Oh, stop Habb, you’ll have me reaching for the Andrex hankies in a minute, you’re bringing tears to my glass eye.

Now let me see, a dirty stone, or a bouquet of beautiful flowers…Hmm.

    One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
    Don’t do anything at all
    Go ask Alice
    When she’s ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you’re going to fall
Tell ’em a hookah smoking caterpillar
    Has given you the call
    To call Alice
    When she was just small

When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you’ve just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
    Go ask Alice
    I think she’ll know

    When logic and proportion
    Have fallen slowly dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen’s off with her head
    Remember what the dormouse said
“Feed your head, feed your head”

“I can see that analogy Tim. But the big difference is that Russia, until now, has not intervened other than supplying humanitarian aid even though those in the Donbass self-declared republics want to be part of Russia.”

Well if you are going to tell a lie tell a big one.

  • Resident Dissident

I was just wondering whether you have been in touch with “Left Unity” yet about our mutual friend?

I haven’t yet – haven’t had the time, I think I’ll let him stew a little longer – also toying with the idea of revealing my identity so I can sue for libel if he repeats his slurs.

The vast majority of weapons in this unnecessary conflict in Ukraine on both sides were supplied by Russia. But that was before the coup. Where is your evidence that Russia has supplied weapons since the civil war was started. Yes Putin came up through the KGB. But his actions have shown him not to be an agressor. I am surprised at you not wanting a region that wants its own autonomy, and has voted for it in a referendum to have its freedom.

Do you believe in coups or referenda?

  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)

The same tear as when you were talking about Lord Brittan, you old fraud? 🙂

“I haven’t yet – haven’t had the time, I think I’ll let him stew a little longer – also toying with the idea of revealing my identity so I can sue for libel if he repeats his slurs.”

What a pillock – two in fact with the sidekick in his little blue hat with its tinkling bell offering support. Do you think I give a shit! I bet everybody on the blog has been laughing his or her socks off at this pathetic threat. Just do it. Please!

“Yes Putin came up through the KGB. But his actions have shown him not to be an agressor.”
    _______________

If that were a real typo I wouldn’t bother to comment, but that is the second time you’ve misspelt “aggressor”.

Which in turn makes me wonder if you haven’t just been cutting and pasting from a script you’ve got next to your PC.

    Big Ears, Small Eyes.

“Do you believe in coups or referenda?”
    __________________

I can understand why you ask that question.

It is because you have coups on the brain.

But that is, on brief reflection, not surprising.

After all, the Soviet Union, whose thinking and modus operandi you so much admire and model yourself on was itself founded on a coup, was it not?

    October 1917 refers.

  • Ba'al Zevul

Do you believe in coups or referenda?

I believe 90% of Ukraine voted for autonomy, and I believe the treaties surrounding its establishment as autonomous are binding on all parties.

Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will be next. This bugger’s after the old Mother Russia. You like? You like more than the Balts do?

  • Habbabkuk (la vita è bella)

    Mr Goss

Well, it is up to RD whether or not he gets in touch with Left Unity.

Now, some on this blog may be laughing, but you will not be the next time you arrive at the Polish border.

  • Peacewisher

@RD: If anyone had spoken to you about Ukraine before 1991, I’m sure you would have said it was part of the Soviet union. After all, no-one blamed the Ukrainians for Chernobyl.. it was all the Soviet’s doing.

I didn’t realise that Ukraine was on a different track, until I found, to my shock, that they had signed up to become part of “the coalition of the willing”. Thankfully, they didn’t stay with it for very long, but wasn’t there then “The Orange Revolution”?

The post-coup Ukraine government is genocidal. Their actions to date (5000+ civilians bombed to bits) is ample evidence.

@Habby… as you wish, but the facts do not support you.

@Ba’al: in the words of John McEnroe “You cannot be serious”. If the coup put Ukraine into US control (sorry, sphere of interest) it would put a major Russia base (their only warm water port) into US hands. They did what they had to.

All here who seem to support the coup and who seem to wish to trash Russia… I don’t see how you can expect anything good to come of this. It took much longer for the neocons to destroy

I’m no Putinista, by the way… but don’t like to see malicious lies spread around to drum up public support for war. We had enough of that before Iraq was bombed back to the middle ages. That should itself have been a wake up call…

    Dross

My grandfather of whom I am extremely proud fought the Nazis in WW2, my wife’s grandfather died fighting the Germans as a tank commander in the Red Army, I never took subsidised cycling tours to Poland while it was part of the Soviet Empire or to Ceausecu’s Romania (neither did I lament that murderous thug’s death), I have worked in Poland, Russia and many of the former republics including Ukraine and have numerous relatives in Russia including some whose graves I visited at Easter, I never claimed that Guantanamo was worse than Castro’s Gulag, I do not support authoritarian governments whatever their complexion, I don’t link to websites pushing Holocaust denial, the Protocols of Zion, Anti semitism for blaming the Rothchilds for goodness knows what, I have been on anti facsist demonstrations against British Nazis, I have canvassed for the Labour Party when it stands against fascists and have been threatened for my efforts, my heroes include people like Orwell and Christopher Hitchems who have an impeccable record of standing up to Nazis. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself – I don’t think even your ignorance can now be offered as a defence.

  • John Goss

“I believe 90% of Ukraine voted for autonomy, and I believe the treaties surrounding its establishment as autonomous are binding on all parties.”

Ba’al there was a vote in the 1990s which less than two years later I believe was nothing like 90%. Last year Eastern Ukraine voted for autonomy by 90% +. Should they have it or should they be torn apart by military hardware?

  • Peacewisher

@RD: Fantastic! If all of those things are true, and with that proud, impressive, and moving record, you should, for sure, be supporting the Donbass people in their bid for Independence against what is fascist in all but name (and some are fascist in name as well). Now why is it that, instead, you are supporting genocide?

  • Resident Dissident

“Yes Putin came up through the KGB. But his actions have shown him not to be an agressor.”

Tell that to the Chechens, the Georgians, the Crimean Tatars, Navalny, Yushenko, Litvinenko and many many more. Boy they must have looked after you on your cycling tours.

  • John Goss

“I don’t think even your ignorance can now be offered as a defence.”

No, but I’ll excuse your ignorance, but not your support for the Nazi thugs in Kiev (who you have supported from the start) even after I posted photographs of the way they have murdered civilians in Eastern Ukraine, you still continue to support them. They started the war, like Hitler did in Germany, hence the comparison. I am happy to link to Professor’s blog again to show the poor innocents murdered by Kiev who just wanted a peaceful life under the Russian umbrella? Would you like that. And then still tell me you support them.

  • Resident Dissident

Ba’al there was a vote in the 1990s which less than two years later I believe was nothing like 90%.

Wrong yet again – the vote was in 1991 (a very bad year for your boys so you probably ignore it) and 92% voted for autonomy under rather freer conditions than last years fiasco (which even the Kremlim mistakenly leaked that they had rigged).

  • John Goss

“which even the Kremlim mistakenly leaked that they had rigged”

There you go again. You never miss an opportunity to try and transpose the unholy mess your boys in Kiev have created in eastern Ukraine. Do you really think that the brave fighters in Donetsk who have pushed back this Nazi evil would ever vote for your lot again. They hate you.

  • Peacewisher

    Being positive:

Merkel, Hollande, Putin, and Poroshenko are meeting on Wednesday for Minsk part II

Borders as is plus 40 km “exclusion zone” between warring parties

    Being even more positive:

The neo-cons don’t seem to have been invited.

  • Resident Dissident

    They started the war,

No they didn’t – the rebels seized buildings from the authorities and started torturing and abducting those loyal to Kyiv before the Government started any military action – there was even a lengthy ceasefire before action commenced. If you think any govt of a sovereign territory is going to siut back while its territory is claimed in such a fashiopn you are ven more deluded than I thought. Similar logic to your own was used by Stalin when he invaded Poland in 1939.

If Kyiv started the war perhaps you might wish to explain how Crimea and all those Govt building in Eastern Ukraine were taken before the Kyiv Govt even fired a shot in anger?? The floor is all yours

And if you want to look at real fascism in action perhaps you might consider the behaviour of some of the thugs in the so called People’s Republic of Donetsk.

  • Arbed

On the topic of “Wow”… (hard to be off-topic on this thread, haha)

On 1st January Sweden rewrote its constitution – and its previously exemplary Press Freedom laws – to create the two new offences involving “foreign espionage” and publishing information that “affect[s] any matter of a secret nature” in military operations in which Sweden is participating (eg, Afghanistan).

Here’s the law reform. Proposed Feb 2013, effective Jul 2014 and constitution changed 1 January 2015:

Enhanced criminal law protection against espionage
    http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.advokatsamfundet.se%2FNyhetsarkiv%2F2013%2FFebruari%2FForstarkt-straffrattsligt-skydd-mot-spioneri%2F

    Background:

War Journalism needs to be free
    http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=sv&u=http://www.expressen.se/debatt/krigsjournalistik-maste-fa-vara-fri/&prev=search

It’s not mentioned explicitly here but the new law also covers “harm” to any of Sweden’s military partners, therefore enabling it to be used to extradite publishers of info on US war crimes in countries in which Sweden has a military presence – for example, war crimes detailed in Wikileaks’ Afghan War Diaries.

No cigar for guessing who this legislation is aimed at.

    Mr Goss

You are free to sue whenever you want – just ask Craig for the ISP. he also has my email and I’m sure you can get my details from Google – I somehow doubt you have the balls. Unfortunately operating under a pseudonym such a luxury is not available to me – which is of course something that you know, hence your behaviour.

  • John Goss

They declared independence in Eastern Ukraine and since that time they have had to fight off the fascists you have supported from the start. You grandfather on your wife’s side would be ashamed of you.

  • John Goss

“Unfortunately operating under a pseudonym such a luxury is not available to me”

🙂 Well I’m glad you’re only operating under one pseudonym. I doubt Craig would pass on your email. But you have mine because you used it in one of your disguises. So why don’t you pass it on. If you have the balls.

  • Resident Dissident

which even the Kremlim mistakenly leaked that they had rigged

It wa sthe Cirmean referendum that they rigged – they haven’t recognised those in Eastern Ukraine.

  • Resident Dissident

Craig would have no choice but to hand on my email if the Court requested it – and I would have no objection whatsover to him doing so.

  • Resident Dissident

You grandfather on your wife’s side would be ashamed of you.

Fuck off you stupid cunt – perhaps given that his father died in the Gulag he might have had a slightly different perspective of Putin from the one that have with your tongue up his arse.
