The Labour Party is being remarkably coy about releasing the actual result of its Scottish accounting unit leadership election, giving only a percentage. The entirely complacent unionist media is complicit in what amounts to a deception. The stunning truth is that in a one person, one vote election among the entire membership of the Labour Party in Scotland plus trades union supporters, Dugdale won with 5,217 votes (out of a claimed electorate of 21,000, many of whom do not exist or could not be arsed to choose between two right wing numpties).
UPDATE: A second Labour figure just rang me to assure me my information – which was from a good source – is wrong. She would not give the actual figure and only said it was “higher”. I offered to take down the post and publish an accurate figure if she would give it, but this was declined.
Never mind all that. We’re doomed (again).

“Since 2004, companies have spent nearly $7 trillion purchasing their own stock — often at inflated prices, according to data from Mustafa Erdem Sakinc of the Academic-Industry Research Network. That amounts to about 54 percent of all profits from Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index companies between 2003 and 2012, according to William Lazonick, a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.”
You can see the game that’s being played here. Mom and Pop investors are getting fleeced again. They’ve been lending trillions of dollars to corporate CEOs (via bond purchases) who’ve taken the money, split it up among themselves and their wealthy shareholder buddies, (through buybacks and dividends neither of which add a thing to a company’s productive capacity) and made out like bandits. This, in essence, is how stock buybacks work. Ordinary working people stick their life savings into bonds (because they were told “Stocks are risky, but bonds are safe”.) that offer a slightly better return than ultra-safe, low-yield government debt (US Treasuries) and, in doing so, provide lavish rewards for scheming executives who use it to shower themselves and their cutthroat shareholders with windfall profits that will never be repaid. When analysts talk about “liquidity issues” in the bond market, what they really mean is that they’ve already divvied up the money between themselves and you’ll be lucky if you ever see a dime of it back. Sound familiar?
Of course, it does. The same thing happened before the Crash of ’08. Now we are reaching the end of the credit cycle which could produce the same result.
In other news, Merkel, Abe and Cameron aren’t going to China’s massive celebration of the end of WW2 next month. Which will include super new ICBMs and lots of marching in Tiananmen Square. But Schroeder, Murayama and Mr. Tony, ex-premiers all, will be there. IOW, our governments are deeply principled and capable of censorious gestures, whose effect can be wholly and deniably nullified by our ex-governments.
Oh, Putin will be there, too. Looking after Western interests like he does.

Britain’s Labour Party Purge is Underway. Preventing “Supporters” from Voting for Jeremy Corbyn
August 24, 2015
Kerry-anne Mendoza explains how Labour Party leaders have banned her and many others from voting for Jeremy Corbyn.
The first wave of the UK Labour Party’s purge of registered supporters has begun, and I and many others outside of the Blairite wing of the Labour movement were disenfranchised by our own party on Thursday.
At a little after 5:00 am yesterday, an email arrived in my inbox from Labour HQ.

Mark at 8:50 am.
It is of great concern that governments which create and finance Mujahadeen, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, ISIS, ISIL and now DAESH in order to destabilise the Middle East and paint Islam as a religion of extremists and terrorists and really makes you wonder what money and reasoning goes behind these campaigns, though I think you and I can hazard a guess.
our governments are deeply principled…
Better clarify that for the literalists here.
Read:
our governments are deeply principled…[sarcastic smiley]
What Rob G said about the world economy crashing about our ears while Craig serves drinks to hippies….
Bless Kerry-Anne – that is sinister Mary; I’m troubled by that ice-pick and what’s under the surface of this black pencil control. Speaking to Kerry might sound like a good plan.
…governments which create and finance Mujahadeen, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, ISIS = ISIL = DAESH
Fixed slight conceptual error (or attempt to boost numbers for shock horror effect) for you.
‘We’ certainly financed the Mujahadeen. Not sure if the Soviets had misread the map, taken a wrong turning or had some other benevolent intention in Afghanistan, but it sure looked like an invasion at the time. AQ – prove it. Explain why the UK’s horrendously overstretched forces would be lengthily and expensively deployed against something the UK had any interest in funding.
Saudi and Bahrain probably do fund some of these people. IS looks (and AQ looked) like a good idea to rich ultra-salafists there, and there’s not much we can do about what comes out of Saudi on account of it has us by the knackers wrt oil prices. Meanwhile, Iran is
highly supportive of Assad and Hizb’ullah – is that the West fomenting hatred of Islam?
Taliban – effectively the successors to the mujahadeen, with added religious bigotry and a touchingly even-handed attitude to invaders. Funded by opium sales. If you like, funded by western smackheads. Heavily reliant on Russian weaponry and IED’s made from recycled artillery shells from the mujaheddin days.
In fact all of the above use predominantly Russian kit. Qui bono? To float an alternative theory to yours*, wouldn’t it make more sense to think that Russia is clandestinely funding armed fundamentalist groups throughout the area in order to give the West a problem? As outlined in the Peoples’ Manual of Soviet Subversion, and practiced by the USSR throughout the Cold War? And, given our pathological hatred of all things Russian [sarcasm smiley], would we give people money which we knew would be supporting Russia’s arms industry? Surely we’d be flying the flag? Tell you one thing: Liam Fox wasn’t in charge of the deal…
*and one just as loopy, it must in fairness be said.
Mr Spencer Davis
“Immunities or special procedural rules which may attach to the official capacity of a person, whether under national or international law, shall not bar the Court from exercising its jurisdiction over such a person.”

Key words there are “the Court”. The Court is free to issue an arrest warrant but States Party are free not to act upon it pursuant to their position on immunity.
The money behind denigrating Islam is the same money funding the purge linked by Mary at 9:12 am, it is bankers money. We cannot have a Labour Party with socialist aims because that is not in the interests of the bankers. Kier Hardie is dead. The electorate is sleeping. I am tempted to quote the last verse from Shelley’s Mask of Anarchy but it tends to get overdone. So I’ll give you a couple of Ebenezer Elliott’s quatrains. He was born near Sheffield, an area with strong Labour traditions.
and for sentimental reasons having visited these monuments several times as a boy:
By my childhood Keppel’s Pillar had become known aas Keppel’s Column. Here is a verse which says something of Elliott’s grass-roots campaigns.
“It is of great concern that governments which create and finance Mujahadeen, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, ISIS, ISIL and now DAESH in order to destabilise the Middle East and paint Islam as a religion of extremists and terrorists and really makes you wonder what money and reasoning goes behind these campaigns, though I think you and I can hazard a guess.”
Come on now Gross, out with it. Don’t be coy.
I note the trumpet has blown the warning, but it cannot sound if the watchmen are already dead and the city has been smashed by proxy.
The money behind denigrating Islam is the same money funding the purge linked by Mary at 9:12 am, it is bankers money.
ALL money is bankers’ money, John.
Somewhat confusing article from Bloomberg here (I’ll swap you a Bloomberg for a New Russia Today, in a spirit of fairness):
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-02-17/putin-points-muslim-rage-at-cold-war-foes-as-jihadis-vow-attacks
In which:
Rogachev of the Foreign Ministry said it’s imperative that Russia, the U.S. and the European Union rebuild ties and work together to neutralize the Islamic State. Russia and the U.S. used to share intelligence on terrorist threats, most recently during preparations for the Sochi Olympics, but those ties have been severed over the war in Ukraine. Now, Russia isn’t always invited to the international meetings the U.S. convenes to discuss the issue, according to Rogachev.
Without such cooperation, attacks like the one on Charlie Hebdo will only increase in severity and frequency, according to Anatoly Kulikov, a former interior minister who commanded Russian troops during the first war in Chechnya in the 1990s. Kulikov now heads the Club of Russian Commanders, an advisory body uniting more than 1,000 retired senior military officers.
“That was a very serious signal that we should stop quarreling and join efforts,” Kulikov said in an interview.
So I don’t think you’re quite in touch with the Party line, there, John.

I’m impressed with your perception. Amos was a prophet. He prophesied an earthquake – doom and gloom. Habbakkuk was a prophet. He prophesied more doom and gloom a bit like an early version of Eliot’s The Wasteland but long before the atom bomb so not quite as devastating – and he rejoiced.
There is something childlike, innocent almost, in his variety of personas which he can never quite get away with but I am pleased he has owned up when he was caught out licking the lid of the jampot – and breaking the rules of Blyton.
The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was an extremely vicious, and brutal war, certainly in a different league to anything the West has done in that country, and especially the rather pathetic British efforts which were laughed at by the Taliban. It was right that America funded and armed the Mujahadeen, and it bears remembering what good friends Pakistan and the US were at that time, before Pakistani duplicity set in. Of course Mr Goss must lament the day that the Soviet Union overstretched itself and fell apart.
RobG.
Sorry I missed your Post to me last night. I normally go to bed about 10.00pm. Last night I went to bed earlier. I was knackered after a trip into town to attend to the things that demand attention. Of course they are from one end of town to the other.
My father had most of his stomach removed when he was the age I am now 70. He survived because my sister who was a nurse kicked up hell with the nursing staff who she said were not bothering with an old man who had 9 tenths of his stomach removed because of cancer. He lived to 91 and a half.
I am not receiving any medication, yet!. The infected kidney has been removed. That’s the treatment.
Having read through your Links there is no mention of benefits for kidney cancer by curcumin.
I did ask where did I get this from? The reply, ” I think it is just the hand you have been dealt, Robert”.
This next CT Scan is to determine whether it has gone “metastatic”. The white spots on my lungs?. If is has moved, then treatment will start at a Glasgow hospital.
Not one drop of blood was needed for the operation. And yet I heard them say in day surgery, “we have two units already but I have ordered two more”.
I am a big fan of “natural” treatment. I eat well, I always have. I have given booze a nudge from time to time, that was in my younger days, not now. We are stupid when we are young.
I hope your father recovers well. If you have not spoken to him for 20 years do it now. “It will help him at this difficult time. I was overseas for years when my father was in hospital and was unable to speak to him. I insisted the nurse told him I had phoned from Papua New Guinea.
All the very best to you RobG and your father. Keep up the good Posts, they are worth reading.
There is good people on here. However, every place has one, or two, not so good.
The 13th. of October is when I get the results.
Anatoly Kulikov may have his head screwed on the right way viz without such
cooperationreconnaissance, false flags will only increase in severity.Dr. Anatoly Kulikov, General of the Russian Armey, Former Interior Minister of Russia. Interview at the GNRD Conference on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights. (Russian)

Ba’al, actually Russia Today confuses me, as does Putin, over ISIS (and its spores). They speak the same language as the west. Yet like the west they have their Islam favourite regimes (I think it’s mostly Egypt, Syria and Iran) presumably to trade.
The US, a supposed believer in free-trade, imposes restrictions (sanctions) to prevent these and other countries trading. So which is the capitalist country? Is it the US? Or Russia? I have nothing on this subject to trade from RT for your Bloomberg piece. But what about a piece from Russia Insider?
http://russia-insider.com/en/who-genuine-about-fighting-terrorism-syria-and-who-are-terrorists/ri9338?
A taster:
“But Russia’s initiative [putting together a group of states to fight ISIS] is no gambit, as it begins with one unyielding condition – that President Assad is going nowhere until stability is restored, when new free elections can decide if he will remain Syrians’ choice of president.
The Russian joint counter-terrorism plan has another feature which distinguishes it from all the plans past and current of the self-declared ‘international community’ to ‘fight terror’ or to ‘degrade and destroy Da’esh’ – it is what it says, and doesn’t conceal some hidden agenda.
And as far as Russia and Syria are concerned, this means fighting ALL the armed groups who are terrorising the inhabitants of villages and cities in Syria, regardless of their affiliation or alleged justification for taking up arms against the Syrian Arab Army.”
Robert, thanks for sharing your personal ordeal. Let’s hope, and pray for those that do, that your results are clear and that like your father you have another twenty-plus years to look forward to. 🙂
“really makes you wonder what money and reasoning goes behind these campaigns”
Corbyn’s proposal for dealing with “ISIS”, that we identify the sources of its funding and military supplies then cut them off, is such an obvious strategy that you have to wonder why no-one seems to have thought of it before.
Note to Craig when he emerges from the hole…..
I’m not good at organising things but I think you could. A March against continuing British Military involvement in Syria; hopefully before Cameron slips in new vote in Parliament.
Reasons why people might march;
Don’t really want our money spent on destroying human life.
Think bombing caused the problem, think it won’t solve it.
Parliament already voted not to use British servicemen to kill and main people in Syria.
When Cameron says “we get it” he needs to be reminded what the British public wants. Yes he could keep going back to Parliament and keep asking for permission and even use false intelligence and lies like his predecessor who created the mess but if he needs to hear the voices of the people perhaps a March is the best reminder he can have.
SNP plans to control universities could result in them losing charitable status and becoming public sector. In much the same way as their taking control of the police resulted in them no longer being local authority and exempt from VAT, universities controlled by Holyrood would not have tax exemption and would lose donations from private benefactors.

I think you know the answer to that MJ – so does Corbyn 😉
Mary.
To reject you proves beyond any shadow of doubt that we do not live in a Democracy.
Keep your red flag flying New Labour!!!.

“The electorate are sleeping”
I have been saying the same for donkey’s years. Well done!.
Now how do we waken them up?
They don’t listen to me.
What alternative can you vote for in England?
What happened to New Labour in Scotland has fear fear and more fear in the guts of every New Labour M.P. in England. Jeremy Corbyn is pouring petrol on their fear, big time. Proof is them rejecting Mary and everyone else they fear will vote for Corbyn.
Give them a dose of their own medicine, and make a big one!
Now is your time to right the wrongs of centuries past. Don’t wobble. (sorry about that expression).
GO FOR IT. The whole world will benefit.
What’s the oil price doing, Fred?
John Goss, thanks for your kind words. You have posted some great poems to-day. Our Rabbie would approve.
Well done!.
Robert
I don’t think Mary at 9:12 am was talking about being rejected herself. She was quoting from here:

about someone called Kerry-anne Mendoza.
