I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.
This university claims to be the best in Crimea:

It is quite interesting to me that technology developed in this Crimean port city is now being used in the search for MH370, in terms of what this may symbolize.

We have successfully applied our technology to locate submersed structures, ships and aircraft. The technology has also been used to successfully identify WWII munitions that later led to the recovery of explosives left buried under layers of silt in the coastal Black Sea.”

They are very transparent about foreign recruitment. As if this needed the cover off.

“Foreign and domestic businesses compete in a global economy. Some foreign governments provide resources and information, including competitive intelligence gathering and corporate espionage on behalf of their indigenous companies as a way to promote the overall economic well-being of their country. Foreign intelligence services pursue restricted information and so may seek out people who have, or will eventually have, access to restricted information.
Individual entrepreneurs may capitalize on opportunities to bring new technology or services to their country in order to fill a niche currently supplied by non-native companies. To jump start business, they may steal research or products that would otherwise be costly to create or replicate. Academics may steal research and use it or claim it as their own for a variety of reasons. Terrorist organizations may want information on products or processes they can use to inflict mass casualties or damage.”

“The Russian government may invest up to US$1 billion in the development of higher education in Crimea, which it controversially controls following February’s Ukrainian Revolution.”
If MH 370 diverted west after its alleged last radar blip, and it said good night to the Kuala Lumpur CT, why are there no radar blips with it, and attempted radio contact by it while the plane was flying back over the MalAy Peninsula – what one would naturally expect?
The answer seems to be that they did not occur because the plane kept going towards Vietnam.
Yes, Ben, it is most curious that the Russians would want to take over universities of a quality that “leaves much to be desired”. Does this mean that the universities’ best and brightest have headed for the hills, along with their technological inventions? Or are they still there, doing work of a quality that “leaves nothing to be desired”, for their new overseers? The U.S.-backed Ukrainian government was in charge until recently. Why the need to insert the Sevastopol-developed remote sensing methods into the MH370 chess game? There must be a reason. So odd when we’re told by the media that much of the obfuscation surrounding MH370 is due to various players not wanting to reveal their hand, or technological capabilities, don’t you think?
@Trow
There was this report on march 8th I don’t know what happened about that .
HANOI Sat Mar 8, 2014 1:02am EST
(Reuters) – A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew crashed into the sea 153 miles off the coast of Vietnam’s Tho Chu island on Saturday, according to a Vietnamese navy officer quoted by state media.
“At the moment there are no Vietnamese navy boats in that area so we have to ask boats from Phu Quoc island to be prepared for rescue,” Admiral Ngo Van Phat told the website of Tuoi Tre news…. read @

I believe that this is one of the techniques GeoResonance uses in its remote sensing:

FWIW, the late scientist Lachlan Cranswick (originally from Melbourne) was a specialist in this field, until his mysterious death. His body was found in a Canadian river in June 2010. The technique uses a nuclear reactor.

The Malaysian government has decided to send its report to the ICAO, in a break wih protocol on such matters. Can we assume that the Malaysian government is unconcerned with trivialities as independent investigations, free from political and corporate influence? Remembering that Malaysia won its seat on the ICAO council in 2010 with 137 out of 161 eligible votes.

“It’s not customary for air accident investigation reports to go to the ICAO. It’s the responsibility of each nation’s accident investigation agency to release the reports directly to the public as (it sees) fit, according to long-established protocols that demonstrate the independence of the investigators from both political and industry influence,” Irving said on the news portal.
