Kezia Dugdale Got Just 5,217 Votes 1642

The Labour Party is being remarkably coy about releasing the actual result of its Scottish accounting unit leadership election, giving only a percentage. The entirely complacent unionist media is complicit in what amounts to a deception. The stunning truth is that in a one person, one vote election among the entire membership of the Labour Party in Scotland plus trades union supporters, Dugdale won with 5,217 votes (out of a claimed electorate of 21,000, many of whom do not exist or could not be arsed to choose between two right wing numpties).

UPDATE: A second Labour figure just rang me to assure me my information – which was from a good source – is wrong. She would not give the actual figure and only said it was “higher”. I offered to take down the post and publish an accurate figure if she would give it, but this was declined.

@Ba’al Zevul, thanks for the attempted reply, but rather busy now until tonight, so if your “points” haven’t been addressed by others, I will oblige later ! 😉

“Putin is popular because he is a patriotic nationalist”

Yes. He’s also very popular with christians and the Orthodox church.

“He is an expansionist, and he uses force”

I’ve seen no evidence to indicate expansionism but plenty to indicate that he will use force to protect Russia’s borders.

Now Chilcot’s little lot get uppity.

Chilcot inquiry: Leading figures in British political Establishment accused of plotting to discredit investigation into Iraq war
Exclusive: Panel considered mass resignation in protest at Establishment’s attacks, as Sir John’s team accuses Whitehall and No 10 using smears to discredit them

    and Chilcot makes an appearance.

Chilcot breaks his cover at last, but not his silence: Iraq inquiry Chairman repeatedly refuses to answer questions about when his report will finally be published
Sir John Chilcot refused to say when he planned to publish his report
Family members of soldiers killed in Iraq want the report published soon
Sir John has been paid £790-a-day for his role investigating the Iraq War

The thread on Medialens about the Jewish Chronicle smearing of Jeremy Corbyn contains some good commentary.

I’ve seen no evidence to indicate expansionism but plenty to indicate that he will use force to protect Russia’s borders.

You are defining “Russia’s borders” as “parts of other countries where the Russian population gives him an excuse to intervene”, I take it.

Here’s some thinking on Ukraine, which I can agree with. I also find myself in agreement with John Mearsheimer (a prominent critic of Israel, if you didn’t know) and the neorealist view of international politics. Which first assumes that the system is anarchic, and second that individual nations will take any measures they see as necessary (rightly or wrongly) to advance their own interests. With that in mind-

    Oh, and –

He’s also very popular with christians and the Orthodox church.

The Orthodox Church ( which is effectively the Church, in Russia) is very popular with the people. It is at least as central to the life of Russia as Catholicism is to rural Italy. So Putin has always encouraged it. After its suppression under Soviet rule, it’s rebounded. The words ‘opiate of the people’ might come to mind, but it’s more than that.

And why? It’s that patriotism thing again.

Hope the weather forecasters have got it wrong for Doune the Rabbit Hole, tomorrow until Sunday.

    Friday:
A rather cloudy start with patchy rain. Brightening up through the morning and becoming drier for a time although a few showers developing across Angus and Fife late afternoon. Warm. Maximum Temperature 21°C.

    Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
Sunny spells and scattered showers on Saturday, becoming cloudier later in the east with rain arriving. Unsettled on Sunday and Monday with spells of potentially heavy rain at times.

Shame but no doubt fun will be had by all.

The treason charge against Markus R. involves both the material he handed over to the Russians and the material he handed over to the U.S. As this Spiegel article points out, treason charges involve the claim that the actions caused severe damage to the national security of Germany: Agententätigkeit für USA: BND-Spion wegen Landesverrats angeklagt. So the charge implies that Markus R. did severe damage to Germany’s security not just by handing over secrets to Russia, but also by handing over secrets to the U.S.

    MJ.

Russia is indeed in to the business if expansionism.

Russia has submitted a bid to the UN claiming vast territories in the Arctic, the country’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

The ministry said in a statement that Russia is claiming 1.2m sq km (over 463,000 sq miles) of sea shelf extending more than 350 nautical miles (about 650km) from the shore.

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/04/russia-lays-claim-to-vast-areas-of-arctic-seabed

Off course it’s not just Russia who are ogling distant lands.

Presumably for drilling oil. “Bid to the UN” suggests that others can bid too and that Russia’s bid can be refused.

    “Other similar attacks are reported”

I expect the JC or someone will soon be claiming that Corbyn provides ammunition for Hamas’s pea-shooters and spud-guns from his allotment.

Al Arabiya accounts details how provocative the Tel Aviv Plage in Paris was. For example, anyone wearing a pro-Palestinian T-shirt was not allowed entry to the beach by the numerous police there. What politicizing Paris Plage taught us about Tel Aviv:

Perhaps nobody has told [Paris Mayor] Hidalgo that the real Tel Aviv beach is less than 50 miles directly along the coast from the killing zone of the Gaza Strip: a place where Israel’s army, navy and airforce all get to test its billion-dollar arsenal of high-tech weapons in one of the most scandalously asymmetric conflicts in human history. Presumably she was either ignorant or deliberately oblivious to the brutal colonial history underpinning the very creation of Tel Aviv.

In this sense, the Tel Aviv Plage concept was as outrageously provocative as it was ill-conceived, but – if nothing else – it at least provided Parisians with an idea of what Palestinians and their supporters are really up against.

Corbyn initially denied reports that he had links with a controversial Lebanese activist Abou Jahjah, who is reported to have told a Flemish magazine in 2004 that he considered “every dead American, British and Dutch soldier a victory”.

But later the front-runner in the Labour leadership contest was forced to admit he had met Jahjah, although he insisted he had no recollection of it.

He conceded the pair had shared a platform at Westminster in 2009, shortly before Jahjah was banned from re-entering Britain by then home secretary Jacqui Smith.

Youve just got to laugh at the hypocrisy of the press, as they pursue the Blairite agenda, by character assassination of Corbyn.

No one ever questions David Cameron on how many times he meets with king Salman of Saudi Arabia, a country which is purportedly beheaded some 90 odd people this year, so far.

No in depth character assassination of David Cameron by the Fourth Estate, over these barbaric beheadings, yet Corbyn once stood on a platform with a guy, with a less than reputable character, I think we all know where this is going.

Thankfully we have the Fifth Estate, social media, which enables the masses to see this shit for what it’s really is.

On MY River Too… If it aint F%+&$#?>%$£ WMD Subs.. But –

A Good wee Victory of Sorts for Glasgow Palestine Action As activists known as the Thales Ten,* received their verdict in Glasgow Sheriff Court last week. Five were convicted, and five acquitted, of the crime of breach of the peace.

” Glasgow Palestine Action: “We have established that the UK Government are in cooperation with Thales and Elbit who are the largest arms manufacturer in Israel and are producing the next generation of Watchkeeper drones and we also established that components for that project are produced in Glasgow – is that correct?”

Mr Lindsay (Thales) “For Watchkeeper, yes.”
Glasgow Palestine Action: “So when you said we were labouring under the misapprehension that components for drones were made at the Glasgow site was that incorrect?”
Mr Lindsay (Thales): “I said you were labouring under the misapprehension that munitions were made at the plant.”
Glasgow Palestine Action: “But you do manufacturer components for drones at the plant in Glasgow?”
    Mr Lindsay (Thales): “We do.”…

““Today was a major victory for Palestine activism in Scotland. We hauled Thales into court. We made them admit that they manufacture components of drones on the Clyde, and we confronted them with the devastating consequences of their business, in Gaza, and all over the world. There has never been a better time for us to push for an arms embargo on Israel, and boycott, divestment and sanctions against all companies which seek to profit from the devastation meted out on the people of Palestine.”

After the last Gaza war, Scottish Minister for External Affairs, Humza Yousaf, called on an arms embargo on Israel:

“The Scottish Government has demonstrated that we cannot stand idly by while innocent civilians are being killed. I am today, on behalf of the Scottish Government, calling for an immediate suspension of arms sales to Israel.”

The Watchkeeper wouldn’t be classed as arms because they don’t carry armaments, just cameras and we have no intentions of selling any of them to Israel anyway.
