I spoke at the SNP conference fringe on Scotland’s constitution. I don’t claim this was profound but I hope it was interesting.
Independence Live caught me on the way out for the most informal of interviews
Sitting at home in Edinburgh this morning, for the first time for weeks I actually have a few hours when I don’t have to dash off and do something. Hopefully I can de-stress and come up with an interesting blog post.
Easy Nevermind. They are not looking for a solution.
The method of the attack speaks volumes…. they don’t have guns.. they act like cornered animals because of the ethnic cleansing that has been going on systematically for over 50 years.Nobody helps,no-one intervenes and even when Israel commit blatant war crimes and kill thousands, the UN,the EU and the US are silent.
This is a tragedy that will definitely not help the Palestinian cause, but it comes as no surprise. It also shows that Israel’s nuclear weapons,Phosphorous bombs, skunk, humiliation an denial of human rights cannot stop the Palestinians.
Its time to talk.

“But there is sod all wrong with socialism. Why do we think states use it so much?”
“To consolidate assets and make them easier for Capitalists to steal.”
Can you explain to me Fred; are you a socialist or a capitalist or something in between?

“I do despair of the intellectual level of people who believe everything said on RT, which is no more reliable than the BBC, merely serving a different state.”
……………
Well I would agree Craig if people believed EVERYTHING said on RT or EVERYTHING said on the BBC.
What I don’t agree with Craig is your attitude towards people who you seem to consider beneath yourself and your superior knowledge of the world because they quote some RT reports (which, after researching other outlets may turn out to be true).
Where do you get your infallible news from?
You seem to have a pathological hatred of all things Russian. That can’t be healthy for someone who aspires to become an MP.

“…many of the outlets you list toe the govt line (eg ITAR-TASS, the successor to the old Soviet TASS agency).
……………
You say “MANY of the outlets” Habbabkuk but only mention one!
I included media outlets that do toe the government line Habbabkuk because you would otherwise accuse me of selectively highlighting non-government media outlets.
Does the BBC not toe the government (state) line?
You are trying to portray the Russian people as uninformed ignoramuses.
Craig.
“Sofia
It seems to me extremely improbable that Poroshenko said that. I do despair of the intellectual level of people who believe everything said on RT, which is no more reliable than the BBC, merely serving a different state.”
Is that it? You have a sense that he probably didn’t say it and you have a low opinion of unspecified people who, you think, believe everything said on RT?
I agree that it’s a bit daft to believe everything comming from any state media. I think you are overly harsh on RT though and I invite you to provide a link to an example of RT producing false narratives on the scale of the BBC.
My attitude is that if one looks around at what a variety of different sides say you have a chance of noticing patterns that match reality. That’s why I visit your blog.
On the whole I believe your take is sound and the crowd-sourcing of information and perspectives helps me make some kind sense of current events in the world. Also I find the blog fauna fascinating, revealing (Dad), warmly humane (most posers) and occasionally amusing and astounding (Fred. “I think you’ll find that Germany was actually National Socialist not Fascist.”).
I’m a bit baffled that a man of courage, integrity and insight on so many issues can have such a blind spot when it comes to the US/EU putsch in Kiev. I’m even more baffled that, while you are so committed and passionate on the issue of self determination for Scots, you see no justification for the people of the Donbass claiming their own self-determination rather than submitting to an illegal regime violently installed and maintained by foreign powers, oligarch gangs and local ultra-right militias in Kiev. It is against this backdrop that I have no problem believing what was reported. I may be mistaken.
A quick search of the internet shows plenty of reports asserting that these were indeed Poroshenko’s words, and none claiming it is a mistranslation. Maybe a Ukrainian speaker will read this and listen to the clip (24 secs), then confirm whether the translation is accurate or not. Here it is,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ieM14B6T0po
What Poroshenko is reported to say,
”We will have our jobs – they will not. We will have our pensions – they will not. We will have care for children, for people and retirees – they will not. Our children will go to schools and kindergartens… theirs will hole up in the basements. Because they are not able to do a thing. This is exactly how we will win this war!”
Thanks.
Oops!
…warmly humane (most posers)…
I meant “posters” of course, but on second thoughts “posers” is good too! 🙂
@Sofia: Well said! It seems that this speech was in Odessa, where the trades union building was burned down in early May. It was “pre-election”. Poroshenko was also reported as welcoming the Bandera presence in that city. It should also perhaps be noted that Odessa had one of the lowest turnouts in the Ukrainian election.
I also agree about the Scottish and Donbass people having something of a common purpose… separation from a mother country whose administration has become corrupted… Craig speaks much of corruption in the UK, whereas it is clearly many times worse in Ukraine and the evidence goes much wider than RT.
@Craig: Best ever figures for SNP in latest poll:

the special people we always talk,/i>…
were the top item on all R4 news programmes yesterday, beating a merely local triple child murderer’s sentence into second place. Extended lachrymose interview with relative of one of the dead on the 1800 slot. It was comforting to learn from her that Israel was a nice place really, and from Regev that…poor little Israel, ad nauseam. I barely noticed that I hadn’t heard much from 2300 Gazan relatives then or earlier on R4.

Well spotted, Doug. That’s why I used that useful little abbreviation “eg”. Did you see it?
You’re still not doing very well, are you.

You are a pretentious chump with zero self-awareness, aren’t yo.
Rather than insult people, Habby, perhaps you can explain why Craig can’t see fascist behaviour as fascist behaviour? Or perhaps you suffer from the same myopia yourself…
