A bill submitted by an MP from President Poroshenko’s party in the Ukrainian parliament seeks to criminalize public speech that reject the government’s narrative on the civil war, which it describes as a Russian military invasion.

The controversial bill amends the Ukrainian criminal code to make “public denial or justification of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine in 2014-2015” a felony.

The ‘crime’ would carry a penalty ranging from a heavy fine and up to a five-year jail term for repeat offences or convicts who held public office.

    …………………………..

Not being allowed to question the narrative, only makes people want to question it even more, it reminds me of other historical events, that we are not allowed to question, without fear of imprisonment.

As a condition of a ceasefire the rebels insisted on what roughly translates to “Providing pardon and amnesty by way of enacting a law forbids prosecution and punishment of persons in relation to events that took place in specific parts of Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine.”

    Wonder what that refers to.

A rally against mobilization was due to take place on Sunday in Mariupol, when would-be participants were threatened with arrest by Ukraine Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko.

Addressing his followers on Facebook, Gerashchenko wrote that: “Everyone who comes tomorrow [Sunday Feb 8] to the meeting against mobilization will be detained for several hours for identification, fingerprinting and photographing and then released.”

Key words here are “detained”, “several hours”, “fingerprinting” and “photographing”—as if a simple identification procedure were not invasive enough.

While we’re at it, let’s not forget that there are democratic countries, like Britain, whose citizens still object to having to carry IDs with them.

Okay so its reported from a Russian point of view, but if true, it does have the hallmarks of a fascist orientated threat.

So goes the famous line from George Orwell’s novel 1984. And so, too, can our forces today claim over a number of groups we find in the Middle East. In many ways, the enemy of my enemy is my friend when dealing with the Middle East, and in the battle between ancient tribal groups, when you lack an enemy, sometimes you need to make one.

In a new report from the UN, it is revealed that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) were maintaining regular contact with members of the so-called Islamic State since May of 2013. Initial reports from the IDF stated that this was only for medical care for civilians, but that story fell apart when the UN observers identified direct contact between IDF forces and ISIS soldiers, including giving medical care to ISIS fighters.

Observations even included the transfer of two crates from the IDF to ISIS forces, the contents of which have not been confirmed at this time. Further the UN report identified what the Syrians label a crossing point of forces between Israel and ISIS, a point of concern brought before the UN Security Council. This report from the UN strengthens the claims by the Syrian regime that Israel is heavily involved in operations within the nation.

“Translation of the full text agreed upon by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany, and signed by pro-Russian separatists, on Thursday”

But can the Ukraine government give the separatists immunity from prosecution for the shooting down of a civilian airliner?

  • fred

“That’s not in the text, Fred, is it?”

Seems to me that “Providing pardon and amnesty by way of enacting a law forbids prosecution and punishment of persons in relation to events that took place in specific parts of Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine.” would cover it.

If I had family on MH17 I’d be getting a bit concerned.

George Galloway – under some pressure during last week’s TV appearance – issued a heartfelt plea (or perhaps it was a solemn warning) not to conflate anti-Zionism with anti-Jew.

Rather rich coming from the bloke who has done more than most to conflate the two.

He certainly has quite a few disciples of this blog.

One of the factors that makes Ukraine so contentious is that Ukrainian expats are among CIA’s most bathetic dupes. All through the cold war they got immersed in synthetic fellowship and hokey cultural pageantry to stoke their nationalism as a weapon against the USSR. Now it’s dawning on even their dimmest bulbs what’s in store for the old country: a bloodbath on the Yugoslav model. The cognitive dissonance hits: without pacific settlement of this dispute, tens of thousands of “their” cherished people will die. Then their operant conditioning kicks in and all they can do is bay for Putin’s head.

    _______________

“Used to” denotes frequency, but unfortunately I have no recollection of having criticised the size of the crowd even once. Nor do I recall ever commenting on anything to do the company.

Probably just another lie from the Big Liar.

    Very Stalinist.

Surely it’s having to do the opposite of commonsense at the behest of Zionist blackmailers that gives you the Cameron stare. We will pull out of Europe like the waxing of leg hairs and we will love every minute of it.
