I read Lavrov’s speech Peacewisher. But no I could not find anything to disagree with in it. The perpetual question which keeps being asked of the Washington hawks is if Russia has been supplying weapons and troops (other than volunteers) to Eastern Ukraine where is the evidence. Not an iota despite independent monitoring and the US advanced satellite systems. Neither has the US supplied any satellite evidence of what happened to MH17.

Not only are the yanks fiscally bankrupt, they are morally bankrupt. All they can think of is “Lets have another war and see what we can rob.”

  • Peacewisher

John… yes, I know. Someone else very sensibly said that if one side actually start to believe their tissue of lies there is no longer any scope for discussion and diplomacy, and war is inevitable. What a frightening thought. Europe wake up!

    Evgueni,

    You said:-

“None of the above. I understand presenting false alternatives is a common technique among lawyers, but it’s an easy one to spot.

There is of course a danger that I contract a nasty meme whilst visiting. Will Self’s Quantity Theory of Insanity could turn out to be true”

But finish the sentence + “for thyself”

    Evgueni,

Please – fight for something – do something.

Don’t just live because – but, because something means something enough to you to do something about it.

In which case there are no trolls on here as there is no evidence that what you term “conversation” has been “drowned out”.

But feel free to demonstrate, with examples, of how “conversation” has been “drowned out”.

Yes please! Perhaps you could also furnish a list of, say, the twenty most regular posters on here? Glenn might help you with the statistics if you’re feeling challenged. Looking forward to reading you.

I don’t anyone serious has been arguing that the rebel’s weapons (e.g. tanks, armoured vehicles, missiles etc. have not been supplied from Russia. As for evidence of Russian troops

What makes you think Putin is threatened by democratic values?

Is this really a serious question – if so perhaps Herbie might start by looking at what happens to tv stations and newspapers in Russia that express opposition to Putin, then he can look at what has happened to Navalny and his supporters, then he can look at what has happened to regional government in the Russian Federation, then he can look at what is meant by the “vertical of power”, then he might wish to look at where state contracts are awarded, then he might look at a few rigged election results, then he might look at the capital outflows that have occurred in Russia since Putin took over (despite Russian law ostensibly outlawing Ruissians having foreign banks accounts and shares without the prior permission of the Central Bank of Russia – and sales of most raw materials also requiring state permission, then he might look at Putin’s $5bn mansion and consider how a man on his official declared salary of less than £100k maneges to make ends meet etc. etc.

    RobG: I wrote,

“RobG, Craig has specifically asked, a number of times, that people address arguments rather than ascribing motives to commenters. I agree with him”

    and you asked:

“Clark, does the sexual abuse and murder of children come into what you say? (I did provide a link above)”

The trading of insults is what drowns out discussion.

Our ability to post comments here is not threatened. Our situation on these comment threads is different from a physical conflict. No physical force can be inflicted.

Each commenter has the choice between restraint and retaliation. Only restraint can preserve the environment in which discussion is possible. Insult and accusations can always be returned, and possibly escalated.

    From a book I read:

“If I can make you angry I have passed your guard again; I have given you something to think about besides the game”

“The game” was deadly, a game of catch with knives. Get distracted, fail to catch, and you could die.

  • Clark

Resident Dissident, my words above are for you, too. I consider you a good and genuine commenter. Leave John Goss out of it, eh? He’s not the enemy, or even if he is, he’s nothing like the threat posed by the great powers, especially if their conflict were to escalate.

  • Clark

It isn’t a case of which “side” is right, or which is more evil than the other. Conflict itself is the only “enemy”, peace the only worthwhile goal, out there in the world and here on these comment threads.

Who started it cannot be addressed until it is stopped; stopping the conflict has to be the first priority.

The opposing “sides” in this argument are both right. The US is evil, and Russia is evil. Only people matter, not states.

Sky News – Prince Charles: UK Youth Extremism ‘Alarming’
The Prince describes radicalisation among Britain’s youth as one of his “greatest worries” as he starts his Middle East tour.

Was he perhaps thinking of the three young Jewish males in the Finchley QT audience who were allowed to ask a loaded question and then shout loudly at George Galloway throughout his answer? Galloway followed Freedland’s slippery spiel.

Dimbleby apparently apologized to GG afterwards for allowing the question which was supplemented with the charge of GG’s aiding of antisemitism. That was not the agreed version. That does not wash as the programme does not go out live so could easily have been edited.

If you want to know how the CST produce their figures of AS incidents see:

Lies damned lies and CST statistics – Freedland slippery with the numbers
Posted by CJ on February 7, 2015, 6:50 pm, in reply to “George Galloway accuses BBC over Question Time ‘set-up'”

There was one extreme violence action the equivalent of GBH, none last year but 2 the year before. There were 80 other violent actions some of which were by minors (11) and 19 of the 80 were by thrown objects from cars (mostly eggs).
Other incidents out of the 1165 would include jewish people feeling that they had been insulted because they were jewish.

No-one wants to see any insulting behaviour of anyone but to hype these results, as Freedland and the CST do, produces demands for arming jewish people and justifying special police protection – totally without any justification.

No-one wants an “arms race” between abuse of Jewish people and Muslims but why is there no comparable number of incidents of islamophobia produced by the MSM? They even failed to mention the gbh committed by a jewish male against GG which seemed almost as bad as the incident of gbh quoted by the CST.

I did not call Tim a troll. I said he sounded like THE troll who on several occasions has even described himself as such.

We have had a nice quiet time on this thread from 4 Feb 11.24am when Craig wrote until 6 Feb, 2015 – 5:20 pm in the absence of you know who.

  • Resident Dissident

“Resident Dissident, for God’s sake stop attacking other commenters. Please, please stop making enemies!”

I didn’t attack the commenter – I attacked the comment and asked questions in response. Very little point in having a blog if people cannot challenge the comments made. I note that you make no criticism of Mr Goss’s original comment – which of course directly contradicts what I have said previously – and supports one superpowers position while denigrating the other.

  • John Goss

“Is Mr Goss also accusing Amnesty International of lying?”

None of what you have presented is factual. I think the Amnesty International satellite images turned out to be Farm machinery but I can’t quite make it out from the photo. Like I said not an iota of evidence, just one spook with an agenda.

“The Other West” (if I was a Carpenter…)

Moving letter to the Saker from an ordinary American:

    http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.co.uk/

Meanwhile, Habby and RD are trashing the people on this site who are prepared to discuss truth and propaganda. War with Russia means nuclear war. Is that really what we want?

Playing poker with a nuclear button is really not where humanity should be at the current stage of our development.

An aged ex ambassador to Moscow in Thatcher’s and Major’s time has produced this warmongering piece in the Independent. He is 82.

    Rodric Braithwaite
    Sunday 8 February 2015

Ukraine crisis: Russia must be told to endorse the ceasefire – or we’ll arm the Ukrainians
The West – including the BBC – should take on Moscow’s fraudulent propaganda, but Britain seems unengaged
    http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/ukraine-crisis-russia-must-be-told-to-endorse-the-ceasefire–or-well-arm-the-ukrainians-10031250.html

The old saw about wisdom coming with age is disproved.

That remark will probably provoke a comment from You Know Who who sees me as old as Methuselah but he is way out.

  • Peacewisher

“Independent” it may have been around the time of the Iraq war, Mary, but they seem to have lost their common sense and humanity over the years in deference to corporate help to boost their circulation and hitrate.

People talk a lot about Orwell’s 1984 (the end product), but “Animal Farm” is a lot simpler, and tells a similar story of manipulation of a gullible public. We are closer to Animal Farm…

  • Clark

Resident Dissident, 10:01 am; sorry, I overstated that. What I meant was that you phrased your comments almost entirely in terms of “does John Goss think X.., is John Goss accusing Y.., if so perhaps Herbie Z..,” etc. etc. When you direct your comments at other commenters, it gives the impression that you’re opposing the commenters rather than Russian actions.

RD, I wrote my to you (1) because your comments were more recent and (2) because I hoped you might take notice.

Please just post your evidence and links. We need the row to subside in order to nurture clarity.

  • Resident Dissident

“None of what you have presented is factual.”

On what basis are you saying that? I could produce a lot more iotas of evidence, but if you will always attack the source rather than the evidence itself – then there is very little that will change your mind. What evidence will you accept? Does it have to be a personal admission from Mr Putin like he provided on the Crimea when he admitted that there had been Russian troops from the beginning.

  • Resident Dissident

    Mr Goss

Are you still arguing that Russia hasn’t supplied the rebel’s weapons?

  • Peacewisher

RD. I enjoy debating with you, but John Goss was right to be very, very annoyed with you for taking his moniker, and he was good enough to accept your sort-of apology at the time.

Anyway, back to debate. Which is worse: bloodless annexation of Crimea by Russia or a very bloody US-supported coup (Obama has now admitted as much, can supply you with many Internet references) for the whole of Ukraine?
