Iran Breakthrough 117

I am really very pleased at the agreement reached with Iran. Coming as it does against a background of widespread and Western exacerbated Sunni/Shia conflict, it is one of very few hopeful recent international developments.

Liberalisation of Iranian society continues to go forward at an achingly slow pace. The human rights situation, role of the military and theological power structure remain, frankly, appalling. But insofar as there is movement, it is for improvement. Normalisation of its international situation will certainly help.
Taking the long view, Iran is the classical case of a great culture perverted to destruction by western power interference and the reaction to it. But I believe the enormous potential of the Iranian people will now start to reassert itself.

The danger of course is the Zionist militarists in Congress and the US media who will do all in their power to scupper any peaceful move. But for once, Bush’s extension of executive power might do some actual good. There is a parallel danger in Iran. The Iraq War was totally unjustified and illegal, but Saddam Hussein might nonetheless have evaded it had he boxed a bit more cleverly and allowed some foolish inspectors to wander around his palaces prodding at the teaspoons. Yes the inspections regimes will be galling, even humiliating. But patience will have its rewards. There is real danger though that the hardliners on the Iranian side will be able to muster sufficient local points of power to hamper inspections, thus giving the US and Israeli hardliners an opportunity.

“I am really very pleased at the agreement reached with Iran. Coming as it does against a background of widespread and Western exacerbated Sunni/Shia conflict, it is one of very few hopeful recent international developments.”

And an example of international cooperation. It does and can happen!

Maybe not for long however. There are US Presidential elections next year and we can safely assume that hawkish zionist candidates will receive bucket-loads of zio-cash and other zio-inducements. This agreement could quite easily be torn up in 18 months. If not sooner

  • Spellbound

Great News. Well it will have to be a good many Ukrainians instead now if the spell is to be rekindled. Clearly the witch assigned Wendy Sherman was unable to hold sway over the P5 + Mogherini, and something will need to be done.

BTW-Obola has become an “existential threat” to the state of israel like a JFK. We have bibi making private grassy knoll jokes at the Knesset again?

  • nevermind

Excellent News, after all this procrastination.

@MJ “This agreement could quite easily be torn up in 18 months. If not sooner”

Hmm, much harder now that Iran has survived attacks with Stuxnet. Duqu1 and 2, much provocation by Bahrains Sunni rulers, crippling sanctions and de-investment, so they would have to prove some violations of sorts.

With a new Government soon to replace Bibi in Israel, peace talk with Palestinians could commence, leading to better relations between Israel and Iran. I expect that many thousands of Jews living in Iran will be happy today, and so they should because this agreement effectively reduces the threat of being attacked by your religious brothers.

Bennett has just been interviewed on the BBC News Channel. He was positively apoplectic.

  • Ba'al Zevul

Apoplectic Bennett – it must be hard being made to realise you’re not the centre of the universe. Or even invited to participate. Or that you’re no bloody help at all when it comes to ISIS, and Iran is.

  • lysias

If the agreement is torn up in 18 months, the worldwide sanctions against Iran will nevertheless already have ended, never to be resurrected.

From the Wikipedia entry List of earthquakes in Iran:

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, being crossed by several major fault lines[1] that cover at least 90% of the country.[2] As a result, earthquakes in Iran occur often and are destructive.

  • Ben

Neocons will have a difficult time cobbling 2/3 of Congress to kill this deal. Then this:

“Speaking from the White House earlier on Tuesday morning, President Obama told reporters that the Iran deal is “not built on trust. It is built on verification.” ”

Channeling St Ronaldus whilst implementing some of Putin’s suggestions is walking a thin line.

  • Daniel

    Bennett:

“It’s an historical moment in the sense that it’s going to put us in a terrible new era.

    BBC anchor:

“The American president has said this is not a deal based on trust but on verification.”

    Bennett:

“Well imagine if your local police station raided a drug baron and told them that they are going to be raided a month in advance. How can you verify if you tell them a month in advance. I can’t remember in my lifetime such a terrible deal…This is a very, very dark day. July 14th, 2015 will be remembered as the day that a nuclear terror superpower was born.”

    BBC anchor:

“Let’s stick with the rhetoric. The American president says every pathway to a nuclear weapon is cut off. What is it that you know that the American’s, the British, the French, the Russian’s, the German’s and the Chinese don’t? They have agreed to a deal after nine years.”

    A stuttering Bennett continued:

“I think the West over the last few weeks and months for some non-understandable reason were desperate for a deal at any price and basically they caved in on may things they said were red lines….Essentially all the red lines were broken. History teaches us that many times the world makes mistakes and then the world pays the price….The facts as they stand, present this deal as an unmitigated disaster.”

Paul Craig Roberts, former White House official under Nixon Administration, in his latest post said the same thing I had been saying for many years in the past that Washington will never have peace with Iran until it succeed in installing a pro-Israel regime in Tehran.

Roberts is of the opinion that Iran’s non-existent nuclear hoax is created by United State to destroy Tehran’s independence from Washington’s doctrine of world domination. He says, even if the US signs an agreement with Iran now, it has no intention of leaving its warmongering against Iranian people until they install a government in Tehran which submits to United State’s (Israeli colony) dictation.

    http://rehmat1.com/2015/07/10/us-wants-regime-change-not-a-nuclear-deal-with-iran/

  • Daniel

The Net in Yahoo has just made a propaganda press statement intended for US public consumption.

  • lysias

Obama has used the nuclear hoax as a means of striking a deal with Iran that his opponents will have great difficulty blocking, because they have to continue to pretend that the hoax is real, and therefore that there is real value in blocking Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program.

  • fedup

Frankly I will not trust a single word of the US treaties, these warmongering swine, and their sense of entitlement, make a dangerous party to deal with. Furthermore, as already on display the zionists are apoplectic because their thug on demand has decided to go it sort of alone. Although there are enough traps set for the deal to get scuppered. US can be trusted as much as anyone can trust their local crackhead down the road on the hunt to score!

  • RobG

I wouldn’t trust Obama further than I can spit (remember, this is the guy who has, to all intents and purposes ripped-up the American Constitution – see section 1021 of the NDAA as just one example). Likewise, with this recent deal with Iran, which in some respects seems to be a re-run of what happened in Iraq.

It’s no secret that the neocons want to take out Iran. I wonder why…

“Iran has the fourth largest oil reserves and the world’s largest natural gas reserves in the world.”

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_in_Iran

The neocons stepping stone to Iran is Syria, hence all this nonsense with ISIS.

And as always it’s dressed-up as “defenders of freedom and democracy”, whilst the blood of innocents flows freely.

In the interests of making $$$ they don’t care how many people they kill, including their own.

  • MJ

Of course sanctions can be restored and other measures can be taken also. The problem is that this agreement does nothing for the banking/oil cartels. They were never interested in the nuclear stuff anyway, it was just a distraction for our benefit. They’re interested in banking and oil and this deal takes them no closer to regaining control of either.

Israel of course needs that pipeline from Iran to Eilat to be restored so it can get the job finished in Palestine without having to rely on Egypt.

The demonisation of Iran will continue and watch out for any Plan B or C. A spectacular terrorist event for which Iran gets the blame could change everything. Hillary Clinton has gone on record to say that she would be prepared to nuke Iran.

  • Republicofscotland

Yes Craig it is encouraging to see an agreement reached on Iran, after so many years of on off negotiations.

Though some are displeased at a resolution being achieved.

Netanyahu for instance calls the agreement a “Historic Mistake” and it now leaves Iran the ability to produce nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu also fears lifting economic sanctions on Iran will lead to hundreds of billions of Dollars of investments, and transaction resuming in Iran, monies that will be channelled to Israels enemies.

Ironically I think that Netanyahu’s public spat with Obama, Israels most ardent backer, has contributed to the Iranian agreement and its ratification.

The ink isn’t even dry on the concord, yet Israel is expected to lobby US Legislators against the deal.

What are the implications of the Tehran Nuclear Power programme, which has taken a decade to reach an agreement, if any at all? Could Iran actively create nuclear weapons, and would this destablise the region even further.

Or is it more likely that Israel fears a strong and successful, Muslim country in the region, in the form of Iran?

It really is a momentous day, that this agreement has been reached, frankly I never thought it could happen.

  • RobG

I agree, MJ. All this Iran nuke stuff is constantly hyped-up by the corporate media. We are constantly told that Iran is some sort of ‘deadly threat’, when the reality is that Iran has been crippled by sanctions and is encircled by US military bases (oh, to be an American, and to pay 58 cents out of every tax dollar for this monster, aka the MIC). I’m sure there will be a Plan B or C sometime soon, to try and persuade the public for the need of military action against Iran. After all, we’ve had it non-stop in recent years with regard to Syria (but don’t get me onto ISIS again!).

If the mainstream media were not a huge propaganda machine for the 1% they might instead be talking about a country like Pakistan, which for many years now has been a UN recognised failed state and has a large arsenal of nuclear weapons. I could also mention India as well, but will resist.

  • RobG

Oh, and off-topic, but also sort of on-topic: Uncle Sam, “the world’s policeman”, is trying to overthrow a democratically elected government yet again. This particular government happens to be the one which has given political asylum to Julian Assange, and it also happens to be a left wing government, just like the one in Greece…

    http://www.telesurtv.net/english/news/Headquarters-of-Ecuadors-Ruling-Party-Bombed-20150714-0014.html

Now, what’s going on in Greece…

  • Republicofscotland

    RobG.

This isn’t the first time that right wing demonstrators, backed by whom, have tried to overthrow the president of Ecuador, your suggestion is a totally viable one.

Back in 2010 an attempt to remove the president failed, infact South America has history of coups, failed or successful, plotted by the very party you mentioned.

One against President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela in 2002, as well as the subsequent ousting of other progressive Latin American leaders in Honduras and Paraguay in 2009 and 2012.

Tensions in the South American country have been high since the government of Rafael Correa introduced two bills aimed at redistributing wealth and improving inequality in the country.

A noble cause, under attack from the NeoCons.

  • Mark Golding

We remember the death toll of the Iran/Iraq war is estimated at 1 million. We recall the CIA engineered 1953 Iranian coup d’état (Operation Boot); We learn US sanctions are engineered to disrupt Iranian society and trigger regime change… The open-minded tuned-in to CIA proxy snipers murdering the innocent (UKraine style) during the 2009 Iranian presidential election protests…

..and the deaths of innocent Iranian scientists.

Yes a great culture perverted to destruction by western power interference – These US/UK assassins, these ‘HIT AND RUN’ killers, these criminals, these perpetrators of death and destruction will reach atonement and reckoning as intention tips the scales against the true militants, the real hardcore Western barbarians.

“There is a parallel danger in Iran. The Iraq War was totally unjustified and illegal, but Saddam Hussein might nonetheless have evaded it had he boxed a bit more cleverly and allowed some foolish inspectors to wander around his palaces prodding at the teaspoons.”

    – That’s total BS Craig. bLiar, BuSh planned to attack Iraq, Saddams “diplomacy” had absolutely nothing to do it.

Scott Ritter exposed it perfectly clear in many of his fine lectures on the matter. clear… Iraq was targeted for destruction, ‘teaspoons’ or not. Wesley Clark said something similar.

Sometimes you really lost it man.

Thank you for the link, ROS, Mhairi’s is one of the best maiden speeches I’ve seen for a while, and from one of the youngest MPs in hundreds of years!

There’s a certain irony, as Mhairi pointed out, that last week’s budget was shocking for many things, but not least for how it went after the young.

  • Becky Cohen

Sorry, totally off-topic, but did anyone catch this item in the news. Cameron insists Britain is a Christian country and we’re a Christian society, yet when somebody tries to live by the principles of Christ they get arrested by his police – allegedly on suspicion of buying drugs.

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/teenager-handcuffed-police-after-giving-9640333

Or was the cop trying to extort money off the guy he arrested for his release? “That’s not how I write it up, pal” sounds exactly like something a corrupt cop in 1920s Chicago would have said.

Then again, it may soon become an offence under the Tory regime not only to be poor, but to be caught trying to help the poor. Perhaps Mr Wilson is like the sort of person the Nazis would have arrested for an impulsive act of humanity as simple as throwing a piece of bread over the barbed wire to some starving concentration camp inmates?

  • Becky Cohen

Merseyside Police’s defence is that the cop’s words are subject to misinterpretation. Now what part of “I habitually falsify the reports of the arrests I make while on duty” does Merseyside Police not understand? Guess who pays the £5,000 compensation, though? The hard-working taxpayer of course. However, I’m glad that Mr Wilson put in £1 to a homeless person as an act of pure kindness and he has unexpectedly been rewarded £5,000 for being a thoroughly decent bloke. I’m not a religious person, but what was that about the Lord working in mysterious ways?:)

Including some on this thread by the look of it.

But I can understand why – one less stick with which to bear the US and the West.

I sometimes wonder what the Eminences on here would do if there were peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. Probably commit mass suicide.

    Here’s hoping! 🙂

ROS put the original live link a bit earlier in this post, of Mhairi Black giving her maiden speech in the Commons. The Guardian are now running the story:

    http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/jul/14/mhairi-black-first-commons-speech-snp

Black gave a very good speech, but what I also found interesting is that the deputy speaker admonished the SNP MPs for clapping, and told them that instead they should yay or nay, like braying donkeys, whilst of course quaffing huge amounts of champagne…

It’s a Greek chorus of tragedy for Netanyahoo and Neocons who are melting like a Hershey bar in the clear light of day.

They haven’t given up. They never do. Thick as a Brick, these yahoos.
