I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.
Rhetorical, on Australia’s own Black Hawk down:

Ridding themselves of inconvenient witnesses is not beneath them, Q.

All concidental…..
Context of the 2006 Black Hawk crash:

I have been hearing about the unloading of suspicious cargo relayed, ostensibly by Russian/Chinese surveillance of MA, but nothing solid, naturally.
http://greatgameindia.wordpress.com/2014/03/16/mh370-mystery-suspicious-cargo-death-of-2-ex-navy-seals-aboard-mv-maersk-alabama/
“What first aroused GRU suspicions regarding the MV Maersk Alabama, this report continues, was that within 24-hours of off-loading this “highly suspicious” cargo load bound for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, the two highly-trained US Navy Seals assigned to protect it, Mark Daniel Kennedy, 43, and Jeffrey Keith Reynolds, 44, were found dead under “suspicious circumstances.”
The deposed and deported editor of the Fiji Sun went on to write a book:

Role of SAS in Fiji coup questioned:

What was the excuse for intervention, humanitarian, or retaining a safe vacation spot for Aussies?
Notice the “confusion” over whether or not the Black Hawk crashed in international waters or Fiji’s territorial waters. The Dec. 1, 2006 post shows that Angus Houston said the depth of the crash (2000 to 3000 metres) meant that the cause of the crash might never be known. Note ambiguous details about where the crash really occurred.
Solid oil; Lithium in New Guinea seems to be the former Journalists opinion, and lookee here

Nothing found on Lithium wrt Fiji/New Guinea. Not sure what the Fijian deported editor sees until I read the book I guess.
Not sure, Ben, but here’s something on minerals and off-shore resources in Fiji:

I did note that Placer Dome/Barrick Gold have a gold mine in PNG:

Curious that the Fiji Sun editor wrote about lithium, and lithium was confirmed as cargo on MH370. Nothing to make it more than a curiosity at the moment.

“CNN saying the aircraft cant possibly be at DG because it wouldnt have been allowed to land. Reading between the lines are CNN saying that the aircraft was shot down for trying to land at DG?”
CNN is most intent on debunking the Diego Garcia conspiracy theories. They ignore the ones that claim the plane was hijacked (either by persons on board or by remote control) by the US or friendlies for whatever reason and flown to Diego Garcia.
A completely different conspiracy theory says the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) dun it to detract from internal goings-on.
“Ren Baiming suspects a connection between the MH370 hijacking and the CCP due to the sensitive time the incident took place– it happened during the CCP congressional meetings, the focus prior to the meetings, Zhou Yongkang’s case and the focus now with the majority of passengers on board being Chinese.”

Isn’t it curious how lithium deposits seem to be located in countries with ongoing wars and political conflicts:
https://totallyfreepress.wordpress.com/2011/03/15/the-new-oil-afghanistans-lithium-mines-worth-trillions-of-dollars/
Maybe lithium is the truth, but was MH370 carrying it as batteries, or in some other form?
“The demand for lithium increased dramatically during the Cold War with the production of nuclear fusion weapons. Both lithium-6 and lithium-7 produce tritium when irradiated by neutrons, and are thus useful for the production of tritium by itself, as well as a form of solid fusion fuel used inside hydrogen bombs in the form of lithium deuteride.”
There are other uses for lithium, described here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium
With the talk of lithium from brine, it makes a person wonder if seamounts will be harnessed at some point. That’s an aside.

CNN are so intent on debunking the possibility of the aircraft landing at DG that they are almost saying that it was shot down trying to land there.
People in high places often have detractors, and Angus Houston is no exception:

There’s also an article about him with “going jack” in the title.
For reference about the Perth-based Special Air Services Regiment (SAS):

Thanks Q,
I doubt one person military or not, could pull this disappearance off.
There is of course every chance some other un-named military /spook was onboard, we just don’t not know much about the other 100 passengers… nor will we be told if some were doing ‘sensitive’ work.

Please allow me a silly hypothetical here … if the plane managed to avoid the Malaysian, Thailand and Indonesian radars then why not the Indian one?
I was just having a look at the coast of India and I can’t see no reason why a plane should not be able to fly across India using commercial routes.
I’m sure if the plane was highjacked and waypoints used all the way to Indonesia then there is no reason why the plane should not keep on flying west for a while then climb up towards well known commercial routes ..
Unscheduled flights must surely be a part of flying those areas, cargo especially.

And further to my silly theory I’ve just read that Kolkata’s radar is not the dandy we would like it to be. Highly suspect.

The last one seems to be on our heels. The radar range of the first link seems to be grossly underestimating radar in the area. Various kinds of radar are in the region, including the latest in advanced technologies.

That’s a brilliant link, if the tides are really like that I’d have thought the ‘brains’ involved with this search could have managed to track the debris…………………..if of course there was ever a crash in the region !

The Earth link you are looking at is a map of the Earth’s Jet Streams and Higher wind currents, it’s good but you should also use a surface map.

CNN answered viewers questions.
Q 1: Has anyone flown the entire length of the track flown by MH370? They might see something.
Expert 1: Good question. The answer is we don’t know the exact track.
If the track isn’t known, especially the part following loss of communication with wildly varying guesstimates of altitude and air-speed and loops around Indonesia, how can the end-point be known?
I might have misheard this one.
Q 2: Do we know if fighters were sent to intercept MH370?
Expert 2: The United States and other countries would know immediately if fighters were scrambled, though they wouldn’t say so publicly, but provide minimal information to investigators.
So everyone knows when small fighters are in the air, but not big 777s?
