It’s much more to do with the collision of cold and hot, wet air masses, Sofia. Charge is generated in violent updrafts, and the lightning is the result of charge rebalancing either in the cloud or to ground when the potential gets high enough to ionise the air. Roughly speaking. Magnetism isn’t involved. Thunderstorms are generally localised on weather fronts, which is what you are seeing.

Is it true that electrical storms produce nitrogen? Someone was saying that it accounts for the massive increase in leaf and plant growth this year. I think it was the amount of winter rain.

An interesting research project here http://minerva.dtic.mil , “The Minerva Project, ”
I’m sure that it omnivorously devours this excellent website, news on FiFa, Brazil, Blair, Russia….

in search of….? not thunder, but ‘terrorism studies’ focussed on civil society response to events; producing hints to dot mil on how to deal with dissatisfied and dangerous populations all around the world, including the United States. The “terrorists” are involved in “the dynamics of social movement mobilisation and contagions”. I’d lay odds-on that many of the commentators here are part of the dot mil “problem”, (other than those who are posting here as part of the preliminary “answer” to how to solve this flagrant attack on the policies of the U.S., their allies and proxies)

    Ba’al.

Thanks for the explanation. I can get my brain around it in terms of the dynamics at lower levels but when I see the constantly raging twin storms in the ionosphere it brings to mind what I said about magnets. I just wonder if we’re missing something.

But back to earth…here’s an image of a terrorist using some of Putin’s high-tech communications equipment to report the destruction of the Glorious Ukrainian Army’s bread van…

And there was I thinking the real terrorists were in Washington and Kiev!

    @Fred re law, encryption, etc.:

If there was a strong suspicion that a criminal offence was/had been taking place, and a warrant is obtained, then that is a different matter, Just as agents of the state can open someone’s mail if they suspect a criminal offence is involved.

  • Ben-LA PACQUTE LO ES TODO

Sofia/Ba’al: Thanks for the ionosphere discharge stuff. It’s another arrow in my quiver for Electric universe theory which pairs well with String theory, the only viable (thus far) answer to Quantum Theory shortcomings.

  • Jemand

Sofia, I’m intrigued by your comment (pg.2) about having a plan to regale us with a “cock and bull story” about me and some “hoods” (of a kind I suspect I already know). Don’t let other’s rude interruption prevent you from telling us this story. I’m sure it will be interesting, and revealing, if not altogether true.

More reaction to the latest ‘benefit Britain’ programm depicting Gt. Yarmouth hard pressed benefit parents struggling to pay their 60,-mobile phone bill each month.

The person commenting calling himself Mick Castle, could be (is most likely) the councillor who was in charge of the shambles that is Gt. Yarmouth, hence his rather scurrillous attack on the ‘internet trolls’.
sadly he does not deal with the issues raised.

As for Brandon Lewis MP, who thinks that the over sixties firefighters should carry on firefighting, without being able to claim pensions earlier, he’s a twit.

Sofia …proof that the gods don’t really do thunderbolts otherwise we’d be able to use it to track the movements of the Walking Eagle. (Badly chosen word there, maybe “location” would be in better taste.)…

Or maybe “Walking” should have been “Wa*king”.
Wa*king Eagle. Or perhaps Wa*king Bagel.

  • Roundheads

Peacewisher, Why are you letting this Fred character badger you into condoning forced confessions? This password psychosis is an English idiocy that even the totalitarian USA does not share.

  • nevermind, viva beautiful football

Is that why bagels have holes, Winkeltoe? or is it just to make out its ‘w/holesome’? the bagel, that is.

Sorry to interrupt the lightning discussion but when Neville Chamberlain came back from Germany waving a piece of paper an bragging about having Herr Hitler’s signature he was not worldly-wise enough to know that you can never trust a fascist. Likewise Petro Porohsenko talked of a ceasefire for a few days but it did not last one. Not that it will affect BBC news watchers who do not know there is a civil war raging in Ukraine.

    http://nsnbc.me/2014/06/23/ukraine-shelling-continues-depite-cease-fire/

BBC viewers do not know that 50,000 people protested in London yesterday either.

I ask again what do we pay our licence fees for? If the BBC board is not up to the job it should go.

“If there was a strong suspicion that a criminal offence was/had been taking place, and a warrant is obtained, then that is a different matter, Just as agents of the state can open someone’s mail if they suspect a criminal offence is involved.”

Do you know of a case where someone who was not being investigated for a criminal offence has been required to reveal an encryption key? Or one where a warrant was not obtained?

  • John Goss

The most worrying aspect of the BBC not reporting Ukraine is that is exactly the same stance they took in the run up to the Iraq war at the time when NATO was enforcing no-fly zones. At that time I heard an Iraqi doctor telling of all the civilian casualties, a mix of men women and children, just like in Ukraine.

  • Sofia

    Winkletoe.

“Wa*king Eagle”. LOL. But a disgraceful smear on all wa*kers!

    Ba’al. 2 12pm

Thanks for rising to the challenge of educating me.

    Will check out Electric Universe.

Whether we fully understand what’s is going on or not it surely justifies the term “awesome”t .

Will homo sapiens sapiens (Ha!) learn to cherish the Earth and thrive?

Seems to me we could learn a thing or two from the disposessed of the earth.

    Jemand. 2 30pm

Re slandering you to lie my way out of a corner. I promise I’ll work on it and have it ready to cover my next cock-up. 🙂

It never ceases to amaze me how slavish these English have become. Here’s Fred offering to spill everything he’s thought of for the last several years at his monarch’s demand. Pathetic, how a people can be gelded.

  • fred

    @Roundheads

That’s twice I’ve seen you maligning me.

If it happens again the gloves come off.

    Fair warning.

  • Roundheads

How very fearsome! Disembodied voice Fred punches above his cognitive weight, one presumes. Quintessentially British, this business of tough talking, though it works in real life only when you can hide behind Nanny America’s skirts, Nicht wahr?

  • fred

    @Roundheads

Fuck off you pathetic little shit. Obnoxious little slimeball turds like you are a waste of space apart from serving as an example of why close relatives shouldn’t get married.

  • Roundheads

    Well wasn’t that cathartic!

Now give me your password, or I’ll take it.

I forgot about the rocks in that harbor Ba’al

But there are fish down there. Mainstream science is dismissive and don’t even care to drop a line.

Free will versus Determinism seems to be a major issue for them. ( string versus quantum)
