Meeting Livestream 376

The Fringe Meeting at which I am speaking will be livestreamed on Saturday from 12.30 on IndependenceLive.

Meanwhile, Emily has started her own blog.

I had a busy day today moving a lot of stuff to move into my new home in Edinburgh tomorrow. But I must briefly comment on a fascinating opinion poll by IPSOS/Mori tonight, which puts the Tories on 32 and Labour on 29 UK wide – and astonishingly the Lib Dems UK score of 9% only just ahead of the SNP’s UK wide score of 8%, even though the latter is concentrated entirely in Scotland. One reason that SNP figure is so high is that IPSOS MORI weight by certainty to vote, and are predicting a much higher turnout in Scotland than England at the next election.

The scenario leading straight to independence – a Tory/UKIP coalition at Westminster and a crushing SNP victory in Scotland – is looking increasingly probable. One thing I do not rule out at all is a unionist Con/Lab coalition in Westminster after the next general election. There are almost no real policy differences between them, and if coalition becomes the swiftest way to satisfy personal ambition for power and money on both sides (the only thing that drives both parties), I so not think it is in the least improbable. We have seen Lab/Con coalitions against the SNP in Dundee and Stirling Councils, and they were extremely happy together during the referendum campaign. I do not yet see a Lab/Con coalition as the most probable outcome of the next Westminster election. But it is entirely possible.

    Thanks for your reply Scotinorge, so you don’t like Britain and you don’t like the union, the BBC and or those who run it.

    I like people, pasta, peace and independent politics and thinkers who are able to do as they say. Have you got any likes before you tell us more of your dislikes.
    What possessed you to dare being mauled by our schoolmaster/gatekeeper here?….;)

  • MJ

    I think that Skotskinorge’s comments are much more interesting than those of his or her detractors.

    ^^^ Mary 15 Nov, 2014 – 12:22 pm: “Is this the right link for Craig?”

    Something’s not right. Your link and the one above from the mods are both playing a 2min13sec clip of the preparations for broadcasting. The event should now be live but I can’t find live footage.

    Anyone know what’s going on?

    [Craigmurray.Org.Uk: Hopefully it will go back live in time for Craig’s speech. Craig is due to speak in the next few minutes]

    Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleh Mahnitskiy said that Kiev intends to invite Israeli instructors to provide military training to Ukrainian armed forces.

    WASHINGTON, November 15 (Sputnik) — The United States is currently providing military training to Ukrainian armed forces, and Kiev intends to invite Israeli instructors as well, senior Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleh Mahnitskiy has told Sputnik.

    “There is Ukraine-US cooperation in this area and we thank our American partners for this cooperation,” Mahnitskiy said Friday at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, when asked about military training the United States is providing to Ukraine. He continued that he could not provide further details on the subject “because of considerations of national security and state secrets”.

    Have you noticed how the corporate media are portraying Putin at the G20? Lonely, miserable, isolated, etc…YCNMIU.

    The headlines are sufficient yet alone the images.

    eg

    G20: Canadian prime minister shirtfronts Vladimir Putin …
    http://www.theguardian.com

    Russia’s Putin has chilly reception at G20 in Australia CNN

    Cameron warns Russia over Ukraine David Cameron and Vladimir Putin BBC

    Putin is pushing off leaving the Bullingdon Boy and his best mates to have fun. What puerile leaders we have.

    Maybe, after this post by Brian F. on Squonk of a Mirror story showing satellite evidence that MH17 has been redirected by Kiev and shot down by a fighter jet of Yatseniuk’s Government, Craig would like to say something on Ukraine’s succession and whether we should let more violent fascists into the EU.
    Russia claims this to be western satellite photos

    Nevermind, the evidence/photo is a fake. Check the discussion from here onwards:

    ” …. and, no, I haven’t made a mistake. ”

    I think you have. Whilst the BBC shares information and news footage with Al Jazeera it has no editorial control over the station which is owned by those lovely kind hearted liberals the government of Qatar.

  • nevermind

    Thanks anode, so those who are operating the satellite have faked these pictures for the Russians, is that what you are saying, because they are not taken by a Russian satellite. why?

    Moreover has Kiev provided all the radar records from that day and offered it to the inspectors?

  • MJ

    The “satellite” image is nothing of the sort. It’s a photoshop job using google maps and stick on planes.

    Kiev however certainly appears to have a lot to hide given its reluctance to submit basic evidence.

  • nevermind

    Most callous policy move today.

    Poroshenko has issued a decree that from today nobody in Ukraine’s eastern region will receive any pay or pension. Schools, hospitals and emergency services are cut off receiving no wages or support in order to force the residing people to revolt and ‘change their mind’.

    As this is all done with our support in the west. Yatseniuk’s fascists will carry on with their killing spree amongst the civilians and then bury them in mass graves.

    That Israel is getting involved is not a surprise, they have been actively undermining Yanukovic as long as Obama has been at it, since 2004.

  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)

    Answers still outstanding from BonnyDarkThoughts for the following:

    “How many Israelis have died by choking on Palestinian olives, DonnyDarkSide?

    And how many Palestinians have been killed by Hamas?”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The first question was raised by Donny himself; the second is mine, in response to Donny asking how many Israelis had been killed by Hamas.
    If you’re out of Town this weekend, don’t worry, answers on Monday will do nicely.
    Kempe 15 Nov, 2014 – 1:32 pm : ”I think you have [made a mistake]. Whilst the BBC shares information and news footage with Al Jazeera it has no editorial control over the station which is owned by those lovely kind hearted liberals the government of Qatar.”
    No, no mistake.
    The BBC had lost all credibility in the Arab world so Al Jazeera was created to fill the gap. BBC Arabic Television supplied the staff. Tony Blair endorsed it. Its director general, Wadah Khanfar, resigned after being exposed by Wikileaks as a CIA agent.
     Really Kempe, you say, “the BBC shares information and news footage with Al Jazeera” and “is owned by …. the government of Qatar,” yet you pretend it is independent of Western influences. You’re  a laugh.
  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)
    Iain Orr
    “Habbabkuk: Would you not agree, however, that Mary deserves a long-service medal in the War against Mass Deception? See for instance her useful reminder at 4.17 pm on 13 November of Blair’s War against Madcow Disease.”
    ______________________
    Well, Iain, that would depend on what the citation said – it would have to read rather differently from the usual standard words.
    Actually, your choice of post (NB – she was posting about foot and mouth disease and not BSE…) does illustrates rather well one of the things which serve to devalue Mary and her offerings.
    Certainly it is mildly interesting and even amusing to have a reminder of Blair’s posturing during the foot and mouth crisis. But, you see, Mary’s reminder was linked to Ebola disease and Blair today. Now, Blair may well have been the bossman at the time of FMD, but he is not the bossman today and especially not wrt the Ebola crisis.
    So what is the point of Mary posting her reminder about Blair and foot and mouth? Is it merely to justify the little “quip” with which she starts her post, ie, “I’d like to see Blair suited up for Ebola”?
    If this is the justification, then – to return to your military analogy – Mary should perhaps be invalided out of the service. She’s had a good run and deserves a rest.
  • nevermind
    Ian Orr had the graciousness to converse with a man who has made no contributions and who’s disabled brain just does not want to let him rest.
    A very old calcified man who thinks he can berate newcomers at will, most likely due to the fact that he himself never had a seconds of free will in his whole life.
    So if you new here and would like to contribute, please ignore him and go ahead, the ol codger tries it on with everyone, cyber stalking is his speciality.
    I for one like Mary’s informative posts here, it saves me time and is more than likely relevant.
    This might be more relevant for our schoolmaster though, as he does not know how to google we have to help him now and then.
    Some great results with this procedure, just look at the before and after photos, so don’t get angry or arsey at other, you will get better, don’t worry.
    Add BLiar’s name to those of Bush and Cheney in this letter written by an American soldier who died last week aged 34.
    ‘Tomas Young’s Last Letter to Bush, Cheney
    by Ralph Nader / November 15th, 2014
    The courageous journey of seriously wounded Iraq War veteran, Tomas Young, ended this past Monday, nearly eleven years after he was ambushed in a wholly exposed military truck. He passed away in Seattle while being lovingly cared for by his wife Claudia.
    Tomas did not go quietly, despite his being paralyzed from the chest down, excruciating pain, comas and reliance on caregivers. He became an anti-war peace activist, addressing convocations and responding to as many interview requests as his agonized condition could tolerate.
    I write this letter on behalf of husbands and wives who have lost spouses, on behalf of children who have lost a parent, on behalf of the fathers and mothers who have lost sons and daughters and on behalf of those who care for the many thousands of my fellow veterans who have brain injuries… I write this letter on behalf of the some 1 million Iraqi dead and on behalf of the countless Iraqi wounded. I write this letter on behalf of us all—the human detritus your war has left behind, those who will spend their lives in unending pain and grief.
    I write this letter, my last letter, to you, Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney. I write not because I think you grasp the terrible human and moral consequences of your lies, manipulation and thirst for wealth and power. I write this letter because…I want to make it clear that I, and hundreds of thousands of my fellow veterans, along with millions of my fellow citizens, along with hundreds of millions more in Iraq and the Middle East, know fully who you are and what you have done. You may evade justice but in our eyes you are each guilty of egregious war crimes, of plunder and, finally, of murder, including the murder of thousands of young Americans—my fellow veterans—whose future you stole.
    Your positions of authority, your millions of dollars of personal wealth, your public relations consultants, your privilege and your power cannot mask the hollowness of your character. You sent us to fight and die in Iraq after you, Mr. Cheney, dodged the draft in Vietnam, and you, Mr. Bush, went AWOL from your National Guard unit. Your cowardice and selfishness were established decades ago…you sent hundreds of thousands of young men and women to be sacrificed in a senseless war with no more thought than it takes to put out the garbage.
    I joined the Army two days after the 9/11 attacks… I wanted to strike back at those who had killed some 3,000 of my fellow citizens. I did not join the Army to go to Iraq, a country that had no part in the September 2001 attacks and did not pose a threat to its neighbors, much less to the United States. I did not join the Army to “liberate” Iraqis or to shut down mythical weapons-of-mass-destruction facilities or to implant what you cynically called “democracy” in Baghdad and the Middle East…I especially did not join the Army to carry out pre-emptive war. Pre-emptive war is illegal under international law. And as a soldier in Iraq I was, I now know, abetting your idiocy and your crimes. The Iraq War is the largest strategic blunder in U.S. history…I would not be writing this letter if I had been wounded fighting in Afghanistan against those forces that carried out the attacks of 9/11…We were used. We were betrayed. And we have been abandoned. You, Mr. Bush, make much pretense of being a Christian. But isn’t lying a sin? Isn’t murder a sin? Aren’t theft and selfish ambition sins?…
    My day of reckoning is upon me. Yours will come. I hope you will be put on trial. But mostly I hope, for your sakes, that you find the moral courage to face what you have done to me and to many, many others who deserved to live. I hope that before your time on earth ends, as mine is now ending, you will find the strength of character to stand before the American public and the world, and in particular the Iraqi people, and beg for forgiveness.’
    While I’m waiting for your apology, Kempe, let’s deal with your other statement:
    “The BBC stopped it’s original arabic service over attempts at censorship by the Saudis”
    Where did the journalists go from the BBC’s ‘arabic service’ when it stopped?
  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)
    Since Nevermind has had the courtesy to comment on a reply of mine to Iain Orr, I should like to do him the (return) courtesy of commenting on his post.
    “Ian Orr had the graciousness to converse with a man who has made no contributions”
    _________________
    Yes, Iain Orr is indeed gracious (in general) and should – but unfortunately will not – serve as an example to certain others on this blog. I refer in particular to sundry “Original Trolls” but also to a number of newcomers (if they are in fact newcomers).
    My contribution take several forms, not all of which – unfortunately – appear to find favour with the Original Trolls and other obsessives. I refer here in particular to my attempts to hold people to account for the stuff they post.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    “A very old calcified man who thinks he can berate newcomers at will”
    ___________________

    At will, yes, but the criterion is : do their posts deserve it. As “Skotsinorge”‘s posts are qualitatively similar to those from the Original Trolls, it is only to be expected that they should receive similar critical scrutiny from me.
    (The above comments leaves aside the question of whether at least some of these “newcomers” are really quite as new as they seem)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    “So if you new here and would like to contribute, please… go ahead”
    __________________
    I entirely agree because, unlike some of the Original Trolls and their successors, I believe in the rough and tumble of free speech and am against censorship for this blog.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    “I for one like Mary’s informative posts here, it saves me time”
    __________________

    Fair enough, Nevermind. Having fewer demons to deal with than you, and being less in the grip of various obsessions, I perhaps have more free time than you to do my own reading and research.

    But anyway, perhaps my idea of this blog differs slightly from yours and Mary’s, in that I don’t see it as a sort of sixth-form college notice board or Chinese wall newspaper onto which everyone should post whatever he or she may have come across in the MSM or other blogs and websites. After all, this blog should not be a kind of Readers Digest of geopolitics, should it?

  • Kempe

    ” Check again, lightweight. ”

    According to your own link….

    ” Where did the journalists go from the BBC’s ‘arabic service’ when it stopped? ”

    To al Jezeera. At which point they ceased to be employed by the BBC and became Al Jazeera employees instead. So if any of them resigned over Al Jazeera’s bias it was from Al Jazeera that they resigned and not the BBC because they’d already left the BBC when Al Jazeera was founded and the BBC wound up it’s arabic service. Their BBC contracts had been terminated, they had ceased to be, void, cancelled, extinct, nullified. A dead letter fit only for lining the parrot’s cage. Bereft of obligations and consigned to the recycle bin.

    Got it yet?
