I am really very pleased at the agreement reached with Iran. Coming as it does against a background of widespread and Western exacerbated Sunni/Shia conflict, it is one of very few hopeful recent international developments.
Liberalisation of Iranian society continues to go forward at an achingly slow pace. The human rights situation, role of the military and theological power structure remain, frankly, appalling. But insofar as there is movement, it is for improvement. Normalisation of its international situation will certainly help.
Taking the long view, Iran is the classical case of a great culture perverted to destruction by western power interference and the reaction to it. But I believe the enormous potential of the Iranian people will now start to reassert itself.
The danger of course is the Zionist militarists in Congress and the US media who will do all in their power to scupper any peaceful move. But for once, Bush’s extension of executive power might do some actual good. There is a parallel danger in Iran. The Iraq War was totally unjustified and illegal, but Saddam Hussein might nonetheless have evaded it had he boxed a bit more cleverly and allowed some foolish inspectors to wander around his palaces prodding at the teaspoons. Yes the inspections regimes will be galling, even humiliating. But patience will have its rewards. There is real danger though that the hardliners on the Iranian side will be able to muster sufficient local points of power to hamper inspections, thus giving the US and Israeli hardliners an opportunity.

Hmm, much harder now that Iran has survived attacks with Stuxnet. Duqu1 and 2, much provocation by Bahrains Sunni rulers, crippling sanctions and de-investment, so they would have to prove some violations of sorts.
With a new Government soon to replace Bibi in Israel, peace talk with Palestinians could commence, leading to better relations between Israel and Iran. I expect that many thousands of Jews living in Iran will be happy today, and so they should because this agreement effectively reduces the threat of being attacked by your religious brothers.

Paul Craig Roberts, former White House official under Nixon Administration, in his latest post said the same thing I had been saying for many years in the past that Washington will never have peace with Iran until it succeed in installing a pro-Israel regime in Tehran.
Roberts is of the opinion that Iran’s non-existent nuclear hoax is created by United State to destroy Tehran’s independence from Washington’s doctrine of world domination. He says, even if the US signs an agreement with Iran now, it has no intention of leaving its warmongering against Iranian people until they install a government in Tehran which submits to United State’s (Israeli colony) dictation.

Obama has used the nuclear hoax as a means of striking a deal with Iran that his opponents will have great difficulty blocking, because they have to continue to pretend that the hoax is real, and therefore that there is real value in blocking Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program.
Frankly I will not trust a single word of the US treaties, these warmongering swine, and their sense of entitlement, make a dangerous party to deal with. Of course sanctions can be restored and other measures can be taken also. The problem is that this agreement does nothing for the banking/oil cartels. They were never interested in the nuclear stuff anyway, it was just a distraction for our benefit. They’re interested in banking and oil and this deal takes them no closer to regaining control of either.
Israel of course needs that pipeline from Iran to Eilat to be restored so it can get the job finished in Palestine without having to rely on Egypt.
The demonisation of Iran will continue and watch out for any Plan B or C. A spectacular terrorist event for which Iran gets the blame could change everything. Hillary Clinton has gone on record to say that she would be prepared to nuke Iran.

Though some are displeased at a resolution being achieved.
Netanyahu for instance calls the agreement a “Historic Mistake” and it now leaves Iran the ability to produce nuclear weapons.
Netanyahu also fears lifting economic sanctions on Iran will lead to hundreds of billions of Dollars of investments, and transaction resuming in Iran, monies that will be channelled to Israels enemies.
Ironically I think that Netanyahu’s public spat with Obama, Israels most ardent backer, has contributed to the Iranian agreement and its ratification.
The ink isn’t even dry on the concord, yet Israel is expected to lobby US Legislators against the deal.
What are the implications of the Tehran Nuclear Power programme, which has taken a decade to reach an agreement, if any at all? Could Iran actively create nuclear weapons, and would this destablise the region even further.
Or is it more likely that Israel fears a strong and successful, Muslim country in the region, in the form of Iran?
It really is a momentous day, that this agreement has been reached, frankly I never thought it could happen.
I agree, MJ. All this Iran nuke stuff is constantly hyped-up by the corporate media. We are constantly told that Iran is some sort of ‘deadly threat’, when the reality is that Iran has been crippled by sanctions and is encircled by US military bases (oh, to be an American, and to pay 58 cents out of every tax dollar for this monster, aka the MIC). I’m sure there will be a Plan B or C sometime soon, to try and persuade the public for the need of military action against Iran. After all, we’ve had it non-stop in recent years with regard to Syria (but don’t get me onto ISIS again!).
If the mainstream media were not a huge propaganda machine for the 1% they might instead be talking about a country like Pakistan, which for many years now has been a UN recognised failed state and has a large arsenal of nuclear weapons. I could also mention India as well, but will resist.

Tensions in the South American country have been high since the government of Rafael Correa introduced two bills aimed at redistributing wealth and improving inequality in the country.

There’s a certain irony, as Mhairi pointed out, that last week’s budget was shocking for many things, but not least for how it went after the young.
