The Sunday Times has a story claiming that Snowden’s revelations have caused danger to MI6 and disrupted their operations. Here are five reasons it is a lie.
1) The alleged Downing Street source is quoted directly in italics. Yet the schoolboy mistake is made of confusing officers and agents. MI6 is staffed by officers. Their informants are agents. In real life, James Bond would not be a secret agent. He would be an MI6 officer. Those whose knowledge comes from fiction frequently confuse the two. Nobody really working with the intelligence services would do so, as the Sunday Times source does. The story is a lie.
2) The argument that MI6 officers are at danger of being killed by the Russians or Chinese is a nonsense. No MI6 officer has been killed by the Russians or Chinese for 50 years. The worst that could happen is they would be sent home. Agents’ – generally local people, as opposed to MI6 officers – identities would not be revealed in the Snowden documents. Rule No.1 in both the CIA and MI6 is that agents’ identities are never, ever written down, neither their names nor a description that would allow them to be identified. I once got very, very severely carpeted for adding an agents’ name to my copy of an intelligence report in handwriting, suggesting he was a useless gossip and MI6 should not be wasting their money on bribing him. And that was in post communist Poland, not a high risk situation.
3) MI6 officers work under diplomatic cover 99% of the time. Their alias is as members of the British Embassy, or other diplomatic status mission. A portion are declared to the host country. The truth is that Embassies of different powers very quickly identify who are the spies in other missions. MI6 have huge dossiers on the members of the Russian security services – I have seen and handled them. The Russians have the same. In past mass expulsions, the British government has expelled 20 or 30 spies from the Russian Embassy in London. The Russians retaliated by expelling the same number of British diplomats from Moscow, all of whom were not spies! As a third of our “diplomats” in Russia are spies, this was not coincidence. This was deliberate to send the message that they knew precisely who the spies were, and they did not fear them.
4) This anti Snowden non-story – even the Sunday Times admits there is no evidence anybody has been harmed – is timed precisely to coincide with the government’s new Snooper’s Charter act, enabling the security services to access all our internet activity. Remember that GCHQ already has an archive of 800,000 perfectly innocent British people engaged in sex chats online.
5) The paper publishing the story is owned by Rupert Murdoch. It is sourced to the people who brought you the dossier on Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction, every single “fact” in which proved to be a fabrication. Why would you believe the liars now?
There you have five reasons the story is a lie.
@Craig “You seem to struggle..”
Perhaps one day I will be rehabilitated. To repeat: “Lifted” from operations might not mean moved to other countries as major defectors like Gordievsky (I wonder what you make of him?). It might mean simply ceasing to gather intelligence and go back to “ordinary” life.
Therefore, I am not sure that the article was simply disinformation and that Snowden is not in effect a traitor who caused grave damage to Western security.
“You have to understand that most agents are traitors to their own country. Most often they are doing it for money. When push comes to shove, deep down most officers are rather contemptuous of them – understandably, in my book.”
Craig, have you ever read the book by Corinne Souza who used to write in Lobster magazine until she died a year or so ago? I think it’s called Baghdad’s Spy. It’s a reminiscence of her father’s role as an MI6 agent, and her own experience of growing up in an agent’s family and being to some extent cultivated herself by the officer to whom her dad reported. She certainly concurred with what you say about officers’ attitudes to their agents.
Grave damage to Western security = showing Western intelligence up as bewigged clowns.

The only competent western spook left to dismantle the crime syndicate.
So today they are gathering at Runnymede
Lizzie the clan and all her mates,
glorying for the cameras, having forgotten what is was in the Magna Carta’s seed, at Runnymede, away with human rights, let the ministry of justice
supersede.
Above hovers the soul of Majid Ali, a free man was seized and apprehended by others and killed by us all, at Runnymede, where love fails to succeed.
Paragraph/rule/direction/law/ 39 of the Magna Carta:
“No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgment of his equals or by the law of the land.”
The establishment aspired for hundreds of years to do these noble words justice, by disregarding them with glee.
This has been going on since the start of the Afghan war at around 2001. That area is crawling with all sorts of Agents and under cover officers from any of the players in the game.
Baluch are warlike people, suffice it to say that one man accidentally standing on another’s toes, results in 46 dead later and the elders sitting around the fire to hammer out a truce deal.
That area is totally lawless and not many of the Pakistani governmental agencies carry much clout around there, it is very much organised around feudal structures.

There is nothing I can find to show the video has been completed, let alone released, and I am sure Mr. Galloway will find some way of telling the world (with his customary painful shyness) when it comes out. If it comes out.

Craig Murray is deceived by half of a dual-sided CIA hoax – the CIA loves people arguing between 2 or more falsehoods.
Not only the Times article, but Glenn Greenwald & Edward Snowden himself, are all known to European intelligence agencies as CIA liars, frauds & hoaxes / hoaxers. This is beyond any shadow of a doubt if you read the European intel agency reports on Snowden and Greenwald, linked below, tho well-masked by CIA-Google. Putin himself drops hints Snowden is a fraud, but gullible media fear to pick up the thread.
Craig Murray should know better, given his familiarity with the lying criminality of the Guardian and CIA asset Alan Rusbridger.
As is well-proven, the anti-9-11-truth Snowden never ‘stole’ anything, the CIA gives his ‘nothing really new’ docs directly to his fake ‘brave journalists’ connected to CIA & Rothschilds (Greenwald & Guardian), with Snowden in fact a friend of Dick Cheney & Zbig Brzezinski. You will notice that the faker Greenwald produces almost zero ‘brave journalism’ despite US $50 million in funding from CIA billionaire & murder-sponsor-in-Ukraine Pierre Omidyar.
The Times article is a continuation of that ridiculous ‘smash the Guardian computers’ ploy by British intel secretly colluding with the Guardian, so absurd even British schoolboys were laughing at it. The US-UK are now desperate to pretend that the hoax, liar & fraud Edward Snowden is still legit, when the intel report in Moscow exposed him totally as a fraud last year. This is well-known now at gov’ts of Russia, France, Germany, Switzerland etc.
Here is the letter at Swiss government that terminated the US attempt to re-plant Snowden in Switzerland, with link to the larger Snowden fraud dossier in the files of European governments.
« Re: Intelligence dossier on active CIA agent & fraud ‘Edward Snowden’, threats to Switzerland
« Since the previous year – in case you did not know – the governments and intelligence agencies of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Belgium, have all known that the man in Russia ‘Edward Snowden’ publicly requesting Swiss asylum, is a liar and fraud, an active CIA agent hoaxing and defrauding European citizens, a man who may have already helped murder innocent people via the CIA ‘Operation Fake Dissident Snowden’.
« There is a substantial intelligence agency file on ‘Snowden’ in the possession of the above countries, describing in detail the comprehensive CIA connections and evil purposes of this grand hoax, by which the US regime is attempting to humiliate Switzerland, the USA not being content with the billions already extorted from Swiss banks and institutions by the corrupt USA judicial apparatus. The ‘Snowden’ intel file is attached in e-mails to you, and can also be viewed online here
‘Russia gov FSB SVR report, Snowden, Greenwald are CIA frauds’
« The Swiss Federal Intelligence Service will understand this report quickly, if not holding it already, and may find amusement confronting Mr Snowden himself, his lying CIA-backed ‘Snowden’ journalists, and the CIA and US regime over this ‘Snowden’ fraud, which was clear from the beginning, when Snowden was promoted by the same CIA media, Guardian & NY Times – who have criminal charge complaints registered against them in Europe for spreading criminal lies about a genuine exiled USA dissident. No real victim receives ‘Snowden’-type promotion by CIA media. And Snowden proved himself to be a fraud via his own words, not even interested in the corruption of the US judges who would put him on trial.
« Everyone around Snowden is CIA – his lawyers, his journalists, etc. ‘Operation Snowden’ is a CIA ‘limited hang-out’, i.e., speaking some truths, to sell lies that defraud and murder. Among the purposes of ‘Snowden’ is to increase the sense of terrorism and blackmail among governments; to promote CIA-tied media, their lies and frauds; [to dupe people into using the CIA-NSA Tor browser] and very likely to entrap genuine USA dissidents, who may have already been silenced or killed after contacting ‘Team Snowden’. The fraud ‘Snowden’ is now a subject for quiet USA-Russia negotiation.
« Edward Snowden … has perhaps already defrauded Swiss citizens into donating ‘Snowden defence’ funds to what is already known in several nations as a proven CIA programme. The good Swiss citizens deserve your protection from ‘Operation Fake Dissident Snowden’; the file above will lead you to all that you need. »

“Also noticed that some people here are keen on writing off Glenn Greenwald !!”
Your links: the BBC, Sky. And the Intercept, a web site set up by a billionaire who funds US imperialism (including Ukraine).
I’m genuinely surprised you link to these outlets as a rebuttal to the accusation that Greenwald is an establishment cock sucking, self serving, right wing gatekeeper.
By the way, U.S. intelligence agencies make the same distinction between “officer” and “agent”, so the source also cannot be a U.S. intelligence operative (or a British intelligence operative influenced by U.S. terminology).
Nevermind: Seem to have missed that one!
Its every Friday but only when the weather is nice, been there last week, far too many bikes there to comment…;) If its dry, I shall try and go again this Fri.
@Brabantian. Thanks for that, if this picture is as you paint it, who is telling the truth, apart from you, off course?
Brabantian
“the CIA loves people arguing between 2 or more falsehoods.”
Yes it does.
I must admit I have trouble with the type of docs you link to but from a different angle I pretty much agree with your conclusions. I certainly do not dismiss the idea this was always a CIA op as impossible. I tend to think it became one at some point, probably shortly after Greenwald got involved. Not that it matters of course. What is clear is that it is a spectacle.
You got your BMW, then?
Oh yes….
Omidyar make sense as a tiered agenda, but even so remains pure speculation. You think the op has been a success? Even hard-cases like Feinstein have dialed back on surveillance. Just like the Times story is easily debunked for lack of evidence, so the speculation in your links lack substantiation. There’s the trap for security services; it’s all classified.
as a few people mentioned earlier, there might, just might, be mild panic amongst the UKUSA spooks?
When the Cyber-Security company CyTech was demonstrating a protection product at the now famous US Office of Personnel Management recently – the salesman noticed a large-scale exfiltration going on!
at first, it was reported as just a normal data-breach (loss of millions upon millions of US state employees private info) however towards the end of last week the worst phase of the OPM-breach was noticed – that all of the currently two million strong list/database of each individual’s 127 page application form for Security Clearance used by US/NATO spook Officials, and perhaps a few UK politicos, had been gifted to attackers unknown.
but even then, the UK MSM allegations that SNOWDEN is satan and has personally given Putin all of this stuff is rather overlooking the previous NSA incident caused by a Canadian Officer AND agent in and around 2013 who stole all UKUSA-5EYES secrets for cash and holidays, (so just a cashblower)
http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/military-steamed-about-not-being-able-to-court-martial-jeffrey-delisle-documents-1.1465584
so no ‘Snowden decryption’ was needed! as the KGB already had everything from the previous couple of years. Thats ALL OF OUR DATA that the UKUSA steal, then hide it in a computer, not very well, then they give access to around a million people. It is obviously regularly ‘stolen’ – probably by the agents inside the wider NSA related to the various Mafias, Iranians, Vatican, FIFA. . .News International
Jeffrey Paul Delisle (born March 30, 1971) is a former Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy who passed sensitive information from the top-secret Stone Ghost intelligence sharing network to the Russian spy agency GRU. . .
Canadian government officials have refused to confirm or deny media reports that Ottawa expelled several Russian diplomats recently in connection with an alleged espionage affair. The alleged expulsions are reportedly connected with the case of Royal Canadian Navy Sub-Lieutenant Jeffrey Paul Delisle
Finally, for anti-Russian balance – check out this obvious Putin evil kompromat, which claimed many EU diplomats last week https://euobserver.com/beyond-brussels/129102
Phil; “I’m genuinely surprised you link to these outlets as a rebuttal to the accusation that Greenwald is an establishment cock sucking, self serving, right wing gatekeeper.”
I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt when they are being vindictivly targetted by HMG; I don’t think Glenn or David Miranda much expected or enjoyed the latter’s nine hour Heathrow detention, anymore than Assange is enjoying being imprisoned in the Ecuadorian Embassy.
Have I previously seen you mock “911 Truthers” ?! 😀
This story is ‘an elephant in the room’ and we’re talking about it, like it or not this story has been released for good reason. The reasons have nothing to do with the elephant in the room, quite the opposite.
OUR SPY AGENCIES ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE TRUTH
Unfortunately these Spy Agencies are not interested in the truth. They are interested in what they need to say – whether it is true or false – to justify their position, and in this case their position is a need to condemn Snowden. Why is that? Because Edward Snowden’s revelations point out just quite how dangerous, to our freedom and liberty, these organizations can be.
When one looks at the history of MI6 and its notoriety for lying to the public in its own self-interest (look at the denials and lies that MI6 spread openly around the Philby, Blunt, Burgess cases at the time) I would suggest that only the gullible would believe anything these people told you. They lie so often that they have forgotten what the truth is.
Certainly my own experience of our Spy Agencies is one of lies, harassment, and intimidation from them, together with a heedless disregard by them for the rule of law and for any form of justice.
Iain,
Thanks for you kind invitation:-
” Courteney Barnett @ 15. 23 am on 15 June: we seem to agree. There are two tricky areas – effective parliamentary and peaceful non-parliamentary action. Maybe we should meet – with others? – to come up with actions rather than words. I’ll be happy to meet in any London pub that you or others suggest. What about 20, 24, 26 or 30 June?”
I actually live in the Caribbean, in the Turks and Caicos Islands ( a British Dependent Territory). Otherwise, I would have taken you up on your offer.
Cheers,

Courtenay Barnett would have a long journey from the Turks and Caicos Islands, would he not?’
Best wishes.
“Who killed Gareth Williams? He wasn’t an agent, he was an officer. If the unspoken rule is, ‘We won’t kill yours if you don’t kill ours’, then who killed him? Was it his own side?”

Re your above question.
I once read an article, that Gareth Williams was removed for, investigating Samantha Cameron’s stepfather’s (Lord Astor) and his business activities.
At the time Samantha Cameron worked in a designer bag shop,to cut a long story short Gareth Williams was found in a designer bag that was originally from the shop she worked in.
You have to remember that we are dealing here will extremely powerful and influencial people.
This is what the gangsters-in-charge are ignoring.

The Real Story
What’s Really Going on at Fukushima?
by ROBERT HUNZIKER
Fukushima’s still radiating, self-perpetuating, immeasurable, and limitless, like a horrible incorrigible Doctor Who monster encounter in deep space.
Fukushima will likely go down in history as the biggest cover-up of the 21st Century. Governments and corporations are not leveling with citizens about the risks and dangers; similarly, truth itself, as an ethical standard, is at risk of going to shambles as the glue that holds together the trust and belief in society’s institutions. Ultimately, this is an example of how societies fail.
Tens of thousands of Fukushima residents remain in temporary housing more than four years after the horrific disaster of March 2011. Some areas on the outskirts of Fukushima have officially reopened to former residents, but many of those former residents are reluctant to return home because of widespread distrust of government claims that it is okay and safe.
Part of this reluctance has to do with radiation’s symptoms. It is insidious because it cannot be detected by human senses. People are not biologically equipped to feel its power, or see, or hear, touch or smell it (Caldicott). Not only that, it slowly accumulates over time in a dastardly fashion that serves to hide its effects until it is too late.

John Goss has suggested a pub meeting on Saturday 20 June, to dovetail with the Anti-Austerity March. That suits me fine, but meeting up at the start or end of the march
http://www.thepeoplesassembly.org.uk/end_austerity_now_national_demonstration_saturday_20th_june
may be tricky. I suggest that those from Craig’s blog who plan to go on the march and would like to meet up email me at [email protected] with ideas of a pub (and mobile numbers to help keep in contact on the day). Ideally, I’d like to invite people to the Ivy House, London’s first co-operatively owned pub
http://www.ivyhousenunhead.com/
but that would involve a longish trip to Nunhead (with its rich cemetery). As a default meeting place I suggest the garden outside St Thomas’s Hospital, gazing admiringly at the Naum Gabo fountain – see http://www.gardenvisit.com/landscape_architecture/london_landscape_architecture/visitors_guide/naum_gabo_fountain_garden
I will be as in my picture here, with the addition of spectacles, but still clutching “Treasure Islands”
@youknowmyname, anent the evident state panic over exposure of cleared personnel.
Correct, NATO bloc state secrecy is a sieve. That never bothered them because officials could count on impunity. But now impunity is starting to crack. US courts have been forced to acknowledge the Rome Statute.
Sosa v. Alvarez-Machain, Doe v. Drummond, Aziz v. Alcolac, Devi v. Rajapaska, Karunamunige
Chamila Krishanthi v. Rajakumara Rajaratnam, Sexual Minorities Uganda v. Lively, Hamdan v. United States, are just a few of a couple dozen cases recognizing the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Judges have to do because the Rome Statute is the best codification of universal-jurisdiction law, the only law that will stop clandestine state crime; because the Rome Statute is ratified by “most of the mature democracies of the world;” and because they tried judges at Nuremberg.
Increasingly, secrecy is all that protects US/UK state murderers and torturers or officials abetting other universal-jurisdiction crimes. Snowden is a convenient propaganda demon, but that’s not the whistleblower NATO fears most. Russia’s disclosures are not kompromat but public denunciations of US state crime, a direct attack on the US achilles heel – its rapidly-eroding legitimacy, international standing, and responsible sovereignty. For instance, Sikorski’s exposure also targets Anne Applebaum, making it clear that US coercive interference and inchoate crimes against peace can be documented for the courts.
Brabantian
Have you considered the possibility that Julian Assange works for the CIA?
If not – why not?
Dave Lawton, at 3:03am, thanks – the play looks fascinating! Interestijg too that someone has resurrected the ‘International Times’ name and logo.
