoting the website of the Clicanoo Meeting.
The Boeing 777 of the company Malaysa Malaysian Airlines disappeared March 8, 2014 with 239 people on board shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
“The Malaysian government is working with officials from Mauritius to get custody of this debris and ensure his review,” said Australian Minister Darren Chester.
“This debris is an interesting element, but until it has been reviewed by experts it is not possible to state its origin,” said Mr. Chester.
The new discovery comes less than two weeks after the announcement by the Australian and Malaysian authorities that two debris found on the Mozambican side came “almost certainly the MH370.”
South African officials also said in March that a fragment found near Mossel Bay, a small town in the South African province of the Western Cape, would be analyzed to determine if it could be from the missing plane.
For now, a wing fragment found in July 2015 on the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, and owned by the Malaysian authorities and the French justice MH370, is the only evidence that the plane s ‘crashed. But this element has not provided any response to the circumstances of the disappearance of the unit.
More than 95,000 square km already explored
It is Australia who directs research to try to find the wreckage. According to Chester, Australian authorities “continue to hope that the plane will be discovered.” More than 95,000 square kilometers, over a search area of 120,000 square kilometers in total, have already been explored without the crash site was discovered. Australia, China and Malaysia have announced that they would stop operations when the search area has been fully explored, except if new information were to appear.

I didn’t know that aviation expert Desmond Ross played a role in southern Sudan and at Kabul Airport. He has also worked as an ICAO instructor at Concordia University in Montreal. Concordia has been accused in the past of being a hotbed for radicals, including extremist Muslims, a reputation the school denies.

Nice bit of youtube footage. I’ve not seen that before.
Seems like “on impact” its “shattered” (pretty much like aircraft do, hitting “hard” things).
My question on this has always been (and there’s been no tech answer to it as yet), how the hell did the SATCOM reboot.
I’m not familiar with the B777 systems or how they “in ops” work(but generally CB’s/Buses/Circuits/Backups are all the same), yet I still can’t figure out the “turn it off completely” and turn it “on… so it’s running, but not actually working).
It mat seem “trivial”, but it is actually quite something.
SATCOM is powered up when you “power up” the systems. It can be “stopped” but it still remains “on” (actually “running” but not “on”). There’s a bit more to it than that, but basically “if you have power thru your systems, then SATCOM is “on” (well, on as in “running”…. or powered, but it may not be “working”).
At the end of the flight of MAS370, I get the “infrequent” so called handshakes. That will most likely be the fuel starvation element….and the transfer buses kicking in (one engine will fail first, then the other…the buses will switch power). That would effectively cause a “reboot” (a logon).
Somewhere between after IGARI ….and somewhere near Banda Aceh, the SATCOM sys was actually “dead”.
As in, there was no power thru the system.
And then it was “started”. It rebooted. It was “as if” it had power for the first time…again. The same a/c.
And then, what the hell had “he” turned off, that the need to “power up” again was needed ?
Oddly, the ATSB hasn’t provided an answer to this.
In their report (a year ago ish) they merely said “as though there was no power (sic engines)”.
So they’re stumped to !

Turkish planes flew over Greek islands twice on Monday – military
Turkish war planes flew over Greek islands twice on Monday, the Greek General Staff has said. The two F-16 fighter jets entered Greek airspace between islands of Lesbos and Chios for a minute, RIA Novosti reported. Later, two F-4s and one КС-135 plane violated Greek airspace between Limnos and Lesbos at a height of 6700 meters for two minutes, according to Greek military. During three months of this year, 266 Turkish warplanes violated Greek airspace 328 times, Athens said.
If I was the Greeks I’d shoot them down, just like the Turks did to the Russians.

Maybe MH370 would have been found by now if there had been a “Snakes on a Plane” scenario.
