I had fairly well concluded that the most likely cause was a fire disrupting the electrical and control systems, when CNN now say the sharp left turn was pre-programmed 12 minutes before sign off from Malaysian Air Traffic control, which was followed fairly quickly by that left turn.
CNN claim to have this from an US official, from data sent back before the reporting systems went off. It is hard to know what to make of it: obviously there are large economic interests that much prefer blame to lie with the pilots rather than the aircraft. But if it is true then the move was not a response to an emergency. (CNN went on to say the pilot could have programmed in the course change as a contingency in case of an emergency. That made no sense to me at all – does it to anyone else?)
I still find it extremely unlikely that the plane landed or crashed on land I cannot believe it could evade military detection as it flew over a highly militarized region. Somewhere there is debris on the ocean. There have been previous pilot suicides that took the plane with them; but the long detour first seems very strange and I do not believe is precedented. However if the CNN information on pre-programming is correct, and given it was the co-pilot who signed off to air traffic control, it is hard to look beyond the pilots as those responsible for whatever did happen. In fact, on consideration, the most improbable thing is that information CNN are reporting from the US official.
@Ben: Those posting on forums attacking GeoResonance all seem to have one voice, almost as if one person wrote the attacks. However, the majority of people posting on forums have different viewpoints, but come to a similar conclusion — check it out, what do we have to lose?
Their credibility remains to be proven, but they couldn’t fare worse than the international search team.
The speculative route in Malaysia’s report on MH370 shows it passing right over Cocos Islands.
“Strategic importance
The Cocos Islands are geostrategically important because of their proximity to Indian Ocean and South China Sea shipping lanes.[25] The United States Armed Forces have planned to construct airbases on the Cocos Islands, capable of supporting drone-based espionage and surveillance over the South China Sea. Euronews described the plan as providing Australian support for increased American presence in Southeast Asia, but likely to upset Chinese officials. James Cogan has written for the World Socialist Web Site that airbase construction at Cocos is one component of Obama’s “pivot” towards Asia, facilitating control of the sea lanes between the Indian and Pacific Oceans and potentially allowing US forces to enforce a blockade against China. After plans to construct airbases were leaked to the Washington Post, Australian defence minister Stephen Smith stated that the Australian government views “Cocos as being potentially a long-term strategic location, but that is down the track.”

I have posted previously about Cocos Islands.
Any path taken by 9M-MRO after the aircraft lost touch is pure speculation without basis in evidence, unless the Malaysian government would like to share with us the information they have about the four-hour time warp. The report as we have seen it is only going to fuel more speculation about why they edited shipping documents, etc.

Georesonance technology seen as ‘pseudoscience’.
From what I can gather it is old Soviet tech.
No idea if it is any good or not.
The Soviets had some good ideas…and also some crap ideas.
Question is, what have GeoResonance done previously ?
I seem to think “not alot” ?
What has BlueFin 21 done ?
Well it DIDN’T find AF447…. so there we go.
“GeoResonance has exclusive access to demilitarised technology now owned by the Sevastopol National University of Nuclear Energy and Industry in Ukraine, Mr Kursa said”
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/business/sa-business-journal/adelaide-company-georesonance-to-use-former-soviet-union-weapons-technology-to-search-for-for-oil-and-gas-in-sa-qld/story-e6fredel-1226631746538
A problem for GeoResonance is…
If they have found the crash site (big IF), the easy to see wreckage would have sunk by now. They’d need big money to “prove” they are right.
OR disprove they are wrong !
One point is, if (again big IF) MAS370 tried for am airport that was known to the pilot(s) and it went wrong. In several “modes” they could have ended up in the Bay of Bengal.
At this stage of the campaign, it may be wise for “the authorities” to at the bery least “check” what GeoResonance do. Inmarsat had to get the AAIB involved before MAS would listen to them.
James; why do you suppose GR would go directly to the Bay of Bengal when everyone knows it’s not there? In addition; why would they expose their technology and credibility on the World stage if they were not confident of the capability? After all, they are just seeking publicity.
“old Soviet tech…”
It seems the GR startup is about a decade ago. It seems their tech can see through the Earth, but is hobbled by the ocean.
“James; why do you suppose GR would go directly to the Bay of Bengal when everyone knows it’s not there ?”
Simple. They didn’t.
If you read their search, you will see where they searched.
This included the Bay of Bengal. It wasn’t “only” the Bay of Bengal.
Of course this may all be some “weird” stunt. And they have nothing.
But since the search has turned up nothing, it is worthwhile having some kind of “look” at their results and tech employed.
And you still have to look at the “past track record” of the company.
If he has the “Holy Grail” on exploration….then it can be shown.
Maybe the “tech” can only show “trace elements”.
Maybe “trace” is not great in exploration but works in “aircraft hunting”.
Maybe the “tech” works.
Maybe it doesn’t.
What I am saying is, with so little on the table, it is worth looking at “the tech” to see if it’s just “snake oil” or it can “see” trace elements !
I’m not holding my breathe….but it’s worth a look. That all I can say.

“Hishammuddin said a search in the Bay of Bengal risked distracting the current search effort. “If we went there and the result from the search was negative, who is going to be resposible (sic) for that loss of time? Having more vessels out there will affect the search in the (current) area,” he added.”
From: http://www.airtrafficmanagement.net/2014/05/new-mh370-lead-risks-distracting-search-effort/
This makes no sense. The two navy frigates from Bangladesh were not down in the “forties” with the international team. The Bangladesh navy will not be taking anyone away from anything.
There is a certain irony in this line, however:
“If we went there and the result from the search was negative, who is going to be resposible (sic) for that loss of time?”
Does anyone use “LOL” any more?
Apparently there is a survey ship now taking part in the Bay of Bengal search, for a total of three ships. No word on who this ship belongs to.

Bluebird, I believe this link moves the story back into the golden mangosteen turf, or perhaps an overlap with the luminescent mangosteen angle.
I came upon many news articles about the crime lords of Johor. This is the state that produces ever-ripe mangosteen, impossibly, all year long. Logistics companies do not yet have to verify the content of air cargo, but legislation is coming to change that. Soon, false-bottom crates of ever-ripe mangosteen will be the order of the day.
There are many, many articles about the crime syndicates and crime lords of Johor, and even piracy in the Strait of Malacca by these same crime rings. One city is now said to be the fourth-most dangerous city for crime in the world. Rather than post all the links, here are two:

Two ships or three ships in the Bay of Bengal searching for MH370? Even that is not clear, but here are the two survey ships owned by the Bangladesh navy:

Also not clear if wiki and Facebook are incorrect on the Ronald H. Brown showing as part of the Bangladesh navy, or if the ship in question is merely similar to the Ronald H. Brown. Nothing is ever simple, is it?

Perhaps we can track the ships in the Bay of Bengal:
http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/
Nothing happening there. I assume the pink rectangles in the Indian Ocean off the west coast of Australia are prohibited from view.
In all likelihood, military vessels are blocked from view.
Unrelated background information.

I wanted to see how good the imagery from satellites is, especially along coastlines. Very impressive. Imagine how good it can be for those with the ability to zoom in closer and use special features.

Presumably they will find little maddie down there too?

Prelim report looks “odd”.
Ho Chi Minh ATC contact Kuala Lumpur re “no contact with the aircraft”.
Later Kuala Lumpur contact Ho Chi Minh saying “Malaysian Airlines Operations report from the data they have, the aircraft is okay and in Cambodian airspace”.
Bizarre indeed.
The ATC is responsible. It sees “no transponder” and “no communication” it then should act. This isn’t “over ocean” stuff. This is “controlled airspace”.
MAS Ops claim it was the Flight Forwarding System.
So ATC called the Company and ask “Do you know where your aircraft is” ??????
KL. MH370 handing over to HCM
HCM. He hasn’t called. We can’t call him. We can’t see him
KL. Me neither. I’ll ask MAS Ops
MAS Ops. It’s alright he’s in Cambodia.
KL. Don’t worry he’s in Cambodia.
HCM. He’s where ! WTF is he doing there
KL. MAS Ops why is he in Cambodia
MAS Ops. He’s alright I tell you.
KL.
Tick tock tick tick tick tock
KL. Hello is that KL S&R. We have an aircraft missing
KL/S&R. Okay we’ll scramble. When did it happen ?
KL. Er….four hours ago.
KL/S&R. Oh My Allah ! Where ????
KL. Er Cambodia.
KL/S&R Okay. Where was he heading ?
KL. Beijing
KL/S&R. WHAT !!!!!
KL. I new alright !
What a balls up.
