I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.
Ricki; from the link–Indentured servitude? Mail-order employees? $330 per mo salary would have airfare deducted from paycheck?
“The contracts, which Xie has made public, were for the men to work from mid-February to mid-May of this year at a base salary of $330 per month. The men, as well as a manager whose name was not listed in the contract, were all supposed to receive one-way plane tickets from Kuala Lumpur — something else that Xie said he found unusual.

Trowbridge – Your 3:53
Perhaps you are right and the set up did not work because the Malaysians do not see terrorism at every turn of the wheel. plausible stuff.
The reason why Malaysia police say the two Iranians were not involved in terrorism is as stupid as a one can get.
“..Pattaya police chief Pol Colonel Suphachai Phuikaew-kham said both the tickets, bought for the travellers by two Iranians, were for travel on from Beijing to Europe. If it was terrorism, they would have specified the route and airline, but they only asked for the cheapest ticket, he said…”
What difference does the route of the plane or the airline or the cost of the ticket make to anyone out to blow up a plane?
All that matters is that it is a big plane and you can get on it.

This cannot be ruled out as a contributing factor yet, IMO.

The two passengers may have been ‘mules’ without knowing it.
@Ricki Tarr: Thank goodness this is not heading in the direction of a party in the cockpit.
The thing that I was trying to get across is if something was about to happen on that plane, then it is a fact that the fly by wire plane would be controlled remotely, there are loads of articles on this being the new procedure for planes with this technology!
Ricki; Have you perused the entire thread. Check out BUAP.
Donald.
The Iranians were dismissed far too quickly by the authorities who of course could have been duped, but that photo was not right & why did they take the long route when the mother was already legally in Germany.Lots of unanswered questions.
Very interesting to hear Ali was in Tehran when he booked tickets for two guys in Malaysia, he must be a fake passport & a travel agent
Let’s hope checks & detective work is being done which we do not know about.
Publicly all concentration is focussed on the BB at present rather than motive or who committed this crime.
I’ve thought of another improvement for the black box of the future, that would be some sort of ID in its ping.
Bluefin… [or should that be Bluffin ? ] torpedo thingy, can apparently listen right down to the sea bed.
Ben yes there were some odd things going on around there at the time.
Remember the Chinese said they too had found some sort of seismic activity with some thinking it was in line with an aircraft hitting the sea bed…………………….well, how could that be with thousands of metres of water softening the landing ?
Ben – Your 4:12 that was exactly my thought but there might be a bit more to this yet.
The young Iranian had a friend in Malaysia and the two travelers stayed with him for a while.
But the Malaysian friend who had known the younger Iranian for many years did not know the older traveler who had been introduced to him as a friend of the younger one.
And why would two people traveling on false passports enter an airport together, be seen together and so on? One would think they would stay away from each other in case one got caught and the other one was questioned for being in his company.
Is it possible the older Iranian was an agent using the younger fellow as a cover?
It is not unknown for Iran to offer cash incentives to would be martyrs, Saddam used to do it all the time, so does Hamas and Hezbollah .. the money gets delivered to the families once the martyr is dead … and they never fail to pay.
It would be good to know if any of their relatives has suddenly bought a new house, car or whatever.
“.well, how could that be with thousands of metres of water softening the landing ?”
Seismic buoys? They have lots of sensors for tsunami warning all over the globe Katie.
Katie – Your 4:22
A few days ago I hacked every known Iranian English newspaper, not a mention of the older Iranian traveler nor of Mr Ali, one would think the Iranians would be helping out.
Why has Iran not mentioned Mr Ali and what efforts have they made to find him? This is a question that deserves an answer.
I’m beginning to think this might have been a test to see if Iran could take control of commercial planes. Destroying it has now left no clues and they can do what they wish in the future
Q
I don’t think the aircraft intended to “make land” and locate a runway.
The fuel onboard was sufficient to get it to were it is.
The “southern route” provides little on no Primary Radar coverage at all.
The Australian “over the horizon” radar doesn’t cover that area either.
1. As far as I know, Malaysia handed the aircraft over to Vietnam.
The aircraft signed off with Malaysia but never contacted Vietnam.
2. It is reported that Secondary radar (Malaysian ?) then lost contact with the flight and it is assumed the transponders were “disabled”.
3. The flight then turns West towards Malaysia. This plot is from Vietnamese primary radar (?).
4. The flight crosses over Malaysia heading for Penang. I assume tracked on Primary radar, but no idea who’s. I would imagine Malaysian.
5. The flight then appears to turn North/North West/West. No idea who is tracking this now (the picture is somewhat confusing).
6. The flight “rounds” Indonesia. At what distance I haven’t a clue. Possibly out of radar contact of Indonesia.
7. There then is what appears to be a flight South. There is “nothing” down there.
Certain there is no primary radar sites. If your not sending information to satellites, then no one will see you at all.
I don’t know what the ATC protocols and set up in are in Malaysia.
(No doubt the “pending” court case will find that out !)
The obvious questions is why didn’t Malaysian jets scramble at an “unidentified” track moving towards its coast, crossing over its territory and heading for Penang….and did Indonesia pick up this aircraft on their Primary radar.
It’s all a bit “academic” really because what would they do then ?
They haven’t the range to follow it, so do they shoot it down.
Who else are they going to call ? Fighter interceptors out of Perth ? That would be the longest “scramble” in history. The alarm sounds, they hop in their aircraft….and then wait for two or three hours before rolling ! And then what !
Fly around looking for an airliner. It could be anywhere.
Whoever wanted that T7 “lost”, wanted it really really really lost.
And expensively lost to boot !
@benjnw don’t take any guff from these swine!
James – Your 4:29 “…Fighter interceptors out of Perth ? That would be the longest “scramble” in history……”
F18 Hornets from Australia regularly fly to and land at Diego Garcia. You can find photos of them here:

I assume they know where Diego Garcia is ?
You see I have always found it helps when you know where you’re going.
Whereas “hunting” an aircraft an aircraft “last sighted” many hours that “may be” heading South…. well, be my guest “over ocean”.
@James 4:29 pm: It would have taken a lot of advance planning and flying skill to do that, as I said yesterday. The suicidal pilot/s theory seems completely out to lunch.
Fighter jets don’t wait forever when an aircraft is not responding. Long ago I posted a link to a KAL passenger jet incident. It had been reported at the time in other stories that the jets were “moments” away from taken decisive action. Moments are less than minutes.
For no one to scramble at all? That’s incredibly hard to believe. Leaves me thinking that all the altitude and route changes were quite intentional, with knowledge of how to evade pursuers. That would take a lot of knowledge, advance planning and skill.
By quite intentional, I do not mean to exclude actions taken outside the flight deck or the plane itself, nor intentional malice by interfering with the plane’s controls.
James – The radar system on an F-18 is simply awesome, it can detect a plane at over 150 Km, further when there are no atmospheric obstacles … at any height .. all it takes is for a few of them to fly a certain distance from each other and they cover a huge area of space.
But I agree, they would not have found it if it never went that way. Which I doubt it did, in fact I don’t think it ever left the South China seas.

Ben – David Icke posted on this a while back so they probably ignored thinking it had something to do with the lizard people and they didn’t want to upset their leader Obama 🙂
Donald; Would those be Komodo Dragon, or Iguanas with tin-foil hats? 🙂
All of a sudden I’m moderated. What are the keywords?
Ben – I have no idea .. perhaps “Truth”, “Honesty”, “Integrity” and “Loyalty” might be words to avoid 🙂
Once, I wrote ‘controlled demolition’ and software saw it as tr**l. 🙂
@Ben: There is some debate over what this is, and whether it came from a military aircraft. But you are right. It seems to have escaped notice for the most part.
On other matters, NNR Global Logistics Sdn Bhd of Malaysia handled Motorola’s shipment of lithium ion batteries. Officials say that the weight of the batteries is not what matters, but their watt per hour measurements.

“NNR is a participant in the TSA’s Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP). NNR has invested in screening equipment in 18 locations around the USA. We offer cargo screening services to shippers, forwarders, and carriers. As of August 1st, 100% of all cargo moving on passenger flights will have to be screened. Let us help you with your cargo screening requirements.”
Logically, not 100% of cargo on passenger flights is screened presently.
