“I expect that Boris Nemtsov was murdered merely as part of a propaganda exercise, so that this demonstration could be misrepresented in Russian state-controlled media as a mourning procession rather than a protest against the Kremlin’s part in the proxy war in Ukraine:”

Are you sure about that, Clark.

It was the demonstrators themselves who decided to turn it into a mourning, wasn’t it?

    ====================

Your more general position seems to be that you despise all political scumbags.

    That’s fine.

There is the problem though of the geopolitical thing.

And I’m with the rest of the world in this, however poor some leaders may be.

You could do worse than listen to some current Russian thinkers. You’ve got Patriots, Conservatives, Liberals, Communists and others.

It’s interesting to see how those different approaches emerged and how they interrelate and so on.

In many ways these are all interrogating ideas we’ve long forgotten.

When people come to one or another of the countries of the British Isles, they should leave the all too numerous chips on their shoulder about the ‘old country’ behind and the details of how it should or shouldn’t be run to those still living there, worse still is infecting the minds of their spawn with their own prejudices to carry on the ‘fight’.

  • Clark

    From Boris Nemtsov’s Wikipedia page:

The BBC reported: “In his last tweet, Mr Nemtsov sent out an appeal for Russia’s divided opposition to unite at an anti-war march he was planning for Sunday”, quoting him as saying, “If you support stopping Russia’s war with Ukraine, if you support stopping Putin’s aggression, come to the Spring March in Maryino on 1 March.”

Russian journalist Kseniya Sobchak said that Nemtsov was preparing a report proving the presence of Russian military in eastern Ukraine.

The night following the murder of Nemtsov, his papers, writings and computer hard drives were confiscated in a search performed by police in his flat on Malaya Ordynka street.

Nemtsov was a distinguished scientists with over 60 academic publications related to quantum physics, thermodynamics and acoustics to his name.

Demonstrations took place in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Orenburg, Tomsk and Khabarovsk. Here are some photographs of the many Russian anti-war campaigners who demonstrated and paid their respect to Boris Nemtsov. These are the Russians that Macky and John Goss are dismissing, the people who reject their country’s propaganda, as we reject ours. There must be millions of them. Solidarnost.

Putin will ignore them, just like Blair and Bush ignored the millions of us who demonstrated against the Iraq atrocity.

“…. Clark does see himself as the voice of Craig in Craig’s absence….”

For what it’s worth, reading many of Clark’s posts, it’s my view that he/she does come across as somewhat pompous and holier than thou. Is Clark actually somebody that has been personally appointed by Craig to fulfill the role of arbiter on this blog or has he/she decided to take on that particular role her/himself in Craig’s absence?

” who’s getting a bit of a roasting at the moment from myself and others who have seen through him.”

The idea of a thermoplastic troll with nylon hair roasting my good friend John Goss has brightened up my whole weekend.

Hope you don’t come to a nasty, toxic, sticky end yourself toasty-boy.

  • Clark

Nemtsov the physicist said “Stop the war”.

Putin the spook says “war? What war?”.

John Goss and Macky believe the spook.

  • Herbie

    Clark

It was the organisers of the event who decided to turn it into a Mourning rather than a demonstration.

    There are reasons for this.

When they protested against Putin, along arrived Putin supporters who outnumbered them ten to one.

In a Mourning you don’t get much dissent.

This Mourning was to their advantage. They used the moment.

“John Goss, I do NOT support the Kiev government, nor ANY OTHER government. I support people and their right to live in peace, their right truthful information, and their right to freedom from propaganda and perception management.”

So logically then, it follows you support the people of Eastern Ukraine against the actions of the Kiev Junta government?

  • Herbie

“Nemtsov the physicist said “Stop the war”.”

    Yup.

Stop The War/Let The West Win

We want to be like you.

He supported the West in pillaging Russian resources and participated in that process at a very high level.

He was a biggie at one time, couda been a president, but had really been pushed aside by the likes of Navalny etc, in the past ten years or so.

  • Clark

Herbie, so do you agree that the Kremlin is sending forces into Ukraine? And do you support that? And did you follow my link to RT? It makes no mention of the anti-war motivations of the demonstrators.

Daniel, I don’t know the proportions of support versus opposition for the Kiev government in east Ukraine, but I don’t accept Putin-controlled media on that matter. The US should not have interfered in Kiev; it helped precipitate the crisis and gave the Kremlin an excuse – but not right to seize Crimea and to try to take east Ukraine.

  • Macky

Clark; “Macky, how can that be a smear unless you admit to Kremlin designs upon Ukraine?”

Yes, rational reasoning does seems to elude you sometimes; try sleeping on it, and try not to have nightmares about all those people killed in Eastern Ukraine because of the illegal coup, or the more than a million refugees that have had to flee to Russia for safety.

  • Daniel

“Daniel, I don’t know the proportions of support versus opposition for the Kiev government in east Ukraine, but I don’t accept Putin-controlled media on that matter. I agree with you. On the issue of the respective media, I think that Chomsky and Herman’s propaganda model is a good basis for getting to grips with understanding how the propaganda system works in the West which is essentially about censorship by omission as opposed to more crude forms of propaganda evidenced on RT.

I am the first to admit that personally I think it’s sometimes difficult to differentiate objective truth from bullshit. I try to view all media – including RT- with an open mind and do my best to try to read between the lines.

I regard RT as being part and parcel of a wider media spectrum that I contend is a necessary corrective to the Western media narrative. It’s my view that the emergence of RT has added to the overall diversity of media output which can only be a good thing.

Can you imagine how many individuals would have to remain silent having been complicit in and knowing that 911 was a conspiracy between the USA, UK, Israel etc….

This statement by a prospective candidate in the forthcoming general election is very impressive. If only the pocket pols were capable of such commitment and holding these beliefs.

“I am a principal lecturer in psychology at the University of Brighton and worked in community mental health for the last 10 years. I currently head a European Community Psychology Task Force on the impacts of austerity politics on mental health across Europe and have worked as a trustee for a number of community organisations in recent years. I am addicted to road cycling and live in Worthing with my wife Ruth and children, Anna and Andrew.

BoldI am standing because I am passionately committed both to a public NHS and to challenging those whose contempt for democracy means that they will ignore the needs and desires of their electorate in order to seek profit. Of all of the social innovations we have designed to hold out a hand to people when they are at their most vulnerable, the NHS is the one that we can be most proud of. There’s something about our National Health Service that transcends mere healthcare. It represents one of the last vestiges of virtue and social compassion in a time where our social fabric is being systematically unpicked by those who preach the creed of self-interest. Our health is the one aspect of our social lives that deserves to be beyond the urge toward self-interest and profit. We need to draw a line that says that, no matter who you are, no matter what circumstances you are in, no matter how much money you do or don’t have, you will always receive quality healthcare free at the point of delivery. This is the reason that I am standing for the NHA Party.

The constituency I’m standing in is East Worthing and Shoreham, which covers an eastern portion of Worthing, the town of Shoreham-by-Sea and three nearby inland villages that are also in West Sussex. Shoreham has a large boat harbour facility and, along with Worthing, is a vibrant, friendly place nestled between the South Downs and the English Channel. I grew up and went to school in Shoreham and now live in East Worthing. Both of my children were born in Worthing hospital and I and my family have received wonderful health care form Worthing and Southlands hospitals and from our GPs in the areas.”

I say this having just watched last week’s Question Time from Telford. The panel was dire. Four MPs – Grant Shapps, Rachel Reeves, Mark Reckless, Tessa Munt, and a Sunday Times journalist. You could sense the audience’s total disenchantment throughout.

You only have to consider the decades old child abuse cases only now being openly acknowledge after being suppressed by the Establishment all this time, which, many, many people must have known about all along.

    Another obvious example is Operation Northwood, officially drawn up in 1962, only partially revealed in 1998, finally fully declassified in 2001;

Macky 8.48 a.m. Thanks for the link to the Kiev Comic’s article. It is the first article from that rag that I have read which has some balance, probably because of the foreign funding (see foot of article). Despite mentioning that there were no Russians among the dead in Odessa it still makes all kinds of unfounded accusations, that it was pro-Russians who were armed and started it (that would be the pro-Russians torched to death in the Trade Union building which was locked to prevent them escaping to safety). The difference between the Comic’s article and this one is that this one names the names of who were responsible for organising this very well-planned massacre.

    Afshin is good.

Afshin Rattansi goes underground on the Guardian, accused of kowtowing to advertisers over editorial content. Former contributor Nafeez Ahmed describes a culture where ‘certain types of questions about Israel shouldn’t be asked’ and describes the media as a ‘battle of the oligarchs.’ Investigative food journalist Joanna Blythman looks at the secrets of the food industry, warning that companies ‘hide behind the creed of commercial confidentiality’ and have a revolving-door with their regulators. We take a look at which British MPs are on the guest list for the annual conference of influential lobbyists the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee. Russian aggression dominates the headlines in this week’s Breaking Views. And are ALL British taxpayers dodging taxes?

Search for missing MH370 may be called off soon
    http://rt.com/news/236665-australia-missing-mh370-search/

‘Australia says the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 may soon be called off, as no trace of the aircraft has been found since it disappeared over the Indian Ocean a year ago this week.

“We clearly cannot keep searching forever, but we want to do everything that’s reasonably possible to locate the aircraft,” Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Warren Truss told Reuters in an interview.

He added that discussions are underway between Australia, China, and Malaysia on whether to call off the search for the missing Boeing 777 in the coming weeks.’
