Alisdair Gray pens, an interesting article in the National today, he reminds us that all local authorities in the United Queendom, hold investments, in worlds largest weapons companies.
Its an old old article about authorities and weapons manufacturers, by Richard Norton-Taylor, but to me, it seem more relevant now than ever, due to the on going wars, around the world today, and the fact our councils profit from the arms sales.

Almost all local authorities in Britain hold investments in the world’s largest weapons companies, according to figures released under the Freedom of Information Act.
The figures show that they invest £723m in 15 of the largest international arms companies. This is more than double what local authorities spend on promoting local enterprise and new businesses across Britain, says the Campaign Against the Arms Trade, Caat, which conducted the FoI exercise. It found that 67 of Britain’s 99 council pension funds invest nearly £244m in BAE Systems, the UK’s largest arms company.
One in three council pension funds help to finance the manufacture of nuclear weapons through investments in Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest arms company, according to Caat. It says they are investing £20m in Lockheed, which manufactures Trident nuclear missiles for the US and Britain and is a contractor at the Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment, which produces and maintains the UK’s nuclear warheads.
Of the 88 council funds which provided information, all but two invest in arms manufacture. Three in five councils invest in companies manufacturing cluster bombs or their components. General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon all produce cluster munitions or their components, according to Human Rights Watch.

I used to read there almost every day. There was a guy called Tom who claimed to be American and an engineer – very dismissive and arrogant. IIRC he claimed at one point that he wouldn’t reply to anyone who wasn’t an engineer themselves.

I’m not sure that is very interesting, actually, but interests vary, I suppose.
Anyway : I think that everyone’s tax returns should be online and available to everyone else – as it the case in Sweden, I understand. (This would, by the way, include yours).

Anyway, he appeared to leave it with nothing proven from his end, except to make it clear he regarded himself as a universal expert, kept getting confused about who he was talking to, and that even such self appointed experts are unable to explain how two buildings spontaneously collapsed into their own footprints following random damage plus some relatively minor fires, and how a third building collapsed (again, into its own footprint) without having been hit at all.

In July 2014 it was reported that Leicestershire Police began trialling a facial recognition system in April earlier that year.
