An Apology 2256

I am so committed to getting my book finished I really don’t have time or energy to blog at the moment, and realise it has been very desultory the last few weeks. I am well and happy, it is just that writing a properly researched history is incredibly intensive. I realise there is much of great interest happening in the world, but I must sometimes cut myself off from it.

This is why I don’t ask for donations for the blog…

    Off topic, but…

We are bursting with pride. Radio 4 has just concluded half an hour extolling us Komodo dragons. Nor did it stint its praise: ‘majestic’, ‘serene’ and ‘remarkable’ were among its well-chosen epithets, though our tendency to cannibalism and appalling table manners were perhaps unnecessarily highlighted – the BBC being in uncharacteristically impartial mood. Credit where credit is due, and we hope due note will be taken of our patience in following up our prey, once poisonously bitten.

On a note of complete bathos, the programme was immediately followed by ‘Sir’ Jonathan Sacks, formerly advisor to the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, giving it the full rabbi on ‘morality’. ‘We’ need a sense of purpose. Like Hamas has, perhaps.

    DIARY UPDATE:

The Self-Appointed Plenipotentiary, His Ubiquitousness, Tony Blair, will apparently be meeting Salvini at 1430 Italian time. OTOH, M-ASRI departed Teterboro NY yesterday and is currently on the ground at Moscow.Vnukovo. Is Nassef Sawiris negotiating for Moscow Dynamo? No matter. But we await with interest Blair’s appearance in Rwanda on the 7th.

While the EU-zone spin on the TAP pipeline being promoted and sanitised by Blair, Inc. is that it is optional for Italy, there is in fact very little point to the exercise if it doesn’t come ashore in Puglia. The Albanian initial access phase is 75% complete, and access to most of the remainder of the route has been cleared. There are future plans for expansion of capacity beyond the current capability. If it terminated in Albania, who would it serve?

So, with Salvini’s known support for the project, this is a done deal. They’re stacking pipe sections at Fier, in all probability, ready to get the go-ahead for the undersea section. All that’s needed is some magic fairy dust to scatter in the faces of the objectors while their olive groves are turned into a petrochemical plant. And that’s why Blair. That’s always why Blair (and always has been).

These are the shareholders in TAP:

BP, Azerbaijan’s state company Socar and Italy’s Snam with 20% each, Belgium’s Fluxys with 19%, Spain’s Enagas with 16% and Swiss-based Axpo with 5%.

Emerging from the Salvini- Blair meeting today is this, from Salvini:

Rome, 4 sets. (askanews) – “Positive and long meeting with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on immigration, Brexit, energy policies, I proposed a conference on development and investment for Africa and, in general, we appreciated the common will to do things concrete. ” This was stated in a statement by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvini, at the end of the meeting with the former English premier.
    (Credit also Google Translate)

    https://notizie.tiscali.it/cronaca/articoli/salvini-blair-proposta-conferenza-sviluppo-in-africa-00001/

Well, well, well. Not just the TAP line, then. Is Signor Salvini interested in trade with Africa? Very likely; who isn’t? The fact that the UK will be equally interested, in a context outside the EU, cannot have escaped Tony. And immigration? What can Tony possibly have to say about that to an anti-immigration populist? Someone’s going to get shafted, we feel. And if Tony is acting in his own country’s interest, or indeed with any other intention than reshaping the world in Blair’s image,we will be extremely surprised.

Mystic Komodo (nee Ba’al) suggests that it will not be long before Salvini features in one of the fora, conferences, expos and Evenings With which are such a feature of Kigali life under Tony’s mate Kagame. He may even fly there Air Sawiris.

Back to implore Frau Merkel to continue obstructing Brexit, on Tuesday morning (possibly Monday, unless he missed breakfast on the 4th) . We continue to wonder how this personified concatenation of foreign vested interests is permitted by HMG to have any input whatever into its foreign policy.

However, we enjoyed the body language. Whatever Blair is unconsciously announcing re. his sexual preferences, Merkel appears to agree.

And here’s something heartwarming from that interview in Dubrovnik –

He was asked to comment on the statements of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, who in his comparison of Croats in the Homeland War with Hitler’s Nazi made an unseen scandal, said he was sorry to hear it.

“But sometimes it is better to ignore than to give attention, if you look from the Serbian corner, the Serbian president has his audience he wants to like, the most important is to evaluate whether there is a general trend towards reconciliation. In the peace process in Northern Ireland, where I was very involved , today there are unacceptable comments that revive feelings from the past, but you still have to think about where we were then and where we are now, “said former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

IOW, that’s fine. Just a bit of bantz to get Vucic’s voters onside. (Blair is contracted to advise Vucic). But what if he’d similarly defended a breach of the IHRA’s ‘internationally accepted’ examples of antisemitism, such as comparing, say, Gaza to the Warsaw ghetto?

Better ask Rabbi Sacks, Michael Milken, Lord Levy, and indeed, Bibi about that one, eh?

The Daily Mail and Financial Times have greeted the publication of the Tony Blair Institute’s first accounts since the reshuffle with a partial list of contributors to the enterprise (as frequently indicated above, but without Companies’ House confirmation). The Daily Mail appears to be under the impression that Windrush Ventures was wound up during the restructuring in 2016. As we pointed out recently, this is not true. Windrush Ventures (WV for brevity), still comprising WV No 1 Ltd, WV No 3 LP and its BDB partners, is still active, and WV no 1 Ltd’s accounts are due in December, though of course, No 3 LP’s will remain for ever secret. The TBI presumably replaces WV Ltd ( no longer active), and WV No 2 LLP (no longer active) would no longer be necessary to a mechanism shuttling expenses invented to transfer liquidity elsewhere, or so we read it.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6135673/Tony-Blair-pumps-nearly-7m-charity-fights-populism.html

The FT confirms the continuing input of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. Pinchuk has been a longstanding if unacknowledged donor to the former Tony Blair Faith Foundation*.

    The FT also notes:
TBI now employs 221 staff in 30 countries and recorded $34.8m turnover in the 13 months to December 31, 2017.
Mr Blair personally contributed $8.8m of that income, involving the financial reserves from Tony Blair Associates, his former advisory firm, when it was wound up nearly two years ago.

Which looks like less of a big deal when it is rememberd that the sole Person with Significant Control of the TBI is, obviously, Tony.

    *(Pinchuk: theme and variations…:

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/tony-blair/9859780/Revealed-Tony-Blair-and-the-oligarch-bankrolling-his-charity.html )

Pinchuk is currently under investigation by Mueller with reference to Pinchuk’s alleged $150K donation to Trump’s campaign. It is elsewhere alleged that between 1999 and 2014, Pinchuk directed between $10 M and $25M into the Cllinton Foundation’s Global Initiative. He has the ear of the Xraeli government, thanks at least in part to his generosity to its religious organisations.

    Tony’s interview in Dubrovnik in July contained no reference to the case of Ivica Todoric. His company, Agrokor, owns according to one estimate, 15% of Croatia’s GCP. Except it probably doesn’t. The oligarch, one of Europol’s most wanted fugitives, handed himself in to the Metropolitan Police last July, and has since then been contesting his deportation to Croatia to face charges of corruption, forgery and fraud. He is currently in the process of appealing to the High Court to overturn the decision of Westminster Magistrate’s Court to send him home. Westminster had decided that there was no support for Todoric’s case that his arrest was politically motivated. The hearing was scheduled for today, but the court has allowed a 28-day extension, and we await developments;

Rather embarrassingly for Tony’s July protestations of deep love for Croatia, Todoric appeared in court today on the arm of ….Cherie Blair. Who is representing him.

We found this in the pocket of a TBIfTB staffer we hit over the head on his way home:

Press release from Tony Blair Institute for Tony Blair.
All local and national outlets; supreme urgency. From The Desk of Tony Blair:
Strapline: “Labour under Jeremy Corbyn a different party, says Tony Blair ”
    (Use verbatim or we’ll sue)
Text: you can C&P some of My old speeches…you know, Corbyn’s a c**t, Labour needs to represent big business, threaten new party under Me. Clear with me first -TB

Best advert for Corbyn’s Labour I have yet seen. Roll the poster presses: “Labour’s Different Now!” and wait for the votes to roll in!

We looked in vain for news of Tony naming a baby mountain gorilla in Rwanda today. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was there, however. We hope that the chef-approved baby, Amatungo, doesn’t backslide and use its birth name. Which is “Bushmeat”.

We are unconvinced, incidentally, that Tony is in Rwanda at all, despite what looked like a firm (if unprestigious) booking. News of His manifestations is usually released some time after he has left, though, and we must be patient.

Yesterday we found Tony in The Gambia. telling Barrow the TBIfTB will accelerate progress etc.

    http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16118

We would have linked to the official video, but some might have found the image of Blair hugging and kissing President Barrow distressing – looked as if Barrow had his doubts, too.

It may be recalled that when Gambia withdrew from the ICC in 2016, alleging that the court was prejudiced against people of colour, it cited the example of Tony Blair’s non-indictment for war crimes as being due to his relative* whiteness. Nice to see they’re all friends again.

    * Qualifier unnecessary if the tan is indeed fake, But who are we to judge?

      https://gambia.smbcgo.com/2018/02/23/gambia-hires-ex-british-prime-ministers-wife-legal-battle-african-petroleum/

The URL tells it all. Gambia has history of trying to grab back mineral resources on questionable grounds:

The Gambia lost a similar case against the mining company Carnegie Minerals in 2014 at the same U.S.-based International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes and was ordered to pay $23 million dollars, a fine which was later negotiated with the company by Adama Barrow’s administration.

but all will presumably be well for it as Cherie is well used to defending unpopular governments.

Another female QC who defended Gambia against against claims by Conapro, regarding the sale contract for the supply of petroleum products, was Elizabeth Jones QC of Serle Court Chambers and described by them as: “Capable of assimilating a great deal of information in a very short space of time, and ideal for urgent matters.” Steely and effective in court, she’s someone with great judgement.”

She lost. £2.6M worth of lost.

We’re glad we called this Blair Miles. From The Gambia to New York:

    http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Tony+Blair/Annual+Charity+Day+Hosted+Cantor+Fitzgerald/gTt3k8wyQlS

BGC Charity Day was founded in 2005 to raise money for the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and other nonprofits as a way to honor the victims of 9/11. Each year on or near September 11, BGC Charity Day brings in celebrities, athletes and politicians alike to man their phones and speak with clients, with all revenue from the day being donated to charities of choice. The Charity Day event has also spread beyond New York to all of BGC Partners’ international offices (Wikipedia)

It was a glittering occasion. Sophie Wessex and Fergie ex-York dropped into the London offices to do their bit for BGC’s image and their own. We wonder why Tony couldn’t do the same. Though Bill Clinton was at the New York callcentrothon, and maybe he just wanted to catch up. Or…exes?

We could think of other guests who might not be so welcome at the money-manipulating corporation’s commemoration of 9/11. Such as any member of Saudi Arabia’s Wahhabist aristocracy, given the affiliation of the replacement pilots of Flights 11 and 176. But there’s £7M in the coffers of the TBI to contradict us…

          I’ll admit to feeling a little sorry for the creep. You only have to look at his face to see that he went stark raving bonkers, obviously through having to continually rationalise the immense evil of his decisions, and he has certainly heard my voice, among that ever recurrent choir just beyond the window, over and over and over;
“Tony Blair, War Criminal, War Criminal, War Criminal…”

Obviously, more powerful bastards chose to hoist him up the greasy pole because the was photogenic, malleable, and ultimately, expendable. I always think of that clip of him, waving to the cameras as he carried his guitar into No 10. He and his wife were New Age Hippies; utter abdication of objectivity, “reality is a projection of our minds”, solipsism displacing all humility, no inkling of being a tiny part of the Great Scheme.

Done is done; consequences must be faced. This site gets backed up once a week 😉

Talking of The Gambia, this is rather entertaining:

    https://www.freedomnewspaper.com/2018/09/12/gambia-letter-to-the-editor-far-ltd-dg-in-the-gambia-resigns-tony-blair-is-paid-3-million-dollars-by-the-gambia-govt/

Due to Blair’s policy of impenetrable secrecy, this can’t be properly checked, but we offer it at face value; the writer is obviously informed.
If he is correct, and the TBIfTB is acting for Barrow in the negotiation of oil contracts, we envisage an even more entertaining scenario down the line. In which, frustrated in its attempt to obtain corporation tax from Petrobras – or on some other pretext – Barrow decides to reclaim its concessions, as he is trying to do with African Petroleum. And Petrobras may decide to go to law In which case (see above) Cherie Boothblair QC could be called in to defend hubby’s employer. Double Ker-ching!

Reuters (and subsequently all hacks with an unfilled c&p quota) announces the release of a new report from the Institute for the Bleeding Obvious – extremism is apparently a problem, and wot you gotta, you know, do, is spend more money on education and governance. Which just happen to be two brands Tony makes a living from selling (see above, to the point of tedium).

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-britain-security-terrorism/tony-blair-worlds-strategy-for-countering-islamist-extremism-flawed-idUSKCN1LS34X

Appears that the ideological root of extremism must be addressed. By which Tony always means Muslim extremism. He is consistently silent on Xewish or Buddhist extremism. But extremism is not, as Tony appears to think, confined to a single faith, but has many different causes. Anders Breivik is not a Muslim, and killed 77 of his countrymen in the service of his wholly irreligious beliefs. Indeed, Tony himself, following nothing more tangible than his belief in his own omniscience, has at the very least collaborated in the destruction of many more lives than the Institute’s report ascribes to extremists. Tony is himself an extremist, for all the centrist guff. He believes…no…BELIEVES that people must die for the cause in which he BELIEVES. Even if the cause is the perpetuation of global injustice, which it frequently is.

In the process, Tony has unwisely made it personal, accusing Muslim rights organisations such as CAGE (by name) of hindering the connection between non-extreme Muslims and government. Probably best to let CAGE reply to this, as we are not a Muslim:

      CORRECTION:

This was not in Estonia, after all, but at Victor Pinchuk’s (friend of Xrael and Blair) 2018 Yalta European Strategy conference. The date is correct. And Kersti Kaljulaid rather competently disposed of Blair:

Kaljulaid spent most of her time explaining the advantages of technology for any society to the far less tech savvy former British Prime Minister Tony Blair using the most basic examples: “Mothers with babies can work from home, young girls from Africa can learn from the bookkeepers in the Netherlands, e-government increases government transparency,” etc.

When Kaljulaid spoke of Estonia’s first biobank of its citizens’ DNA, which helps study and prevent genetic diseases, and “e-identity,” which allows Estonians to vote from anywhere in the world, Blair looked intimidated. Compared to him, Kaljulaid appeared relatable and relevant. It clearly exposed the generation gap between them — both in age and political vision. Kaljulaid also mocked Blair for his tendency toward long-winded questions, saying “I will reply in a little less complex, housewife-ish way.” She also alluded to Britain’s traditional social class divisions, when talking about the equalising power of technology and meritocracy.

Several participants decided they did not wish to share a platform with Steve Bannon, at The Economist’s Open Future Festival on the 15th.

Held in three cities simultaneously, New York, Hong Kong and London, the festival is vaguely directed towards a more open society, but what useful function it might perform other than as a networking event is hard to discern.

While such luminaries as Emmy The Great (who she?) pulled out, Tony is of course made of sterner stuff – though his Institute’s affairs are in no sense open to anyone, let alone society – and duly delivered a tour of his obsessions in London.

COMING SOON – Tony at the AT&T Business summit to make friends with the extraordinarily lucrative data-monetisation industry, which is what Tony understands the ‘technology’ about which he lectures at length to be. Pity we can’t watch him gesticulating at the Texas suits, but it’s invitation-only. No peasants, and an open society is for other planets.

The competitive game is changing — digital transformation is now taking place firmly at the edge. At this year’s invitation- only AT&T Business Summit, we’ll uncover ways to successfully deliver intelligence from every corner of your business. From endpoints and applications to SDN innovation, infrastructure and architecture to 5G and beyond – all with a focus on cybersecurity.

We see M-ASRI even as we type is on a course likely to lead across the pond in time for Wednesday in Texas. Pure coincidence, no doubt. It would seem that Tony has not yet been spotted at the Labour Party conference, which might be seen as curious in someone who has struggled all his life for the masses and the downtrodden…but would be entirely in character for Tony. Still, given a perfect opportunity to hurl abuse at Corbyn, face to face, up front and personal, as opposed to via the Twitterer of Tony Blair, or via John Rentoul or Campbell, what’s not to like, Tony? Apart from that date with AT&T’s techno conference, that is.

Both would like to abolish the Left, so very little conflict there. And Tony is perfectly content to build bridges with Bannon…

Clarification: M-ASRI’s recent flight was earlier correctly surmised to be going to the US. It wound up at Los Angeles, but did not touch down at Philadelphia or Dallas at any point. Exactly as Blair was scheduled to be speaking at AT&T in Dallas, it took off and returned directly to Europe – currently over Ireland heading E.
Nassef Sawiris (if it was he, and it probably wasn’t, nor Naguib) didn’t even drop in on his methanol plant in Houston, which has just reached full production. So it would appear that, despite some very convenient timing for giving Tony a lift, SawirisAir didn’t. A gossip columnist would instantly deduce that there has been a disagreement!

  • Komodo

Distancing himself even further from ‘his’ ‘antisemitic’ party than Dallas and Philadelphia are from Labour’s Manchester conference, Tony joins the signatories of an ‘initiative’ (read ‘global press release’) in support of, you know, being friends with each other, not least because the EU is wonderful and bigotry (= Muslim bigotry, not Xtian or Xewish bigotry, obvs) is bad. Published in the NYT by the American Xewish Committee, which as might be expected represents Xrael rather than the Western democracies to which it is appealing.

    https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/us-european-and-canadian-leaders-join-ajc-initiative-reaffirming-transatlantic-ties-300719226.html

In October 2011 AJC issued a joint statement with the Anti-Defamation League urging American Xews to support a Joint Unity Pledge stating: “America’s friendship with Xrael is an emotional, moral and strategic bond that has always transcended politics.” It urged that “now is the time to reaffirm that Xrael’s well-being is best served, as it always has been, by American voices raised together in unshakeable support for our friend and ally.” (Wikipedia)

Currently, Tony’s bombastic Institute is pumping out tweets and whatever you call Facebook emissions, to the effect that no-one but the Reverend Blair understands the threat from the ideology behind violent jihadism. Since this is approximately as close to the ideology of mainstream Islam, being derived from literal and selective interpretation, as the ideology of Blair’s chum Rick Warren is to Christianity, similarly arrived-at, we can assume that Blair makes no genuine distinction between the ideologies of extremists and of moderates.

The only ideology involved, actually, is the systematic abandonment of morality, condoned by leaders who are not religious at all. And this is potential in everyone, regardless of the faith they claim. Catholics, Protestants, Buddhists, Hindus, and even (read the Bible!) the Chosen of G-d have from time to time committed horrible atrocities in pursuit of their alleged Faith. It’s a pack-ape thing. And Tony has not yet understood that if you cut off one outlet for bloody-minded brutal mass-murder, it will trickle out somewhere else.

We picked up Blair in early 2015, signing on to help ‘reform’ Aleksander Vucic’s government of Serbia. This after bombing the crap out of Belgrade and not unnaturally then being the subject of a book edited by Vucic called, in translation, English Gay Fart Tony Blair, written by Vojislav Seselj, and published in 2005. He’s deeply embedded there now, and has just popped up again, which might be connected with Sawiris Air’s visit to Belgrade in July, followed closely by a call from Mrs. Mogherini.

Note the close links with Abu Dhabi, who allegedly paid for Blair’s original consultancy, with Mohammed Dahlan, who is a leading contender for Mahmoud Abbas’s presidency of the PA in Xrael, the better to serve Xraeli interests; and also note the EU-tropic nature of Vucic’s conversion from strident nationalist populism to cuddly West-facing bunny*. The article is a good summary of the position.

Entirely typical that he should have switched sides: we suspect the high regard in which he has been held in Kosovo since the Balkan conflict may slip somewhat, though.

*Though keeping a number of options open vis-a-vis Russia.
