For his first nine years as Prime Minister, Tony Blair appointed NO women to any of the “Great offices of state” over which Corbyn is under such concerted media fire. And he had many less women in his shadow cabinet and cabinet. Yet there was virtually no media comment at all, and none of this line of right wing “feminists” lambasting him.
Explain.
With that shameful gender bias in the Corbyn cabinet, I am surprised that the fragrant Cara Theresa, who never loses an opportunity to stress her working class roots (immediately before phoning her hairdresser) has not taken a keen interest in the matter. Too bad the thwarted ladies of Labour aren’t Nigerian:
http://tribuneonlineng.com/cherie-blair-foundation-calls-female-entrepreneurship-mentors
The racket appears to be accepting international aid money and philanthropic donations in order to ensure that the developing world is never short of women uttering management bollocks and selling each other Tupperware ™. Or mobile phones…
MJ : “For some reason I’ve always thought that more people came to read the comments!”
I always thought people came here because they needed “Breaking News” reports, being apparently unable to get their news anywhere else. At least, some posters here clearly think that – they’ve been helpfully providing such a service for years.
“MPs should be recalled to their constituencies and given the chance to explain to local members and affiliates why they won’t work with Corbyn, why they didn’t vote against Tory austerity and why they prefer war to peace in Syria. Libya and Iraq”
Yes, although when sitting MPs are deselected in this way they can only be prohibited from standing at the next election, they can’t be summarily removed. This is a pretty toothless provision because local parties can choose who they like to stand at the next election anyway.
MJ
Yes – and there is an answer. Long comment threads do not much correlate to number of page views (except in exceptional cases like the Al-Hillis).
Ishmael, this blog would not exist without a number of technical helpers and mods, to whom I and readers should be very grateful. But it is not an organisation and no, there is no committee. It is just my personal blog. It pretends to be nothing else. It is read by people who find my thoughts provoke their own thinking. That is its purpose.
If I have a thought I want to put out there – like the above on Blair – if I make it a new post it will be read by thousands of people. If I put it in a comment thread like this, it will be read probably by a few hundred. So it depends how important I think it is.
If your primary reason for coming here is to expound your own views, then you would be better advised to get your own blog. I am sorry if you find that insulting. It seems to me like pretty straightforward advice.
O/T Craig, but rather interesting, will he be missed……not by many I think.
Canberra- Malcolm Turnbull will be sworn in on Tuesday as Australia’s 29th Prime Minister and the fifth in five years.
The former Communications Minister defeated Tony Abbott late on Monday in a Liberal party room ballot, 54 to 44 with one informal vote.
The Foreign Minister and senior WA Liberal Julie Bishop has retained her role as deputy.
The leadership trigger was pulled by both Turnbull and Bishop when they separately confronted Abbott in his office.
Abbott has lost the prime ministership after just two years in the job, days before a crucial by-election in Canning and after he pleaded with his party to not be like the “revolving door” of the Labour Party.
RoS Pleasure. They were the shadow cabinet posts. Do more junior opposition posts exist? I don’t know.
This is the Govt list.

RoS Abbott and Turnbull earlier above.
I enjoy Craig’s posts and the comments section equally.
I suppose I am a lurker!
The comments section is a little bit of a club with, like most internet “homes”, some useful stuff said, some infighting and some trolling.
I think you may be wrong about how many read the comments, Craig. If others are like me, they lurk because they know that contributing to the comments section and taking part in the to-and-fro debate would be a very large time stealer. This type of place is addictive in people’s online lives! And other lurkers may just be slightly intimidated by the idea of being heard among longstanding relationships that have developed – friendly or inimical – between the longstanding commenters.
But I do find the comment section highly enjoyable.
Two LFoI in Corbyn’s shadow cabinet, Dugher (sport etc) and Berger (mental health, perhaps she can fill us in on the state of mental health in Gaza).
Craig,
Is there an option for up-and-down-voted, threaded discussions in the comments, as in reddit?
As they stand, it is occasionally fun to dip into them, but it is a time-stealer to read them, and even more so to write them.
Things get vitriolic because trolling comments remain in plain sight, rather than being voted down by your readers, and disappearing off the bottom of the page.
Tariq Ali. A run through on previous Labour leaders cf Corbyn. Not much more than that.

Jeremy Corbyn: the Most Leftwing Leader Labor Has Ever Had
http://www.counterpunch.org/2015/09/14/jeremy-corbyn-the-most-leftwing-leader-labor-has-ever-had/
You mean our assigned keyboardi brigade are pissing in the wind and costing heir employers money by spmming here? Obviously the proof of posting as in screen grabs are not an accurate measure of the efficacy of the said keyboardi brigade deployment!
Noticed the other day a lady here was complaining that the Labour Party should get to speed with the times and have elected a transgender leader.
Well, maybe not leader, but perhaps Bin Corbyn could bring Miranda back into the cabinet and Minister of War Crimes.
That should do it.
“RoS Abbott and Turnbull earlier above”

Ah yes Mary, sorry about that, I must have missed your comment thanks.
Someone has probably posted a comment on this, if so my apologies.
Jeremy Corbyn swept to victory backed by cash raised from the sale of T-shirts made by factory workers earning just 49p an hour.
The Socialist firebrand’s fighting fund got a £100,000 boost from the ‘Team Corbyn’ garments, which sold out on his official website.
Moments after taking over the Labour leadership, Corbyn spoke of his determination to combat poverty and inequality in an impassioned victory speech.
But an investigation by The Mail on Sunday reveals that scores of workers in Nicaragua and Haiti toiled to produce the T-shirts, which cost supporters £10, plus £3.50 postage.
They’re having a dig at everything.
A woman’s place is in the cabinet.
I haven’t had much time to keep up with the news today, but I believe Corbyn’s cabinet consists of 16 women and 15 men. I don’t believe there’s ever been a cabinet with more women than men?

Welcome Sixer, pull up a chair, and join the beano, your thoughts are most welcome.
Having reported the likelihood of Deutsche Bank making 23,000 employees redundant, the Sky News presenter, Kay Burley, continued by reporting the change of Australian PM, except she called Turnbull the new prime minister of Israel! She quickly apologized for the mistake and went on to describe Turnbull’s Goldman Sachs connections.
What was she thinking?

Cheers.
Here’s a suggestion for Mr.Corbyn as to how he might drastically reduce the number of right-wing/Zionist/neocon commentators taking unceasing rounds of pot shots at him in print and over Her Britannic Majesty’s Royal airwaves. He should just announce that he is employing the ex-US Marine Ken O’Keefe as his senior foreign policy adviser.
I should think that a fair percentage of the aforementioned neocon rabble rousers sniping and mortaring from the sidelines will have keeled over and dropped dead from apoplexy or heart attack by the end of the day.

” They’re having a dig at everything.”
Corbyn Only a couple of days into his Leadership.. one would have Hoped he be given a chance, But No Chance. I suspect he shall have to move Fast.
And as Finian Cunningham says ” the Knives are out ” –
” More ominously, sections within the British establishment moved, within hours of his election, to paint Corbyn as a national security risk. The Conservative Defence Minister Michael Fallon – who has for the past year been ardently beating anti-Russian drums over Ukraine – was over the weekend busy telling various news outlets that Labour under Jeremy Corbyn would “weaken Britain’s defences”.

Relax, RoS. The Mail always does the t-shirt sweatshop story when it’s short of op-eds. See last year:

Had a go at Russell Brand too. You’d think it would be encouraging entrepreneurial tendencies on the Left…
TonyB thanks for Abbot story…you too Mary…My eyesights terrible..

Don’t topics get dumped quickly by the media?
The most recent piece that I can see. Any police involvement? Prosecutions for fraud? No. Because that would expose the gullibility of the likes of Cameron and Brown I assume going back to 2008.
MINISTERS are seeking to recoup a £3m grant paid to Kids Company shortly before the charity collapsed.
An application to retrieve the funds has been submitted to receivers acting for the creditors of the charity which closed down last month.
Kids Company, founded by Camila Batmanghelidjh, the flamboyant campaigner, had received about £30m from the taxpayer between 2008 and its closure. It included the £3m payment that was made despite the objections of civil servants and £4.2m in April.
MPs on the public administration committee are to investigate whether the charity “benefited from unfair advantages in the level of government support it attracted”.
Since its closure, Kids Company has been the subject of allegations about financial mismanagement……
Claims that numbers helped were exaggerated….. paywall

Republicofscotland I hope you are happy now!!!!
DM will be running a farticle about “Bin Corbyn”# and his cruelty to animals, torturing these animals by induced mixed identity (a BMW badge on a donkey) that forces these animals to develop identity crisis along with body dysmophia believing these are toasters toasters/segways/Ducks!
It is all thanks to you, and your remarks on this blog, I hope you are so proud of yourself!!!!!

Where’s the modern-day Spitting Image? They’d have a field day with this lot.

They (the team) will be facing trumped charges of identity theft for the purposes of terrorism and droned probably!
Fedup, sadly that seems to be the case.
Another brief clip from Spitting Image, ‘Prime Minister’s Questions’. I find it quite horrifying just how many of the politicians portrayed in this clip have since been under allegations of child sex abuse and murder, or have been prosecuted for fraud.
