We are directly responsible for the disasters in the Mediterranean. The bombing of Libya into failed state status is now coming back to haunt us. The ludicrous idea, propounded by Blair, Robert Cooper and the Henry Jackson Society, that you could improve dictatorial states by massive bombing campaigns that targeted their basic infrastructure, is now a total bust. Sadly so are Iraq and Libya, to the permanent detriment of many millions of people. We caused both the Islamic State and the Mediterranean boat disasters, and we caused them with bombs.
But the lack of any effective policing is only part of the problem. What makes people so desperate that they are prepared to give all of the small amount they own, to ruthless gangs, in exchange for a dreadful sea crossing with a one in ten chance of drowning? Most of the refugees are sub-Saharan African. We only see the European end of the saga, not the terrible conditions on the cross Saharan journeys that they start with.
There will be no security anywhere if the world does not address the terrible scourge of African poverty and under-development. That is a huge subject on which I have written extensively and worked much of my life, and I do not wish to open it here. But what it does show is the utter stupidity – inhumanity yes, but also stupidity – of UKIP in thinking that cutting development aid will increase the economic security of the UK.
Since the only thing I know for sure about what happened on 9/11 is that the official account of what happened is a pack of lies, I refuse to criticize accounts of what happened as long as they reject the official account. For all I know, any of them might be true.
I just read over lunch an article in the latest issue of The American Conservative (May/June 2015) by William S. Lind entitled “Why Soldiers Lie”. I quote one particularly memorable paragraph:

The ‘middle’ will vote and frantically bring out the big guns i.e. the likes of John Major and others, in a calculated contempt against openness and honesty to keep silent on spending plans (defence etc), to say nothing, give nothing away(i.e. IDS’s next savage £12 billion cut to the welfare budget) and shun those groups ‘backside algorithms’ predict won’t bother to vote.
Notice this election is all about what has been achieved and what has been ruined by the opposition; it is a deadly Con! – it gives little or no coherent information about what will be done in the future.
The past is knowable while the future dangerously not.
Is my statement bullsh*t? I f ‘yes’ I ask you to think about the £9000 tuition fees, think about bedroom tax, think about the total reorganisation of the NHS and 40 per cent cuts in local government, think about divide and rule.
Do you register to vote? Fill out a form, get someone to help you, go on-line to enter? If you did not then start demanding answers about nothing; back-side politics is out to screw you with the old binary views of the past.
There is no revolution. Back-side politics has already won the day.

The reported flaws in the official 9-11 account doesn’t mean that alternative narratives, in the absence of evidence, have any legitimacy.
Just as the U.S. is ending sanctions against Cuba, it is imposing them on Venezuela, with the ridiculous claim that Venezuela represents a national security threat. (Obama and an aide have since repudiated the claim that Venezuela is a national security threat, but they have not rescinded the sanctions.) I suspect that imposing those new sanctions was the quid pro quo the national security state demanded in return for allowing the rapprochement with Cuba.

I have seen clips on you tube numerous times and it doesn’t prove any demolition took place. In fact, I’ve seen clips from different positions and angles that prove without doubt that it WASN’T a demolition. I also saw with my own eyes planes which struck the WTC.

Well, you can leave out the notion the towers were brought down by controlled explosives as part of any alternative account.
For planes to have actually struck the twin towers is by no means inconsistent with independent controlled demolition, especially of the different building WTC7 hours later.

Well, I was in D.C. that day, so I saw nothing with my own eyes, not even whatever happened at the Pentagon a couple of miles away. All I have ever seen is pictures on TV after the fact, and such pictures, as we all know, can lie.

That’s true even, if highly unlikely. The bottom line is there is no evidence that 7 was brought down by controlled explosives.
By the way, when 9/11 happened, it was a few years after I had worked in the Pentagon myself, so I knew people who were still working at the Pentagon on 9/11. No one has confirmed to me that he or she saw a plane strike the building that day.

Then you might want to ask yourself why after 14 years not one among the thousands of witnesses on that day have come forward to say that planes did not really smash into buildings after all. Having revealed it didn’t really happen would have made them financially rich. Moreover, not one government official or journalist has come forward to substantiate the “hoax”. Where do you suppose the hoax was filmed and who directed it?

I replied to Anon1 in the way I did because many people fall for such crude propaganda. Just look at royal events (particularly royal babies) and watch the hoardes of plebs waving Union Jacks.
Of course, most readers of this blog are a bit more sophisticated than that; but not all.
The media has now become one huge Establishment/corporate propaganda machine (including the likes of the Guardian), and cyberspace is invaded by armies of trolls, all taking a buck to lie to the public. Morality and integrity? what’s that!

I found an interesting set of videos which show the 911 buildings falling. They are shot from different angles and they clearly show building 7 does not fall straight down and that building 1 falls from the top first.

It was Galileo who dropped two cannon balls of different mass off the tower of Pisa and found that they both arrived on the ground at the same time. Therefore WTC 1 and 2 did NOT freefall because debris which was in freefall arrived on the ground first.
In terms of the numbers of architects and engineers who support the claims of the 9-11 truth movement, here’s a sober reminder of the context of such “support”. The United States Census Bureau reported in 2008 that there are 233,000 architects in the United States and 2,495,000 engineers in the United States. Only 1,761 out of 2,728,000 joined Architects and engineers for 9/11 truth. That’s 0.065% of the total.
And i haven’t even looked at whether the architects and engineers listed were in fields in any way relevant to the WTC.
I will admit that planes probably struck the twin towers, but I have learned that the U.S. government lies about so much, I am unwilling to say that I am convinced even of that. I suspect not many people themselves saw at least the first plane strike.
By the way, it’s remarkable how few people there are who say they themselves saw a plane strike the Pentagon,and the sole video the U.S. government has released that allegedly shows this is not very convincing.
