BLiar is visiting a village in rural Rwanda.
The Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV) is a residential community in rural Rwanda. Its 144 acres are home to youth who were orphaned during and after the genocide in 1994…..the name of the Village is intended as a reminder of the success of similar efforts in Israel, where a significant portion of the population had to recover from genocide at the hands of the nazis in WWII.
A unique set of partners have come together to make the dream of ASYV a reality. This project brings together a team of passionate and seasoned professionals, as well as volunteers, from the United States, Israel and Rwanda.
From the United States – The ASYV began as a special project of The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) non-sectarian international development program. The JDC, an international humanitarian organization, agreed to offer logistical support for the project.
From Israel – The philosophy and methodologies of ASYV are guided by the Israeli experience in absorbing orphans following the Holocaust. ASYV’s educational partner, the Yemin Orde Educational Initiatives was initially founded in 1953 to care for orphans of the Holocaust. Now the leading prototype of the youth village model, Yemin Orde has developed unique techniques for what ASYV aspires to provide its youth—opportunities to study, grow, and develop into adults who have the ability and desire to become contributing members of society.

I had a look at one of the latest photos, and he’s the same height as Hollande. But what has height got to do with it anyway? I’ve always thought that in ‘foreign affairs’ Putin is calm and collected and doesn’t act impulsively.
I know in the US you haven’t a hope of getting into the White House if you’re not tall and sort-of reasonably good-looking, but that doesn’t apply on this side of the pond. Which makes me wonder what the Yanks make of our tiny little president. 🙂

I would hazard the guess that someone who thinks it was wrong for the Irish Nationalists to hold the balance of power in Parliament must also disapprove of Ireland having achieved independence.

The European Union (EU) is planning to impose new sanctions against Israel over its illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories a day after the regime revealed its plans to build more settler units in the West Bank, a report says.
EU officials are “talking about sanctions against companies that do business across the border; about legal measures taken by the Palestinians with regard to the settlements; and about the renewed proposal to establish a Palestinian state through the Security Council,” Israel’s Haaretz daily cited unnamed Israeli officials as saying on Tuesday.
Discussions have been going on over the measures in the last few months, the officials said.
“This isn’t something that’s being pushed forward by some group of junior officials,” one of the officials said, adding, “All members of the union are partners in this process, and are helping it move forward.

The Russian foreign minister says his country will consider any request from Greece for financial aid as Athens seeks to renegotiate a massive bailout with its European partners.
“If there are any appeals… from the Greek government, these appeals of course will be considered,” AFP quoted Sergey Lavrov as saying during a Wednesday visit by his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias.
Greece’s Defense Minister Panos Kammenos had warned Tuesday that if negotiations with the eurozone fail, Athens will go to a “Plan B”, which could involve asking for funding from China, Russia or the United States.

Thirty years later, twelve of them spent as an air force pilot himself, Shapira rejected the military. In 2003, he wrote a letter, pledging not to fly over the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The state has filed an indictment against Rabbi Yona Metzger, former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi, for bribery, fraud, money laundering and other crimes.
Rabbi Metzger is suspected of accepting NIS 10 million in bribes, of which he personally pocketed NIS 7 million. A state witness aided the investigation carried out against the rabbi and recorded him in conversations. The indictment follows a recommendation by the police and the attorney general.
The rabbi is being indicted for corruption and receiving illicit donations valued at millions of shekels in exchange for services he conducted as part of his role as chief rabbi. Metzger has been informed of the indictment.
