I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.

This aircraft was brand new.
What a coincidence = 43000
World needs 43,000 more planes in next 20 years: Boeing

https://www.enca.com/technology/world-needs-43000-more-planes-in-next-20-years-boeing
then we find the Boeing serial number of the aircraft that came down in Indonesia = manufacturer’s serial number 43000
Divers on Thursday recovered a flight data recorder from the crashed Lion Air jet, a crucial development in the investigation into what caused the plane to plunge into Indonesian seas earlier this week, killing all 189 people on board.

Boeing are keeping rather quite about this disaster, they have not suggested that these new aircraft, do not fly, untill the causes are understood?
French engines again.
That the Aircraft disappeared is beyond ridiculous.
Can you for a minute imagine the assets that the US has for monitoring the world, and this plane just disappeared.
Someones pulling your finger……..
After much MSM decoding and also sifting through drivel published by some conspiracy theorists my conclusion is roughly this.
The US government through its dedicated agencies prevailed upon Boing to include a kill switch on each plane it manufactures (they did it after 9/11).
So the result is they can bring any Boeing passenger plane down regardless who operates it or where it is flying.
So they tested it once on Flight MH370 and then did it a second time for political reasons with the same airline – MH17

In an internal message to Boeing employees, company chief executive Dennis Muilenburg staunchly defended how it handled development and deployment of the 737 Max’s maneuvering characteristics augmentation system.

moving the engine higher and forward may have made the MAX more flippy in some circumstances, the purpose was to reduce fuel usage, so an automatic system was introduced to correct handling.
“Indonesian investigators have said the Lion Air plane that crashed last month killing 189 people was not airworthy and should have been grounded.
The Boeing 737 Max plane crashed into the Java Sea shortly after departing Jakarta on 29 October.
A preliminary report has found technical problems had been reported on previous flights.
The 737 Max is a new version of Boeing’s original 737 and has become its fastest selling plane.
The preliminary report details what is known by authorities about the short time the plane was in the air, but investigators said it does not give a definitive cause for the accident.!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-46121127
“The report also indicated that pilots struggled with the aircraft’s anti-stall automated system – a new feature in the 737 Max family.”
Surely this would indicate that lots of training should have been carried out my pilots, prior to members of the public being on board?
Lion Air co-founder Rusdi Kirana is furious over Boeing attempts to blame the airline and understating design changes, and looks to cancel deliveries among 190 remaining orders worth $22 billion at list prices. While procedures already exist to cancel automated nose-down commands, software changes examined by Boeing can be seen as bearing a responsibility.
It is strange that there is so little news coverage of the responsibility of Boeing

The search for economies may have gone too far.
Personally, I wouldn’t trust a word from CNN. They may have people who are close to US officialdom, but their reporting of aviation matters is woeful. Quite how anyone can know what routing the captain pre-programmed into the autopilot is beyond me. Without the benefit of the flight data recorder, I cannot see how anyone can postulate what was taking place on the flight deck. That the turn took place is without doubt, but the reasons for it are currently unknown and we can all play ‘pin the tail on the donkey’, but to no useful end.
The thing I have found the most mysterious in all this is the reluctance of Malaysian Airlines to release complete copies of the loadsheet and cargo manifest. Malaysia delayed the release of what they claimed was the full cargo manifest until two months after the plane vanished. The loadsheet details where the cargo was loaded, how much fuel was on board, the number of passengers etc. It also (crucially) details the weight and location of all the cargo..It is believed that the aircraft was carrying a significant consignment of lithium-ion batteries and there are strict regulations as to how these goods should be loaded, following a little-reported accident to a Boeing 747 in 2010, brought about by a fire on board, which destroyed the aircraft and killed the crew. https://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20100903-0. It is clear from the report that the crew found the situation extremely difficult to deal with, and the resultant fire brought down the aircraft.
More than 2.2 tonnes of cargo on the aircraft were described as ‘radio parts and chargers’, but it does not say what proportion of these was lithium-ion batteries-a very vague description for such a potentially dangerous item.
Malaysian’s reluctance to release full details of the cargo suggests to me at least, that they know more about this than they are saying, doubtless to avoid the huge claims which would follow, were it to be proved that the cargo was not handled correctly.
More food for thought was it a magic trick. http://jeffwise.net/2019/03/25/mh370-as-stage-magic/#more-5990

Ethiopian crash jet crew ‘followed procedure’
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47812225
Pilots “repeatedly” followed procedures recommended by Boeing before last month’s crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight, according to the first official report into the disaster.
Despite their efforts pilots “were not able to control the aircraft”, Transport Minister Dagmawit Moges said.
Flight ET302 crashed six minutes after take-off from Addis Ababa, killing all 157 people on board.
It was the second crash of a Boeing 737 Max aircraft in five months.
Last October, Lion Air flight JT 610 crashed into the sea near Indonesia killing all 189 people on board.
Things are looking very bad for Boeing, people most assuredly need to be held to account.

Mr Sullenberger said there was a multiple chain of events that caused the two crashes. But he added that the chain “began many years ago with the decision to upgrade a half-century old design”.
“These crashes are demonstrable evidence that our current system of design and certification has failed us,” he told the committee.
Boeing is working with regulators to get the Max back in the air as soon as possible.
But Mr Sullenberger said he did not expect accident investigators to complete their work for many months, putting a question mark over whether the aircraft can resume flights before the end of the year.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48631362
He told the committee: “I’m one of a relatively small group of people who have experienced such a crisis and lived to share what we learned about it.
“I can tell you first hand that the startle-factor is real, and it’s huge. And it absolutely and it quickly interferes with one’s ability to quickly analyse the crisis and take effective action.
“Within seconds, these crews would have been fighting for their lives in the fight of their lives.”

Anything to cut costs? Boeing accused of outsourcing 737 MAX software at $9 an hour
https://www.rt.com/news/463031-boeing-software-outsourced-costs/
Newly graduated programmers employed by third-party software developers – including Indian HCL Technologies Ltd and Cyient Ltd – were making as little as $9 an hour, roughly four times less than their own experienced engineers who Boeing was actively laying off. The company reportedly outsourced flight-display software and programs for flight-test equipment. While the final code allegedly complied with their strict specifications, the efficiency of such work was below expectations, as subcontractors were pressured to avoid any major changes that could cause delay.
Boeing look like they are in a very dark place, these days.
Truly chilling.

US lawmakers have accused Boeing of engaging in a “pattern of deliberate concealment” as it sought approval for its 737 Max 8 plane to fly.
The accusation came as Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg was quizzed by the Senate Commerce Committee.
Senators said they had serious concerns that Boeing put profits over safety as it rushed to get clearance.
Two deadly 737 Max 8 crashes killed a total of 346 people. Mr Muilenburg admitted the firm had made “mistakes”.

I think “mistakes” is rather mild, I would have said deliberately putting profit before people.
Federal Aviation Administration chief Stephen Dickson will testify before Congress on 11 December about the agency’s certification of the Boeing 737 Max – a hearing analysts view as an opportunity for Dickson to convince lawmakers and the public that the Max will be safe.
The hearing before the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure comes at a critical time for the FAA and for Boeing.
The US airframer continues to stick to its estimate that the FAA will re-certify the 737 Max before year-end.
The House committee has confirmed Dickson’s appearance at the 11 December hearing, titled “The Boeing 737 Max: Examining the Federal Aviation Administration’s Oversight of the Aircraft’s Certification”.
