    Of course the release of THAT news at THAT time was propaganda, Habby. Just as a lot of the stuff timely released to the Russian media is propaganda. You know that so don’t pretend it wasn’t.

    Macky – the Henry Kissinger of this blog – opines as follows

    “@Phil, How does opposing all the phony pro-war arguments that aim to give cover & justification for NATO to potentially turn Russia into another failed state”
    _____________

    Russia is certainly on the road to becoming a failed state. I knew that if I waited long enough someone would come along and pin the blame for that not on Russia’s own failed foreign, economic, social and political policies but on….NATO!

    THanks, Henry! 🙂

    Well, for once you appear to have practiced what you preach, since you say

    “I now live in France”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Next step : apply for French citizenship since you’re ashamed of your 1000 year old UK passport 🙂 they don’t discriminate against vermin, LOL
    I don’t think so, Habby. Russia is an old, and very mature country. Their current constitution has got a few defects, but nothing like as many as our own archaic FPTP system. The US suffers to some extent from a collegiate approach… if %vote products one President, and seat-by-seat a different one there is something wrong… at the very least it should trigger a new election.
  • Peacewisher
    And I’ll go further… the election that put George W. Bush in the White House with a smaller number of votes than his opponent probably helped to foment instability… and we know what that lapse led to later in 2001.
    Well, I don’t know that, actually. But you appear to “know”. How do you “know”, Peacewisher? Share with us the concrete elements and evidence in which your “knowing” is based.
    Thanks, and now bugger off! 🙂
    Hello Tony – I was trying to imagine my own army arriving at the end of the lane in a tank and a personnel carrier after a number of shells had smashed the corner paper-shop and killed ol’ Bert who always wore a suit and tie on Sunday, and Ada, his missus of 65 years. The imploding windows had ripped into the faces of a gang of kids queueing for their usual jamboree bags and Irn-Bru.
    I carried one little boy who was bleeding badly from a deep cut across his eye, his sister lifeless on the floor with a huge shard of glass sticking out of her head, straight out through the broken door of the shop and down the lane towards Dr Watson’s surgery just off the high street in the ‘big red house’ that had a huge cold front-room waiting room, uncomfortable armchairs and ‘posh’ magazines; it whiffed of paraffin. When I got there the surgery was a pile of rubble and an outstretched arm could seen poking out from wood and plaster.. smoke slowly curling skywards in a number of places and silence, an eerie silence…
    Of course I wasn’t in Ukraine.
    Thanks for the info on the Palestinian fisherman, Mary.
    Have you had time yet to collect a few thoughts on the grooming gangs phenomenon in the UK? Given the apparent failure of a number of jobsworths in OUR NHS, OUR services, OUR local authorities and OUR police to deal with this scourge, what proposals would you put forward to combat it?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    BRW – is there a petition circulating on this, by any chance?

    Who is ‘ëacewisher’?

    That old rogue finger seems to have a problem with the letter ‘P’!

  • Peacewisher

    Habby… you do sound irritated today!

    You and I agreed that several months ago when we discussed some or other issue from the past, and how other issues of the time were sidelined in the news to give a particular matter of strategic interest much greater prominence. We agreed that public consciousness is easily shaped by the media in this way. This is, of course, common sense.

    Why deny it now?

    I have no recollection of ever agreeing with you. It sounds most unlikely.

    ” This is what Reuters has to say about the Chechnyans accused of Nemtsov’s murder. Doubt it will shut the trolls up that Putin did it. ”

    Well as your link says hitmen have been arrested in the past but whoever hired them has never been revealed. If this had happened in the west you’d be convinced they were “patsies”.

    As for the “combine harvesters” odd that they should have their booms all pointing in exactly the same direction and so long too. What we’re looking at is something more akin to this:-

    As for them being Ukrainian sorry but they’re pointing the wrong way.

  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)

    Mary

    Thanks for your comments about the typos.

    At the risk of taking you onto a higher level of discusion which you might find rather taxing : what are your thoughts on the grooming gangs in the UK? Do you see them as a problem and what would be your tentative suggestions for addressing the problem?

    There is no requirement to squawk emergency transponder codes for military aircraft. Our own RAF planes are identified by IFF that transmit ‘friend or foe’ encrypted interrogation codes that obviously only identify ‘friends’ and only recently Britain uses a NATO standard.

    Interestingly from my own experience in the 70’s Russian military aircraft audaciously identify themselves as military planes while NATO do not, frequency their transponders are switched off which makes this resolution rather odd and hypocritical.

    I’m not going to dig back through the archives, Habby…

    So, to take an opposing view, then, let’s all it liassez-faire democracy, the ptb are so freethinking that they’ll leave it to the media to report on whatever they think fit. Do that look like our political system?

  • Peacewisher

    @Mark… if that is the case, the Russians should say so more overtly. The western media got away with a coup in Ukraine due to their mastery of the media, and if the Russians do not challenge them… and do so openly… the neocons will still be running rings round them.

    Our friend “Afrend” – he who hides behind TOR, according to the Mods – was recently hawking a new tool on here – the ability to instantly establish who had been posting how many times on any particular thread.

    I suppose a few of you have taken up “Afrend”‘s new tool.

    Could someone who has please tell us how many times “Republicofscotland”, Mr Goss, “RobG” and Miss “Macky” have posted so far on this thread?

    Thanks.

    Just to pop in after a busy two weeks. It looks like NATO is being pushed into calamity by some bottom noises escaping Gen. Breedlove’s mouth, not unlike the unknown interloper here who still denigrates new posters and telling poster to ‘bugger off’

    http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/germany-concerned-about-aggressive-nato-stance-on-ukraine-a-1022193.html

    His anxieties are not shared by Berlin’s Intelligence community and the manoeuvre currently playing ‘attack’ In the eastern Baltic are as much disturbing as the flights by Russian long range bombers over the North sea.
    NATO is tearing itself apart, this warmongering by its US/UK contingent is obscene as it is acidic. We will not play US war games here in Europe!

    Now I’m gonna put my tatties into the ground, might come back here next weekend.
    @ Clark, if you have Craig’s new tel. Number, please send him my tel.number. I can’t get in touch with him. Much obliged. tada

    Good to see you back on here again!

    BTW, apologies for not congratulating you on your 30th in good time, hope you’ll accept them now.

    While we’re on the subject, I have two questions for you:

    1/. what do you think about overflying and NATO aircraft going up to escort Russian planes out of NATO airspace?

    2/. What do you think of German left-wing MP Sahra Wagenknecht?
