Seems some of us don’t like the suggestion that Putin might be less white than the driven snow (‘doncha eat the yellow snow…’- Zappa) and that Tony M is looking vainly for irony in a post of mine.

Job done, voltairenet, et al. Поздравляю!

Peacewisher – I have thought for a while your voice was familiar. Did you once work for Radio Moscow? Nice to hear from you again, and to see that the style hasn’t changed…

  • Peacewisher

LOL, Ba’al. If objective thinking means “working for Moscow”, my case rests re your lack of analysis.

  • Tony M

The ‘White Book’ document was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in April 2014, it has nothing to do with voltairenet. It has been widely available from a wide range of internet sources for quite some time.

  • Ba'al Zevul

Not seeing much ‘analysis’ from you, Peacewisher. Surprising. Radio Moscow used to use the term a lot. It meant ‘tendentious analysis’ back then.

Analysis: Putin is riding a patriotic wave. Craftily, he’s even got the Orthodox Church back on side. He – and the nationalistic public – resent the territorial losses in Central Asia and Europe, loss of influence everywhere, and, perhaps especially, the loss of an effective Mediterranean outpost in Syria, which have occurred as a result of the Soviet Union’s disintegration. He’ll take back as much as he can get away with. And he’ll tell the world that no, this isn’t his intention, he’s a cuddly bunny and Obama microwaves kittens. And he is, isn’t he? RT tells you he is: he must be.

    Pfft.

  • Peacewisher

@Ba’al: What do you think of Poroshenko’s latest dramatics…

No doubt this source “Poroshenko unveils vial of anthrax” will make you even more speculative about me:

    http://russia-insider.com/en/2015/02/08/3244

It is as simple as that… they are using the same techniques that they used to demonise Saddam. It was a lie then, and it is a real whopper this time! Pleeeaase wake up!

  • Ba'al Zevul

Not even slightly sceptical about a Russian government document, obviously commissioned by Putin, highlighting alleged human rights violations in Ukraine? And wholly dismissive, of course, of Khodorkovsky’s IMR report on political prisoners in Russia, no doubt. With names, dates and details.

    http://imrussia.org/en/projects/political-prisoners/649-the-list-of-persons-recognized-as-political-prisoners-by-russias-memorial-human-rights-center

This is the dis/misinformation side of a shooting war, chaps. Both sides are lying through their teeth when it suits them. And telling the unvarnished truth when it will embarrass the other side.(In terms of tactics, Russia and Ukraine are virtually indistinguishable)

  • Ba'al Zevul

Not speculation, Peacewisher. The style is so familiar, I’d take a small bet. Now you flood the blog with Russian-sourced items to the discredit of Ukraine. Plenty of those to choose from, aren’t there? And, of course, vice versa.

“Two questions: Does Washington ever learn? Why does Westminster toe the line without question?”

In August 2013 something quite extraordinary happened: the UK Parliament voted against military intervention in Syria…

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/29/british-parliament-syria-vote_n_3839067.html

… albeit it was close, with the nays winning by just 13 votes. As far as I’m aware this was the first time that the UK went against the US, on a major military matter, since the 1960s, when Harold Wilson refused to commit British troops to the Vietnam war.

Shortly after the UK nay vote in August 2013, Obama tried to get the US Congress to authorise military intervention in Syria, and failed…

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/12/syria-iraq_n_3909288.html

It’s probably fair to say that politicians, both in the UK and US, realised that the people wouldn’t stand another Iraq-style adventure in the Middle East.

Ever since then the ISIS stuff has been ramped-up, including execution videos with ‘Jihad Johnny’ talking in his clipped, public school accent (I don’t know where MI6 get ’em from these days). There’s now a complete hysteria about ISIS, all whipped up by the neo-con controlled MSM, with calls for ‘boots on the ground’.

But I think even the most rabid reader of the Daily Rag realises that there’s something completely Alice In Wonderland about ISIS, whether it’s the origins of these nutters, or their funding, or the fact that they are a ragtail army with no heavy weaponary or proper communications.

I would say that ISIS are not a sign that the Middle East is out of control, but more that western governments and their security services are completely out of control.

Mary; “Merkel is off to Washington to consult with the warmonger a in a chief. What a busy little lady!”

    Looks more like NATO is divided as US & UK oppose peace efforts;

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/uk-wont-accept-russian-separatist-rebel-gains-in-ukraine-says-hammond-10031106.html

    Meanwhile more Ukrainian snippets;

“It may seem a paradox,” says Transcarpathia’s chief recruitment officer, “but from the western Ukrainian region of Ternopyl people have fled to Russia in order to escape army conscription.”

“the Ukrainian parliament has passed a law authorizing local commanders to shoot deserters on the spot”

  • nevermind

Thanks for that Mary, but its only a few billion they are talking about here. These banks have accounts in most offshore havens in order to be able to move arms deals over various accounts around the world and to stash their QE money received.
No bank should be allowed in any of these low tax domiciles.

@Clark, is it time to buy a new second hand car? or is it just a trifle such as brake pads?

  • Peacewisher

You are just incredible, Ba’al! You’re so good at making things up about people you should work for the warmongers. Excuse me for daring to think; or rather, for daring to express my thoughts.

I’ll try once more… Ukraine bombs the hell out of Donbass from June last year onwards, kills upwards of 5000 people, bombs getting bigger and brighter, and yet Russia is the aggressor. Surely logic tells you that there is something incompatible with this assessment.

  • John Goss

Peacewisher Ba’al is an enigma. On the one hand he supports the downtrodden, on the other he would like to see us cyclists driven off the road. True, he does not, or chooses not to see who the aggressor is in Ukraine, but then it is surprising how many others support the coup and civil-war funded by Yankee-doodle-dandy big business.

Since the year 2000 there have been 34 (not 3-4) US military interventions including what they euphemistically term “humanitarian aid” but discounting CIA led regime changes such as Ukraine. And Vladimir Putin, who has been president since then, is the bad guy.

    Wake up world!

  • Clark

Good morning Mary, Ba’al, Nevermind, Resident Dissident. Mornin’ to a few others too.

Nevermind, it’s a ruptured suspension pipe; elaborate Citroen suspension, but the part shouldn’t be too expensive.

So this is what we get from letting money get out of control. All those billions; I often wondered what they could possibly want such quantities for. There’s really only one game that’s expensive enough to account for it.

    War.

  • Clark

Stupid cowards, buying people to live out their internal conflicts for them. If they want to get into something big, something challenging, they should get involved in space exploration, like Mark Shuttleworth did.

  • Clark

Now, which should I address first? Heads or tails?

Resident Dissident, you’re spot on when you criticise Putin and his oligarchs’ exploitation of the Russian people and Russian nationalism, but I wish you’d acknowledge the importance of “Western” proxy incitement and interference.

John Goss & supporters, you’re spot on when you criticise “Western” proxy incitement and interference, but I wish you’d acknowledge the importance of Putin and his oligarchs’ exploitation of the Russian people and Russian nationalism.

Can’t you lot see? This is the mega-rich playing games against each other, using ordinary people as pawns and cannon-fodder.

Oh, I left one out. Mornin’ Habbabkuk, how are your investments doing? I doubt you’ll find it this much fun after the war, though.

  • nevermind

John Goss, I don’t think Ba’al meant to see cyclists driven off the road, more likely he meant that there should be cycle path next to the road, as in Holland Germany France Danemark, etc. etc. no need for an expensive pilot program, just to adopt the lesser risk position and make this the norm, every major road with a cycle path next to it, not painted on it. It is our planners who are effectively, by their planning actions, make cycling a danger and are pitching cyclists against car drivers. You want to read some of the comments when a new cycle path is opened anywhere, its appalling, the hatred is palpable and totally unnecessary.

Peacewisher, how did ms Nuland/John kerry smuggle that vile of anthrax into the Ukraine I wonder. This is just another fable spun and today’s explosion reeks of Kiev’s desperation, lob anything they’ve got.

  • nevermind

Citroen parts are not the cheapest Clark, But we will have a nice sunny week ahead, which makes for some comfort.

Just to join others in their attempt to rekindle the issue.

Why would it not be to the benefit of the SNP if they would be seen as supporting democratic change here in England?
All they have to do is to make ‘choice for a proportional system in England, before any devolution’ one of their coalition demands. This would not only endear them to English voters, but also justify their demand to have a say on English affairs.

If, on the other hand, this is just all about the SNP and Scotland, cold shouldering the most dire needs of the English, I mean, the mostly non voting general public would just shrug their shoulders and take it like a dog, then the system has gone totally wrong and skew-width.

Wishing almost everyone here a great sunny week, well if you’re not living in Dakota

    http://www.currentresults.com/Weather/South-Dakota/annual-snowfall.php

  • Herbie

Well, let’s look on the bright side.

It doesn’t look as if the West is getting its way in Ukraine.

    That may change of course.

The longer Russia can hold out against the West’s plans for global domination, the better for everyone.

That way the world remains diversified and multipolar.

And it would be so really really silly for Europeans to fall for the world war trick again, where the Americans just pile in after the slaughter and pick up the pieces for themselves.

  • nevermind

As for the moderation taking the Guardians action as a guide here, I’m not so sure. Its easy for the Guardian to scream, but their moderation policy is
WITHOUT RHYME OF REASON, or, they are unable to distinguish between what they call #’community standards’ and satire/cabaret and/or downright political facts.

They have banned me for supporting Craig’s stance on torture and his stance on the Guardians pathetic destruction of hard discs with a hammer, no swear words or personal denigration on my part, they made a fool of themselves destroying information that was already stored elsewhere.

If they now class all of their NATO critical comments as Russian trolls, a very easy label/argument to throw up for further tightening of public responses and comments, then that should not necessarily mean this blog should also be subjected to such irrationality from its , if I may say so, very moderated and egalitarian moderation.

  • Ba'al Zevul

The longer Russia can hold out against the West’s plans for global domination, the better for everyone.

What do we want? Russian global domination! When do we want it? Errr, just a minute. Have you seen how Russia is run, actually?

on the other he would like to see us cyclists driven off the road…

Stick to the issues you don’t understand, Gossie.

Nevermind; it’s a bit like that Iranian “wiping Israel off the map” item, isn’t it? Let me say now, that I never intended cyclists to be “driven off the road”. My preference is for them to be vaporised in situ, to avoid the unpleasant task of disposing of the sweaty Lycra-clad bodies…

Morning, Clark. The suspension pipe is a bugger. I have a friend who is deeply in love with that Citroen feature, as you possibly are, but it’s one more thing to maintain and repair, sadly.

  • John Goss

Good morning Clark. I agree with part of your comment. I don’t come on here to support people who support fascists. Putin no doubt has his faults but from what I’ve seen and read he is 1,000% better than US and Uk neocons who are trying to establish New World Disorder everywhere because their economy is down the pan. Putin’s new deal with Egypt in Roubles could be the turning point.

When is the US going to pay off its National Debt?

  • Herbie

The Chinese have been quite supportive of Russia in this fight with the West. Others of the BRICS and non-aligned too.

There’s probably a lot more going on here than can be resolved by analyzing the various personalities.

When a foreign leader is day and daily demonised by the whole of Western media, in lockstep, you already know it’s a bit of a fraud.

  • Herbie

It isn’t a question of Western global domination against Russian global domination.

The West currently has the means to global domination as soon as it neuters Russia.

Russia has no means to global domination, even as if it holds off the West.

That’s why it’s a choice between a unipolar world or a multipolar world.

  • Mary

Hi Clark. We had of those Sit Rowins’ with the magic hydraulic suspension system. Never felt a thing over a pothole or similar but the repair bills……well!

Anybody else having trouble getting the Medialens Message Board? I can get the Medialens home page http://members5.boardhost.com/medialens/ but get the 404 for the message board.

    ~~

Ref Nevermind’s ‘nice sunny week’. Where? Here it is cold and overcast.

  • Ba'al Zevul

The West currently has the means to global domination as soon as it neuters Russia.

Think you must have missed the globalist agenda somewhere along the line. It’s not Western any more. And whether it’s the citizens of countries who have surrendered their economic sovereignty to some numbered accounts in tax havens, or citizens in a crippled economy dependent on exporting raw materials to feed the consumer culture outside…we’ve all been absorbed. It’s here. The choice is between oligarch-corrupted democracy or oligarch-backed autocracy. Spot the common factor.

  • Herbie

    Global domination is here!!

    No, it’s not.

You’re thinking of the global village.

Global domination cannot take place until Russia is neutered.

That’s why they’ve been trying to neuter it.
