UPDATE
36,000 people voted for swizzler Tessa Jowell to be Labour candidate for London’s mayor. If you consider the facts below, that says something very scarey about a substantial portion of Labour Party membership, even if she didn’t win.
The fact that it is still a serious possibility that a substantial number of Labour members will vote for Tessa Jowell to be the party’s candidate for London Mayor – which Labour electorate includes the new membership – should be a serious jolt to anybody who believes the Labour Party is transformed. The Labour Party is still full of crooks, and Tessa Jowell is one of the biggest crooks.
As I wrote in 2009:
Tessa Jowell actively participated in the laundering of the corrupt payments from Silvio Berlusconi, given to her husband David Mills in return for false testimony in court to cover up some of Berlusconi’s endless crooked dealings. Tessa Jowell participated as a full partner in the three time remortgaging of her home, paying off the mortgage with cash and then remortgaging. She has stated that there was “Nothing unusual” in this.
Most people would think it was very unusual to be able to pay off a large mortgage with cash at all. To do it twice and remortgage again each time would strike most of us as very weird indeed.
Tessa Jowell claimed she did not read the mortgage documents before signing them or know where the money was coming from. David Mills was eventually acquitted on a technicality by the Italian legal system, but it is not in dispute that the money came from Berlusconi or that he lied in court. Jowell claimed she did not read the documents and had no idea where the money came from or what her husband was doing. She then “left” him and went through a sham “separation” which the whole London establishment knew was a fake, (but the media obligingly did not publish), until the heat died down and the couple could get together again.
Revelations about Labour crookedness constantly make you gasp, such as the meetings Cherie Blair set up with Hillary Clinton on behalf of the Qatari royal family. Blair’s free holidays on Berlusconi are well remembered. Labour can claim that the Corbyn election is a defeat for Blairism and a new leaf. But if today Jowell gets more than a derisory vote, we will all know Labour are still a bunch of crooks at heart.

“As for UK domestic and constitutional law Royal Prerogative trumps all else.”
It’s not quite that simple: the Commons has control over money, so unless the executive is ready to pay for its adventures (commercial sponsorship?) it relies upon Parliamentary approval of its expenditures.
In fact the Commons is absolutely sovereign when it chooses.
What this means-and you can check it out by looking at France and the USA- is that the only real difference between the monarchy and an elected executive is that the latter has much more power to act unilaterally and, in the current parody of democracy, no more legitimacy.
If Labour refuses to back Cameron’s dangerous and criminal project there is every reason to believe that the SNP will do the same. Any Labour MP breaking ranks on the issue will then be left to the mercy of his CLP and its many new members. Provided, that is that a semblance of democracy is restored to the party.
“ No State or group of States has the right to intervene, directly or indirectly, for any reason whatever, in the internal or external affairs of any other State. Consequently, armed intervention and all against its political, economic and cultural elements, are in violation of international law. ”
Pity your mate Putin hasn’t read that.
” The top contender for Dumbest Troll is Kempe, as it’s always been ! ”
Well alright then cleverclogs where in the UN Charter does it say that the principle of self defence applies only to nation states?
Or are puerile insults the best you can do?
Mary thanks for the Catalonian link.
This reminds of the Scottish independence, when Phil Hammond said Scotland would be open to attack from outerspace or when Lord Robertson said Scottish independence would cause the Balkanization of the western world.
Catalans are asking Spain’s Guardia Civil to apologise for a “joke” tweet, threatening combat vehicles on the streets if they vote for independence.
Nerves are high in Catalonia right now. The region in north east Spain, which has its own language, has plans for a referendum on independence, which its President Artur Mas says will be held in November next year. The central government in Madrid is having none of it – calling the vote unconstitutional, and insisting it will never happen. Social media in Catalonia is alive with debate on the subject, with the hashtag #sisi – calling for people to vote “yes” – trending. Opinion polls suggest a vote – if it’s ever held – would be close.
Something of a social media hand grenade was first thrown into the mix last Friday, when a tweet went out from an account which seems to be run by members of Spain’s Guardia Civil police force. It implied that they would be sent in if Catalonia voted for independence, and asked Catalans if they would prefer to have armed men marching down the main street in Barcelona, or armoured combat vehicles instead.

“It’s not quite that simple: the Commons has control over money, so unless the executive is ready to pay for its adventures (commercial sponsorship?) it relies upon Parliamentary approval of its expenditures. ”
Which has no relevance to the legality of Cameron’s strike on Syria.

Conservatives have a majority.
Why are senior Tory ministers avoiding unscripted media interviews?
Hardly any of my colleagues in radio have been able to talk on air with senior ministers since the election. This looks like a calculated strategy.

Noted that these are indeed matters that are well worth recalling and featuring as outlined above.
Republicofscotland@7:13 “I think Mr Khan could be LFI” I don’t think so. He is certainly a member of Labour Friends of Palestine and the middle east.
@RepublicofScotland: “In the House of Commons in January 2009, Khan criticised the Pope for the rehabilitation of Bishop Richard Williamson following his remarks about the Holocaust, a move he described as “highly unsavoury” and of “great concern”.”
Oh no, the Pope was bashing the bishop in church! Isn’t that a cardinal sin;)
@Fred, so you must now accept that as the UK acted in Syria, and not Iraq, this was illegal in International Law.
As regards to UK domestic law, even trying to use that Deep State power of Royal Prerogative to bypass democratic representation, doesn’t work for this case for a number of reasons;
The Government itself is not claiming to have acted under the Royal Prerogative; especially as Cameron, hoping to emulate Blair’s Iraq vote, previously failed on getting Parliamentary authorization for military action in Syria, and as a result he stated this;
“It is very clear tonight that while the House has not passed a motion it is clear to me that the British Parliament, reflecting the views of the British people, does not want to see British military action.”I get that, and the Government will act accordingly.”
This power as used domestically, apart for honours, is for the granting of prerogative of mercy, never for the authorizing of the execution of citizens !
The Death Penalty is not part of British Law.
Oh sorry, misread Pope Ratzi the Nazi wasn’t bashing the bishop…in fact he was about to award him the Iron Cross:)

Whilst still on the religious theme. Priest says it’s “incredible” that someone broke into his church and urinated in the holy water:

Now it would be even more incredible if they could have turned the holy water into wine, eh? LOL:)))
Tony, I was on Syrian Girl’s channal/fb page the last time they made this push. It was nice sharing the good news that we weren’t going in.
Unbelievable pathological defiance of democracy. And morality.

To begin with, Mods were deleting just about all posts by ‘truthers’. They’re still deleting a large number of posts, yet are allowing a lot of them to remain.
I can’t recall the last time I saw such a thing in the mainstream media.

Thanks, Fred, for your continued pursuit of hair-splitting.
I note that the British government hasn’t pursued your line of argument. I wonder why. Perhaps it is that they need an argument that will be understood by the public.
I doubt your argument though. You can’t legally attack another country, which is defined territorially, without authorisation from the UN. The self-defence argument has been satisfactorily rubbished. There was no ‘imminent threat’ demonstrated. The only threat mentioned had already passed. And any other has not been defined. We’re back to Craig’s line. You can’t redefine “imminent threat”, as anything vague you might like to mention.
Not that I think that the powers are bothered with such trivia as law. I remember well my father, an expert in such matters, telling me that he doubted that Britain had the right to do what it did in the Falklands.
The obvious rational aim here is peace in Syria, and everyone can get back to their lives, and stop refugeeing in Europe. However Cameron doesn’t want that. He wants to break ISIS, but also Asad. all of which means eternal war, and more refugees. That is apparently what you want.
Just had a decko at Ms Jowell’s TWFY.

Kempe; “Well alright then cleverclogs where in the UN Charter does it say that the principle of self defence applies only to nation states?”
Dear God ! Are you for real ?!!
Actually this is very sad, & even a bit scary, that people can be so disconnected from commonsense; and from very basic comprehension abilities; anyhow, here’s a clue, take a good hard look at the title; Charter of the United Nations
No, scrap that as that will probably go over your head; consider the very first sentence;
“Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security.”
Try to work in the context of the whole sentence out if the word “individual” applies to an individual person or to an individual Country.
