Gaza Genocide Promoter Baroness Cox – Dundee University Must Withdraw Honorary Degree 218

Baroness Cox is a prominent supporter of organisations which actively and openly promote the ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians from Gaza. She was incredibly given an Honorary Degree by the University of Dundee in 2006. I call on the students and academic staff of Dundee University to campaign to have this award stripped from her.

It is a matter of shame to me that my University has honoured a woman whose primary political activity is as a promoter of genocide.

Baroness Cox’s support for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians is persistent and consistent. She is the deputy head of the Presidium of the Jerusalem Summit, an organisation which states that:

“The establishment of a Palestinian state must be removed from the political agenda”

The Jerusalem Summit calls for the deportation of all Palestinians from Gaza.

This is not an accidental association of Baroness Cox. She also is a key member of the Israeli Institute of Strategic Studies, which also calls prominently for the ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians from Gaza:

“The only durable solution requires dismantling Gaza, humanitarian relocation of the non-belligerent Arab population, and extension of Israeli sovereignty over the region.”

This is not an issue of freedom of speech. Genocide is in process in Gaza today. To support genocide is not a legitimate academic position within the realm of free debate. Dundee University must end its honouring of Baroness Cox, or be seen as endorsing the legitimacy of her views, which all decent people find obnoxious.

amazing how Israel has attacked Gaza three times since Obama was elected to the Presidency. For those interested in the theory that people who upset the great and the good are likely to end up in a scandal – usually sexual – this might be of interest:

Russell Brand is currently in the midst of a big set-to with Fox News presenter Sean Hannity, calling him a terrorist after Hannity had mercilessly bullied a Palestinian on air, calling him a thick head and cutting him off after he had refused to say “Yes” to the question “Is Hamas a terrorist organisation?” Brand did a video blog on this interview which has since gone viral with over 1.8 million views on Youtube:

The following press release this morning gives the Hamas military wing’s explanation of how the ceasefire was broken and what may have happened to the (allegedly) kidnapped Israeli soldier….

    http://occupiedpalestine.wordpress.com/2014/08/01/gazaunderattack-press-release-al-qassam-brigades-regarding-breach-of-truce-and-alleged-capture-of-israeli-soldier/

    http://www.alqassam.ps/arabic/#!/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%A7%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%AA/5106/

The Zionist Enemy violated the humanitarian ceasefire yesterday, Friday, 1 August 2014, by moving forces to the East of Rafah, the continued artillery shelling, and the deployment of snipers on many fronts in the Gaza Strip. In addition, Enemy Forces committed a terrible massacre against civilians in Rafah, killing dozens; and the killing of Palestinian civilians continues. The Zionist Enemy claims the disappearance of one soldier. In this regard, Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades, after conducting an internal review in the relevant circumstances, affirms the following:

1- Zionist Enemy Forces used the talks about a humanitarian ceasefire to advance troops more than two kilometers inside the Gaze Strip to the east of Rafah. Our assessment is that one of our deployed ambushes clashed with the advancing troops. The clash started around 7:00 am., before the humanitarian ceasefire. Enemy artillery and air force directed its fire on civilians after 10:00 a.m. in a flagrant violation of the ceasefire, under the pretext of searching for a missing soldier.

2- We lost contact with the troops deployed in the ambush; and assess that these troops were probably killed by enemy bombardment, including the solider said to be missing, presuming that our troops took him prisoner during the clash.

3- Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades has no information till this moment about the missing soldier, his place, or the circumstances of his disappearance.

4- We informed the mediators who participated in arranging the humanitarian ceasefire of our agreement to cease fire against Zionist cities and settlements; and that we cannot operationally cease fire against troops inside the Gaza Strip that conduct operations and move continuously. These Enemy Forces could easily come in contact with our deployed ambushes, which will lead to a clash.

I’m not sure why the definition of kidnap doesn’t include soldiers i.e.

“abduct (someone) and hold them captive, typically to obtain a ransom.”

Past experience shows that is absolutely what Hamas does with those it captures.

I again note how most here continue to assume that only fallibility for this conflict lies with the Israeli Govt (that is apart from the anti-semites who seek to blame the whole religion). Surely this view is infantile and contributes nothing whatsoever to a resolution – only the otiose or those with an incurable bloodlust will believe that this mess will be resolved without recognising that both sides have valid arguments and that both have acted improperly in support of those arguments.

    Oh, OK.

As they were immediately preceded by the words “Cambridge University is also very Zionist” one might be forgiven for thinking that they were offered proof if that claim.

So why don’t you just retract graciously (of you can find that within you) and say something like “there are some people at Cambridge who are demonstrably Zionist” That would be more accurate, wouldn’t it?

The answers to your two questions are (1) none, and (2) none.

Now that I’ve answered your questions, perhaps you’d answer mine : have you, or have you not, written to the rector of Dundee University to protest about Baroness Cox? And if not, why not?

Mary – A completely plausible picture emerges.

Hamas carried out the operation before the ceasefire deadline, as they said.

The Israelis then are missing a soldier. They have their “Hannibal Directive”, to get the soldier back whatever. Breaking the ceasefire coming into force would be a trifling matter to them. They carry out a bombardment, killing dozens of civilians, and possibly it seems their own soldier.

  • je

And they can always lie about the timings. The Americans always believe them right….

Well, RD, you know that I most often agree with your points of view, but I don’t on the above. There is a localised war going on and the captured/missing soldier can only be considered to be a POW (unless already dead). The appellation “kidnapped” is a tendentious distraction.

And for “ransom” one could also – perhaps should – read “exchange of prisoners” during or at the end of hostilities, something not entirely unheard of in previous, more conventional wars.

  • Resident Dissident

    Habba

The point I was trying to make is that Hamas do not really consider those that they capture as POWs but as bargaining tokens, often for those who by stretch of the imagination would normally be considered POWs.

Here’s the full text of the deleted Times of Israel post backing genocide in Gaza

The English-language Israeli publication Times of Israel today published, and then quickly deleted, a blog post by the writer Yochanan Gordon with the extremely inflammatory headline “When Genocide is Permissible.” The post does not explicitly endorse the genocide of Palestinians, but it asks if doing so would be morally justified after building up the case it would be and presenting only evidence in the affirmative

These terrible happenings in Gaza (and the so called West Bank too let’s not forget) are ongoing as politicians, dignitaries and minor royals stand around ‘remembering’ WW1. They have remembered nothing and have learnt even less. The Palestinians have been waiting for justice these last 66 years.

He warns that ‘to be informed by it is not an option’ because of censorship, omission and distortion of the facts. Whilst other stories overtake it, we find out the death toll in Libya is still rising. We discover why illegal immigrants were prevented from smuggling themselves OUT of Britain. We look at whether Cameron is privatising the NHS by selling it to doctors and nurses. And as the IDF offensive on Gaza continues, are media attitudes softening whilst those of the government harden?

Its unnecessary speculation to suggest that the Israelis delibrately killed their soldier rather than may have inadvertently killed him.

We know so little about his fate to begin with. But I’d imagine the sympathies of his fellow soldiers would have been with him – to get him back alive. We know the Israelis are psychopathic enough already, with what they do to the Palestinians in plain view. We don’t need to speculatively invent another layer to it.

The daily log of atrocities in Occupied Palestine is very out of date. They cannot keep up I assume and the lack of electricity in Gaza prevents communication.

Zionism in practice – Israel’s Daily Toll on Palestinian Life, Limb, Liberty and Property

    24 hours to 8am
    23 July 2014

120 air strikes – 79 attacks (50 in Gaza Strip +29 in West Bank) – 20 raids including home invasions – 1 beaten and hospitalised – 83 dead (83 in Gaza Strip +1 in West Bank) – 543 injured (530 in Gaza Strip +13 in West Bank) – 3 acts of agricultural/economic sabotage – 16 taken prisoner – 9 detained – 106 restrictions of movement

Israeli air strikes kill 10 children and 13 women

Missile strikes by Israeli Army and Navy kill 14 children and youngsters aged 18 months to 17 years

West Bank: Israeli Army rubber-coated bullets and stun and tear gas grenades cause death and injuries

Armed Occupation settler terrorist shoots and wounds Palestinian man

Night peace disruption and/or home invasions in refugee camp and 16 towns and villages

Details and the names of those killed: http://www.sapienspromise.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3214

    Just on one day remember.

  • nevermind, it will happen anyway

Have you all written to the rector of Dunbdee yet? and now, you unruly eminences, sic, you must write one hundred times’ Gaza is a concentration camp and soldier Goldin has drowned in his muesli, it was a very strong current’

He knew what he went to Gaza for and what he died for if he’s dead, a militarist rogue UN enclave that failed to live in peace with its neighbours and steals their land, for 66 years, what honourable death indeed.

And if he’s not dead yet, as an officer, he is a bargaining chip of considerable leverage, he will be better fed and watered than any of the ancious and chased thousands of victims squeezed into UN schools, hospitals and cellars.

I hope that another thousand Palestinins, children and Parliamentarians will be released from prison in exchange. Moderates such as Marwan Barghouti do not belong in jail, they need to be on the negotiating team.
By imprisoning these moderate and able people, Israel has manifested its own insecurity of resolve, iot does not want to speak to a united Palestinian delegation and face the music.

So here we are, USUK Governments are siding with ongoing evil, perpetuating a modern crusade of genocide of a people, assisting Israel in driving the Palestinians into the sea, rather than mean Gaza to be a self copntrolled regional entity, trading with the world.

I will never again buy anything knowingly that comes from Israel, even if they declare a unilateral ceasefire and go back to the status quo. This conflict has gone on too far and for too long to be postponed or patched up again, so Israel will put three fingers up to Obama, who so obviously has no control over US arms exports to fascists, another lame duck fuck.

    “Resident Dissident
The point I was trying to make is that Hamas do not really consider those that they capture as POWs but as bargaining tokens, often for those who by stretch of the imagination would normally be considered POWs.”

If you had one million pounds of lottery money in the bank, and one hundred pounds in you pocket, and the bank wouldn’t give you your money, what would you do with the money in your pocket?

Israel used to have 10,000 historical Palestinian prisoners in its jails and thousands of children. I don’t know what the current figures are, but they are all political detainees taken under conditions of ongoing war.

The whole Israeli concept is made up of bargaining chips.

The Western politicians held to ransom by the threat of dirty nuclear bombs in their capitals, the zionist banksters threatening to bring down their economies, Israeli control of their countries’ nuclear, security, infrastructure and political institutions. The political prisoners taken under illegal Israeli laws, illegal under the Geneva Convention on Occupied territories.

Then the Hasbara trolls like you accuse the Palestinians of causing the problems, by using the 100 quid in their pocket to buy food to stay alive, until the world comes to its senses and takes action against the Zionist entity that is strangling not only Gazans but the whole world into submission.

The time will come when the Muslims release the world from the noose of the Zionist scaffold and you will be saying, as Baroness Cox has said and Robespierre used to say, that we preferred the yoke of tyranny which gave us our little niche of power.

No politicians in the world have so far been able to stand up and defend Gaza against Zionist global tyranny during this episode in Gaza. Not one. But when the Palestinians take one prisoner you get scared and call for them to be executed as ‘enemies of the revolution’.

    Get very scared.

July 20 – Jerusalem Post – Reggae star Ziggy Marley rejects calls to boycott Israel
Online pressure to boycott Israel didn’t dissuade reggae star Ziggy Marley from performing in Tel Aviv Tuesday night or on Thursday at the Return to Zion festival at Sacher Park in Jerusalem.
“People say, don’t disgrace your father’s name by going to Israel and all these type of things,” the eldest son of the late musical icon Bob Marley said at a press conference Tuesday at the Sheraton Hotel in Tel Aviv, referring to the negative responses he saw on Facebook and other sites upon publication of his Israel tour dates.
“What I tell them is that, listen, I follow nature, I follow the universe, I follow God. I’m not a part of the segregation that people put on each other … I’m a part of nature and God, and God made the sun shine for everybody.”
This isn’t Marley’s first visit to Israel, both as a performer and visitor. His wife is Israeli and he said his young children speak Hebrew. ..
