The Guardian will still do anything to oblige the war criminals who invaded Iraq. The Bitter Together campaign has crashed in the polls. It has done so because people are not stupid, and they can work out that the cold logic of the unionist argument boils down to an assertion that Scots are too stupid, work-shy and poor to make a success of running their own nation.
The Bitter Together campaign therefore sees a need to be getting over a “positive” message. How do you do that? Well you get that brilliant economist Gordon Brown, the man who gave the bankers years of your and my earnings so they can gamble and snort cocaine again, to make a speech. The speech says that Scots are too stupid, work-shy and poor – and Gordon added unhealthy – to pay their own pensions. Then, at the last moment, you tack on a paragraph at the end about “five positive reasons” to support the union. Then you get a pisspoor, press release regurgitating, salary pocketing mainstream media lickspittle like Severin Carrell to promote it under the heading “Scotland has ‘five big positives’ to staying in UK, Gordon Brown says.”
Despite the fact that the exact same paper ran the story about the exact same speech yesterday, but using the old “warns” meme. It is so obvious it is laughable.
I analyzed a few months ago the BBC’s state propaganda linking the words “independence” and “warning”. I can guarantee you, now that one backfired, that one month from today, I am going to be able to present a similar table of BBC stories which link the words “union”, “UK” and “positive”.
Brown was at Glasgow University I also object fundamentally to the hosting by universities of closed political rallies. Universities certainly should host political debate – that is a function of a university. But for a university to host a political function where nobody – including members of the University – who holds a contrary view is allowed near, is absolutely wrong and the antithesis of the function of a university. The fact that the public are not allowed in to key Bitter Together meetings, and that Brown is scared to accept questions other than from handpicked cronies, should alert people to the fact that his arguments do not stand much scrutiny.

The rest of Britain is ahead of Scotland on this one. Everyone working in the criminal justice system, judges, police, prison officers, must declare membership of secret societies. This the Scottish government, despite petitions, refuses to introduce and corruption is rife.

No it doesn’t. It boils down to the cold reality that the countries are two intertwined for independence to be workable or desirable. Scotland will never be independent, even if it votes for independence. Some face-saving deal for more devolution would be hatched if it came to it. I doubt it will come to it, though – I don’t think the Scots will vote Yes, simply because the economic uncertainties would be too great. People very rarely vote for seismic change when it might hit them in the wallets.
I certainly wouldn’t trust Salmond with my savings and pensions that’s for sure.
Oh, come off it Craig. Nobody thinks the Scots are too stupid, work-shy and poor to run an administration and if they do, they aren’t worth listening to whatever position they take on anything.
We are all living under a severe geographical constraint. England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales are never going to be independent of each other no matter how many parliaments we set up about the place. All that will do is cost working people taxes just to satisfy the fantasies of some petty megalomaniacs. The British Isles (including what is now the Irish Free State) are less than half the size of Texas. Nothing changes that except some kind of geological upheaval which will kill most of us anyway. So let’s face reality and get on with it. There are plenty of real issues coming down the pike without inventing expensive and fanciful distractions. Never mind Better Together or Worse Together; we are together and there’s nothing any of us can do about it.

Scottish independence: BBC suspends its CBI membership
One might ask why IS the BBC a member of the CBI? A pro-Tory and pro-city organisation that is anti-trade union and wedded to neo liberalism. It reveals why the BBC broadcasts like the Today programme are in the arms of the City of London.
‘The BBC has announced that it is to suspend its membership of the employers’ organisation the CBI.
A statement said the suspension would cover the period of the CBI’s registration as a supporter of the pro-UK Better Together campaign.
A number of organisations have said they will leave the CBI or suspend their membership because of its opposition to Scottish independence.
People in Scotland will vote on their country’s future in September.
The statement from the BBC came after pro-independence backer, Business for Scotland, had questioned why the BBC had not resigned.
The statement said: “In order to protect the BBC’s neutrality, the CBI and the BBC have agreed to suspend the BBC’s membership during the business group’s registration period under the terms of the Scottish Referendums Act 2013.”
John Cridland, CBI Director-General, said: “In order to protect the BBC’s neutrality, the CBI and BBC have agreed to suspend its membership during the business group’s registration period (30 May to 18 September) under the terms of the Scottish Referendum Act 2013.”
Several bodies have now quit the CBI after it registered with the Electoral Commission as a supporter of the campaign to keep the UK together.
The CBI said it was confident the “vast majority” of its membership agreed with its stance on independence.
The registration as a non-party participant allows it to spend up to £150,000 on campaigning during the regulated period from 30 May until the referendum on 18 September.’
