    There does seem to be a predisposition to regard Putin as the saviour of the world from the (fully acknowledged) evils of globalised capitalism. Unfortunately he is as subject to this as anyone else, as his oligarchs are telling him with increasing urgency. A pause in the proceedings was definitely indicated for reasons absolutely unconnected with the oil price crash, poor markets for raw materials, and, whisper it, sanctions.

    Having undertaken to remove weaponry from the war zone, he has the additional problem of finding weaponry to remove, as he has consistently denied having any there. Well, ok, that’s not a problem when you think about it, and he has. Awaiting with interest the successful implementation of the ceasefire, and its equally successful breach or circumvention, leading to the successful annexation of at least the coastal strip connecting Crimea with Mother Russia, within…oooh…six months, shall we say?

    Or maybe we’ll see a piecemeal nibbling at Ukraine’s Eastern border, reminiscent of Israel’s inroads into its occupied territory. Inspirational, those, Israelis. Strange how double standards seem to be operating here.

    Wait and see. The show ain’t over.

    That’s right Mary. I’ve met her and as you might guess, with a name like Ewa, is of Polish extraction. They are a great bunch of people and very brave. Obviously UAV Engines Ltd, Shenstone, do not want the adverse publicity that they are killing innocents abroad. They used to make motorbikes. Plowshares into swords.

    Habbabkuk used to criticise the “good-sized crowd” that gather outside this factory of death asking for numbers. I think the answer to that question is enough numbers to make a big difference. Others must get involved in the important work of stopping the US/Israeli warmongers. It can be done. And with the important victory of Syriza leading the way all of Europe can look forward to better days. Remember when you got a grant to go to university. That’s the big change over thirty years. New Labour (the party that Resident Dissident infiltrated to change into another Tory Party) has a lot to answer for.

    Clark, afraid not. I went to Belarus for a month in 1981 five years before the disaster. But I haven’t heard of this programme. I do know that the Sellafield surrounding area has one of the highest rates of childhood leukemia in the country. I would not want to live there.

    All of us have been drawn to Craig’s blog by Craig’s truth-telling and his compassion for ordinary people abused by governments; surely all of us here must have many objectives in common. I think we all need to ACTIVELY SEARCH for agreement – permitting ourselves to be dragged into the propaganda battles of the great powers is all too easy. Increasing sanity and compassion in the world requires great effort.

    That is what has happened in Ukraine. It has gone from being a stable country with an elected government to another US-imposed changed regime of NAZIS and NAZI sympathisers. Anybody who cannot see this is blind. It is Palestine but worse.

    I hope the peace holds. It is unlikely because Kiev are unlikely to let it. The country is bankrupt yet the USA wants to put more money behind these thugs.

    I do think it worthwhile for every poster to recognize that Ashton Carter, the new American Secretary of Defense, has been given the world’s greatest economy to take some kind of control in the Middle East whether it is making sure that the subject Arabs are kept in line by arming or bombing or difficult regimes are simply eradicated.

    It’s like what Hitler was trying to do in Europe, but Carter has much more hard and soft power to do so.
