I am not a Pacifist 173

I am an anti-militarist. But I believe violence in defence can be justified. The Israeli mass killings by bombing in Gaza are absolutely unjustified. I also oppose the random and ineffective rockets being fired from Gaza into Israel. But when Israeli ground troops actually move into Gaza, it is my sincere hope that the Palestinians kill as many as are necessary to stop them. That is justified, legal and necessary.

Chomsky, Pilger and Loach call on BBC to reflect reality of Gaza’s occupation
    July 14, 2014

Noam Chomsky, John Pilger and Ken Loach are among more than 40,000 signatories who have signed an open letter to the BBC calling on its journalists to reflect the reality of Gaza’s occupation while reporting on Israel’s current assault.

MPs have also signed the letter which will be delivered to the BBC tomorrow (15th July) during a protest outside its Portland Place, London, headquarters.

The letter reminds the BBC that Israel is bombing a refugee population which is being held under occupation and siege. It is a population which has no army, navy or air force with which to defend itself against the fourth largest military power in the world.

Sarah Colborne, Director of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which will be delivering the letter, said: “These are simple facts, none of which have been present in any of the BBC’s coverage so far of Israel’s assault on Gaza.

“However, they are vital facts and their absence results in BBC coverage which is unbalanced and lacking in context. Their omission allows the BBC to present Israel’s assault as a retaliation to Palestinian rockets rather than as an enforcement of its occupation and siege.

“Truly unbiased journalism would allow its consumers to consider both options instead of presenting them with just one viewpoint, as the BBC is doing.”

Protests took place outside BBC studios in Nottingham and Manchester on 10th July, and in Bristol on 11th July, demanding balanced reporting from BBC journalists.

Tuesday’s protest at Portland Place will call on the BBC to report the truth about Israel’s occupation and siege on Gaza, instead of concealing facts from its audiences. It will take place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

PSC’s letter to the BBC can be viewed here: http://www.palestinecampaign.org/sign-open-letter-bbc/ It will be addressed to the BBC’s Director General, Lord Hall.

The letter will remain on the website after Tuesday, allowing more people to sign. New signatures will be delivered to the BBC next week.

That was this morning. Blair to save world tomorrow: back to Cairo with Kerry. Think we can assume the Zionists are thinking of having a pause – he wouldn’t want to be near truce negotiations if they were going to mean more bad publicity. And his little sidie for Morsi would hit the rough if the Israelis had simply told him to piss off.

Main problem is that it’s maybe 180-nil, well short of the usual Israeli scoreline. Maybe they’ll make it up to 300 some other way.

Sisi takes his orders from America, and America takes theirs from Israel when it comes to the Middle East.

Jessie Yasmin Duarte 61, deputy sectary-general of South African ruling party ANC and former special assistant to Nelson Mandela has compared the Jewish army’s current actions in Gaza with Nazi army’s actions against Jews in Germany during the Second World War.

On Friday, Chief Rabbi of South Africa, Warren Goldstein, objected to Duarte’s comment and demanded that ANC force her to retract her statement which she has refused to do so far. The Rabbi blamed her for destroying “South African dream”, and asked her to debate with him on her accusations against the Zionist entity.

As expected, America’s highest paid (over $600,000 per year) Israeli lobbyist, Abraham Foxman, strongly condemned Duarte’s statement – calling it “irresponsible and unacceptable”.

Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi called upon Pretoria government to cut all diplomatic relations with racist Israel.

Nazi Germany is the best comparison to Zionist Israel.

Disagree. Certainly Gaza has obvious parallels with the Warsaw Ghetto, and arguably the Zionists think of themselves as racially superior to the people they’re repressing but I don’t think that the charge sticks very well in detail. Much closer to the truth, I think, would be the equation with apartheid South Africa, stated here:

“They {the Israelis}would expel, kill, take houses and towns and demolish them to build what they want to on top of them.”

“They wouldn’t – we are talking about Gaza here.”

You are wrong as usual Habbabkuk. Israel wants Gaza as much as it wants Judea and Samaria.

    Tweet from Frankie Boyle yesterday…

Israel say civilians are being killed because they’re living near terrorists and, to be fair, they are living stupidly close to Israel.

    Very depressing breaking news.

Gaza conflict: Israel restarts air strikes amid rocket fire.
Israel has resumed its air strikes on Gaza after its brief ceasefire was met with continuing rocket fire.

Israel had earlier accepted an Egyptian truce proposal for the conflict and stopped operations on Tuesday morning.

However, the armed wing of Hamas, which controls Gaza, rejected the initiative as a “surrender”.

Palestinian officials say at least 192 people have been killed by Israeli air strikes launched eight days ago to stop militants firing rockets into Israel.

By Conscientious objectors against the occupation
Right now, anti-war activists are creating a traffic jam in Ayalon South Highway, Tel Aviv, and are hanging banners on Yitzhak Sade bridge in protest of the war on Gaza which claimed the lives of 165 people. The banners call: “Gaza’s blood is on our hands”, “25 children killed” and “Stop the killing in Gaza”. The activists are slowing down their cars while driving on the highway and are creating a traffic hindrance in order to attract the attention of the drivers to the reality in the Gaza strip, where people have been living in the past five days under a concrete threat – without proper shelters or sirens. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 165 people, including 25 children and 17 women

    Je
Their Demographic nightmare has already come true. There are already more Palestinians in the lands Israel controls than Jews.
    What does that mean?
Israel is no longer a democracy?
    Israel is no longer Jewish?
    Does anyone care?
    Does it make any difference?
What changed a couple of years ago when 1 baby was born resulting in one more Palestinian in the lands Israel claims than the number of Jews?
    Did anything change at all?
Or now when there is at least 100 000 more Palestinians than Jews in that area?
So what makes anyone think that when there is a million more something would change?
    Or even 10 million.
Instead Israel will carry on doing what it is doing in Gaza to try and change that. And when they are not doing what they are doing in Gaza they will carry on doing what they are doing in pre-67 borders and the West Bank to try and make life so hard that many will leave and live in some other country.

  • Mary

Very depressing to hear that the Israelis have resumed air attacks, attacks from the sea and from the border. Hamas say that they were not provided with any documents or details about a truce and in the absence of undertakings that the shelling and bombing would stop, they are carrying on.

BLiar is on Sky News from Jerusalem at 4.15pm today if anyone is at all interested.

“when Israeli ground troops actually move into Gaza, it is my sincere hope that the Palestinians kill as many as are necessary to stop them. That is justified, legal and necessary.”

    So say we all.

  • Keith Crosby

“I don’t think that is practical, or desirable. Peace is going to have to be based on people being broadly where people are, but ending the racial and religious segregated states. Just as the solution in South Africa was not to send the white people to Europe.”

No this is more of the same, outsiders dictating to the rightful owners of Palestine, which is the cause of the trouble. The UN donating Palestine to the zionist terrorists was no different to the British and French states donating Sudentenland to the Germans or the Hoare-Laval Pact (cancelled). It’s a matter for the Palestinians to decide, although if any of the colonial usurpers come from Hull, I might put in a word for them on grounds of common humanity.;O)

  • Abe Rene

You really think the Palestinians can stop an Israeli invasion? I fear that all that would result would be a massacre of Gazans. Firing rockets into Israel may make some people feel better, but is likely to do more harm than good, and I mean to Palestinians. Political action may be the only sure way to long-term progress.
