Do not be deceived. The murdered innocents of Gaza are not those who are really suffering. It is the liberal Jews like Hadley Freeman, victims of the new anti-Semitism.
Israel is a state openly founded on racist and theocratic grounds, in which Jews have an absolute right to live in Israel, wherever in the world they were born and their families have been for centuries, and nobody else does. The unfortunate pre-1946 occupants of the land have been mostly driven out into refugee camps, including in Gaza, while religiously motivated settlers continue apace to grab the best Palestinian land and water. The state does this for them precisely and explicity because they are Jewish. Those non-Jews who remained in Israel proper are subject to a whole raft of apartheid style legislation, even governing whom they may marry, and the quantity of this legislation is increasing. 140 Israeli laws specify treatment by race.
Israel is as a state entirely based and run on a racist premise. Its very foundation is racist. But while the Israeli state may steal land specifically for Jews, make provision for Jews, and make life difficult for non-Jews, anybody else who mentions Jews in the context of Israeli behaviour is a vicious racist and anti-Semite. This warped and ludicrous logic is enforced by political orthodoxy and the mainstream media.
It is as though, in opposing apartheid, it was taboo to mention it had been invented for the benefit of white people.
Reading Freeman’s long self-pitying self-centred whinge I was waiting to find out what had actually happened to her to occasion some distress. Had she had a brick through her window? Had she been assaulted in the street? Has somebody hurled racial abuse at her?
Apparently none of the above. It appears that she feels under unfair pressure to denounce the actions of Israel. And- horror of horrors – the Tricycle Theatre has cancelled a Jewish Film Festival in Kilburn because it was financed by the Israeli Embassy. Oh no, the agony! How can a poor girl survive in a North London which is so rife with anti-Semitism! It reminded me forcefully of the very first diplomatic social engagement of my professional career, in 1985 when our Afrikaaner hostess held forth on how she thought people looked down on her in Harrods.
I deplore racism with every part of my being, all racism. Freeman makes what is intended to be a smart observation that the Tricycle’s act “reminds me how very far I am from the States”. It is very plain that she regrets that and believes that the US attitude to Israel is better than the British one.
This then morphs into the meme that the reaction to the Gaza massacre is part of a wave of the “new anti-Semitism”. There have indeed been several deplorable anti-Semitic incidents in Europe in the last few months. But they have killed absolutely nobody in the last two years, while Israel has killed 1,500 people. There have been three terrible examples of racial murders of Jews in the past eight years, and there needs to be continued and unremitting vigilance against all hate crime. The disruption of Hadley’s cinema treats and the daubing of paint on a synagogue are in themselves bad things. But do they really compare to the massive disproportionate force being used to destroy over 1,000 women and children in a month in Gaza, and the context of the entire seventy year programme of ethnic cleansing and genocide of the Palestinian people?
You are right, Hadley. Just because you are Jewish does not mean you should be under special pressure to condemn Israel’s actions. But if you take it upon yourself to write a long article on the subject, we are entitled to expect you – as a human being – to condemn the massacre. And as in the article you write about nothing but your own angst and the evils of anti-Semitism, and manage not a single word of sympathy or regret for the victims of the terrible massacre in Gaza, we are entitled to form our own opinion.
And my opinion is that you are a wholly self-centred and self-regarding little person with an abject lack of moral perspective, who seems to think the murder of 1500 people is about the impact on your feelings.
Hadley, you are not disgusting because you are Jewish: you are just a disgusting human being.
Hashtag Genocide: Why Gaza Fought Back
by Ramzy Baroud / August 12th, 2014
http://dissidentvoice.org/2014/08/hashtag-genocide-why-gaza-fought-back/
‘References to genocide and extermination and other devastatingly violent language are no longer “claims” levied by Israeli critics, but a loud and daily self-indictment made by the Israelis themselves.
The Israelis are losing control of their decades-long hasbara, a propaganda scheme so carefully knitted and implemented, many the world over were fooled by it. Palestinians, those in Gaza in particular, were never blind to Israel’s genocidal intentions. They assembled their resistance with the full knowledge that a fight for their very survival awaited.
Israel’s so-called Protective Edge is the final proof of Israel’s unabashed face, that of genocide. It carried it out, this time paying little attention to the fact that the whole world was watching. Trending Twitter hashtags which began with #GazaUnderAttack, then #GazaResists, quickly morphed to #GazaHolocaust. The latter was used by many that never thought they would dare make such comparisons.
Gaza managed to keep Israel at bay in a battle of historic proportions. Once its children are buried, it will once again rebuild its defenses for the next battle. For Palestinians in Gaza, this is not about mere resistance strategies, but their very survival.’

B’Tselem publish initial figures of Gaza death toll
Initial figures: At least 1,767 Palestinians killed by day’s end on 10 Aug. 2014; two Israeli civilians, one foreign national and 64 Israeli soldiers killed during same period
According to B’Tselem’s initial figures, at least 1,767 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip and Israel from the time the fighting began through 10 Aug. 2014. The fatalities include:
431 minors (one minor participated in the hostilities);
200 women (under age 60);
85 persons aged 60 and over.
During the same period two Israeli civilians, one foreign national and 64 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Israel and the Gaza Strip.
* * *
The figures B’Tselem collected regarding the number of Palestinians killed in the course of the fighting in the Gaza Strip are very preliminary and incomplete, and are still being cross-referenced and checked. In addition, we have not included certain incidents in these figures because neither the precise number of people killed nor their identity is yet known to B’Tselem. This situation is partly because not all bodies have been extricated from the rubble and identified. In the months ahead, B’Tselem plans to further investigate the incidents, including confirming the identity of the individuals killed and whether or not they took part in the hostilities. According to the spokesperson for Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 1,939 Palestinians have been killed from the launching of the Israeli offensive through 10 August 2014.

What is always amazing to me, when talking with other jews about Israel, is, for all their smarts, degrees, and accomplishments, they are utterly incapable of seeing that it’s about Israel’s policies and not “the jews” that arouses such intense opposition; and the stubborn refusal for any any kind of soul searching. It’s also the intense knee-jerk tribalism that kicks in due to the total education we get as children that the whole world hates us.
Something else about Anthony Reuben. Not only has he seemingly no statistics qualifications but his degree wasn’t in journalism either. It was a BA Hons, Philosophy, Politics and Economics. But he got a summer internship with the Jerusalem Post.
So he wasn’t just an intern there – his whole journalistic career looks thanks to that Zionist rag.
On Monday, United Nations Humana Rights Council (UNHRC) named a panel of three legal experts to investigate possible war crimes committed by the Jewish army in Gaza Strip.
Tel Aviv, however, rejected the enquiry as UNHRC “kangaroo court”.
The panel is headed by an internationally renowned Canadian lawyer, professor William Schabas, who teaches internal law at Middlesex University in England, and is on editorial board of the Israel Law Review.
William Schabas appointment is criticized by Canada’s pro-Israel gay foreign minister John Baird and Geneva-based Israeli advocacy Jewish group UN Watch. Both have accused Dr. Schabas being anti-Israel and a Jew hater.
The other two members of the panel are Doudou Diene, a Senegalese veteran UN human rights expert and Amal Alamuddin, a British-Lebanese lawyer. Amal Alamuddin, is engaged to pro-Israel Hollywood Jew actor and anti-Sudan campaigner George Coolney. She has declined UNHRC offer.

UN Specialist for Palestinian Rights Suspects Israel Committed War Crimes
An Interview with Richard Falk on the Crisis in Gaza
by KEN KLIPPENSTEIN
Richard Falk is an American professor Emeritus of International Law at Princeton University. He just completed a six-year term as United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights. He was appointed to this role by the UN Human Rights Council, in 2008.

A friend, one of our group, sent this complaint to the BBC yesterday about that BBC London News item on alleged anti-semitism that I linked to above. Only available to view until 6pm today incidentally.
Complaint title: Emphasis on London’s Jewish population
Complaint description:
This is not a complaint about lack of balance in this one specific programme. I know you reject all such, saying balance is achieved “over time and across the board”. My complaint is that this sort of emotional appeal on behalf of one faith community is restricted on the BBC to Jews. Here three prominent Jewish voices appeal for understanding how the Palestine-Israel “conflict” affects London’s Jewish population.
Across the board and over time there are simply no such appeals on behalf of our Muslim communities. Do Muslims not feel threatened by the rising Islamophobia in the UK? Are they never targeted in the streets?
Rabbi Marcus smeared Saturday’s London marchers with the charge of anti-Semitism. Why was he allowed to do this? He implied that the march deliberately went past the door of the Synagogue. He said the people in the Synagogue were told to stay inside and yet he claimed to have witnessed anti-Semitic slogans in the march. Did the BBC try to verify his allegations? I cannot believe that he saw banners saying “Hitler was right” being used by the Stop the War or PSC protesters shown in your video clip.
This kind of report further blurs the distinction between “Israeli” and “Jewish” and between Jewish and Zionist. Why do you never interview Jews for Justice for Palestinians? The demonstration was not against Jews but against Israeli policies. The BBC reporter should have pointed that out, since none of the biased speakers acknowledged that important difference?
Someone from the Jewish community was on R4 again this morning complaining about anti-semitism while giving a nausiating defence of Israel and the IDF.
Precisely the kind of thing which adds fuel to the “anti-semitism” he’s complaining about. Clearly not getting why appologism for slaughter makes other people angry.
If the BBC had the Jewish voices who condemn the Gaza massacre on talking about it instead – people would be made more clear about the distinction. That would counter whatever proportion of it is really anti-semitism.
Zionism=Jew and you’re self-hating otherwise is one of the Zionist’s own lies.
I think this is wishful thinking by the author that the US will send hospital ships to treat the wounded children and people of Gaza. They could and they should but they won’t.

Interview with Chief Rabbi:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04d4rbh @ 1:36:19 six minutes duration
Evan Davies: The Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, is with us in the studio. Good morning.
Ephraim Mirvis: Good morning Evan.
ED: Have you noticed, clocked or observed this trend in greater anti-Semitic activity in the UK?
EM: There’s no sense of panic, but there is a lot of anxiety. Only during the last hour the Jewish Chronicle revealed that in a straw poll conducted amongst British Jews, when asked the question whether during the last month they had considered their future in this country, 63 per cent replied yes. Now, while this was taken only amongst 150 respondents…
ED: Self-selecting respondents, or were they random respondents?
EM: [laughs] I don’t know, I wasn’t responsible for….. No, no….
ED: Because if they’re self-selecting it’s absolutely….
EM: No, I don’t believe that that was the case. And during a period of heightened anxiety none-the-less if we ignore such an indicator we do so at our peril. There’s a huge amount of anxiety and also the figures tell a story. During the first six months of this year there were 304 reported anti-Semitic incidents, which in itself is very serious, and an increase of 36 per cent compared with the previous year. In the month of July alone, well over 200 incidents were reported. That means more than four times the monthly average. We’ve seen significant increase of anti-Semitic conduct on the Continent, which is particularly worrying in a number of countries, and this has been
reflected to a smaller extent but a worrying extent here in the UK.
ED: There’s been a lot of passion, hasn’t there? Joan Rivers, comedian, did you see the comments she made?
EM: Yes, yes.
ED: What did you think of those? “They were told to get out; they didn’t get out; you don’t get out, you’re an idiot,” she said. “At least the ones – she’s talking about the Palestinians – at least the ones that were killed were ones with low IQs.” What did you think of that?
EM: Well, from what we are seeing, Israel elicits probably deeper passions than any other country in the world. With regard to what has transpired since the beginning of July within our community, we’ve been very concerned for the future of Israel, which has faced daily firing of…..
ED: [interrupting] So, just to get this… before you go on… just on Joan Rivers: do you have any ambivalence about condemning her comments?
EM: We are filled with pain for the suffering of innocent civilians and I don’t think one should be flippant about such suffering, suffering civilians in Israel and in Gaza. And I think I speak for all of my community in expressing the pain and anguish that we feel.
ED: But you seem remarkably reluctant to just say that what Joan Rivers said was offensive in the same way people say……
EM: Well I….
ED: …. comments about the Jews are offensive. There’s a lot of offensive stuff being thrown around.
EM: I appreciate that. She’s not a representative of the Jewish community of the world. And I referred to that as being a flippant comment, and absolutely no offensive comments should be mentioned. Rather, though we are very much pained by what has been going on. However, the situation in the Middle East should not be used as an excuse for simply abominable and unacceptable conduct on the streets of our cities, which is exactly what’s happening.
ED: Do you, um… what is your view of what Israel has been doing? I mean, obviously there’s been…. the substance of anti-Semitism is separable here…. but what is your view of Israel’s policy? Would you have said it was proportional in response to the Palestinian rockets?
EM: Well, during this war it has been a truism that if Hamas would lay down its weapons there would be peace. If Israel would lay down its weapons there would be no Israel. Israel has faced a direct, unmasked attempt to destroy Israeli life with some three and a half thousand missiles being fired purposefully at population centres, and the Israeli Government has understandably and justifiably defended her citizens. And when it comes to proportionality….
ED: [interrupting] So, you seem…. Yep.
EM: Thanks to the Iron Dome we haven’t seen tens of thousands of casualties in Israel.
EM: So you think it basically is proportional, um? But it’s possible for people to disagree with that, and you would agree that it’s possible to be very critical of Israel without being anti-Semitic at all. Correct?
EM: Anti-Zionism is not necessarily anti-Semitism. However, anti-Zionism does create a context within which anti-Semitism can thrive. And this is exactly what we are seeing. Because we’ve always traditionally seen a hike in anti-Semitic behaviour when matters in the Middle East have served as a trigger point for anti-Semitic conduct.
ED: But it would be extremely unfortunate if Israel or anybody managed to close down debate about a policy which has seen one in a thousand of the Gazan population die in the last month. It would be unfortunate if the debate over that was closed down by the fear of people that they’re anti-Semitic for saying we don’t think you should kill that many Palestinians.
EM: I mentioned earlier that the loss of life of civilians causes us deep pain. Israel has conducted a war with the express purpose not of aiming its guns at civilians, which has been the case with regard to Hamas, but rather through wanting only to protect Israeli citizens, And unfortunately wars are not clean, wars are ugly, and in the midst of wars sometimes one can misfire, which has been the case. However, as I said earlier, the implications of what has been happening there is now spilling onto the streets in our cities, and we are deeply concerned with levels of anti-Semitism here. And we are not alone. Because reports from northern Iraq which you carried earlier in your programme, the suffering of the Christians and the Azidis there is simply unbearable and I’m horrified to hear what is happening there, and I certainly identify strongly with the Christians.
ED: Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, thank you very much. And I can confirm by the way that that poll wasn’t scientific but they were randomly approached, they weren’t self-selected.
The preceding segment with Davis and Wyatt Radio 4 Today. 14.8.2014
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04d4rbh @ 1:31:54 Five minutes duration
Evan Davies: One effect of the Israeli assault on Gaza in recent weeks has been felt here in the UK. The number of anti-Semitic incidents here is reported to have risen sharply, to one of its highest reported levels, with over 200 in July alone. The Community Security Trust advises synagogues and schools on safety and says incidents include Jews being accused of being child murderers or being told they are the new Nazis or that Hitler was right, a phrase which has been used frequently on Twitter. It’s led to an increased sense of threat to many Jews in the UK as well as in other countries across Europe. We’ll talk to the Chief rabbi in a minute, but first our religious affairs correspondent Caroline Wyatt has been to find out more:
Male voice: It’s a big cream building with Hebrew words on the outside, so it’s quite a prominent building in the area.
Caroline Wyatt: Gerald Weinstein is a member of the congregation of the Holland Road Synagogue in Brighton and Hove, He was shocked when he arrived recently to find “Free Gaza” graffitied in large letters just above the stained glass windows of his place of worship.
Weinstein: I thought to myself, what’s the synagogue got to do with what was going on in Gaza. I didn’t see the relevance of it. And it felt to me an anti-Semitic attack on our synagogue.
CW: [sounds of Hebrew prayer] Other members of the synagogue were just as horrified, like husband and wife Winston Picket and Fiona Sharp [names phonetic].
Picket: I just felt it was a slap on the face or a kick in the stomach. It made me sick. It is a different form of anti-Semitism. It’s the newest type of anti-Semitism. This time we’ve had in demonstrations placards saying ‘Hitler didn’t do the job’. And that, you wouldn’t have gotten 10 years ago. It seems to get worse and worse and worse every single time.
Sharp: The kind of underlying anti-Semitism that unfortunately I think has always been in British society rose to the top very quickly. It didn’t take very long before members of the Jewish community were being targeted for something that was going on in Israel. I’ve never felt as uncomfortable as I do now at any other time.
CW: At a cafe I meet Eylon Aslan-Levy [chairman of the National Council of the Union of Jewish Students and a member of the Board of Deputies of British Jews], who explains the Everyday Anti-Semitism Project, a website he started a few weeks ago to log and examine how anger at Israel’s actions is being expressed by anti-Jewish stereotypes in the UK.
Aslan-Levy: A lot of the anti-Semitism comes as much from the extreme far-right as from certain quarters in Muslim communities. And that means it’s very difficult for the Government to address this specifically as having a particular demographic provenance. Because it’s very touchy. They don’t want to be seen to be targeting a minority that is itself being picked on by the far right.
CW: In Leicester a leading figure in the Muslim Council of Britain, Sheikh Ibrahim Mogra, has been deeply involved in inter-faith dialogue between the UK’s Muslims and Jews. But the imam says that what’s been happening in Gaza has changed the dynamics of that relationship and that has to be addressed.
Mogra: I think we need to have a fresh look at Muslim-Jewish relations in our country. Palestine-Israel has to be now at the forefront of much of our discussion. My priority is maintaining good relations between British Muslims and Jews. But in light of the continuing wars in Palestine, I don’t believe we can carry on with business as usual. There has to be a shift. And I have already made suggestions to the Chief Rabbi.
CW: Many in the Jewish community agree that keeping that dialogue going is essential. Rabbi Danny Rich, Chief Executive of Liberal Judaism, has even sent a pastoral letter to his members offering advice on tackling an issue that’s left many deeply conflicted.
Rich: We don’t have a great say in what happens in Israel and Gaza. That’s for the Israelis and Palestinians to decide. But we do have a say in the type of society we want to create in this country. It has to be one where anti-Semitism is not tolerated in any community, Islamophobia is not tolerated, and we learn to live together with the type of British values of democracy, of moderation, dialogue, listening to each other, which is what I am seeking to promote. [sounds of Hebrew prayer]
Evan Davis: Caroline Wyatt there.

Mary – wasn’t scripted, no. On the standard of BBC R4 interviews actually one of the better ones. Evan Davies stuck with Joan Rivers for a bit. He could have used other more revealing comments by Israeli parliamentarians etc but that (fairly basic) level of background research, knowledge, and preparedness is beyond BBC news researchers. Not the kind of interview we’d like to see but about as best as you can expect from R4.

Tricycle Theatre in UK Jewish Film Festival U-turn
A theatre that refused to host the UK Jewish Film Festival (UKJFF) due to it being part-funded by the Israeli Embassy has now said it is prepared to stage the event in future years.
The Tricycle Theatre in north London was due to screen films in November but pulled out amid the conflict in Gaza.
Although this year’s festival will be hosted elsewhere, the theatre has withdrawn its objections.
It said it had invited back the UKJFF “with no restrictions on funding”.

The people complaining that the Jewish Chronicle shouldn’t have run the DEC Gaza charity are advertising for donations to MDA UK. According to that charities website:
“Unlike the UK, Israel has never had a Government run medical emergency and ambulance service. Instead, donors from around the world have always supported Magen David Adom, ensuring that the State is able to dedicate its own resources towards critical issues such as defence and security.”
So effectively its just like donating to the IDF. This is a first world country getting the rest of the world to pay for it’s ambulance service so it can buy the bombs it drops on Gaza.
And the UK give them charity status and charity tax relief.
